See if you can try some other router. Also, try to "reconfigure" the device from the device screen. It may take a few attempts. If this process fails initially when you join the device to your network, the device won't report attribute changes (e.g. the current temperature).
Hi, I am looking for some advice for a new user. At the spur of the moment I bought an IKEA Vindstyrka yesterday, which apparently is a Zigbee device. Right now, I am running Home Assistant as a VM image, but I wanted to installed it on my Synology NAS, but no luck there. So I am looking for a device that can both
- Allow Vindstyrka to connect to HA
- Run a Home Assistant server 24/7.
Buy something CC2652 based. This list is a good one, both Tube and Electrolama have been proven to have excellent customer service. The current generation of EZSP sticks (see here for some) are also a good choice for ZHA.
Anything CC2530 or CC2531 based should be avoided - they're old, slow, and only suitable for a dozen or so devices. The Sonoff ZBbridge isn't advised since it uses WiFi (built in interference causing stability/reliability issues), and the HUSBZB-1 uses an older chipset so should be avoided.
Finally, the ConBee range are fine with deCONZ, but experience with ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT appears to be mixed.
Tube sells network connected Zigbee coordinators
Then where you run HA doesn't matter
So a CC2652/CC1352 USB device would solve 1 above (connecting the device to HA), but it does not allow running HA server, or does it?
No, it's purely about Zigbee
There's no one device (other than the Yellow, but just don't) that is a PC and has a Zigbee radio
haha, i take it i should not ask about the yellow
Using a network connected coordinator allows you to run HA anywhere you want - VM, NAS, toaster
The Yellow is a Pi4 (and almost impossible to buy), there's better hardware for the same price
in their infinite wisdom synology dropped support for docker on my NAS, so I want to find another host
VM?
i run a vm on my windows machine right now, works well, but not anything i will have running 24/7
#hardware-archived has a long history of small form factor recommendations
i have a raspberry pi 2b which i understand is too weak
ok, so i will get a zigbee device from the list you shared
and solve the hosting of the ha server separately
many thanks!
I'm also just getting set up and would like to run this on a Pi or something, but they don't seem to be all that available at the moment so I'd like to run it on an M1 Mac Mini instead (probably running in a docker container) - I looked around various of these pages to see if these sticks are compatible with apple silicon but didn't see anything one way or the other... anyone got any war/success stories?
I have HA happily running in Docker on that machine already, I guess I'm just wondering if the USB sticks are compatible with the apple silicon hardware
The sticks don't care about the CPU in your computer
orange pi maybe?
I don't quite understand this - the "network connected" in question is the zigbee network or a bridged IP network?
the serial connection is over tcp
Thanks, reconfiguring did the trick, though it took 9 attempts.
ok I'm a little new to this but that sounds like it means that instead of taking my Mac Mini and plugging a zigbee coordinator USB stick into it, I could take a network connected coordinator, plug it into a switch, then tell my HA install to use it? It sounds like this device is taking the zigbee network events and forwarding them over TCP to some client(s), so I assume there's some latency in this (though if it's push/socket vs polling then it's probably negligible). Am I on the right track?
yes. there is no noticeable latency. as the serial connection is very low bandwidth, and is constantly connected. In a way its like using socat on a remote host to forward a serial port. in the case of my products they use an ethernet connected esp32 to run the serial over tcp.
gotcha, cool
so I guess you just need one of these per zigbee network, but you could also flash them as routers if you had a PoE switch and a place with no AC power but wanted to extend the zigbee network? I have a PoE switch in my attic and ethernet cable is much lighter and safer than running romex so this would actually be quite useful if it can indeed do that
ah and I guess that's what https://tubeszb.com/product/cc2652p2-based-zigbee-to-poe-coordinator-2023/ is
I plan to have around 100 zigbee bulbs, 50 zigbee switches, ~50 door sensors, ~100 misc other zigbee devices on this network: my Hue systems are not scaling well as I add more devices - how does this thing perform with a few hundred nodes?
One coordinator per network. Yes you can flash any of the coordinators as routers but the ethernet connection would not be used other than for power in the case of the PoE version
yea makes sense
there are people who used them without problem with 100+ devices. I used one and hover around 140-150 connected devices.
cool, thanks for the answers. So now I understand what Tinkerer meant by using one of those - the fact that my CPU arch is apple silicon is irrelevant if I also use a network connected coordinator, as all the Mac now needs to be able to do is speak is TCP ๐๐ป
I have a test set up of HA running in UTM on a M1 mac mini, and it runs the natively on the M1, and flies. (off topic)
I see pros and cons - it's nice that you can hot-swap the HA instance if the Mac dies (just boot up the docker container elsewhere and feed it the config), but it's also another thing that can break (hopefully also fairly hot-swappable) ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ seems like there are cases where the NCC is the preferred option (the PoE cases for example), but in my case it probably doesn't matter much as the USB stick should be compatible with my M1
I think the key for me is probably the performance as I want to support hundreds of devices with significantly sub-second latencies - I guess the USB sticks must have something similar to the esp32 doing the same job translating zigbee events (except just translating to USB instead of TCP), so that could be a bottleneck for those devices
one other thing that comes to mind is that I would have more freedom to locate a network connected coordinator centrally in the house - I'm probably overthinking this but a centrally located coordinator plus ethernet to a HA server might outperform a USB stick directly connected to the HA server if that server is located at the edge of the network. Maybe that makes a difference if there are hundreds of nodes in the zigbee network ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
that's too sad :/ The workaround i have found online is to connect to the lamp via bluetooth from the smartphone-app, create a few gradient-scenes, and then there is some command i beliebe with that you can enable those scenes via HA... But custom settings via HA i haven't found yet sadly x_x
good afternoon, can anyone help me, my sonoff zigbee 3.0 usb dougle plus device is not recognized in the homeassistant
how do i solve this problem?
You go through the troubleshooting steps for your Zigbee integration
Need more information. Has it worked before? How are you running home assistant? Are you using ZHA or z2m? What have you already tried to resolve the problem?
Yeah I do the same, create scenes in Hue and connect Hue in HA, to call the scenes
works great, but cant change colors on the fly
maybe in the future!
just curious, does it work flawlessly to connect to the light via bluetooth from the app while it's still connected to HA? Could you share the steps how you do it? I only read an article that said i need switch between those 2 modes every time i want to change a scene x_x
Hi all, what Zigbee smoke alarm would you recommend? I need 3 new ones which preferably can be linked to each other (in HA?). And Iโd like to use the siren function for my home alarm (also HA) too.
Thanks!
Oh I use Conbee II w/ ZHA
One that is conforming to your country/local smoke alarm regulations
Gotcha, so I would need time research something on Dutch laws first. On it!
So CE marking and some NEN norm
just make sure it doesn't depend on your HA to function.
if your power is out, your smoke alarms should still work.
Hi, I've bought a 2 gang zigbee module in order to use as a curtain module. Home assistant recognizes it as 2 light switches. Is there a way to defite it as HomeAssistant Cover?
Link to product: https://www.amazon.com/Oxyversa-2-Gang-Smart-Zigbee-Switch/dp/B0C5SR55L6/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Oxyversa&qid=1692056856&sr=8-1
I wonder if any wired ones have presence protection like nest. Good dual purpose.
have any of you experimented with passive USB extenders?
I have 30m cat5e that im using at the moment.. and my ZigBee drops out maybe once a day something like that.. I have to replug the device and reload zha
so I am going to try replacing that cable with cat 7
because it's triple shielded and has thicker conductors etc.. less loss in theory
if that turns out to be a waste I'll use it for something else like a 10gb nic
USB over twisted pair presumably has different performance / loss characteristics when compared with ethernet I don't know
Your coordinator also matters... some are known to drop out (CC253x, Sonoff P, etc)
Hello! I have bought a frient Motion Sensor Pro and I've managed to add it to ZHA (using SkyConnect dongle) and I can manually read values from it under Manage Zigbee Device, but it does not provide any entities, is there anything I can do to create entities manually and bind the to the correct value on the sensor?
Is there a way to enable Automatic Re-send in some way? I have some devices that are far away and it's kind of a 50/50 if they will hear the command, so I find myself adding 5x commands with 1 sec wait between being sent in my automations for them, and that seems to work fine. But it would be pretty nice if there was an option to have Home Assistant just continuously re-send previous orders if they're not received, but I can't seem to find an option for this. Does anyone know if there is, or if there's maybe some plugin or something that does this?
I have this message every 2 seconds :
2023-08-15 14:53:49.600 DEBUG (MainThread) [zigpy_deconz.api] Received command mac_poll[5, <DeconzAddress address_mode=AddressMode.NWK address=0x7889>, 255, -65]
I identified the device but it doesn't have a poll control cluster
weird thing is that I have about 20 similar devices but only a handful of them exhibit this behavior
it's poluting the zigbee network with useless messages. is there a way to fix this ?
sometimes resetting the device just works
It does do that, it will attempt to send the command 5 times before it chalks it up as a failure and throws an error
The solution to that is to add some router devices between the "far away" devices and your coordinator
Can I configure this? I would love to have it re-try forever.
That's not an option for me sadly.
I don't think so. If your coordinator has an external antenna you could try a bigger antenna or something though.
I already have put a pretty big one on it. Everything works perfectly if I just add 5x do-wait actions in my automations, just a shame there's no easier built-in way of doing this software wise, seems like it would be useful. In my mind it makes sense for HA to have a set of like "wished states", and for it then to continuously send out signals on repeat until the real states match that.
Anyways, thanks for the help
why not use a poe coordinator ?
Hi! I'm trying to get zigbee2mqtt to work on the Yellow. Interviewing works, but any command gets timed out (both get and set). Any ideas what might cause this?
This is 100% normal, it just means that a battery-powered device is a child of your coordinator and the coordinator is reporting every time the device polls for data
Only the Conbee reports this info if I remember correctly, other coordinators just don't bother notifying the application when it happens
Enable ZHA debug logging and post a log, it's best to know why this happens before investing in hardware to fix what may not be a USB connectivity problem
Plz help
Hello I have bought a `frient Motion
Hello, I am trying to set up a smart temperature automation.
Devices:
zigbee switch [Connected to a Infared heating panel]
multiple zigbee thermometers
Ikea styrbar
What I would like to do is being able to use the Ikea styrbar for temperature control [set: Set temperature to *C [in 1C increments, min/max 18-25C], meaning the room will heat to said temperature]
So if I press Bright-UP. set temperature goes up with 1.
if I press bright-down set temperature goes down with 1
Combined with a automation, I want to be able to heat the room to *C. with the Ikea switch acting like a override. for the set temperature in the automation.
I want to control the temperature in such a way that I can always override it trough a smart button
Would something like this work, Or would I be better off buying a thermostat panel like:
aliexpress.com/item/1005005454978291.html?
I got a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus - ZBDongle-E
And want to flash it with the latest cordinator firmware. which of thse shut i use? just the latest one listed in this repo? https://github.com/xsp1989/zigbeeFirmware/tree/master/firmware/Zigbee3.0_Dongle-NoSigned/EZSP
as a newb how do i diag my own issues, how do i read logs or what logs should i read?
some how i keep breaking ZHA even tho i did nothing protaining to it
you can enable debug logging on the ZHA integration page and then disable it after your issue occurs and then read the log it downloads
Im also relatively new though so there may be better ways - ive just upgraded to use zigbee2mqtt and portainer which has much better logging and is very clear when issues arise
its 19mb of text how do i narroe it down?
search for key phrases such as "warning" or "error"
so like id go to the first "error" mention and read what it was etc
Hey guys, question: I have a hard time adding devices through any other hub other than my main zigbee controller (connected via USB) I try adding things "through" other devices, but it often hangs on "configuring" device. Any advice?
It'll work very occasionally, but most of the time it just doesn't. I tried moving the device to my main usb connected thing, then moving it to where it'll live forever, hoping it'll eventually figure out it's moved. Will that work?
What coordinator?
Sorry, I'm not 100% on the lingo, the coordinator is the usb connected thing?
Yes
Uh Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus
P or E
If that's the last letter in the model number, it's E
ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT?
zha
And the stick is on a USB cable?
Yes. To be fair, it's in the same room as my wifi router,.
How far away?
From the device I'm trying to pair,... on the other side of the 1500 square foot house.
But I have.... 4 plug repeater things in between
From the coordinator?
Yes
How far away from the coordinator is the WiFi router
OH, 10 feet?
Ok, and did you check that your Zigbee channel is clear of WiFi?
The pinned messages are also your friend
Ok thank you.
I live near nobody so I shouldn't have any issues telling my router which channel to use (away from the zigbee channel)
Ah zigbee is on channel 11, but my 2.4 ghz wifi is on channel 1
So it... shouldn't... have interference
OH, sorry no... I thought zigbee was ALWAYS on channel 11, my mistake, I'll actually read
Crap, ok, so I probably DO have interference. Now the question is, which is easier, changing the wifi channel or the zigbee channel. I think I'll try the former as that shouldn't mess with my zigbee network, and the wifi devices should be smart enough to figure it out.
Changing WiFi is easier
I wish I had a rtl-sdr thing that would work up at 2.4 and 5 ghz so I could actually SEE the signals, instead of all the terrible apps that try to do the same thing. (I know the apps are better on android, but that's not an option for me.)
Hi I have a question? What do you guys use for a zigbee hub? Because I saw people with those usb sticks but does that work for all zigbee devices?
Found my answer: Apparently most Zigbee temperature sensors can read read up to about 125c, it's just that the devices as a whole tend to only be rated to withstand 40 to 60c max.
And unless you use a high-temp coin cell, the battery iteself will generally only be rated to withstand 70c
I bought the same one and it came with the fw already installed. Is there any reason you believe it doesn't have it already? or you are just wanting to ensure you have the latest version?
im using a cat 7 cable as a usb extender.. just to see if that makes any difference ๐
it probably wont.. but i have debugging enabled anyway
what i can say for the moment is it is at least equivalent to the cat5e.. as in.. its detected and working
i can use that for something else later anyway like my access point or workstation with 10gbe etc
but if this fixes the problem.. ๐ค
then i will just keep using it
and claim some sort of passive usb extension prize
nope when i looked at the debug log its due to a command timeout to the light in the garage.. its right on the edge
if you try to access it a few more times the whole device drops out
but other devices will continue to work prior to that happening
but 8 times out of 10 it works fine
fixed it with a zigbee ethernet hub in my garage.. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Just want to ensure i have the latest version.
I wouldn't muck around with it if it's already working? Mine came shipped with it and it's very stable. Flashing comes with it all sorts of issues and if not done correctly you can brick the device
It is the seccond dongle i got. so i already have a working one but it is a older version. I am planning to use one of the 2 as a router instead
can de E version be flashed as the router? cause i can only find cordinator firmware for it
I've got an E dongle as a router so there is definitely router FW out there somewhere. I'll have a dig around and see what I can find you
thnx
@frank hare I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
I have some aqara temp/humidity pucks, and they seemed to work well at first, but now they will just drop off the mesh and become unavailable after only a few days. I don't think it's all bad batteries?? seems unlikely. Anyone else have some issue like this?
I have created 2 non-overlapping zha groups but when I add the group as a switch things go bonkers. A subset of lights in the other group go on/off, and if I toggle the other group similar stuff happens. I have conbee II, 4 ikea outlets in one group and 3 ikea floalt panels in the other. Any ideas?
Selling a few of our bed sensors B2C via link above! Working on GitHub repo to list .ota images + Z2M / ZHA converters! If y'all know anyone who may be interested in monitoring elderly, babies or athletic performance, please think of me! Thank you again to all who helped here ๐
Hi, i have a dumb question, but is there a way to force connect a device to a certain router ? because one of my devices is connected to another which is 10 meters away from him and a rooter device is just nexto it like 10cm away, and the router can still have like 31 device on his node
that what i was thinking, but on the router page i can't :/
i don't have the button connect device from this router button
ho wait i'm just dumb
i didn't see the three little dot and on clicking on it i saw the button xD
my bad sorry guys x)
hum i think i got an issue, i paired the device with the router i wanted, but it still connect to the old router 10 m away from him :/
i'm still new to zigbee so i maybe forgot a step to do idk
I have a Samsung SmartThings Zigbee hub, it's connected via ethernet to my network.
Is it possible to use this with Home Assistant?
Hey i have a question,my sigbee doogle plus is pluged to my raspberry on wich is running HA,but it do not detect it
Any idea ?
Ok thanks for the explanation, but that device isn't support to poll for data every 2 seconds. In fact it has no reason to do so
and the 20 other same devices I have (same fw etc) don't do it
so maybe a firmware bug that triggers this I guess ? I'd need to find a fw upgrade but it's a tuya thing
i just bought some of these.. because i wanted a bit more brightness: https://www.ikuu.com.au/product/gu10-colour-globe-rgb-cct-2/
seems to be hard to find very bright gu10 zigbee bulbs.. and these seem to do the trick, but when I pair them to a SONOFF ZB Dongle-E.. they instantly turn on, instead of fade on like the ewelink/ikea ones ๐ค
i wonder if that might be a firmware thing? perhaps i should try their app or whatever
I got a "cariboulite" SDR that can go pretty high in frequency, but the software is buggy as heck, so I can't tell if a given signal is a wifi signal or what. I still need to find a better place for the Zigbee radio, it's at 80% channel usage on channel 25.
ever since i switched the devices in my garage to a sonoff ethernet hub, via the sonoff integration.. my zigbee has been stable.. touch wood
unfortunately I lose local access to that, unless I flash it with esphome or tasmota firmware.. and im not super motivated to do that for a door switch, a light and a temperature sensor in the garage
if it grows in complexity and i end up wanting non sonoff/ewelink branded devices, that could be rainy day project
Hey and i Also unable to flash the USB,each time it tells me its not in pairing mode event if it is

I added the device to the container, but I don't know how I could use it.
To which container?
Hey folks - I have a house with a decent sized zigbee network using HA and zigbee2mqtt. On my property, I also have a barn which is too far away to relay the zigbee signals, but does have wired ethernet available. I've been thinking about the possibility of setting up some additional zigbee stuff out there, but I'd need to have a second controller for them because of the range. What would be a good way to go about this, but be able to integrate it with my existing HA setup?
https://tubeszb.com/product/cc2652p2-based-zigbee-to-poe-coordinator-2023/ something like this
Huh - nifty. So the idea is that I'd run a second z2m service within HA, and instead of pointing at a USB device, I point at the IP?
(sorry - still a bit new to z2m and wrapping my head around it a bit)
Tink sent the link ๐
<heh> Yeah - that topic just says "use different base_topic and channel". I'm new enough that I need a little more info than that. ๐
Mostly, I don't understand how I'd add a second z2m to HA
well considering you already have it setup, adding that to the config should be easy ๐
Base topic is an MQTT setting in Z2M
Right, but I already have Z2M set up and using a zigbee device. I guess what I'm confused about is how to add a second one (once I have the device, of course)
yes, so you change the channel on the new adapter to something other than the one you're using
and what Tink said
I have two Sonoff Zigbee dongle plus. One is old and is working as a coordinator of my Zigbee mesh. The other one is brand new. I want to reflash one of them as a coordinator (with the newest version of the firmware as the existing one has quite an old one), and flash the other one as a relay. Is there a way of doing that without need to re-pair all my zigbee nodes?
You'd need a second Z2M install
Is that easy to do in a single HA instance? Or would I need an entirely separate HA instance? (I'm running hassos on a VM on my desktop machine)
Ah - ok. So it's not simple to just run a second instance of the same z2m within a single HA then.
can only one instance of an add-on
another option which is more complicated is fork the z2m addon repo, and add your fork and install the second instance from there.
but then you have to keep your fork up-to-date
HAOS limits you, unfortunately
That's a bummer. I went to HAOS because I was just running core in a docker container and wanted to make use of addons and such. I thought HAOS was the "best" option. ๐ Would there have been a better choice?
Container gives you more choices
Add-ons are just software running in Docker, for the Supervisor
hey can someone help me
maybe
trying to get my new sonoff ZBDongle-P installed to a vanilla HAOS install
im just trying to get it configured using ZHA
and i get an error
when you say vanilla do you mean fresh install? or bare metal
are you plugged into the usb3.0 port by chance?
yeah
you want to use an extension cable and not plug the dongle into that port
i have a 3 foot extension
so why the heck is it advertised as a 3.0 item?
but then i plug it into the 2.0 port
per se
yeah use the 2.0 port and the extension cable
so another question
what is HAOS in terms of installation method? its the preferred method right?
i would much rather run this on an APU2, because i have a bunch of them
HAOS is the easy way
but whats the best way to get HAOS on something NOT A PI
#installation-archived can better help there
ok
is the apu2 x86? you could prolly use the generic install
i just glossed over the install options
ok, ill check that there thanks
i did the swap, lets see if i can add dongle now
Also, you may need a powered USB hub if you have an SSD and a Zigbee stick
The Pi has limited power for the USB ports
so its gotta be decent amount of power
it won't matter
The Pi has limited power for the USB ports
i see
powered usb hub is the go to for external SSD on an rpi
Doesn't matter if you gave it a gigawatt supply, it can't use it all
anyone recommend a hub?
there's quite a few suggested in #hardware-archived
Any powered (USB 3.0) hub will do
They're very hard to fuck up badly
should i bail on the sonoff in general?
is there a better zigbee antenna?
im coming from a setup where i used the nortek and had major issues using zigbee channel 15
Sonoff.... yeah, not always the best, the P can have issues
For ZHA, the Sonoff E is fine
this has taken me a month to deal with and i havent begun my migration of 100 devices yet
im not wed to sonoff, i just got it because people said it was good
If you already have it might as well try to get it working. I've been running a Dongle-P for like, a year and a half? And it's fine, I just keep it far away from any USB 3 ports and SSDs.
yeah I wouldn't ditch the stick, i'd ditch the rpi personally
if you have the APU2's I'd use those personally, then not have to buy a stick or a hub
ditch which stick?
the P?
ive been trying for weeks to get it to work
ok then im gonna use an APU2, gotta figure out best install method next
its got two usb3 ports though!
on the apu2
i would still need the STICKS on the apu2 no?
ok ordering one now
I wonder if that would fix the issues with all my 2.4Ghz dongles on my desktop.. ๐ค
well hmmmmmmmm
maybe ill pivot to the apu2 anyway
i can get that stood up in an hour
You should be able to use the "generic x86" installation method if you want to mess around getting it running on the apu2.
ok
What are you migrating from?
I'm looking for a cheap zigbee LED light strip controller, is Gledopto good? I don't need addressable segments
If so, is it worth getting the 2ID/"mix" model? It's not clear to me whether or not HA (ZHA with Sonoff dongle) supports this RGB with white mode
And when buying a power supply, do I just have to look at the voltage of the strip and get one that matches?
Gledopto are good
As far as I remember there was a link with recommended ZigBee Dongles for a raspi. However I can not seem to find it, can anyone help me or even just give me a quick recommendation?
Thank you. What is the reason not to go with EFR32MG21 chips? They seem to be cheaper and newer from what I have seen on amazon
They're fine for ZHA, hence The current generation of EZSP sticks
Alright, then I will go with one of those for now, there isn't a whole lot I need it for rn just want to get rid of the hue and ikea hubs rn
Yeah you just look at the voltage and current draw of the strip and get one that matches, and also make sure the controller itself is rated for that amount of voltage and current. Usually they'll be rated for something like 5-24V.
hey guys, one more question
im redoing my whole setup from an haos install with a nortek and going to a new haos with a sonoff zigbee and a 800 zwave
my issue was that i was on channel 15 on the old ha and had issues with my wifi, it slowed it down potentially and had major reliability issues with zigbee devices going dead often
so aside from putting my new sonoff on channel 25, what other things should i be doing before i migrate 100 devices
is there really a lot of credence to the concept of pairing zigbee devices in a particular order? router zigbee devices starting closest to the zigbee antenna?
You should definitely start by pairing all your router devices.
I paired everything in its own place, starting from routers ,no problems with any device.
Migrate your old stick to the new setup and the migrate from the old stick to the new stick. You can then use ZHA's channel migration feature to migrate the channel automatically and hopefully most (if not all) of your existing devices.
Does anyone know if you can use the ring alarm keypad with zigbee without having ring? https://www.amazon.com/Ring-Alarm-Keypad/dp/B07ZB2DFMB/ref=sr_1_3?crid=R6FFBK5YZHBH&keywords=zigbee+alarm+keypad&qid=1692373879&sprefix=zigbee+alarm+keypad%2Caps%2C98&sr=8-3

Do you know what is wrong in my configuration ?
Hey guys. I'm having trouble with my zigbee network and wanted to flash another Sonoff model ZBDongle-P as a router. I'm using the Smart RF Flasher. I've followed every instruction that I could find, but no matter what, the flash fails immediately and has an error. I've held down the boot button for 10 seconds, as I plugged it into the computer. Everywhere I've looked, nobody has any problem like this. Has anybody ever heard of this behavior?
I'm trying to upload or paste a screenshot, but it seems that every section of this server has a different method or different rules. I first put this post in #hardware-archived and was able to just upload the screenshot, but in #zigbee-archived, I can't find a way to do it.

Here's the error I'm getting. ```

I solved this issue by removing ZHA
I now have my ZigBee dongle set up with ZHA and connected a Zigbee remote from symfonsik (ikea) to it. I want to use this remote now to control certain things however I don't understand yet how to react to the pressed buttons. I can see them in the logs but I don't see a way yet to use them in scripts. Where can I find resources to learn about that?
You'd use #automations-archived for that, not scripts
Thank you, I will try that then
Automations are how you get HA to "react" to anything
I'm trying to follow the instructions from the links, but I don't know enough about cmd line to navigate to the correct folder. If I'm understanding correctly, I'm suppose to copy the dongle hex file to the srecord bin folder, then in cmd line navigate to the srecord bin folder and run this command ```
.\srec_cat.exe "CC1352P2_CC2652P_launchpad_router_20221102.hex" -intel -o CC1352P2_CC2652P_launchpad_router_20221102.bin -binary```
Do I have the correct understanding and what do I type in the cmd line, to get from C:\ to the srecord bin folder?
I don't get it. I can type "cd windows\system32" and go to that folder, but typing neither "cd program files\srecord\bin", or "cd programfiles\srecord\bin" works.
do you have a hasos install with addons? you can try my flashing addon for the c2652 #zigbee-archived message
Yes I do, and thanks.
hey thanks to the Devs, lookong forward to this PR. Will the make for 2023.9?
https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy/pull/1238
It'll be in the beta
thank you, sir I will be looking forward to that ๐
I checked the number of packets/minute on my zigbee network with 36 devices: https://ibb.co/hDDPnvN. Seems to be around 2000/min. Sounds a lot to me, what kind of values others are seeing?
How can you check that?
About ... 15 a minute on average here, with over 90
It's zwave iirc. I think it technically has a Zigbee chip onboard but it's not enabled or something.
You can find an Xfinity XHK1-UE Zigbee keypad on eBay for half the price or less though, and that one will work.
It really depends on the types of devices. For example the tuya air quality sensor reports multiple attributes every few seconds
I need to try to filter per device. That's a lot of work, or maybe I could script it
Is that value without any filters?
Does Z2M log all the packets?
I installed the addon and I'm trying to configure it, but it doesn't work without the network address. How do I get a network address for an unflashed device? It seems like I'm missing something basic.
it's in the docs, just put anything in there
It logs when a packet results in MQTT messages being published, so ... sort of
Thanks! Looks like this won't work with ZHA.
Any thoughts why i have two ikea power plugs but both on different firmware, OTA shows both up to date. https://imgur.com/b5Pfweb
Enable debug logging in ZHA and look for packet. @uncut sorrel is using Wireshark with a sniffer, which will log every packet, including retries, ACKs, polling, and so on. The ZigBee stick on its own only will expose a fraction of this to Z2M or ZHA.
I'm not going to keep bothering you, but I did want you to see the error that I got when I tried to flash the dongle again. I'm beginning to wonder if I have a bad dongle or something. When I flashed my coordinator a couple of years back, I didn't have any of these problems. I've tried 4 or 5 different methods and nothing works. I keep running into different hurdles that I don't have enough knowledge to overcome. I tried one method that might work, but I couldn't figure out how to navigate in Windows cmd line to a specific folder. Anyway, here's the error.s6-rc: info: service banner successfully started s6-rc: info: service cc2652-flasher: starting [15:26:34] INFO: Triggering Bootloader mode on 192.33.54.10 [15:28:42] INFO: cc2652-flasher-up script exited with code 28 s6-rc: warning: unable to start service cc2652-flasher: command exited 28 s6-rc: info: service banner: stopping /run/s6/basedir/scripts/rc.init: warning: s6-rc failed to properly bring all the services up! I did, but maybe I shouldn't have selected anything else.
yeah don't select the bootloader option as that's only for network coordinators
I also selected "enable bootloader mode in ESPHome" and "flow control"
yeah don't enable any of those
ok, cool
make sure you hold the botton when plugging in the stick ahead of time too
That seems to have done it!
Many thanks man! I'd been pulling my hair out all day.
Hello, I am trying to migrate my network from conbee2 to skyconnect, I am using ZHA, but I donโt even see the skyconnect stick in hardware and migration seems ok, but no device is working
Now that I've flashed my second Dongle-P as a router, how do I join it to my zigbee network? Is it automatically in pairing mode when it's plugged in?
yes
Thanks
Tried it several times and got the same resultโฆ I donโt seem to find any information on why skyconnect would not appear under hardware
Does its serial port show up?
yes
And you were able to migrate with ZHA's migration flow?
yes
Did you read the warning about Conbee firmware versions?
If you have an old Conbee, it doesn't let you read some network settings so you won't be able to transmit data to devices until they're power cycled
PM me/upload somewhere the debug logs for ZHA as well
You don't need to migrate again if it worked the first time
Just record HA startup and try controlling a few devices, let it run for 15 minutes, and that is enough data. https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#debug-logging
one thing I don't really understand, until the ZHA setup is complete should the stick be visible under hardware?
Depends on how you're running Home Assistant. It usually is. If the ZHA migration worked at all, the stick is 100% functional.
Man that dongle has some power!
if i Bind a remote to a lamp the remote wont work anymore in hass?
because it seems like that
I have the E1743 Ikea switch, I was wondering if its possible to make this switch control/on/off/dim the nearby light?
i read about Touchlink
I think my coordinator does support this, EFR32MG21 based
Ikea devices support binding but they also have Touchlink support, which detaches them from your network and instead forms an ad-hoc network with just those two devices. Binding is done from your integration, not from the device itself.
Yes I binded it using the Bind tab in ZigBee2mqtt
Do I just check the Touchlink checkbox when binding and that's it? (Clusters section)
You want nothing to do with Touchlink, just bind on/off or level control
ahh ok
Also just to confirm my understanding
If you bind something with something else in a ZigBee network, the binded device becomes unavailable to other devices/hass?
No, it's separate. You can have both.
well then im doing something wrong then
the switch's state will not get updated anymore in hass when I bind it to my lamp device
You need to bind it through the "Manage Zigbee device" -> "binding" UI
yes thats where I did it
can you check sw_build_id on the Basic cluster? (you'll need to press a button on the remote to read the attribute)
ah, nvm. You're using Z2M and not ZHA
yes z2m
But still check the sw_build_id/firmware version
the fw version of the switch is the latest i.e 24.4.6
can i not upload images here hm
Using Z2M, can you also bind it to the coordinator?
(you can use image hosting sites like https://imgur.com/)
unless im misinterpreting this UI, it seems to be binded to the coordinator by default
ill upload one sec
Bind LevelCtrl and OnOff on the coordinator
i dont have to hit the bind button again after checking the boxes?
oh that worked
thanks
nice!
it seems like updating the fw on this was a mistake, it can only be binded to specific devices not a group
so i cant mass control a bunch of lights w/o z2m/hass involvement...rip
Yeah, that feature was removed in newer firmware versions. You should be able to bind it to multiple devices though
ooh, thanks
Does any of you know what the expected range of one of those USB sonoff gateways is supposed to be?
Or is that more of a #hardware-archived kinda question
Zigbee is a mesh system. The range of the network depends on how many Zigbee routers you have installed, where they're installed, the type of walls you have, 2.4GHz interference from other sources, etc. You can expect penetration through a few walls and maybe 20' in a normal environment but it really depends.
Hm so I probably will need an additional router to cover the second floor
I suppose this will be a simple drop in if it figures out the mesh on its own
Almost any device that doesn't use batteries is a router. Bulbs, outlets, etc.
Should be pretty easy to get that second floor covered, especially if there's somewhere approximately directly above where your stick is that you can put a bulb (not Sengled) or a smart plug.
I have a Zigbee bulb in my attic light, which is probably about the same distance, maybe a little further, and same type of physical barriers as you've got in your situation and it works fine.
Actually it's kind of right above where my HVAC is so it's got a big chunk of metal to possibly interfere with it and even so, no issues.
Hey everyone! I have a question. I have a THIRDREALITY zigbee motion sensor which I have configured via my Abode alarm integration.
The sensor works fine with the Abode alarm, but in HA itโs always in the โdetectedโ state. If I manually set the state in HA to โoffโ, the it shows as clear, and next time it detects movement, it stays in detected again.
I have removed the sensor from HA and Abode, but the same thing keeps happening. Any idea how to fix this?
My HA (latest version) is running on an Oracle VM on a windows desktop
How is that sensor connected to HA? Through Abode?
Yes, I use Abode as the zigbee hub.
I keep the security notifications and alarms in Abode, and then the integration with HA for other automations
I have one original Abode sensor, that works flawlessly in HA. And was looking for cheaper sensor that would work, so I grabbed the thirdreality sensor during prime deals. Works fine with Adobe, but stays in detected state in HA
Then that's more for #integrations-archived than here, since it's a problem with the Abode integration
OK OK, I thought it could be, Iโll post the questions there. Thanks! ๐
I looked into somehow manually set the state (maybe via an automation triggered by detecting movement, after some seconds), but I would rather fix whatever is not working if possible instead
I need help, something extremely weird is going on with my Zigbee2MQTT add-on and one particular light bulb
Z2M seems to be publishing about 10 messages per second to it to update the lamp's state (I guess it's the Adaptive Lighting causing it) which is spamming my Z2M logs. I assume that's not how it's supposed to be

anyone know what's up and why this particular light bulb?
Anyone here using a Fingerbot?
Any ideason this error with z2M when trying to OTA hue devices? Failed to check if update available for 'Bar Room Light Bulb' (localIndex.concat is not a function)
I feel like my map is a clusterfuck. Is there a way to heal the mesh without manually removing and readding devices? Iโm on zha
You could power down the coordinator for 30 minutes
Some devices will re-route after that, some won't
Well better than nothing lol
Are your devices working?
Is there a way to remap individual devices without fully removing and readding?
I have a few that are spotty
You can just re-pair them via your chosen router
I added a repeater but adding it after the fact doesnโt seem helpful
Not every device will re-route, and even then only if the new route is "better"
How do i do that? Donโt want to remove and break automations etc
Well, don't use device triggers/actions and you're never at risk of that ๐
However, simply enable pairing via the device, and re-pair it
It should just reconnect via that router
Would entity triggers fix that?
Iโll have to look at that
Hello. I was recently pointed to the existance of the sonoff zbmini-l2. That device seems to fit my needs in the wiring. But as it is meant to switch zigbee bulbs i don't want those to loose connection to the grid. I saw that the bigger devices by sonoff have a "detach relay" feature. Does somebody know if this is available in the zbmini-l2 too?
That feature isn't available on the ZBMINI-L2
Not a good device if you're wanting to switch smart bulbs.
Hmm that's what i feared. Do you know if there's another way to use the existing switch as an actor?
Not any I'm aware of.
I believe some of the Aqara no neutral switches support decoupled mode, but that would be replacing the whole switch.
Generally no smart bulbs with dumb switches
Sengled aren't routers, so you can "safely" cut the power, but you do that and you can't control them until they get power
So question is: is it cheaper to get new bulbs or new switches. Though i fear there are no smart zigbeee switches for gira
You can get modules that fit between the switch and the bulb
Choices depend on where in the world you are

@finite star When using Discord's Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Use Shift + click on the Reply option, or click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
No need to tag me to tell me that... you need to just tell the channel ๐
There are Gira compatible Zigbee switches
ok
do you have an example?
No
@finite star โ๏ธ
ok
The Friends of Hue ones are still not supported in ZHA, right?
Why do people keep asking for recommendations for specific systems then complain it's more expensive than generics?
Then just get a zigbee relayxand put it behind a switch
I can't find one that i can use. Maybe I even just don't have the knowledge to find the right part and finding an eletrician who knows about smart home ist not that easy
And the range of options is hard to oversee. actually that's why me( and i guess others) ask for help
ok so that wouldn't help anyways
Finding an electrician that knows this is like finding a ๐ฆ
I'm onehundred percent sure to know more about the softwareside of smart home than my electrician. But even getting ANY electrian is a miracle nowerdays and i'm lucky mine is willing to install the stuff i give in his hands
That's why I learned to do it myself
It's just basically forbidden i germany. If you don't have a master degree in electronics and change your wiring you simply loose insurance coverage
No way to do it myself
That's not really true
I just got the sonoff p dongle and installed z2m as HA addon, running on Raspi 4. It doesn't recognize any of my devices (tried with 3 different ones) during pairing mode. Even when I'm holding them right next to the antenna.
I've ordered an USB extension cable, but can the interference really be that big?
(the 3 devices are supported by z2m)
Yes, it can be.
damn, thanks for that video. guess I'll wait for the extension cable ๐
Anybody use the IKEA Symfonisk Gen 2 sound remote? Interested in getting it for use with ZHA as it has 7 buttons, but wasn't sure how well it worked (think I saw something about a couple of the buttons not being supported/picked up?)
Haven't had any problems with ZHA and that remote yet.
Do all the buttons work for you and maybe I was just looking at an older issue someone mentioned?
I was able to create 13 different triggers with it. Haven't realized anything not working.
Perfect, thanks!
I'm assuming single press on all + double press on all (except one)?
- single press play button
- single press and hold + and - buttons
- single press left and right (arrows) buttons
- single press, double press and hold one-dot and two-dot buttons
Great info, thanks!
But I haven't tried to look at the ZHA events in the developer tools yet. Maybe there is more usable to find.
All of that is probably even more than I would need but I'll have to do some digging once I get my hands on one!

Help me if you know what the error is
I just changed from Dongle-P to Dongle-E
Hello! I have been a long time nabu casa sub. I love the service! I am having a problem with my Zigbee2MQTT add-on. The addon start to act up. Lights not responding. I had the bright idea to change the zigbee channel within the Zigbee2MQTT add-on settings. Since then my Zigbee2MQTT add refuses to start up. To fix this problem, I reverted to a back up of my home assistant. I believe I did not in fact due the zigbee channel change properly? Oddly enough, my zigbee network still works but again acts up (lights take two to three times before responding, etc). I can see within the Zigbee2MQTT addon logs the MQTT messages regarding my zigbee network. However, the Zigbee addon fails to start up. Also I can't see within the addon logs what the problem is. There is no error messages that I can see regarding the fail to start. I only see the zigbee messages from my network.
Hi,
I migrated my ZHA network from sonoff dongle-e to skyconnect and it worked as expected.
Then I flashed a router firmware to the sonoff and plugged it in and connected it to the network.
Then I checked the visualization. The sonoff router is displayed as a rectangle and it has the device type coordinator. I cannot see the skyconnect in the visualization.
Why is the router seen as coordinator? Have I done anything wrong?
I was planning to improve my network, but now it seems that I have some kind of remote coordinator ๐คทโโ๏ธ
The original sonoff is sharing the same ieee address now. You need you can reflash to coordinator, download a backup and manually edit to change the ieee, the restore the backup and then reflash router fw.
Ah ok. That makes sense, but seems not straigt forward. Thank you. I will try!
The migration writes the ieee from the original coord to the new one. It does reset the original but the duplicate ieee does present a new potential issue if reflash end as a router like you did
you can do the backup/restore dance with zigpy-cli if you don't want to mess with your zha set up
I understand. I am not able to remove the device from ZHA now. Is there any way or should I restore from backup?
I'd let it be for now, change the ieee and re-write. you may have to manually edit some files to delete it or maybe puddly will see and have some ideas
Hello everyone, I have an issue were some zigbee devices get stuck on a state at random times, like my aqara water leak sensor for some reason stuck on "leaking", my sonoff motion sensor stuck on "occupied", my aqara door sensor stuck on "closed" or sometimes "open" and they stay stuck untill I repair them back again.
All of these devices are in less than 2 meter distance from a router and have an average of 120 linkquality, what could be the issue?
Please ping me when answering, Thanks in advance
Do you know where the automatic ZHA backups are saved in home assistant OS? can I get it via samba?
just download one from the current coordinator config page, the backups are in the zigbee.db
alternatively, flash the sonoff back to coord, use zigpy-cli to form a network, back it up edit, and restore all from cli
okay. I started with zigpy radio ezsp /dev/ttyACM0 info to try it out, but get an error. The path should be correct. Is ezsp correct?

Setting up a Phoscon Raspbee2 with Home Assistant
Hello, I have a major issue, my zigbee network have been unstable for the past few days, I'm using z2m and sometimes a lot of the devices get stuck on a state and loses connection and I have to re pair them back, like for example my aqara door sensor gets stuck to "closed" or "open" until I remove it and pair it back again, my sonoff motion sensor gets stuck on "clear" or "occupied", same with my aqara water leak sensor, even though I literally have a router next to each one of them and all have an average linkquality of 120.
And now all of a sudden all of my zigbee devices stopped working, I can't control them at all! lights, ACs, switches, plugs, nothing! errors filled z2m, I tired to restart HA from developer tools and it didn't work, restarted the whole VM and still, for some reason updating to the latest update of HAOS somewhat fixed it, but I still get errors, very high delay. what logs should I look for to know what's wrong? here are some errors in the z2m logs page

Hello Zigbee experts, I was directed here after sending an email to the Nabu Casa support account. I purchased a SkyConnect dongle and I am trying to find a way to generate a Zigbee code for connecting a Zigbee 3.0 smart electricity meter. My energy provider says that this pairing code is required in order to reach their meter. From the docs I cannot find any way to generate this code. Can you assist me?
As far as I know, neither ZHA nor Zigbee2MQTT support connecting to a power meter
it's a completely different protocol (profile)
If I'm not mistaken, in general, the power meter is a coordinator itself as opposed to an end device
In the US at least. Not sure about elsewhere
Could be. All I know is that I have to unplug my Eagle Rainforest if I'm trying to pair an Inovelli Blue switch near the meter
Interesting
there's some weirdo stuff going on there, described a bit on their forum
lots of finger pointing
but it's a reliable fix for me

only happens if the switch is somewhat near the meter & Eagle box
Hmm. I guess I'm confused because I've seen some Zigbee documentation that seems to indicate that the 3.0 version of the spec does support these "install codes". See this PDF for what I'm talking about -- https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/application-notes/an1089-using-installation-codes-with-zigbee-devices.pdf
my Inovelli Blue switches came with "install codes", but they have nothing to do with the energy profile
According to the very friendly but not very helpful SmartMeter support folks at PG&E (California based electric company) they've had other folks with Zigbee 3.0 radios connect to the meters just fine after providing them with these codes.
section 1.2 indicates that "ZSE" is different
but I have no experience with PG&E
you can also try this: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/opower/
Unfortunately that integration is poop with PG&E.
They can only give you data 2 to 3 days after the power usage has passed, and even then it is spotty.
Ok, well let's skip the power meter part of the question... Where does SkyConnect support the creation of "paring codes" for other Zigbee 3.0 devices?
it's not a Skyconnect question, but the integration that you're using to control it
ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT. And I don't know the answer to either
AFAIK, the only option when installing that dongle was ZHA, since I got it to specifically enable Matter, but got the Zigbee part as a bonus.
that thread is about a power meter
So I need to dump ZHA and switch to Zigbee2MQTT?
๐คท
Install codes are just a Zigbee 3.0 feature. They let you join new devices more securely and are usually shown as a QR code on the box. It won't help with connecting to a smart meter, which requires a $10,000+ certificate. Pre-made devices such as that Eagle box have a certificate and are designed to join an existing smart meter's network, have you type in a code (or communicate directly with the power company), and then shuttle data to you. There's no way to do this with a SkyConnect or any other coordinator, and won't be.
I'm not going to do any more Google searching ๐
OK, just so that I understand what I've gotten myself into here: I bought a piece of hardware from Nabu Casa and they sent me here for support. They don't support their own hardware?
What are you specifically trying to do with a SkyConnect?
nothing that's occurred here indicates that
it just sounds like you don't like the answer ๐คท
I don't have an answer that appears to be an answer is my point.
๐คทโโ๏ธ isn't an answer.
alright, I'm out. you got your answer above
To connect to a smart meter, you need three things: an install code generated by your power company device, an expensive certificate that cannot easily be purchased, and software that can talk to your smart meter. Some power companies generate install codes so you can input them into a pre-made device (e.g. that Eagle box) but the latter two requirements aren't met.
So it seems that the PG&E folks just don't know what they are talking about.
Not surprising, but sad.
They probably do
If they are asking me for an install code, then something is off.
I don't remember the specifics but it's either the device that generates it or your smart meter itself
Mine is on a label of my Eagle
In either case, it won't let you communicate with the smart meter because the meter requires your Zigbee device to have a smart energy certificate and I'm not aware of any single DIY device on the market that comes with one. Just those pre-made displays and bridges (e.g. Eagle)
That's what I would have thought, but the PG&E folks were so insistent that it's a code I needed to generate.
OK, it's off to the Matter forum for the other set of SkyConnect questions, then. Thanks.
Good luck!
Have been running a conbee II via USB for a while now without any issues. Im in the market now for a network zigbee device. Whats everyone suggest?
POE would be a plus
Def LAN and not a wifi device
Hey since a couple of days pretty much all my Zigbee devices have stopped working.
I'm getting the following error when I'm trying to turn on a light.
Failed to deliver message: <EmberStatus.DELIVERY_FAILED: 102>
https://pastebin.com/QQcnTC3Y
I'm using ZHA with SkyConnect.
Anyone has any clue what could be wrong and how to solve it?
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/adapters/#recommended lists some, Tube's are often recommended
Well... that's not really a choice
being a zigbee hub doesn't mean it works with homeassistant zigbee integrations
Can you upload diagnostics for the ZHA integration?
I purchased SkyConnect dongle from Ameridroid when it first came out and was never able to successfully install it. SkyConnect Multi-PAN
Zigbee Home Automation was successfully discovered and when I click on configure, And error message, โSkyConnect Multi-PAN
Zigbee Home Automation Unknown error occurredโ appeared. Has anyone come up with a resolution on how to resolve this issue?
I know this is likely my fault for turning off zigbee lights but is anyone else having major issues after adding in smart outlets from Ikea?
Your SkyConnect has multiprotocol firmware installed. If you want to use it with ZHA directly, you need to disable multiprotocol: https://skyconnect.home-assistant.io/procedures/disable-multiprotocol/. You can later re-enable it from the Hardware menu if you need multiprotocol.
Do end devices only make one connection to a router??
To one router or the coordinator. They should switch if the chosen router becomes unavailable/offline
Although some devices like (older) Xiaomi/Aqara gear do not switch in that case and youโll have to re-pair it
So to get the individual end devices to connect to a closer router... I would need to use the "add devices from this device" in zha... correct? it seems my end devices just pick a router at random and in some ways make bad choices....
Is it me or are smart wall switches like Lutron just not a thing in 220v? The only non-trashy thing I can find is aqara's generic clickers.
Thatโs what you need to do, then long-press the reset button to (re-)pair it.
Aqara devices will likely stick to that device, but other devices may switch to another router.
As long as they work, it doesnโt really matter if the pick is suboptimal
I'd sonoff or Shelly all my switches but sonoff's zigbee relays have multi second delays in response for some reason and Shelly is wifi only and way too big to fit my teensy junction boxes
Also note that the ZHA network visualization isnโt live and takes hours to update. A refresh may be triggered by using the button. You can refresh the page after ~5 to 40 minutes and it should have the new routes
Well I live on a Farm and I have tried to "extend" my reach with adding strategically placed routing devices and I just simply try to pair them generally ... so I thought it would pick the closest / strogest signal.... but they seem to pick some routers over other closer ones....
Older Aqara devices pick the first router they see, so itโs basically random what they pick.
Other devices should scan before picking one
well I appreciate the info.,... I just paired these devices this afternoon... maybe Ill give them a while to settle in... I have a aqara button and temp/humidty sensor in my chicken coop with a cree bulb in the coop but none of the end decices are talking to the cree... so if it doesnt sort its way out... I will repair via "this device" and see if I can make them a bit more reliable...
are not talking to the cree bulb is what I should have said... its 2:37 AM here
Thanks You ! @mellow geode
Hi i have a few Develco schuco power
Any cheap but good motion sensors I can find on AliExpress? I saw some tuya and sonoff but not sure what is recommended
most of the tuya ones perform ok considering you can get them for under 4$
sonoff has firmware issues
Xiaomi ones are ok, P1 are better than the original
So either Tuya or Xiaomi then
preferably xiaomi but you said cheap
Tuya is more likely to bring the pain
How about Aqara?
are the xiaomi ones only using the cr2450 batteries?
The new Aqara P1 sensors are zigbee 3.0, that being said, I'm using the old t1's and as long as you know the above they are pretty stable.
Yeah, of my ~60 Aqara devices only one has even given me problems, and that looked to be faulty hardware
so when i look for the p1 on aliexpress it shows them as door and window sensors.. and are quite pricey, is that what you all talking about because i need just a motion sensor
The P1 Motion sensors are more pricey than the old T1 motion sensors. The old version is still good for the price I think.
when i type that in in aliexpress, i get this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001972378851.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.3.59bd2b8f0nGacK&algo_pvid=85381e14-87ab-4a6f-9cbc-ced510f57d3c&algo_exp_id=85381e14-87ab-4a6f-9cbc-ced510f57d3c-1&pdp_npi=4%40dis!ILS!71.58!22.89!!!18.51!!%40211b88f116927934771555871e0205!12000018277616519!sea!IL!0!A&curPageLogUid=OLoOI5wS8shp
i guess thats not the same one then what you linked
that model RTCGQ02LM, looks to be the bluetooth version
Here's the "older" zigbee PIR: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/RTCGQ11LM.html#xiaomi-rtcgq11lm
Damn you... I can't type that fast! LoL
ok
that was the one i saw with the door and window title
yea, Aqara using P1 on two different sensor types is confusing
ah my bad, the motion sensor is found in western markets
i can buy it in my local stores
i dont see the model number anywhere on that page
thats the old one
Yeah, the T1
I've not seen the Aqara Motion Sensor P1 (RTCGQ14LM) on aliexpress, usually all I see is the older model RTCGQ11LM
oh
because its not for chinese markets
the E1 motion sensor is expected to be found there once its fully released
so if thats not a option, what was the tuya (or other brand) you recommended?
oh is that soon @violet dagger
no
you can get it in UAE though https://www.spanningglobal.com/product/aqara-e1-smart-motion-sensor/
dont think buying from there is an option for me
or get the high precision one from alix
which is the high precisions one
where in the globe are you?
israel
usually buy things from aliexpress, als o can buy from ikea locally. i saw a sensor there for about 20usd
I'd pick up the RTCGQ11LM (original) and test it out in your use case... Once you know the devices limitations, you can usually work around them
I got the RTCGQ11LM here for about $12US
that one u just linked is like 50 cents
no, that's the holder, check the "color" selector
o
click on the single pir
and the price will change
but NOT the description
been there, done that, ๐
ya i got tricked ๐
cant tell you how many times i got relatives who ordered the wrong thing because of that trick
besides being new, whats difference between p1 and t1?
biggest diff I recall is the "timeout" to clear
so once it detects presensce believe the T1 has a 75 second cool down period BEFORE it will pick up moment again
here's a goog comparsion: https://homesmart.sg/2022/05/14/aqara-motion-sensor-vs-p1/
P1 can be turned as low as 10 seconds for re-detection
P1 has two batteries, T1 has 1 battery. P1 is zigbee 3.0 vs zigbee 1.2, P1 has motion timepout config, T1 has 1 minute static timeout.
and how do these aqara t1 compare to the tuya ones?

don't know, i don't do Tuya
i got a couple of there temp sensors and they working fine so far for me for how much i paid for them
@sour shadow do you know if the ikea motion sensor is really good? i saw it at the store but its basically 2x or 3x of the price of what we talking about here
so i didnt buy it
i got the Xiaomi blue tooth temp sensors
as I try to keep the # of addon's to a minimum if possible
they were about $4us a piece
the ikea sensor i saw is: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/E1525_E1745.html
quick glance, it looks to be on par with the P1
dual batteries
cooldown timeout selectable
does not look to be available to me in the US
Ikea has released a few revisions of the motion sensors. I have had two of them (don't know their names), but have had some problems with keeping them connected to my ZHA system. They work great with the ikea tradfri hub.
by the way, how long are the aqara battery life?
oh nice
I've got some of their door/window sensors that are going on 3 years now with original batteries
I've got a P1 sensor back in March, and the battery is reporting at 100% still
but of course, the environment (temp/humdity/etc) will also play in how long they last
Does anyone have any insight into resetting the scenic gira friends of hue switches and connect them to ZHA? The instructions only include how to connect them but not how to disconnect them from a hue system
ZHA doesn't currently support Zigbee green power devices so there's no way to use it at the moment with ZHA
Hey, is there a way to reduce how often an Aqara temp/humi sensor send values ?
They don't have any settings to change, no
Ok thx
Hi, I have flashed a Sonoff Zigbee Bridge with Tasmota, and installed the ZHA template onto Tasmota, installed ZHA integration, and it successfully found the Zigbee gateway
Now how do I go about adding Zigbee end devices e.g. control / sensors?
You click Add integration then Add Zigbee device
is in zigbee2mqtt any provision to reduce the pay load data for sending to mqtt broker? as i have few Xoami aquara door sensor & motion sensor. my mqtt broker complain about the big pay load 2023-08-19T23:43:40.231815Z ERROR rumqttd::server::broker: Disconnected!!, error: Network(Io(Custom { kind: InvalidData, error: "Payload size has been exceeded by 21323 bytes" }))
hi! new to the discord. my frustrations with skyconnect finally pushed me to seek help. i did a search and it seems like several others are reporting problems similar to mine. devices just randomly drop off either by going unavailable, or i get a "failed to deliver" message when trying to control them. i'm using zha.
has a hardware or firmware issue been confirmed with the skyconnect? i just ordered a sonoff dongle to see if i have better luck with it, but i'd really like to use the skyconnect since i could potentially start using thread devices in the future.
Are you using a sufficiently long usb extender? I know a guy earlier today had an issue with the one supplied in the box
i'm using a 3ft usb 2.0 cable. i didn't use the one in the box.
Can you download the diagnostic file from zha integration
and share it here?
Itโll show the environment scan and other things to help diagnose
fuck
is it on channel 25?
should be in there i dont really debug zha much

ya it is
if @austere patio is around he can try to help diagnose zha skyconnect issues. you probably need to provide some other logs though
alright. well thanks for taking a look. i was super happy to get off of smartthings hub finally, but the zigbee stuff has been driving me crazy. at least my zwave stuff seems to be working fine.
i use z2m instead of zha and use a tube PoE coordinator instead of a usb one
but zha and z2m are both stable - i have absolutely seen some people having issues with skyconnect but it always ends up being interference related (shit mesh, bad channel choice, etc)
this is also why i am very choosy with which devices i put on both my zigbee and zwave meshes
do you happen to have inovelli blue light switches too?
i don't. ge switches.
y u c k
lol
#zwave-archived guys have steered me clear from the ge/jasco shitfest
i have almost all hue bulbs for zigbee repeaters and almost all zooz light switches for zwave
i have sengled bulbs and they have been great up until now. as much as i hated smartthings because their service just constantly had problems, the hub itself never had connectivity issues with my devices. but as soon as i migrated to the skyconnect, now my bulbs keep dropping off.
shit
sengled bulbs arent repeaters and just generally arent great devices
colors arent great, transitions flicker
sengled bulbs break the zigbee spec for mains devices being repeaters so they dont help strengthen a mesh lol
6 years using them no problem. then skyconnect.
i suppose your ST hub might've just had a better antenna design / radiation pattern that allowed your lack of a great mesh to still work
i'm not arguing with you just pointing things out
zigbee and zwave are mesh protocols depending on repeaters to get signals across the house man
what repeaters do you have?
i have aotec plugs. 2 zwave. 2 zigbee. one of each upstairs, and one of each downstairs.
i also cut power to the bulbs because i want switches to work like switches. but i guess that doesn't matter if you are saying they aren't repeaters anyway.
in general that's a bad thing but yes because they arent repeaters, they are okay to cut power to technically
that's the logic sengled used when choosing to violate the zigbee spec
is your skyconnect centrally located in the house?
https://tubeszb.com/product/cc2652p2-based-zigbee-to-poe-coordinator-2023/ this is what i use now
i was using a sonoff P dongle
PoE coordinators are nice because a lot of times someone's server/pi/whatever with the usb dongles hanging off it isnt really centrally located like a basement or corner of the house
yeah, pretty central. but i've noticed it doesn't matter what the distance is from the dongle. devices near or far both randomly go unavailable.
i see
ya then could be something else. puddly is the zha maintainer and works at nabu casa and helps diagnose skyconnect related issues so he's your man but seems like he's not around right now
hopefully he jumps in later/tomorrow and tags you
not sure what else to suggest but ultimately you dont have a strong mesh.. regardless of "how things worked with smartthings"
so my suggestion is to get some more repeaters :/
it certainly wont hurt
now that i'll have a skyconnect and a sonoff, can i use one as the coordinator and the other as a repeater / booster / router whatever you call it?
you can flash router firmware on one yes
you'll have to look up how i've never needed to
it's suggested to just buy devices that repeat not dedicated repeaters with no added functionality
alright. you might be right with the weak network. again, it just was never an issue with the ST hub. but it seems very plausible. thanks again.
i'd buy a 4 pack of hue bulbs and replace some sengled bulbs and see if they magically work
but killing power to them is just gonna make your mesh suck even worse
cuz then known working routes will be dead
some people just buy like smart plugs and sprinkle them around but again.. kind of silly to buy shit you dont really need to use
light bulbs / light switches that you actually need / want is ideal
are you in the us?
do people rewire their smart switches to not actually cut power to bulbs when they are toggled? what happens in the event of a power outage / restoration. i don't want the lights just coming on in my kids rooms in the middle of the night.
yeah, in the us
no
people buy smart switches with smart bulb mode
and then the switch doesnt kill power to the bulbs (the relay)
oh wtf i didn't know that existed
yep
i use all zwave light switches in smart bulb mode with all zigbee light bulbs
and home assistant sees the light switch taps/double taps/triple/hold/etc
and then automates off those
downside to that is, if hass is down, or zigbee, or zwave, then my light switches dont work.
workaround is using zigbee light switches + light bulbs and binding them so they work even if hass is down
or zwave equivalent
multiple options
Or if you have Tasmota switches and bulbs, you can set them up to talk via MQTT or with something called device groups which communicates over UDP. These are WiFi devices though
if you use good bulbs (like hue) they have power loss restore options. i have mine all set to restore to previous state
so smart switches are always supplying power after outage but lights never come on cuz hue bulbs remember previous state
do the device groups over UDP use broadcasts like with zigbee groups so they all turn on at once?
or is there a noticable delay?
It's insanely fast
In my experience, it's so fast it makes it look like it's just a regular switch
i've realized i have way too many wled devices and had to add another AP cuz my phone kept getting bounced from AP to AP with airtime fairness issues i think
There's the occasional hiccup where some lights turn on slightly after the others, but that's just the nature of UDP
ya but zigbee groups using broadcast basically operates on the same logic
yet my 11 bulbs in my kitchen are always in sync when i call the zigbee group
Well, with Tasmota device groups, all devices in the group know the specific other devices in the group
Not the case with zigbee groups sadly which are a broadcast that ends up being repeated three times by all routers on the network
ya the zigbee broadcast across the entire mesh when you only target one zigbee group is crazy
three times?
Yeah
./giphy kekw-pain-dot-jiff
do you happen to have inovelli blue light switches too?
did you ask this earlier because this is a bad switch to get? or is it a good one?
yes
i mean no i dont have them, yes it's a good one, yes it seems to have some routing related issues
i was trying to draw a parallel to a few other cases with inovelli blue issues with skyconnect that people have had
@fair mountain you're the guy still figuring out what's up with that right?
but generally i do suggest inovelli blues cuz they seem to be the best hardware for us based people wanting smart zigbee switches (the alternatives are basically chyna designed and produced which is.. not great)
i dont personally have any cuz $50 a switch is too much for me
hence why i went zwave zooz switches lol
I've been using an IKEA 4 button remote for a year or so with ZHA on Skyconnect. I just noticed that the device does not have any event entities. I'm guessing I need to wait for further updates to HA/ZHA?
Yes. At moment it is just supported by Matter, Hue (integration), MQTT and HomeKit Devices
im searching for an IR bluster/remote to controlle AC and old tvs. i found RM4 pro but i dont want to download an app in all the way of the prosses i want the home to be 100% offline. dose anyone know of something like that?
yeah I kinda gave up .. 2.15 seems better but now im back to firmware issues with z-stack, and i was just talking to someone about how im done with Zigbee. network was stable for a month and now everything is falling over again.
Bummer
(and i havent updated anything.)
im going to sell this house so im probably just going to abandon all the switches here lol
All inovelli blues? Damn
Thatโs like 5% of their entire stock
lol oh and that's the other problem ..
they have no stock.
it took me 2 months to get replacement switches for ones that were DOA
oh back to skyconnect ...
so, EMG (skyconnect) doesnt play nicely with Hue battery powered sensors. I didnt have any problems with Inovelli switches, though. However, z2m is very much "will eat your children" with EMG now, so you're basically stuck with ZHA.
if you lived in dfw i'd come take all the switches and install home depot cheapos ๐
ya that's unacceptable
i still have the box of decora
just what a pain in the butt, would have to redo all the careful wire management and remove the neutrals ..
so you never tried z2m to see if your issues magically went away?
im on z2m now
ya i get it
oh
i switched away from ZHA because I broke my network up
with efr32?
no i am back on a cc stick, because I wasnrt willing not to be able to use $400 worth of hue sensors lol
they are probably the favourite part of my zigbee network
i'm happy with all my hue bulbs too tho
me too
i removed 10 year old hue stuff from my main network
and stuck it on my second network, along with some Sengled plugs that really broadcast spam
also removed a Linktap controller from my house physically (unplugged it)
ya i've heard first gen hue is bad for routing
okay so my most STABLE network (it lasted a month without any issues) has been TWO z2m 1.32.1, Z-Stack 20221226 on SMLIGHT SLZB-06 PoE.
Z-StaCk firmwares after 20221226 are garbage, there's a massive issue about it on Github (and I warned them before they released it that its broken .. but eh whatever)
ive got 166 devices on my first network and 12 on my second
anyway, im so fed up with zigbee. it should "just work" most of the time and it doesnt.
yeah i was on that one for a long time
i'm on the latest stable now and think i've run into a couple issues but didnt bug me enough to chase down
but my mesh is only like 55 devices
im looking at moving to a larger house and im seriously debating what to do, i really like being able to control everything centrally and use adaptive lighting
10 hue hubs? ๐ lol
idk part of me says try splitting into sub 100 max devices per mesh and see if that magically fixes things
i'm not really a fan of the hue hubs myself
neither
idk what the new house is going to be anyway, its possibly i will have to rewire the whole thing with neutrals
the zigbee group control for 10+ bulbs in one room works better with z2m than it did on hue
might not even have cat6 drops lol
ye
i dont think its that what i need
i found this for ir remote
https://vestaaustralia.com.au/products/zigbee-wireless-universal-ir-controller/
and this zigbee usb stick
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PZ7ZHG5
if i buy both will they work without an app etc? from what i reserched they will work with out an app but just asking in case i missed something
that ir controller is cool i didnt know those existed. the conbee you definitely should not buy tho
then what usb i should buy?
all i want is to controlle my ac and i spent 7h searching and getting nothing
can you help me with that or just give me some setup u know of?
I would personally use a cc2652p based coordinator and z2m to control it
Lots of good info pinned in this channel
One cheap option is a sonoff p dongle for around $20-30 off amazon or less on alie
You can also buy PoE coordinators which is what Iโm using now. Letโs you place it centrally located
coordinators are the "routers"?
oh i thought that called router
Routers are mains devices that extend the mesh and repeat signal like light bulbs, light switches, smart plugs
There are a few mains devices that donโt repeat like sengled bulbs. Donโt buy those
thanks
And have mostly hue zigbee bulbs which are all routers
Then motion sensors and stuff that use the mesh as well but donโt repeat. Those are called end devices
Like battery devices
thats helped a lot, i thought all devises are the part of the mesh
if i can ask one last thing, do u know of an ir bluster that uses zigbee?
expet what i sent
A part of the mesh and repeaters arenโt the same tho
I googled after you posted yours yes there are many. I donโt have any suggestions cuz Iโve never used them
There is also open mqtt gateway but maybe more diy than youโre comfortable with
can u send it pls?
Google it dude
thanks for the info
Does anyone know why in MQTT I can see the value, but in home Assistant it doesn't appear?
I am ruling our Z2M as I can see everything perfectly, and it is being passed correctly to MQTT....it just doesnt appear in HQ. (Everything else for the device is working and showing correctly)
Anyone know what the heck is going on here? Was working a minute ago, and since remotely turning it off, it doesnt work

Have you seen https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/89311#issuecomment-1565740967 ?
I'll have to double check later but I think Z-Stack enables insecure joins in the firmware (not something that should be done in Zigbee 3.0), which is why you don't see the same behavior.
Someone has same issue with aqara humidity / temp sensor? Device became unavailable.
In HA
Thanks
Ill look into that
To be honest , i think its broken. It felt when attaching to wall , or either it got to moist. I wanted to use it in the shower to prevent light going out while showering
This was just a frontend bug with the "joined device" card, not really an issue, and not one that's still present
but its not rated for that
I did see it, but I forgot about it. Thanks.
Hi friends. I got a ZigBee presence sensor and I've been trying to get the quirk to work and I have no idea what I'm doing anymore
Ahh I can't post photos
anyone able to successfully Firmware flash a Sonoff Zigbee Dongle Plus?
I am getting
error timeout waiting for ack/nack after synch
it is pushing the dongle into Boot Loader mode, I can see the little light Turn Green
but it just wont actually do anything
i've got a particular devicie that keeps going offline, or sometimes "losign connection" without saying it's offline. the only way to reconnect it seems to be to go to add a zigbee device again and it'll reestablish connection and show the device. tapping the pair button on it etc doesnt do anything otherwise
how can i go about troubleshooting this to figure out whats going on?
- What device?
- What router is it connected to?
- Did you check for WiFi interference?
- Aqara vibration sensor lumi.vibration.aq1
- An ikea light, TRADFRIbulbE26WSglobeopal1100lm
- Current LQI 255, RSSI -65, there's a new network on wifi channel 4, that wasnt there before, which my phone picks up at between -60 to -80 dBm on the path between the sensor and the router. other than that one network, there's nothing on wifi that should be causing interference
i thought it might have been the battery at first, but i still experienced the issue when i swapped batteries
the battery measurement itself appears to be unreliable. it always sticks between 70-73% except for when i first repair the device where the battery hangs around 9-20% before eventually jumping back to that 70-73 range
is power to the router bulb cut sometimes?
nah, it's always plugged in and powered
i was looking at my logs and it looks like the device was checking in fine, then my zigbee server restarted for some reason, and when it came back online, the device wasnt responding. So i had this from the multiprotocol addon
Restarting
[05:18:54:108619] Info : Endpoint socket #12: Client disconnected. 1 connections
[05:18:54:108907] Info : Client disconnected
[05:18:55:117675] Info : New client connection using library v4.3.1.0
[05:18:55:124479] Info : Endpoint socket #12: Client connected. 2 connections
Reusing socket from previous instance.```
And this line in my zha logs ````2023-08-25 05:19:01.362 DEBUG (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.zha.core.gateway] [0x4ADF](LUMI lumi.vibration.aq1) restored as 'available', last seen: 0:05:27 ago, consider_unavailable_time: 21600 seconds``
but it never actually responded after that restart
maybe i'll have to check in thefuture, see if this happens every time
ok either this was a different issue al ltogether or it's related that the vibration sensor losing connection is being caused by a different device
so i'll justhave to keep an eye out
all i can say for sure is that whenever this happens, short tap on the pairing button makes it blink twice, which supposedly means the sensor is linked to thenetwork, but clearly its not sending its messages successfully
if anyone has any ideas what to look for next time it happens, would be helpful
if it is an Aquara device, they are known to not follow proper Zigbee protocols. you need to find a compatable router, i know theres a list somewhere
If I have a smart relay module, can I wire it up so that it can communicate with HA (over ZB) while not actually controlling anything (the lights that it'd normally control are smart, so I need them always powered)
Specifically, I have a sonoff zbmini2. Im considering some zbmini (not 2) if necessary, because I suspect the 2s not requiring a neutral wire means they're dependent on the bulbs to complete the circuit
Although perhaps when wiring the bulbs to always be hot, I could include the relays line out there as well
I'll have an electrician doing it for me, but he's not familiar with relays so I want to work out how the wiring should go
Well, why? Why have a relay that doesn't control the load?
If that's so you can use the switch as an input for HA then the module has to support decoupled/smart bulb mode
Which that one doesnt
Would the zbmini 1, which does use a neutral wire, support that?
Or alternatively, are there any recommended zigbee relays that do support that? I don't want to replace the whole switch because it's in a gang box with another smart relay + switch going to dumb bulbs
if the device has a "decouple" or "smart bulb" mode it supports that
Okay. I really like ZB but I haven't been able to find a ZB relay that has those modes, at least not mentioned in any product pages. I found an article mentioning Shelly (wifi) relays have that mode though, so I'll probably pick some of those up
Some do but they are Tuya
Aqara also makes some that do.
And then yeah if you want to go WiFi you could get a Shelly 1 or flash a Sonoff Mini with esphome.
If the tuya relays still go through zigbee, does it matter? They don't need to phone home or anything, right?
But yeah I just realized the Shelly relays are also wifi repeaters. That actually sounds awesome, so I think I'll do that
Tuya is known for devices that don't follow spec, and their quality can be hit or miss.
wifi repeaters? are you talking about bluetooth proxies?
if so, they dont do active connections
It looks like the new gen of Shelly stuff just provides WiFi range extension for other Shelly devices, so that's not really going to do anything for you unless you're planning on getting more Shelly devices and you have problems with WiFi coverage.
Just going off the product page it doesn't seem to only be a repeater for other Shelly devices
are all Aqara zigbee based devices can be add to zigbee2mqtt without any active connection nor app? as far as i know Aqara wifi based devices do need an app
active connection?
they need a zigbee mesh or to be close to the coordinator
no added app
sorry, by saying "active connection" i meant by phoning home, etc for the init setup
we wouldnt be buying chyna devices if they required phoning home
well some people would cuz they dont care about privacy and might not be the smartest, but a lot of us wouldnt lol
i know but i meant to start using them some youtubers said they need to connect a device to a server (tuya)
Ah, the good old vague "somebody"
well better than somebody.. it was a youtuber trying to extract value out of people
he must be trusted
@nocturne river When using Discord's Reply feature it defaults to pinging the person you reply to, which can get frustrating for the target. Use Shift + click on the Reply option, or click @ ON to @ OFF to stop this - on the right side of the compose bar.
You have to change this every time (thank the Discord devs for that).
that domain looks extra trustworthy too
