Nice, I’m waiting for an Anker M5
i cant really justify backing an 'established company' like that on kickstarter
im hopeful they'll help push the goalposts further but something like that is probably not gonna be game changing long term
If it leads to good product… why not
for one it sets a bad precedent that companies can offload all risk to consumers
specifically speaking about established companies, not companies starting out with no cashflow
@tropic depot so I plugged the stick into my desktop but when I run 'ncp.py scan' it says {"ports": []} and doesn't find a stick. This is from Windows, I assume that's not a problem?
hmmm can i upgrade the stick directly from inside HA? I bought a Dell thin client with HAOS pre-installed on it because I couldn't get my hands on a RPi during covid so I don't actually know if it's on docker or how to access anything else on the system outside of HA
no, you’d need to ssh into the container and pull the project down with git etc
Install the right driver linked above and try again on windows
was looking forward to getting my Sonoff E controller tonight and migrating everything over but it got bumped to tomorrow
NOW what am I gonna do with my friday night??
Modern warfare 2 just came out 🤷🏻♂️
Start redoing dashboards
@tropic depot firmware update successful 😎 thanks for your help
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCNxgb0mrSA <- like that
hope that does it, will give ZHA another try
You have the coord on an extension cable right?
yeah
i wouldnt suggest using that usb stick for zwave btw @glad plinth
Before you try again lets finish the checklist
with upgraded fw it might be fine for zigbee but not zwave-js
What channel is WiFi?
I have a very limited Z-Wave network right now anyway, just a few motion sensors
i'd buy a zooz or aeotec 700 series stick and move the devices off it (and buy a usb extension cable to put said new usb stick on)
WiFi is Google Home WiFi so I can't change the channel (I know, I know), I'm getting Ubiquiti stuff soon to replace this garbage
Really? That’s insane
I just bought my house a few months ago, previously just been in apartments so didnt really notice
dude those eero mesh crap devices wont even let you change dns on them
ok then try again I guess
I actually had no idea i couldnt change channel until I tried to do it to strengthen my Zigbee network
so they're going straight in the trash as soon as possible
i chose zigbee channel 25 and put my channel 11 ap farthest away from the usb stick
I’m 15 zigbee and 11 for 2.4 WiFi
i use 1/6/11 with three APs all with ht20 band width
they’re more than far enough apart to coexist
yea
yeah i think i might change my Zigbee channel too, the default for ZHA is 15 but wondering if thats interfering
my channel 11 AP radiation pattern shoots out towards the street away from all my other devices
15 is in between 1 and 6 and generally works in most scenarios
so it's the ideal scenario imo
Google Wifi claims that it "automatically detects the best channel based on other devices in the area"... sure
Leave it for now
well im sure it does like overnight but if there's interference everywhere then there is no "best"
btw i just noticed there is a "HUSBZB-1 fw update cheatsheet" pinned in this channel
useful to point people to
the pins here are all very useful
yea i've asked for some to be added and removed in various channels
yep just did
its in pairing mode, HA searching for devices.... still nothing tho
the coordinator is downstairs and this switch is upstairs, am I just too far? I don't know what else to do
🤔
maybe i should install another switch closer to the coordinator first
do you have any other mains powered zigbee devices?
nope these switches are my first
How far apart are they?
just sensors otherwise, but the sensors paired without issue
Oh how many sensors are paired
house is 4000sqft, coordinator is bottom right of house, i'm top middle
5 sensors
its connecting successfully to sensors at the other end of downstairs
Sensors aren’t in wall cavities with bundles of copper near them
fair
okay
when i'm working outward, do i need to do anything special to connect the farther ones, or will it just naturally find the best path?
castle 🏰
i am still adoptable.. only 34.. got a few good years left
I don't think I can adopt someone that's the same age as me, seems sus
it's a brave new world
you gotta ask my wife
do you have any aqara sensors?
Hahahahaha
yes, all of them are aqara
i've read those wont get new routes if you move them
they’ll hold
so let them lie in their final resting place then join
yep they all paired fine from their final location
got one on each garage door, and all exterior doors
but thats all on the same floor as the coordinator
ya but arent you going to be adding new mains powered devices?
yes
ahh i got u
If they work they work
I'm going to have 20 mains powered switches in the house by the end of the weekend
?
i'll go slap one in a wall downstairs and see if that one can connect, thanks for all your help fellas i appreciate you
I'll report back in a bit and let you know how it went
ill follow up with the adoption papers
Keep us posted
my wife is a lawyer so if you need help with the paperwork lmk
@glad plinth any progress?
i am having serious issues with deconz right now
completely dropping out sec i cant even connect to the raspbee
seems like there was an update yesterday to it and my troubles started then.
confirmed lost in the sauce
I managed to connect one switch that's very, very close to the coordinator
But nothing beyond that unfortunately
I can't get the second switch to connect to either the coordinator or the other switch, and it's only maybe 15-20 feet away
There's a few walls in-between but it's not very far
ok so wanna do a test?
Sure
disable your wifi
to rule it out
can you get to HA wired?
since you can't change the channel...
there has to be some form of inetrference
HA is wired yeah and I can connect remotely
do this first
that will tell us how the radio env is
start here actually <#zigbee-archived message>
using the ssh addon
SSH addon says bash: docker: command not found
for docker exec -it homeassistant /bin/bash
OS Version HAOS 8.2, Core 2022.10.1
What is this from?
Oh just telling me?
ok i think i need the other SSH addon for that, this one doesnt have that option but i've installed the other one previously
one sec
fml, the Web UI for SSH & Web Terminal is 502 Bad Gateway
going to restart HA
i have no idea whats going on
the add-on won't work
Hrm
i installed SSH & Web Terminal from Community Add-ons, but it wont start
it starts, and then stops
idk man, im having shit luck today
oooh
i need to configure an SSH password
😂
Okay I'm in bash now
so i should use pip install git etc etc?
pip install git+https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy-cli.git, and then zigpy radio znp /dev/serial/by-id/<tab complete it> energy-scan
Disable ZHA first?
i got a big ugly python stack trace
i ran
zigpy radio ezsp /dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_Hubz_Smart_Home_Controller_1160006C-if0 energy-scan
no such file or directory is what it looks like the result was
Have we confirmed he doesn’t live in a metal box
no its a castle remember with like turrets and a flag
lmmmmao
alas, the interior is made of the same paper walls as the normal non-castle owners
I vote buy a better controller then diagnose rf issues if they still exist
I'm not opposed to that idea, just unclear to me if that will actually help
other than being old and having 2 different chips in it for Zigbee and ZWave, what would make a different coordinator better?
It helps rule out failing hardware on your old as shit device tho
I only bought this thing not even a year ago, i didnt realize it was old AF
It hasn’t been suggested in this discord for a while.. I almost made the same mistake lol
pretty sure i saw it suggested on the HA forum but who knows how old the post was, maybe it was reddit
Ya but Reddit is like a big ocean and sometimes a tiny doesn’t know shit fish 🐠 swims up and gives advice
what about the SONOFF ZBDongle-P?
i just have a hard time justifying spending time on obsolete gear when you could upgrade and then start fresh and rule out issues as you go
i have and like the sonoff p dongle
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5201109 i printed that to mount it with double sided tape
arrives Sunday
guess I'll just go around the house installing the switches this weekend while i wait
also got it for free cuz amazon points 😎
i'd buy that or the aeotec 700 series for zwave
and a usb extender for both or one if you have one
eh I only have like 2 z-wave motion sensors right now and they seem to work fine with the old dongle, maybe i can just disable the zigbee on this POS and keep it for ZWave?
or i'll just leave Z-Wave out of it for now until i get my Zigbee stable
i wouldnt
i know they're totally unrelated protocols but one problem at a time
most people pick one mesh and build that out
i went full retard so i have both
i liked the zwave light switch options and the zigbee bulb options
yeah i had a really hard time deciding between Zigbee and ZWave tbh
however the inovelli blue zigbee switches seem fine, but they're $50 a piece which is hard to justify
it's really easy to make zwave fall on its face
ZWave is attractive because of its range and low power consumption but doesn't seem to be getting as much love recently
i like the zwave protocol better but i think zigbee actually works better especially as you increase in mesh size
exactly
it's "range" is actually still shit bro
it penetrates walls better which is important in a castle
if you dont have a light switch or some powered device every 10 meters then it's bad
speaking from experience
fair enough
Make sure you got the zigbee part and not zwave
Zigbee also seems much closer to Thread/Matter, and the Inovelli switches are actually capable of being flashed to Thread supposedly
we'll see how that pans out, they already started a separate Thread specific switch project
i think planning for thread/matter is more of a pipe dream than a necessity. even if it does happen sooner rather than later, chances of guys like us using hass having much benefit is pretty low imo
at least based on all the surface level shit i've read/watched
yeah, i'm keeping an eye on it but i'm not running out to replace all my equipment thats for sure
IP-addressable devices are attractive for sure
Cannot connect with zha through Home assistant integration wizard. Sonoff Zigbee Pro flashed with Tasmota 12.2.0.2 when I get to the screen where I'm supposed to put in the socket and the connection speed it won't connect..... even though I'm able to access the Zigbee bridge via WiFi..... followed the tutorials on: https://zigbee.blakadder.com/Sonoff_ZBBridge-P.html and digiblur but something's missing. I'm even able to see the aqanet sensors on the Tasmota home page. Just can't get home assistant to link up.
oh yeah make sure to flash the sonoff dongle with new fw before you get started with it
there's a guide for flashing w/ python
I don't know my ass from my elbow about this stuff @slender sapphire but you're in good company with these guys, hope you figure it out!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eYnURcDrWw that link was purple for me i think i followed that guide
thanks..... I'm really close but just seem to be missing something
thanks again @grim igloo and @tropic depot for all your support tonight, ya'll some real ones
gets adopted
Keep tryin
Zigbee dongle...? How's this different than the Sonoff Bridge Pro
that link was for sintech @slender sapphire
ok sorry
@tropic depot wasnt the zbbridge one of the devices that blackholes routes?
or was that another
No but is that WiFi based?
on his link ```For Home Assistant (ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT)
This mode creates a TCP bridge from the zigbee module to Home Assistant or Zigbee2MQTT. In this case Tasmota is only relaying all the messages from the zigbee module and you cannot use any Zigbee commands in Tasmota console in this mode. All setup needs to be done from the Home Assistant ZHA integration or.
After Zigbee firmware is flashed and confirmed working in ZIgbee2Tasmota mode, apply the template:```
If that’s the WiFi one I don’t even bother helping
cuz it's shit?
Right but is it WiFi
The latency on anything but a bullet proof WiFi network (nearly impossible) kills zigbee performance
You either need a lan based POE or USB coord IMHO
I think they have one that is lan based now but I don’t know for sure
Interesting, there are POE ZigBee coordinators? Is there any inherent benefit to those vs a USB coordinator connected directly to HA?
yes there are and people seem to like them
they can be placed in a more central location
Just placement
they work very well
I'm wiring my whole house with 10GB PoE in January so this is interesting
yea im not against them
i've been recommending the tube PoE coordinator based on other suggestions and his good attitude here 😛
he said they'll be back in stock in a couple weeks if you want to get on his list @glad plinth
added a favorite so that i can forget about it next week, thanks!
just gotta be careful about the WAF - I can see it now "why is there a USB dongle hanging from the ceiling in the living room?"
😂
you can 3d print an enclosure for it
"why is there an ugly plastic box in the middle of the ceiling in the living room?" 🤣
ugly plastic box?!
I'd just hide it inside the ceiling fan or something haha
rocktopus duh...
no.. no you wouldnt
that sounds like a faraday cage with extra steps
so people in here think this is a bad way to go? https://sonoff.tech/product/gateway-amd-sensors/zbbridge-p/ I was following this fellow and wanted to hook up some water leak sensors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E9MjdWZg_8&t=227s
I really don't know the first thing about it, I've never used a WiFi based Coordinator, but I can see why people are not in love with the idea just due to the fact that it relies on WiFi
and sometimes WiFi and Zigbee don't play nice
ok.... is there a recommended ( read relatively straightforward way) to get these Aqanet sensors to talk with Home Assistant?
btw @glad plinth are you positive you bought the E dongle not the P dongle?
i had issues finding the P on amazon when i googled earlier
pulls out adoption folder
why would they make two different ones, dumb
if you want to try ZHA again then the E should be fine
@tropic depot can confirm but it's not listed as experimental that i know of
For zha it’s fine
and brings either thread or thread/matter support
can you link that product? aqanet
im not sure if any z2m devs are actually in here btw just a lot of z2m users
just what is more mature for each
I don't really understand the differences between ZHA and Z2M to be honest
is there any reason I should care?
I just want a functioning smart home
when researching which to choose i went with z2m because the majority of people suggested it and the number of folks that went zha>z2m were way higher than z2m>zha
i also did not like the idea of how limited i was with the configuration in zha
but that seems to be changing
is there a performance difference i should consider between -E and -P
or just a chip difference
@slender sapphire can you link us to the devices you are talking about? I can't find them online
you said aqanet -.-
sorry... was going on memory
aqara are going to work with zha or zigbee2mqtt and multiple different controllers
I can't connect ZHA to my Zigbee hub
i know you showed us above that abomination
sounds like you need to buy a good one and return that
yeah most of my zigbee network is Aqara devices so a USB Zigbee coordinator would work fine, you don't need this Sonoff pro Wifi thing
It'll come down to the size of your space, and the location of your home assistant server, but a USB device plugged into a USB extension cable connected directly to your HA should be recognized pretty seamlessly by ZHA
so could it be the drivers?
The Zigbee2MQTT site has a pretty solid list of options - https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/adapters/#recommended
I don't know much about the WiFi device, so I'm not sure what problem you're having
we're saying you should just start fresh, ignore the wifi bridge thing you bought, get a proper dongle and profit
proper dongle would be something like the sonoff P dongle listed here
Sonoff ZBBridge : socket://[IP]:[PORT] for example socket://192.168.1.11:8888
ok... got it... ignore the bridge..... link for a proper dongle? Want to avoid the MQTT Zigbee at the moment.
i'd still suggest the same dongle lol
i cant find it in stock on amazon
if you are going to use ZHA instead of zigbee2mqtt then you can buy the E dongle instead of the P dongle
which is on amazon
@glad plinth did you send a link? I'll amazon it....
i messaged you sintech
@slender sapphire this will work fine if you want to use ZHA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B6P22YJC?psc=1&smid=A2QBZNDSRNO1IV&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp
ok... thanks....so the 10,000 ft. view of this : Buy the dongle, home assistant will "see" it.... add your sensors.... automate?
For the total NOOB.... what's the "E" vs. the other versions?
you also want to buy a usb extension cable
the usb ports of your pi or pc or whatever you are running home assistant on cause interference
Why the extension cable?
ok... how long a cable?
that is a paper written by intel guys explaining it
idk just away from the usb ports and away from like a server rack or other metal
i use a 10ft and it works fine but 5ft or whatever is fine too
Mucho Gracias
-E and -P are based on different chips, -E works fine with ZHA but is listed as experimental for Zigbee2MQTT, -P works fine with ZHA & MQTT
also p is considered trusted because it's known working for a longer period of time (matters to some)
should one just get "P" to cover both options?......
if you're wanting zha then it doesnt matter. i have the p and it works for me
e is newer and can bring support in the future for thread/matter but whether we're gonna benefit from that much is to be seen
Is "P" type available ?
yes just not on amazon
not on amazon that i can see
you can buy it from other sources like aliexpress or directly from itead who makes the sonoff stuff
or maybe resells it?
yeah i linked it above
thanks
so if you were headed to a desert island and could only take one... which ?
sucks to come in here and realize you have the wrong shit but better not to waste more time on bad product
does the desert island have power?
nuclear
heh
no, I totally appreciate forthrightness
get the -P if you can wait a bit longer for it to arrive, the patience is what kills people (me)
the -E will arrive on an Amazon 2 day delivery truck, the -P will not
but the -P supports both in case you want to switch to Z2M some day
be warned tho, switching means setting up your devices again
I think I'll wait and get the one shipping from 、中国
hey @slender sapphire
I just found the -P on Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09KXTCMSC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
sorry, it was hard to find, if you haven't gotten one from china yet this is the one you want
Pre-flashed with Z-Stack / CC2652P is the -P
ahem, chyna*
Thanks... I just did the China thing but good info.... in 10 days or whatever I'll revisit the debacle that has been trying to get the damn bridge to work.
🙏 Thanks for your help
yep later dude
Anyone know what might cause certain sensors to be missing from devices in ZHA?
I’m using an aqara fp1 presence detector but it only shows one sensor (occupancy), when it is listed as having many more (and in a video about it someone shows more on their HA device page)
I’m on the conbee II and running ZHA
It’s correct that there’s only one sensor (when using it via ZHA). There are multiple device triggers for use in automations though
Ah I see, thank you!
You can also see the events firing in real-time on the device page or in the logbook
Gosh I want an Aqara FP1 so badly but not badly enough to order them off AliExpress
I'm jealous
Mine all arrived and they’re really nice, just took some time
If you want a sonoff USB-P stick - https://sonoff.tech/product/gateway-amd-sensors/sonoff-zigbee-3-0-usb-dongle-plus-p/ - or the sonoff USB-E stick - https://sonoff.tech/product/gateway-amd-sensors/sonoff-zigbee-3-0-usb-dongle-plus-e/ - click "buy now" in the upper right right, it direct links to the amazon product listings.
for me here in california, usa either one is $32 USD and I can have them in 48 hours via prime.
What other sensors are folks exposing?
hi all, having an issue with trying to get z2m set up in my unraid, think most is sorted although its not staying active. cant post a shot of my logs for some reason but my config is here https://pastebin.com/NHeM0qVF
Error: listen EADDRNOTAVAIL: address not available 192.168.86.9:9442
at Server.setupListenHandle [as _listen2] (node:net:1415:21)
at listenInCluster (node:net:1480:12)
at doListen (node:net:1629:7)
at processTicksAndRejections (node:internal/process/task_queues:84:21)
just noticed this as an error, not sure what it means
nevermind, seemed to have sorted it
Morning, I was chatting with the folks in here last evening and they recommended the dongle above(I went ahead and ordered it). Then, I got to thinking.... I never told them I'm using Portainer and a container as my Home Assistant install.... what/how will that affect the setup of ZHA in Home Assistant... and as always thanks for your ideas and thoughts.
some guys prefer a PoE coordinator instead of using usb passthru to a vm/container
but as long as your hypervisor supports usb passthru then you're fine with the sonoff or w/e usb dongle
So I'm having issues with my z2m, i cant get anything to connect, i managed to get two devices connected, one seemed ok the other wasnt properly connected it seemed but now nothing else, so i decided to change channels for my zigbee which obvisiouly reset everything and kicked the devices out but i cant get anything to reconnect, what the hell is going on? permit to join is all good. Anything else could be stopping it. Using unraid.
@grim igloo You mention hyper visor (which I'm thinking .... is that a Microsoft VM.... or is that a general term for a VM) to my knowledge it's docker but maybe I also used Virtual Box...(oracle I think)
Anyone here using Inovelli Blues with zigbee2mqtt yet? I'm used to setting device parameters in z-wave js, and this is my first real usage of zigbee2mqtt - and I'm a little lost on how to set parameters (like dimming speed, and min/max dim levels)
People use hypervisors to run VMs and docker containers. Hypervisor would be the OS in this case
Idk how you’re running a container without knowing what a hypervisor is lol
A few people were in here yesterday getting help with them- a search in this channel might yield some helpful info
@grim igloo the PoE coordinator is new to me.....that's what has me a little flummoxed on the whole Zigbee Bridge Pro as when I mentioned it, it seemed like the overwhelming response was negative so I'm headed another direction but when flashing it with Tasmota through the blakadder directions I thought the coordinator piece was part of that along with firmware to the chipset.
You definitely need to know how you’re running home assistant to get accurate answers tho
Yes because PoE coordinators have an Ethernet interface to your LAN not Wi-Fi.. big difference
This assumes you have a decent wired network setup not shoe strings of course
@grim igloo I'm using a docker container and portainer.....and virtual box
I'm on a Windows box.... and I thought my OS was Hass.io
Is there a way through SSH & Terminal to sort this?
hass.io is very old
if you're up to date then i guess youre setup is this: windows 10/11/server -> virtual box -> portainer managing containers
yes
but docker container home assistant is not the same as home assistant OS (previously hassio)
so that doesnt really make sense when you say hass.io
can I share screenshots somewhere.... pastebin or something?
did you install home assistant like years ago and never update it and now you are wanting to revisit?
if so, you are in for a rude awakening lol
you can upload to imgur they are allergic to pics here
My core is: 2022.5.4 and my HA OS is: 8.5
😦
then you arent running a container
you are running haOS
and it's 5 months out of date with no telling how many breaking changes
just one breaking change coming that I know of
in 5 months? i doubt that
idk we're outside the scope of zigbee at this point
if you need help with upgrading better to jump to #general-archived or maybe #installation-archived
you're deflecting...I'm really just wanting to talk about Zigbee.
deflecting lol.. have fun
I sensed your passive aggressiveness but was trying to be cordial.
you're being weird. i'll let someone else help you
exactly.....
Anyone ever had Deconz stop working randomly? My setup been working fine for years but today I am experiencing lights not responding to inputs, home assistant reflects the state changes in the UI just fine but the lights do not respond
Not other sensors exactly, just some extra info, like whether what it detects is moving towards the sensor or away.
In a video I saw of an earlier version those were listed under sensors in the device card instead of as triggers for automations
Can you link the video if you find it?
It's likely that was just Zigbee2MQTT doing things a bit differently than ZHA does them
You're probably going to get better support for this question from inovelli directly
@tropic depot @grim igloo fun fact, apparently I'm not alone and there are a lot of people experiencing pairing and routing issues with the new inovelli blues 😣
There's a whole troubleshooting thread on their forums now with lots of reports of failing to pair in zha/z2m from less than 10 feet. RIP
Do anyone have aqara e1 thermostats on really old radiators? Mine doesn’t have the strength to push in the pin that determines the amountnof heat
They are pretty momentary things so I believe they were moved to events
https://youtu.be/Leru0rCS8b0 at 4:49. But you solved my problem, as long as I can access them for triggers I’m happy!
Ah, yeah. That's how Zigbee2MQTT presents the device. I don't think MQTT in HA can use "device automation triggers", so it has to have more entities.
my zigbee woes with ~20 devices appear to be fixed by switching from ZHA to MQTT 👍
sucks, but that doesnt mean you wont be happy with a newer gen coordinator 😛
My Zigbee2Mqtt setup seems to not be able to pair device when its far from the coordinator. I have 71 routers and 30 end devices in my place. Spread within 3 floors.
I am using the SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus-P
Hello, I don't know if this is the right channel for this so here is my problem:
I just bought 2 of the Aquara E1 Thermostats and added them via Zigbee2MQTT Edge and they show up and the controls work just fine. If you are using the Aqara app you can set an external temperature sensor to be used by the TVR but I dont have an Aqara Hub so I can't test it. In Z2MQTT there is an option to toggle between internal/external but no way to specify which Sensor to use. Is there any way to specify the sensor somewhere else?
My Zigbee2Mqtt setup seems to not be
Anyone have any idea why my smart things power outlet UK connected to ZHA is reporting silly values for power usage
its reporting using 3100 Watts
when the maximum draw of the dehumidifier connected to it is 350 watts.
Anyone able to assist on the above?
Create an issue here: https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues
It's possible that it's off by a factor (10)
@molten linden Hey Tube, how have your inovelli blue series been working? any issues? saw your twitter post
Anyone overcome pairing issues with an ikea symphonies remote? I can pair the remote but it generates no events when listening on zha_event
There is a thread on the forums about it but no solution: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/symfonisk-sound-remote-not-showing-events/329487
@molten linden also out of curiosity, what coordinator do you use for your setup? TI or SI? z2m or zha?
they are nice. looking into something about them though. seem to be some variation with the RF on some them so trying to sort that out.
I checked the battery with a volt meter and it's super strong
I use ZHA with a SiLabs MGM12 for my Home network. Test networks with CC2652 and SiLabs MGM210
when i re-pair the only zha_event i get is "device offline" immediately after pairing
the blues are crazy flexible. have one in smart bulb mode, with an Aux switch and have so far set it so the leds mimick what they do by default when doing relay control. also found a cool blueprint script for dimming and set that up.
the one I posted on twitter about is has a ceiling fan load, really just want it as a switch, and to match the other in the box 😂 . but the fan was not happy with it in non-neutral mode. so I decided to bite the bullet and run a new neutral so spent some quality time in the crawlspace but did it with out any holes in the wall!
Trying to set up ZHA on a fresh HA Container install that will be used for travel (don't judge... I just like to tinker). I've passed my USB adapter through to the container, but ZHA says "failed to connect" when I go through config flow. Nothing is printed in the logs. I've tried both Z-Stack and EZSP adapters that are both confirmed to work. Any suggestions? I run z2m on my main instance, but I'm going for simplicity with my travel HA instance, so ZHA it is
can you talk to them outside of the container from the host? typically this would be something else locking the serial port or not being able to connect at all.
@molten linden yeah, nothing is locking the port
out of curiosity, i just spun up a z2m instance, and it's able to talk to the coordinator fine
@molten linden so when you plug in your coordinator to the local network, home assistant can see it and add it as a coordinator?
interstesting. did you have debug logging on all? to get more than failed to connect?
yeah basically. depending on mdns, you may have manually set it up with ip and port, same goes for if you use z2m.
does it matter what version of HA you're running (haos vs container etc?)
tube, you've been messing with inovelli blue signal issues?
nope
it's working now 🤣 i'll just blame Sonoff
it's cool that ZHA asks if you want to keep the current network settings on the stick. i think it used to just erase and form a new network before?
speaking of Sonoff, the tutorials I found link to Z-Stack_3.x.0 20220219 as the latest firmware but I just saw a post in Inovelli forum about something from September. No link or other info though. Is there another place for newer more updated firmwares?
hahaha nice!
are you having connectivity issues?
me, no, just some wide variations in the reported signals of the neighbors
yeah, I have that problem also
I installed 4 of 20 but I can't really get them to connect or work reliably so I'm holding off on installing more.
Actually, before it never erased the network settings and always used the existing network – Z2M always erases the network though. Now ZHA also has that option
Somebody mentioned that the blues seem to go to sleep and need a command (that fails due to sleep) to wake up, and then they work after that, and I kinda see that happening
the z2m herdsman throws an error, as if the switch goes into a mode, this code fails and results in the 1st message failing, then it wakes up and this code starts working again, ...at Object.readEletricalMeasurementMultiplierDivisors (/app/node_modules/zigbee-herdsman-converters/lib/reporting.js:26:5) at Object.configure (/app/node_modules/zigbee-herdsman-converters/devices/inovelli.js:1219:13) at Configure.configure (/app/lib/extension/configu...
hence my question about a newer version of sonoff firmware, curious if this is just an issue due to something out-of-date or if it impacts everyone
I'm still waiting to get my blues but am thinking of holding off on installing with all the issues i'm reading about
Ah interesting
i'll give it a shot. think they are coming in on wed
I'm pretty confident that this is a software issue. I'm not super worried about it. I'm just not going to replace most of the switches in my house until it's ready, otherwise my family won't be very happy with inconsistently working lights.
thats exactly what i'm worried about
I just swapped some of my non-smart-light switches. Like the light in my garage was just a regular led bulb on a regular switch. Now it's a regular bulb on an inovelli switch. It works totally fine like any other switch locally. I just can't get it to automate with my Hue outdoor motion sensor yet.
but it couldn't do that before either so nobody cares.
and now I have a cool blue light on the wall lol, and then eventually it will be motion controlled and the led will change colors and everybody will love me and call me the greatest dad ever lol (or not haha)
we're only cool to other nerds
hahaha love it. i catch myself saying hte same
woo, solved one problem with my inovelli switches (which wasn't the switches)
I switched from addon mqtt broker to a standalone mqtt broker a day or two ago. I updated z2m addon to use the new broken, but HA mqtt integration device discovery (that I didn't know was a thing) was still looking at the non-existent addon broker.
and now I can sleep (because I can turn off the lights again lol)
Does the ZHA zigbee network heal itself with time? I just stupidly moved my coordinator across the house and then migrated to a new coordinator, all within 1 day. I'm having some unresponsiveness with my devices...
Hey guys, I’m trying to update my ikea stuff using OTA. The updates are getting pushed, the devices eventually report 100% update done, but the firmware version does not change in zha
Also is there a way to migrate to zigbee2mqtt without having to repair everything and without losing the devices and settings in zha? I have close to 100 devices
Do you know of any zigbee button that just works? Battery powered? I have tried ikea ones - disconnects, tuya ones - bit better, but super poor battery life. I guess, if I go by my experience with sensors, BT is preffered.
I never have issues with ikea, do you pair them from the main hub or the closest router?
usually from the main hub
i thought it should route by itself, but anyway the visibility to the router is very good from where the buttons are anyway
I can try from the router, but from experience it will make it work a day or two and than it becomes offline
My current experience with zigbee things is that stuff that is main connected kinda works, TS011F even kidna good, but anything on battery is just pain, maybe i misunderstood same basic concept, but bt stuff, since it just pairs with the pin, does not suffer from this, at least, that is my experience
I just bought a pack of the sonoff buttons to try, but have only had them for about a week. On a plus side they are still reporting 100% battery live (2450 cell). I was advised to pick up batteries by this channel though. Paired to the near by routers (sengled power monitors).
I was advised to pick up batteries by this channel though.
What does it mean? That it goes trough batteries quickly?
that was my assumption based on the comment. At $25 USD for a three pack of buttons, I figured I would try and see how they worked.
I haven't owned it long enough to give you any feedback on battery life though
I installed my ikea buttons six months ago, never had to change the batteries yet
hey guys can anyone help me? I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why **zha goes completely unavailable everyday and only fixes when I plug and unplug the zigbee stick from my VirtualBox Docker **
What stick?
The CC253x sticks are known to crash like that
I had used nortek HUSBZB-1 which had the problem, I changed to sonoff conbee plus and it worked for a day and same thing
Im in the process of repairing all my ZigBee devices and seeing if that fixes it
I doubt it, but the logs will help identify the problem
I suspect that Windows/VirtualBox is the problem
Yeah it's given my issues in the past but other times it's been stable for weeks at a time. If this continues to happen after repairing everything I'll ask again
I heard something about disabling modem manager on the virtual box Ubuntu VM but couldn't for the life of me figure it out, tried ssh, tried typing the commands into VirtualBox and nothing
Well, it's only relevant if you're running Ubuntu in that VM, if that VM runs HAOS then it's not relevant
It should be pretty obvious if modem manager is installed, at least if you followed the instructions
I did pair again all 3 and used new batteries, so I wonder if in 2 or 3 days any will still work
Hello guys ! is it possible to control a single click, double, long press on a zigbee wall mounted switch ?
thanks for the help
Does it have those click options?
I have some of the smartthings buttons and the linkind buttons. They both work well
smartthings zigbee?
yes, and smartthings is a brand?
The smartthings buttons do single press, double press, and hold. The linkind do single and hold
The Xiaomi Aqara buttons also work well, and do a bunch of things
https://www.samsung.com/uk/smartthings/button-gp-u999sjvleea/ this thing? I have that, it is aeotec, but z-vawe
linkind button is not available in eu i think
https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/WXKG12LM.html even does shake
i have aqara vibration thing only when i tried aqara and kinda meh
like it reacts to only lot of vibrtions 🙂
but if it stays connected for 2 weeks without issue i will buy the button too
I've been using a couple of the buttons for a few years now, they work fine
They've been less trouble than my Hue "dimmer" remote
although to be honest i would prefer BT ones as my experience with xiaomi BT temp and humi sensors compared with zigbee ones is night and day
bt just works 😄
My experience is that if you buy the right stuff, Zigbee just works
Tuya is mostly a disaster
Osram ...
Sonoff ... their wired stuff is fine, battery powered not so much
🤔
weird!
tuya is 😦
maybe, but very hard to find out in advance, as ie. ikea everyone will tell that it works, but reality
i mean what is few more hundred to try the aqara button for myself now that I have so much tuya stuff that is in reality unusable.
well unusable for me, asi i guess i'm very demanding person
Then... research first, buy second
yeal i do not know any reliable source, ie. the https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/supported-devices/ or https://zigbee.blakadder.com/ does not mention issues with tuya battery powered switches
or if you scroll up, with ikea buttons here, but in reality, at least for me, ikea buttons just stops working, weird
so sometimes i thing i'm doing something wrong
Then it's probably a problem with your routers
but how do i find that out, it is not possible to say to the device that it should not be router
Well, you could do worse than provide this channel with a list of your routers
and also i can tell zigbee device what routers to connect to
how can i get the list from ZHA?
No idea... don't use it
Ah, more Tuya
sadly
but those one work for all the normal stuff
very rare for tuya, well it is not without a bug, at least with default settings they do work
well honestly i don't think tuya stuff is much worse than others, at least from my experience, only REALLY stuff reliable so far that i used are things flashed to ESPHOME or BTHOME, unless there is hw failure, they just work - it is not zigbee stuff trough and sadly i have lot of zigbee tuya stuff as i thought i will go with tuya and switch to HA afterwards :/
Tuya is worse, just ask people here 😉
Particularly the ZHA devs, who have to battle the insanity
so the conclusion is when using tuya devices at all (since i can't chose what is router) nothing on zigbee network will work?
Well, the problem is that Tuya is a provider of firmware and cloud services
Other people make the hardware and then use that
The result is that it's really only intended to work with their ecosystem, and so a lot of it is ... made to the minimum possible "standard"
Every time you buy you roll the dice
omg i was living in a lie and spreading the lie event, it is actually zigbee
Yeah, I don't think Samsung or Aeotec have ever made a zwave version of that button
thanks, i will see how it works, first issue i see is the classic delay when it is waiting if i will be double clicking to determine single click, tolerable 🙂
It's pretty quick IMO
at least better then tuya one i was trying that does internally keep on/off state, so every press i need to reset it's state to off so it is not confused 😄
Ew
I guess maybe it makes sense to remove of devices that are close to the coordinator and are not tuya to different coordinator and use zigbee2mqtt for them to see if maybe it will behave better without tuya routers
Morning. Im trying to migrate zigbee and restore a backup, but it tells me failed with an unknown error
what's the best way to get a more verbose output?
oh nevermind. 3rd try worked.
All osram products? Does this include sylvania?
Newer "LEDVANCE" products (controllers that come with a QR-code for Zigbee 3.0 pairing on it) are mostly fine
Everything that reports as OSRAM and is using the LightLink profile is total garbage
but I'll gladly sell you my 3 OSRAM plugs lol
However, they somewhat broke light transitions in a firmware upgrade.
Some attributes return as unsupported when you read them but you can still write to them (transition stuff)
And they basically report their LQI to everything connected as like 254/255, so some buttons/end-devices always use them as a parent (even if it's really far away)
so it's probably best to stay away from OSRAM/LEDVANCE if possible
i just started playing with an aqara door/window sensor and trying to get it bound to a hue bulb with z2m. https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/guide/usage/binding.html#commands here i see i should be using a specific cluster and i'm a bit confused on what i should do
for clusters i can choose between 65535, genbasic, and groups
It's not possible. The door sensor doesn't send on/off commands
i found a github issue mentioning that but then i wondered if genbasic would still work
so it's not possible to bind them in any way?
Nothing on the Basic cluster controls anything on a bulb. So no, not possible
when searching i stumbled on a reddit post where people using their hub were binding to homekit
bummer
That's not Zigbee binding then
so binding isnt all its cracked up to be
so for future info- i need clusters on both devices to match up with whatever i want to bind?
for example, genonoff?
Binding can work really well. For example, Hue and IKEA motion sensors send a "timed on" command on the OnOff cluster. If bound to a light, it'll turn on the light for a few minutes. You can't change any delays though. If you want to do that, you'll need to use Home Assistant for that (or other "hubs")
also this isnt specific to zha or z2m or anything right? it's just a limitation of the device not being made to whatever spec it should or could be?
No door sensor will ever bind to a light and do something useful (by spec).
yea i have multiple hue motion sensors but havent tried doing any binding yet
probably a good time to visit that
Yeah, they support binding (although I don't use it for various reasons). But motion sensors also don't have to support this
So what would you bind door and window sensors to?
Nothing
I am using Ikea Signal repeaters as, well, repeaters. One of them keeps falling out of the network in /conbee2. Once I re-plug it everything works fine. The repeater very close to the Conbee stick, about 4 meters. How can I fix this ?
Is your Conbee on a USB 2.0 extension cable?
Yes, about 50 cm long
Anyone know where I can buy a "Frient Electricity Meter Interface" here in EU ?
Does anyone solution or answer... Im using Home assistant + sonoff zigbee 3.0
Im tryin to connect IKEA on/off trådfri switch (well i succesfully paired it) to home assistant, but when pressing buttons, nothing happens
with zha or z2m
and im using ZHA
unrelated side question, what's the best strategy for migrating Hue bulbs paired with the Hue bridge over to a new zigbee coordinator. I'm moving everything onto a new sonoff controller and Zigbee2MQTT
one at a time. delete from hue hub and the bulbs go into pairing mode and you can start join with z2m and they pair
you have to factory reset motion sensors and dimmer remotes
k
can you remind me on how to trigger a hue bulb into pairing mode?
once it's been deleted
awesome thank you for that
With one of the two Hue Dimmer switches it is possible to put the bulbs into a factory reset.
Power-supply the bulb
Bring the dimmer switch next to the bulb, as close as possible
Hold the I/On and 0/Off button pressed simultaneously for 10 to 12 seconds until…
The bulb flashes a couple of times. Don't release the buttons until the last flash + a safety second
Switch the bulb off and on again: it can now be paired again.```
but that is the hard way. easy way is delete a bulb from hub and it starts wanting to pair and add to z2m by turning on "permit join all" at the top
thats really helpful. i've got a few ledvance/osram recessed lights and had no idea
if they work for you, that's great and there's probably no reason to replace them then
Listen for zha_event in the Developer Tools or look in the Logbook to see if any entries pop up. If so, you can use device automation triggers to easily create automations
why would you have to manually do that?
@grim igloo is there a firmware I should flash to my recently delivered sonoff usb P?
yea
i think i followed this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBAGWBWBATg
actually no i did the python way
@violet dagger yes it does , it is tuya model
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eYnURcDrWw <- used that to update sonoff p with python
the amazon listing states "Pre-flashed with Z-Stack 3.x.0 coordinator firmware"
but I suppose it can't hurt to flash it myself
right
It comes as a device and i made few automations as well, but when im pushing on or off button, nothing happens :/
connected via zigbee coordinator
Yeah, what stick are you using as a coordinator?
Sonoff zigbee 3.0 plus
Ok. Did you try to re-pair the switch again? It's possible that it just failed pairing
The IKEA switches have been a bit finicky in my experience
Just click on "Add Devices" in ZHA and press the button in the switch four times quickly to re-pair it.
I have, few times, tried another model aswell. basic on/off and switch that have buttons to left n right too, same result
How many other devices are on your network? Any routers (e.g. bulbs)?
10 devices
Any routers? How close to the coordinator are you joining this button?
0 routers, there is like 1m between switch and zigbee dongle
So just to confirm, the devices are all sensors/switches/battery-powered?
well, 2 bulbs, 4 sockets, 2 door/window sensors, and now 2 switches
That's probably why. There's a firmware bug with your Sonoff stick that will prevent IKEA end-devices like this from properly joining the network if they decide to join through the coordinator itself.
interesting
only ikea branded non-routers with p series dongle?
Move the device to where it will actually end up sitting (since Zigbee devices don't really like being moved around) and join it specifically through the closest router
Sonoff mostly, just these 2 switches.. and these are not mine, just testing purpose 😄
do you know if it's a ZB Dongle-E or a ZB Dongle-P?
sorry i was asking puddly for specifics on what all is effected by this firmware bug
Anything running Z-Stack and probably other non-IKEA devices as well (https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy-znp/issues/189).
ah quite a bit bigger scope then
no idea
he's asking puddly lol nvm i misread
Click Configure on the ZHA integration card. What does Radio type: show?
znp
Ah, yep. That's the P stick running Z-Stack then
P for ZNP/CC2652P 😆
P for puddly4president
Why didn't they use Z or something...
Anyways, pick a device that isn't running off of batteries, click the three dot menu next to the Reconfigure button, and select "Add devices via this device". Reset your remote and re-join it to the network via that specific parent, it should immediately join.
Or move the remote to where it will actually sit (and not a few inches from the coordinator) and click the "Add Device" button. That should also work, assuming it's closer to some other router.
is there a way to force a z2m repeater to do the same thing (forcing it to be the first hop of whatever device you want to join next)
Last I checked the "permit joins" button is a dropdown that you can select individual parents through, on the right
They can also move around the network (and pick another parent) after they've joined
from hardware channel, tqo questions. One, how can i determine (with logs) how oftern my zigbee power monitors are polled or reporting (not sure which way data is coming into HA). I can see the "last changed/updated" data, but i want to know how it works, and google is failing me). And two, anyway to calibrate zigbee power monitors?
i thought end devices specifically aqara wont do that
Yeah, well somewhat. I've seen first-gen Aqara sensors move around but it seems like they mostly don't do it(?)
It wastes a ton of battery to scan for a new parent so devices try not to do it unless their parent is completely offline or they're having periodic issues contacting it
sounds logical
Though the logic is in no way standardized so it's whatever the device firmware decides to do
Although my old Aqara sensors seemingly never decided to switch parents when their original one went offline 😆
They're really inconsistent. I think my motion sensors with the fast polling hardware mod do, but the temp sensors do not. I think the door sensor also does not?
what do due motion sensors like to do?
Ah, that's likely the case. Had issues with the original door + temp sensors (but don't remember having them with the motion sensors)
Hey guys does anyone know why this is happening? https://prnt.sc/RsZAe-sJ5pUi
It's been constantly happening every few hours, even after repairing all zha devices
What exact hardware configuration are you using?
Sonoff zigbee 3.0 , VirtualBox VM with dedicated 4 cores
Which host OS?
Wait you have nested VMs?
No lol , I have a windows machine running VirtualBox, I don't know if it matters but during the virtual box config I chose Ubuntu 64
And then installed Haos
Can you post the entire error message for Couldn't get MulticastTableEntry? Or enable https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zha/#debug-logging and PM me the entire log.
Legend thank you
How do you reset the signal ? I am using a Tuya switch and every time I press a button it turns on the light 😏
Does anyone else have a issue with conbee II currently? My says "Failed to set up" from time to time and works if i do a couple of reloads
Failed to deliver packet: <TXStatus.MAC_CHANNEL_ACCESS_FAILURE: 225>
RF interference
do you have an extension cable
are you plugged into a usb 3 port
is the conbee near an SSD
is your wifi occupying the same frequencies as zigbee
Its sticking out from my NUC, i have no idea if have a usb 2.0 on the nuc
aint gonna work w/ a conbee
the manual even states that it needs to be on an extension cable
RF interference nukes the conbees badly
ohh! so that can be one of my biggest issue !
I actually had no idea about the extension cable!
Need to dig one up, thanks!
That easy! It connected instantly 🙂 thanks 🙏
anyone have a recommendation on colored downlights that are not hue? did some searching and hue obviously comes up a lot, I also saw zemismart, but wondering if anyone else has suggestions
do they have to be zigbee?
looking for 4 inch and 2 inch lights. 4 inch seems to be easy to find, just need to figure out who to order from
2 inch are hard to find
ah not bulbs
you're talking about cans right?
yeah
like the mini gu10 cans
although I think my existing lights are canless
https://www.athom.tech/blank-1/wled-gu10-rgbcw i bought two of these to play with (way better than $40+ for zigbee rgbw-cct)
put them in a bathroom.. very happy with them
idk if i'd buy 10 like you said due to overloading APs
but honestly they arent chatting all the time
sure
they can run tasmota or w/e too
ok I'll think about these, thanks for the link
yea
frenck broke cct support with the wled integration back in february so you gotta use a workaround if you want wled on them
not the end of the world tho
context?
initially a disagreement over implementation, then frenck needed time to update integration, then limbo (we're here now)
last response i got: #add-ons-archived message
i know hue is expensive but I just switched over to them
when i followed up he said code testing not actual user testing
the accuracy and the lumens etc are unmatched
that is outrageous
i felt that way too
like actual CRI?
i've heard by a few folks they arent actually that good as far as cri goes. i dont know enough to argue either way
@scarlet gust current workaround: https://kno.wled.ge/advanced/home-automation/#home-assistant
that's a clever URL
yep
I am tempted on the hues but don't want to spend the $$. Let's see what black friday brings
glances nervously at my 60 Tasmota devices
https://www.athom.tech/blank-1/copy-of-wled-gu10-rgbcw 1000 on these bad boys
i havent tried those but i've heard their 15w is pretty good but i've also heard the bulb itself is BIG
Anecdotally, I filled my house up with ~$15 dimmable IKEA bulbs. Random bulbs start flickering about once a month and then completely burn out the next month. I think I've already replaced half of them in two years.
damn
I hear ya
I never wanted to do it
i've seen lots of suggestions for ikea instead of hue.. good to know they suck
i will say that i will never suggest hue ambiance candellabra
lol
I mean everything I've read about them is basically "trust me it's worth it"
They're fine as long as you don't keep them in a recessed enclosure or in a place where they can get hot
I just moved in this summer so I am not there yet, got other things to spend money on
so their recessed lights are no bueno?
what about the $50 inovelli blue switches
😄
gonna cut the kid's college fund for those?
i have all zwave switches and zigbee bulbs cuz i hate myself i guess
no complaints just no way to to binding/direct association
if hass dies nothing works since smart bulb mode with smart switches
I try to stick with zwave when I can, but for bulbs zigbee is hard to beat (of course there's wifi, but network congestion)
hmm you bring up a good point
these are only $30 https://inovelli.com/products/red-series-rgbw-smart-bulb
yea
good to know though thanks
yea it's not ideal
i'd have to turn off smart bulb mode via multi taps
which i have turned off on the switches because i wanted triple tap up/down to work lol
fyi on lifecycle, all of my hue bulbs (RGB, warm/cold, fixed white) are 3 years old without flickering or other issues
yea i think my hue are around that old mostly
and the motion sensors with crazy battery life and just working is pretty nice
I'm getting things set up in Zigbee2MQTT and none of my IKEA Tradfri battery devices are reporting their battery levels in Home Assistant
I know they can because DeConz would report it
is this a bug, a configuration issue, or a known thing
(If anyone knows I mean)
yea, my hue motion sensors i just replaced the 2xAA for the first time in 3 years
my hue motion sensors report their battery and i see it in HA
the product support page for the IKEA switch says it exposes battery. hm.
are they just hidden and disabled by default by chance?
not on the HA side, no
gledopto has downlights, I have one in a box and haven't tested it yet. the zemismart are tuya so careful there. Halo made one it's pretty old now but worked in my testing.
they just report "unknown"
in the same boat right now. inovelli blues on the way
I've had a bad experience with grouping these. one switch and the lights will sometimes turn 2/3 bulbs off. super frustrating
direct associations
they don't really work
sounds like it was an issue with the original manufacturer that they refused to fix the firmware
also had to return 2 of them within the first month. i've got a total of 9 and essentially stopped using them
definitely, especially for the price tag
i went full retard with hue before i got any zwave stuff
so i have all my bulbs covered already
i've started to get more and more hue
just no good way to get stuff to work when hass is down
tbh zwave is probably not a good option for a lot of things but i do like my zooz switches
honestly though my zigbee network is still less than ideal. it's still not even close to being as stable as my z wave network
i still can't pinpoint why my network isn't as stable. routers keep falling off the network all the time. have done all the usual stuff with wifi/zigbee channel separation, etc
Tasmota devices can communicate directly with each other over UDP
i mean zigbee bulbs and zwave switches
Ah gotcha
with zha or z2m?
Binding (or association in the case of zwave) for some stuff though
z2m right now, but i've tried both
ya but im using zigbee bulbs and zwave light switches exclusively lol
no inter chat
well when i looked at zigbee switch options i didnt like them
the inovelli blue i guess are what i'd consider good ones but pricey and not really available plus still working out kinks
@unborn orbit dude get help in this channel im sure your problem is solvable
have you done an environmental scan?
or looked at logs and see what is fucky wucky
honestly i've tried just about everything. the only thing i haven't tried is two separate networks
also love all my Hue bulbs but here (Germany) they're often on sale. A couple of months ago, I got three E27 "1100 lm" color bulbs + Hue Bridge (which I could theoretically sell) for 79€ (now $79 heh). That's like 26€/bulb ($26/bulb) plus a free Hue Bridge.
Oh, and the chandelier/E14 lights (have multiple different gens) are also fine for me
this seems necessary for busy zwave meshes not zigbee
starting to think it's number of devices. it's a large network with around 150 devices
150 devices is fine
130 are routers
okay, that's a lot of routers but should still be fine. What coordinator are you running?
What routers are you running? (OSRAM, IKEA, Hue, ...?)
cool
osram, hue, ecolink, eaton, ledvance, sonoff
previously added a bunch of dedicated sonoff routers and tube routers but that ended up oddly making things worse and they would just constantly drop off the network
recently updated tube to dev firmware as well
removed a few more devices and things have gotten more stable
oddly enough now every 3 days or so i have to restart the poe tube device
thinking thats an issue with the firmware
With dev firmware you're talking about dev Z-Stack (and not the ESPHome stuff)?
I've had issues with the dev Z-Stack firmware and reverted back to 20220507 Z-Stack dev firmware.
There's also a "small" thread about it here: https://github.com/Koenkk/Z-Stack-firmware/issues/383
Basically, the coordinator randomly freezes. I think Tubes ethernet stuff should automatically "restart" though
New "dev" firmware should release soon-ish though
SimpleLink SDK 6.30 is out (6.20 was horrible for me)
as it stands now, i'm down to 96 routers (mostly light bulbs) with 14 end devices
So the OSRAM bulbs. Not familiar enough with Z2M, but does it have a way of knowing whether it has a ZLL profile or a ZHA profile?
Like, old OSRAM firmware (mostly running on the CC2531) is almost unusable.
honestly have no idea how i'd find that out
Hmm, can you check the zcl_version attribute on the genBasic cluster? (2 or higher means Zigbee 3.0 and for OSRAM should mean the firmware is "okay". 1 for OSRAM could be bad)
Also, is it always the same devices dropping out (or the same brand)?
unreportable_attribute
yeah, there might be another place to read it
or is there like some "debug string" (called "signature" in ZHA) that can be generated for a bulb?
it's also one of the devices i had to make the js for
there are five of those on my network
What's the manufacturer name (OSRAM?) + Zigbee model ID?
Can you try to read zclversion or zclVersion on the Basic cluster?
~~ Thought Z2M has a drop-down but it apparently doesn't~~
it's under reporting on the device
but it keeps coming back with unreportable attribute
that just for the zcl version on the Basic cluster
(and also model id + manufacturer)
and maybe also datecode
Hello ! Do we have a sticky/pinned thread somewhere that lists good zigbee switches ?
okay the OSRAM lights might be your issue then lol. Also check model + manufacturer + date code + app version please
i've got 3 types let me check them all
what does this mean?
what exactly?
actually, this isn't going to be that helpful but i'm pretty sure i defined all of these in my custon .js
what do you mean the osram lights me be his issue
oh osram is a brand and the lights might be blackholing routes?
at least these 5 bulbs
I'm looking to smartify about 50+ switches, mix of 1-way, 3-way, dimmers, and normal switches. Still trying to decide between zigbee or ZWave.. Looking for recommendations and guidance.
yes. The older firmware versions are terrible
i was thinking ok.. nvram.. osram..
can you get me those other attributes?
I don't think we have one here. Smart switches depend a lot on region (US/Europe/...). Maybe look up some written reviews (or videos) on smart switches (Zigbee and Z-Wave) and then decide what you want to try first heh
Read result of 'genBasic': {"modelId":"LIGHTIFY Under Cabinet TW","manufacturerName":"OSRAM","dateCode":"20150601N****","appVersion":1}
Ah, yeah. LIGHTIFY is the oldest stuff possible and the firmware seems to be from 2015
it was the only under the cabinet light that was zigbee i could find :/
They have silently updated stuff to use Zigbee 3.0 now (although that firmware still isn't the best but at least doesn't have any major routing issues AFAIK).
Read result of 'genBasic': {"zclVersion":2,"appVersion":1,"manufacturerName":"LEDVANCE","modelId":"RT RGBW","dateCode":"Jan 7 2019\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000\u0000"
If you have a second Zigbee stick or a Hue Bridge or whatever, could you try putting the OSRAM Lightify devices on that and see if your main Zigbee network stabilizes?
these are the other sylvania
Make your own
Ah, that's better. It's a Zigbee 3.0 light and AFAIk doesn't have any routing issues
You can buy a controller and attach to led strips
OSRAM = LEDVANCE = Sylvania (basically)
yeah may end up having to do that with led strips. it was the easiest solution though to replace builder stuff
I personally like wled with Wi-Fi for my strips
problem is have to do it for each under cabinet which is a pain. there are 5 total
yeah i love wled
Those 5 cabinet lights are the only ones which are LIGHTIFY, right?
right
I'd put them on another Zigbee network for now then (or at least remove them from your main network).
In the future, you might be able to fit a custom controller (WLED/Zigbee) on those perhaps?
yeah may just have to replace them if they really are the issue at hand
thats awesome! how hard was it to run all the power for them?
Maybe also check that all other OSRAM/LEDVANCE/Sylvania lights have a zcl version that's 2 or higher
It sucks
I gotta redo them with sk6812 instead of ws2812b strips for better white
The right side cabinet I have on its own esp syncing to the other
Everything else is on one controller with 4 outputs
that should be all of them
Eaton looked liked this Read result of 'genBasic': {"zclVersion":2,"appVersion":1,"manufacturerName":"Eaton","modelId":"Halo_RL5601","dateCode":"20170417-206"}
so that should be okay too right?
well, idk. Generally, "zcl_version=1" just means they're Zigbee 1.2 or whatever (but not Zigbee 3.0).
The OSRAM Zigbee 1.2 stuff is known to be bad
It doesn't mean that all stuff with zcl_version=1 is bad though
But generally, higher is better lol
@unborn orbit check my github for newer esphome fw. it's in beta folders under each model right now, but it's been solid, and finally runs on current esphome releases.
this is why i'll always go with Tube products 🙂
not sure if it will help with anything but 🤷🏼♂️ as older fw was pretty solid but on older esphome releases (for a reason).
honestly do wonder if its just the dev zstack firmware more than anything else. figure it's the risk i take with trying bleeding edge
you all should look on the bottom of the PCB's 😂 might find a clue as to my name.
this thread has 131 comments for a reason: https://github.com/Koenkk/Z-Stack-firmware/issues/383 lol
(but mostly ZHA related issues and not Z2M heh)
nothing on the current poe pcb though. 🤔
@mellow geode I really appreciate all your help
Wish i had known about those lights. they were a pain to install
I take half credit for telling you to ask for help here
Haha
any tips on running those led lights?
Show pics
retrofitting the OSRAM ones with new controllers? no idea how the controller interfaces with the light. I guess it's RGBW but pics would help (need to upload them to an external site)
https://youtu.be/7aZiiCUSNBo look at these haha
i don't think i'll retrofit. probably rip them out and replace with led strips
If they have a good diffuser and aluminum to put strips on for heat dissipation that’s good
For strips I have lots of advice to give but it depends on layout and other stuff
think i have some lying around actually
think i have ws2811 led strips around
I mean if you could use the old hardware to put in
You want sk6812 for rgbw with dedicated white channel most likely
are they 12v?
For aluminum channels deep ones help diffuse led circles better
Nope lol
But rgb to get white looks off
It’s too big of a project to not buy the leds that work best
well these will be super short runs so probably don't need to inject
hmm looks like you have to choose the kelvin on the white channel though?
Yea most do warm white
Wled will do cool white with rgb which isn’t as bad compared to warm with rgb
For a controller personally I’d use a dig quad or esp32 with your own board
are you using nodemcu for wled?
Fused and ready to go
But a zigbee controller is an option
I’ve seen people suggest gledopto here but no idea on what they can do
Other stuff to look out for is how you position the leds to minimize hot spots against the wall/tile
I have a few GLEDOPTO Pro devices. They're mostly fine. You get firmware upgrades via email (lol).
Make sure to only buy the "Pro" devices though.
hmm i've got to go from 120v from wall to led. the romex comes directly from the wall and currently these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M593J17/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 are housing that wire
what could i use instead i guess that would be us code compliant
