that offends my American eyes 🙂
For the life of me I can’t replicate it on my keyboard
Sorry lol
I found ó and ø but never together
Google image search doesn't know what to make of that
In digital typography, combining characters are characters that are intended to modify other characters. The most common combining characters in the Latin script are the combining diacritical marks (including combining accents).
Unicode also contains many precomposed characters, so that in many cases it is possible to use both combining diacrit...
ǿ
Thank you so much!!!!!!
Any tried by yourselves soft for finding and deleting of photo duplicates pls?
I can smell that
I wonder what covid have done to shower habits of people lol
saving the world
Nah, good anti persperant actually works
And I don't do as much heavy work anymore
Just got to keep naughty bits clean and fresh and I'm good
true
I actually was working on installing stuff in a container today
Shipping container. Thick, hard metal sucks
Glad we are all virtual. A couple stinky people in here 🤣
And my hygiene habits are ….. most would say ….. below average
luckily i shower daily..
Yeah I also either shower at night before bed or in the morning before work. Can't have the office ladies think I smell
Woke up this morning to find I am mentioned in the changelogs to something for a minor suggestion I had
Just use a shitton of cologne to cover the smell. Ladies love that
and by cologne I mean Axe
I think Axe is your country's equivalent of Lynx, so you nailed that one
I think Lynx is your country's equivalent of what everyone else calls Axe 😉
We call it ekelhaf
Suddenly not sure if serious
Also I know Lynx must at least also exist in UK because it wqas in Big Shaq's Mans not hot
the what now
Two plus two is four
agreed
So nice not being smelly at all (normally)
Antiperspirant and a couple sprays perfume
Time to shower now
I'll do smellovision with you
😍
This is a bit more than smellovision
Is there a hacs channel in here ? Want to post my question in the right spot...
They have their own discord
Home Assistant Community Store is the successor to the old Custom Updater, and can do so much more - you should check it out. They even have a Discord server for issues with HACS itself.
a stacked mudhut is still a mudhut
@forest edge didn’t realise you had a cafe in australia. Thought you would’ve been afraid of the wildlife
Or the outdoors
that's what my cat thought about this thread 🙂
They don’t have Sonoma in Melbourne?
my cat managed to post a random tenor GIF, so I deleted it and left the cryptic comment
it's a name of prestige and respect. not surprising companies copy off me
@clear ferry why do people use RedHat
cos it has enterprise support
So I got given an old Clipsal C-Touch Colour screen that looks like it runs Windows XP Embedded... I wonder if I can change its OS and function to something useful to a modern smarthome
Or just see if its touchscreen ribbon connects to a pi :p
ribbon connected to something proprietary most likely lol
It's CBUS so literally anything goes
but honestly if I break it, I will be doing the world a favour. A network connected device running XP embedded is about as safe and secure as living in the caldera of a volcano\
just need a usb port
This little thang?
It would actually be cool. It’s got external monitor, serial/com port, ps/2 mouse or keyboard port, IR receiver, audio 3.5mm line in, the colour touchscreen, and about 3 RJ45s, although two are designated for cbus so who knows how they pin out
But is it the same amount of cool?
no probably not
Sounds on par with many ATMs
I would make a HA connected ATM given the chance too
I think it only has a 256mb sandisk flashcard atm and both of those may be a bit much
it's probably going to be more like strip it and use it for a wall mount Pi case
I’m actually pretty confident that screen ribbon is not proprietary and/or this board is based on something existing
dunno, tons of screen controller boards out there
I wouldn't waste my time with that tho, i'd slap something basic and just use it as a dashboard for HA or something
Because it is one of two good Linux options with enterprise support, albeit the worst of the two
Hey everyone, my ordroid is arriving today, super excited to start using home assistant! I'll be needing this discord server a lot I'm afraid 😂
Welcome onboard! Enjoy spending hours of your life tinkering and looking up new devices
Where’s the deploy direct to prod 😂

This one?
that gif cuts out a mere second before that cat loses it
Interesting, a zigbee IR blaster
https://aliexpress.com/item/1005003772831987.html
Does ZHA even support this class of devices
oh I thought that channel is for support only
i mean, my original intention was to just share a cool thing and maybe discuss it, but fair enough
you broke another one!
careful, i called a millennial a millennial once and got smacked down. you throwing the N word might cause some thunder
Too late, somebody got themselves a timeout
again
It will ****
don't post on discord before your morning coffee
i blame atx really, he brings forth the hate
or anywhere for that matter
Did someone say HAOS?
Yes. It’s good

just... 🤣
Of after your sixth alcoholic beverage, which I guess is also before your morning coffee.
I have spent entirely too much money on amazon in the past 8 months
I have enough complicated stuff to bother with docker containers and add on containers. Lazy is great way of living
Disgusting
Let’s take away your credit card
well most of it isn't exactly money out of pocket but yea no shit
I give them atx's cc
they decline and say they don't take mud tokens
I’m young enough to have no real clue what the heck that is
You probably haven't even seen dialup before
No wait
You live in Australia
On fire today huh 🤣
Funnily enough I saw it in Singapore not australia
isn't dial up what other countries call "fiber"
I hear starlink is actually pretty good
Australia we’ve had Cable internet since the late 90s
So faster than dialup
you might need to invest when norway caves in on itself and your all floating out to the alantic
We got cable modems in 97, it's long since dead, but I hear docsis 4 is now rolling out over the pond, now you can get 1600/4Mbit
we don't actually need to torrent for anything worth having tho atx.. like tv shows, movies.. software
i torrent all my linux distros
Think docsis 4 can actually get a few hundred up to 1000 down. Which is good (not as good as fibre, but still good)
hmm it's up 10gbs
In a lab
and?
Docsis 3 could do quite fast. But in the real world no
I’m talking real world
even if it's half it's still decent
was it like 10 down and 6 up or something
consumers don't need that much lol
we hit more than that now
Exactly
but then again that is plenty
That’s my point. Upload is always terrible
Docsis is great for milking the consumers without upgrading the technology
i am positive they can do more, they just don't
Still a good stop gap until they roll out something else
Not really
50 maybe 100 if download is cut
But no
It's a horrible technology
Cable is a single copper core. It’s impressive we get the speeds we do on singular cable
point is doc 4 is still gonna be faster then what you stated above lol
Okay? And fibre is a better investment overall
People could get 2 gig symmetrical
they are not going to rewire an entire infrastructure to fiber if they can milk coax for longer
It is decent enough for most consumers though
You have to admit that
People need download not upload
truth is current speeds are fine for what we need
It has way to many pitfalls and variables to be decent enough
if your doing buisness you get a buisness line which can do what you need
In australia the HFC network was a good stop gap to save money at first. It was FTTN which was crap
Well is crap
Because the copper was never maintained so it’s shit from the node to you
it comes with a fairly high latency cost too, speed alone isn't all

0ms gang represent 🙌
I’m from australia, sub 10ms to the rest of the world doesn’t exist 😂
Lmao
You do have the advantage of size there. Being able to focus so much
if we're talking gaming latency I sit around 20's
Lol 20
100-300 for me for us/ uk servers
I can connect to china with 50
well local is way lower
but cross country is around 20's
only when i go outside of the states does it rise
Most servers were across the country
I have around 4ms to my father's house, 2500km away
Don't think I've ever had above 5 internally in Norway the last decade
anything below 100 is barley noticable regardless
Ping to Sydney is 8ms. Not bad when on wifi and streaming video (fibre from modem)
My 300/300 connection on wireless
It would be a waste of money
Then my ping to Perth
@forest edge no point in paying for more than you need. You said that before about how docsis is perfectly fine for people
Give me the IP to that Perth server @umbral cliff
No clue. It’s just the AARnet Perth server
what are you paying for what you got?
I pay for 100/20. I get 110/25 on Ethernet
So I get more
and that is.. how much
Oh you mean price?
$99/ month. Because australia there lol
Split between 3 not too bad
$99 au bucks or us?
Do you have to rent part of the intercontinental lines with that price? 😄
Dollarydoos
So four times the speed of light? mmhm
no wait milliseconds, not micro
Nah just stupid government who thought we should be making money on the nbn not writing it off as an investment
Yes
Not bad
someone check my maffs, is it 8ms for 2500km
so you pay around $138(us) for 100/20 and I pay about $60 for 350/30(us) so... at some point a consumer should atleast pay fair price for the speeds they get even if those speeds are enough for thier needs lol
we'd have much better pings to US if we could get cables from lapland to canada instead of going all the way south
2500/4 is 625
So… twice the speed of sound?
8 mins 12 seconds from the sun, iirc
So 4 times then
Sun is about as far away as Perth
Yeah it’s fair price for australia. But not much can be done. Not until australia decides our internet infrastructure should be an investment for the country not something that needs a return on investment and to make profit
Wow you’re closer. Big surprise

closer? he lives on the alantic cable lol
Let me check aarnet
Which goes via Asia
You lot go straight to australia
He goes either via the USA (thus you’re closer to Perth) or he goes via Asia (which is slower)
his distance to the node is much closer
To Perth? No…?
no
You said eat it here, with a screenshot to Perth
What did you mean
I found it easily
You just need to look up town names
@clear ferry what’s the best Oslo server

i got 30 ms to oslo
203 to perth
The only ping competition I’ll win is if it’s within australia
the take away I see here with all the images is atx's connection outside of norway is not much better than coax lol
higher upload speed but not by a whole lot
To be honest though. Whatever internet hardware is used, as long as it does everything you want reliably then it doesn’t matter
My grandma could live on adsl and wait for buffering streams
This would be nice
in gaming eye whatever allows you to play on other country servers without shit ping is end goal
Lol playing across continents
Damn hackers
thankfully they connect here, not the other way around

A lot of the servers I play on are based in Europe (though I also game mostly with European friends) which makes things… fun
I used to play a game that had this one russian guy from Vladivostok playing on European servers. Apparently he got a better ping there than the Chinese servers
plus au dosen't have much of shit lol
We have some servers. But a close enough connection that Asia is good enough
Icelandic servers would be fine for both Americans and Europeans for most games if there was better cables. Right now the speed of light just screws us
thankfully most everything is US based for us so we don't have to deal with any of that
Well it would be more fun to have Americans around
east coast players do play on euro servers
alot
but pacific coast players do not lol
Sure but any competitive game and it sucks for both if you play across the pond
dpends on the game, i play a game called rust on euro server from time to time and have no issues
UK gets sub 100ms, but I'm somewhere around 150ms already
shit like call of duty would suck tho for me
Just play hearts
too bad the original doom didn't have a huge online multiplayer thing.. atx might actually be bitching about his interwebs
lol
yup, while everyone else went off to play more modren shit, you just stuck with the original doom all by your lonesome
sit at home bragging about your coax speeds with original doom lol
but it your fault your network speed now is similar to our "modern stuff"

your download speed is pretty close to mine and your upload speed is pointless lol
So having 1000/1000 available since 2015 is similar to your 330/15 mbit is the same?
i mean. google fibre is 1000/1000
just because I don't have it dosen't mean the speeds aren't available
I kind of wish I did just to see what my speed test would be to au and oslo etc lol
have gf has been avail since 2010
So, my current 370/330 on a 300/300 is the same as your 330/15 then, is that what you are saying?
is a load of crap is what i am saying

Save your sanity
windows best
Watch it, or I'll bring up beos
you were still on dial-up with the rest of us in 97
the wiki for norway is not kind
wtf xfinity is offering 2Gb/s already

verizon.. they always been ahead of the curve
From what I’ve heard they’re a shitty company
That's capitalism
but they keep getting shot down
Very safe activity
weird I have a friend in jersy on comcast he never said anything about that
maybe thats only in some areas
he would know lol and he would bitch
oh wow didn't know we had a consumer provider who actually offers 10g
usually that shit is for buisness class only
Think the Swedes have had 10g available for consumers since 2013 or something
we probably wouldn't even have some of this shit avail if it weren't for those people in maine who created thier own fibre network just for thier small town lol
wtf you norwats were paying over 80 bucks for adsl?
I feel like the norway wiki is missing some vital information lol
that or you guys really did go from shoe string to fibre in just a few years
although if adsl was 80, the holy shit 1000/1000 fiber must have costs more than your house
We got 10/10 fiber in 2004 for $40 a month
The docsis stuff in 1997 was 768/96 or something
ADSL was 1mbit in 2000
1000/1000 is currently $150 a month if I remember
No caps and ad injection though

your internet history is weird
not sure where the rankings come in but your wiki has you guys as complete shit
Sweden was ahead of us in the early 2000s. Not sure about Norway
I honestly don't remember 2000, pretty sure we were broadband by then but I myself may have still been on dial up
I don not remember
we had ISDN I think in 2000
my girls dad had ISDN but pretty sure that was in the 90's
We had ISDN from 95
comcast is the 4th largest isp in the world lol
crazy adsl is still a wide spread thing
thankfully faster than 256kbps these days 😛
haha, found a web page comparing prices from 1999 https://www.netlab.tkk.fi/opetus/s38118/s99/htyo/23/hinnat.shtml
The computer network laboratory is now part of the Department of Telecommunications and Computer Network Technology. The information on this page may be out of date.
orly
that page was made back in the 90's
I see what the rankings on wiki is for
percentage of pop to having internet access
"single's day" 1999
Norway was actually the first country to be connected to ARPANET outside of the us
first non english speaking country according to the wiki
I converted the ISDN price to today's value and was like that can't be right, 17€... But those were paid by the minute weren't they
dosen't it make you feel all warm inside that the US is the reason the world has internet?
1999 ADSL would have cost 161-217€/mo, yikes
Well, if they didn't make ARPANET someone else would
what is paid by the minute? internet usage via adsl?
via ISDN
weird
if they hadnt assasinated Tesla we might have had that a a few other things much earlier!
we didn't get charged by the minute
We had a lot of fixed price dial up stuff in the 90s, think it was €170 per month for unlimited
I think you could get ISDN in both monthly pricing or by the minute, but my memory is hazy
Before we had fixed price i used €350 per month Mostly
anyone here ever had a pager? remember those? those you would get charged by the text lol
I had a pager for a short time - shitty little devices
I have my translucent neon green one still somewhere in a box
they were neat for the time
one way traffic that was charged expensively
1984-2003 we had pagers it seems
luckily I dodnt have to pay for it
Don't think I saw one after 1995 though
I've never seen a pager
pagers are still a thing or was till recently
We got mobile phones pretty early on with Nokia and all that
still used for buisness stuff I believe
I had my first mobile in 1996 or 7
mobile, you mean brick?
I had a brick then I had a flip phone that was heavy as all hell lol
even had a craddle for it for my truck at the time, gave me hands free calling
no point in still using pagers other than wont be hacked cos its so useless, since we all have mobile phones that do text meeages
that cradle is sought after by museums now cause it was so rare for people to have lol
pretty sure some buisness's still use them. they are reliable in coverage and only one way
hell mine worked in a cave
never had a cell phone do that
even tho they are pretty much the same cept pagers are all cdma or something
pagers probably still work on analogue circuits - and they dont exist these days
cdma has mostly gone too
Nokia 1610 was my first one, so 1996 sounds right
you missed the iconic cockroach? the nokia 101? tsk tsk tsk!
knew people still used them
i would see them every once in a blue moon on someone's table at a restraunt etc
Nothing surprise me with the us
I think I was the first one in our class to have my own phone. Nokia rinGo 😄
Either 1996 or 1997
it's not just the us you hater
pager hater
what did he get a ban for? Or are you yanking chains?
I don't know if he was banned or muted or what
ahh - ok
life is good when you have at least 500 Mbit down in every corner
Im trying to integrated my car with Home Assistant. I dont know much about automotive engineering, so its all like a black magic for me. I have managed to dump CAN messages in the following format:
197#0E80000094800854 039#002A 3F8#0000000016242820 18E#00002F 136#000000000000003B
am i correct to assume that this means <message type>#<message value>?
There is already odbii to WiFi adapters
That should do that automatically afaik
This one does it via Bluetooth to a mobile device to ha
yeah, i have been planning to use Torque before, but quite important things like fuel level, autoalarm state, etc are not disclosed through standard OBD2 messages
and to be honest, having HA know about autoalarm set off seems much more useful than just logging vehicle speed/engine parameters
thats why i need to somehow find the relevant messages in can
There must (still) be automotive Discords/forums that discuss this kind of thing, though I've long since lost touch with them
what do you get from it? reminders to change your oil?
think the only bit of information i would want in HA from a vehicle would be batt perc and maybe if the anti-theft was triggered
I can keep statistics based on how often and how much I fill the tank, how often i charge the battery, how much windscreen washer fluid I use, how long my average trips are
Should I keep going
Plus i can make the heater start automatically when i unplug my phone in the morning
but for what purpose
don't scare people with how well your car is made 😂
Graphs
How well Chinese cars are made you mean
your car. Not your people's cars
lol yea, auto coloring books
you know when people ask you how much MPG you get in your car but then you do an entire presentation with graphs and slides. that's why!
Wana feel like a race car driver
tracking certian data only tells you what you already know.. your car is aging
MPG 😂
It tells you how though 😉
i had to use fantasy units so sonoma understands
Moiles purr gawlown
data can tell you a lot of things and you can sometimes learn something useful from the weirdest things
Also, I'm sure you could use some of that to spot problems when they start, and are easy/cheap to fix

but still mute
Problem… don’t forget oil change
Problem 2…. Don’t ever let your gas run out
Problem 3…. Change your tires when you are supposed to
Result? Your Toyota should last 300k
yet only lasts 80k regardless
just don't see a point at collecting data just for the fact of collecting data
Im concidering buying an apartment. Im so tired of renovation and yard maintainanace
I'm considering buying a house twice the size i have now
now tracking batt perc on vehicle and mowers.. that be nice
maybe barcode in oslo or something
yeah -eat plenty of beans!! that will keep your gas charged! lol
well don't many of you run diesel.. just swing by a fast food place and dump used cooking oil in it
I need to refind that video where they had converted a diesel car to run off cooking oil
How big is the volume vs mount "volume" in docker (eg native volume in (/var/lib/docker) vs /mnt/to/files)
For Home Assistant, do u guys like Alexa or Google Home better? I have both to try out, will return one this week but we cant make a decision!
rather than picking on based on how well it interacts with HA (which can always change) I would look up which one does what you would use it for the most (aside from HA control) because they both excel at diffrent things
Did you try looking?
I prefer google home assistant because it has a switch to turn the microphone off, which actually cuts power to the microphone. With Alexa I believe the microphone is always powered
Also, Google speaks my language, while Alexa is just english
which does integrate best with HA? I like things about both lol I need someone to be the decision maker.
Alexa has more 'conversations' with you, shes an ugly sphere though. She tries to 'learn you' and can pair with more devices. She hears even over the TV better and she does actually have a power off button (ontop). The notifications for every amazon thing gets a bit tiring though.
Google is more beautiful asthetically, it has better audio and pairs with the google search engine, but aside from looks and sound I think the brains behind it is kinda dumb, it also has a hard time hearing us over the tv.
There are rumors that some of Google speakers have spoken my language
I use voice for... Nothing but gimmicks anyway
you gonna get the alilexpress one when it comes out?
My house automates around me without interaction
yeah but we like being able to ask google/alexa to set a certain like scene, blue lights for example
tech speaking google is the smarter of the two
Why not set a scene based on a button or a specific time of day + button or if person X is home and person y is gone and time of day

really? how so?
I liked that alexa has like an AI built in, shes trying to understand I guess. or maybe it just gives off the appearance of such things?
BTW can Home Assistant somehow allow Google to notify you if your fire alarm goes off? I know Alexa has that built in, as well as baby crying
Sure, if you have smart fire alarms
the scene is more for like 'okay movie night!' or if we want to know how far something is we ask google, or if we want to know when something closes if we are running out of the house to do errands we have x y z
yeah im in an appartment, no smart fire alarms. was hoping there was something to say 'hey - I HEAR an alarm' and notify
alexa has that built in apparently
or just buy a wyze cam and put tape over it. it has built in notifications for fire and co through sound
way cheaper alternative lol
Lol wyze
it works great i tested it. it will pick up the alarm from 2 floors away
Wyze isn't even supported by HA anymore, because they were dicks last i checked

Unofficial API
Very promising

haha
we do have amazon and Alexa and stuff
I don't know how it is with Alexa, but with Google Home you have the issue that if you add multiple users to the house it creates duplicates for each device. This is easily solved by creating "Duplicate houses" in your google home app but it still annoys me
apparently alexa can do the sound thing for fire alarms too
wowww thats impressive! yeah wyze is madd cheap!!
thats neat
yeah alexa and google both are F'ed up with their users
alexa guard is what they call it
right now it annoys me to no end that my husband set it up, and now I dont have access to the home assistant stuff we add, so he has to manually add it.
how do u do the duplicate house?
Just create a second house in your Google Home app and put all the duplicate devices in there
You can just assign devices to a different house in your app
interesting...
You could also just keep 1 user but that means google can't learn your voice for example, so you can't have routines per user.
idk, husband likes google, I like alexa now. I wish I could put alexa in the google looking pill shaped device
exactly yeah thats annoying too
Why not use them both 😄
cuz i already have homepod so I can have it track our iphone locations lol
so Im like maxed out with these things
wtf both google and alexa want a subscription fee for that sound detection stuff.. f that
yeah exactly, wyze is a much better solution for that
yea it's free aside from the cost of the camera.. just buy a v2 if all you use it for is the sound detect
right yeah i have aqara cameras i love very much
What do you mean with the sound detection stuff
but have had the worst time trying to get them integrated into home assistant
right now its integrated via homekit on HA but its VERY CHOPPYY
sound detection = tell me when the fire alarm is going off and im not home
they detect when smoke alarms etc go off in your home
Wyze is great if you like a product that can stop working any moment
I mean, that can be said about any product
Couldn't you just buy a zigbee smoke sensor and have an automation in Home Assistant to trigger a sound file through the house?
Well, "unofficial API" isn't a great selling point
Yes
don't need to even intergrate it into HA for that
smoke sensor isnt a bad idea
How often do you have fires? I have 12 smoke detectors in my house, last time one was triggered was probably 2010, because I burned something in the oven while cooking dinner
you know they go bad right?
maybe you hadn't one trigger cause none of yours is still able to work lol
Sure, we replace them every 10 years, and batteries once a year
We test them at least twice a year
so every 10 years your buying expensive "smart" alarms that don't ever go off
when you could just replace one device
that makes cheap alarms smart
No, i don't use smart alarms
oh
I have one, on my 3d printer though
But the ones I have now are wirelessly connected
Was an offer through the insurance Company
to each other you mean?
You don't have to print at full speed
I have those, those are still dumb expensive compared to normal ones
I wanted them cause they speak and tell you which one was triggered
They cost $10 each with the deal
mine are like 50 a pop
600mm2/s on an ender 3 brrrrrrrrr
Print at brim speed so no need for smoke alarms.
did cali's just remove theirs all together? I would imagine with the state being on fire so much they would get annoying
The most important sensor in the house. That stays.
well i had a time where my cats stupidly turned on the igniter on our gas stove and leaked propane out for a full day while we were away.
Another time my computer caught fire.. I was home when it happened, GPU had a random fire running just google chrome
did the cats survive?
yeah lol cuz it was just leaking gas slowly into the air
we came back and smelled the hallway was filled, opened our door and had to open all of the windows dead of winter
lol
I have a seperate NG detector in my basement just for the gas driven stuff but it's not linked to my smoke alarms
ng detector?
natural gas
Natural. From your bowels?
ender @clear ferry you should join the prusa gang like the pros
I don't know if it would detect methane or not lol
Nah , it's for people who can not tune REAL printer
Some tune, some print.
ender is not a REAL printer, its creality noob
wtf 😮
What a fun is to buy a printer which works OOB
Next time you should be very very very careful opening or closing anything when there's gass in the house, as opening a door can cause a spark
metal on metal
Or static spark
gas needs just a very very tiny spark to ignite
@fallow karma I had a creatlity. Looking at upgrade costs I could buy a prusa. Though I bought the build kit prusa, so learned a lot by building it almost 100% from ground up
geesh
so bottom line though (back to the original q), u guys mostly prefer google over alexa - because its all u have available?
I prefer alexa, but using google
Had Alexa back in the day. GA now, and all day.
I prefer the wake word alexa is easier to say, and I feel alexa understand better non us speakers (even if I speak english at home I notice a difference)
speed I feel alexa is also a bit faster on local control
but that could be some nabu casa issue as I get a lot of nabu casa issues (cant reach nabu casa errors)
I build kind-of-prusa from scratch. With steel frame
No, Alexa is available here aswell. I like the Google Interface more + works better with android devices and chromecasts and stuff + it speaks my language. Alexa is better with routines but I will be doing all that through home assistant anyway
but you should just go with whatever fits your needs the most. I like the fact you can give Alexa multiple names like echo or dot. With google it's just "hey google"
yeah why?
@fallow karma I have not even turned on my mk3s in a year so I might sell the whole thing
Same here
thanks guys!
So guys I was just wondering, I want to intergrate google with home assistant. Should I go the manual route or go the Nabu Casa route?
Yes
#integrations-archived can guide you further, but it depends on whether you want to pay for the easy button, or get it free for a little work
I dont know, but maybe a speed difference with manual route as you can do a server very close, but I have not tried it. I use Nabu Casa for supporting HA
ah great, thanks 😄
For me GA much better at handling commands. Speed, both were equally fast. Mainly I like how GA integrates with android, don't have to unlock to issue a voice command. I rarely use it now but prefer GA. If you have to issue voice commands all day then you are not using HA as you are supposed to. 😀
I want to see the injection mold for those 3M picture hanging velco strips. that's gotta be some black magic type shit right there
@tidal bronze I always have issues GA just think for 10-15 seconds after a command, then turn on the lights and say "could not talk to nabu casa for home assistant" or something
I don't use NC. Direct integration, been like that from get go.
there's a known performance/scalability issue with NC Alexa/GH integration that they're working on
@tidal bronze direct how?
Even with cloudflare, GA ips white listed it's lighting fast.
Look at the docs for integration. It's been years since I looked at them.
The same people who run unifi? No thanks
noob Q but am I suppose to be able to view my HA via my https://example.duckdns.org:8123 port?
Well, depends on if you did everything you need to do
Only if you set up port forwarding, and SSL
But not here
There's no support for Home Assistant here - please look at the other channels for that. If you can't work out which is relevant, start in #general-archived.
If it's a question about the HA Yellow see #yellow-archived, and #330990055533576204 for the Blue. Install related problems go to your Installation Method channel.
No politics, religion, or any other obviously contentious topics! Please ensure you've read the Code of Conduct (https://www.home-assistant.io/code_of_conduct/), and #rules.
If you found this server and want to know what it's about, start with the web site: https://www.home-assistant.io/

You want your install method channel, or #general-archived
oh sorry ok
Woohoo, my 100% paternity leave was approved in less than 10 days, a working state system @forest edge

how long is your leave?
neat
stay nice
The HBO apps are...not good. It tells me that my sub billed through YTTV is expired about once a week
Last I heard they acknowledged it and were rolling out new apps. Maybe you got screwed in the process
You need a router that supports VLANs and firewall rules
I thought your only trigger word was Cisco
Can't keep up with all the hate nausea
Social networking 😟
uuuuunnnnniiiiffffffiiiiiiiii

Guessing we will follow suit next week
English, yes. The rest of us dance to a different tune
@clear ferry at work
L O L
What was the norwegian word for blowjobs before the translation
demolition work
Akershus . I read a book for children about it . Jø Nesbø
I got to call Lars 😆
Im sure he will be happy for that
Hi Lars. I've heard that you do blowjobs
But not felt anyone, time to change this
If you want to read a good Norwegian book sophie's world or through a glass, darkly or the solitaire mystery is very good @fallow karma
Is it something for beginner , probably not?
Well, they are translated to English i believe
But Norwegian overall is very simple
Compared to say, advanced level English
How is your autonomy in regards with this stuff? Complete?
Seems there is a german version also but my intention would be to read something in norwegian
I read the silmarillion when I was 15, that was way too early
They should be easy to follow in Norwegian
Okay
Varied... we've got as much autonomy as we're allowed if I'm cynical
The longest book I read is Atlas Shrugged
Maybe i will try one of those
Kabalmysteriet is my favourite @shadow prawn
That's fair. But technically you could choose a completely different direction from London?
I should read some Ayn Rand, it'll be after the expanse and Neuromancer
Ayn Rand is a lot of babble
I can imagine
one monolouge of probably 200 pages
The expanse i have only seen so far, i am reading «Influence, the psychology of persuasion» at the moment, really interessting
Yup, and we have through the pandemic
Too many good books, too little time
I was thinking to try the expanse in book version
Opnsense
Vyos
Untangle
In that order
Shitty company with shitty standards and ideals
The Apple of networking doesn't help
"Prosumer" is a wide range of stuff from neat, to junk
I use it, and it works, but not at enterprice
If you want cheap commercial and works then the Edgerouter range is fine, though I like the Mikrotik stuff more
Not only that, but ubiquiti's development within the past 2 years has been atrocious
pfsense or opnsense is miles ahead in terms of routing
Stuff like this is STILL happening... they blame everyone else but themselves https://community.ui.com/questions/strange-MAC-addresses-in-insight-report/321e6759-0af5-4ef2-a3b9-985a7e5b1457#answer/0d3f8860-cfca-41da-b855-2eb564e64e6d
I'll consider it
Today my training class was disbanded and our 4,5 day training ended up after one day. Freaking pandemic
Mechanics do training? I just though you applied more torque
I am not exactly mechanic
strength training
I am tech specialist , called in our company Cotech. And EV specialist also.
Seems weak for a pole
Which country are you coming from
Well, at least the booze is afordable in contrast to norway 😂
It really is
Wife got us watching Yellowstone, she lured me in by saying it was Sons of Anarchy with horses
It isn't really vodka inside. It's homebrew 'moonshine' made of nuts by our mountaineers. It's about 70% alcohol
And it really is
There's a prequel for Yellowstone that someone here recommended, right? Weird to see that popping up now
Yeah that one
Anyone uses Xiaomi TV stick 4K ?
Only firetvs 💁♂️
I like my edgerouter x, but you really need to have a decent knowledge of networking because it doesn't hold your hand much at all except for the basics
Or be good at googling. Or both
Oh, man. YABASIC! The thing Sony did to marked PS2 as a "home computer".
So many long night programming in freaking basic on a CRT at the foot of my bed with a damn playstation controller.
Not as fun as creating music on a snes with Mario paint and an actual computer mouse
Did that too. Never had the mouse, though.
gona install Home Ass on my StinkPad 420
Does it matter. Just like HP right ?😆
luckily i use windows
@tidal bronze Godamnit! Will you cali's stop spreading new variants already?! https://youtu.be/4XjB6UPq0Po
UCSF Infectious Disease Expert Dr. Peter Chin-Hong on the new descendant of the highly contagious omicron variant detected in Santa Clara County
http://www.bestemailsoftheweek.com/califborderwall.jpg And we're gonna make california's pay for it!
All for love
that's the problem, maybe if you bastards would do a little less "lovin" the spread wouldn't be as bad
Kale, coconut water and whole lotta lovin makes everything all so right 😆
@forest edge you should really go enjoy a sunset at the beach.
and get sand in my ass? no thanks
the only real reason to go at all isn't it
Maybe
@forest edge little bit of sand is ok as long as it takes that neverending bitterness away, you deserve to be happy.
you remember that bitterness remark when the first subvariant strain of covid causes your neighbors and mailman to want and eat your dogs
We are very good at making movies in LA and making the world believe, you know that Walking Dead is not real right ?
you know the lyrics to Don't worry, Be happy isn't
Here's a little song I wrote..
You might want to sing it note for note.
Don't worry, be happy.
In every life we have some STD's
But when you worry you make it HIV
Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy now.
It's Tuesday and already long week.
well your constantly running around from airport to airport.. i mean
i would just give up and wear rollerskates by now
Lol. Been on a flight at least once a day since Friday.
f that, tell whoever you are flying to to use zoom or something
I wish. Drones are not that remote, yet. Lol.
I know click bait YT videos say otherwise.
I wanna hang out with seth mcfairlane lol
Anyway 3 more hours to hone. Finally.
lol drones. friend got one last year and the first time he took it up the wind caught it and it blew off to never be seen from again.
"welp.. that was fun. Let's head back inside now"
Just like drivers, not all pilots are equally skilled. 🤣
never seen the wind carry a car away to never be seen from again tho
seen wind carry vehicles away in tornado's but they always find them wrapped around trees or something
Usually the specs state, maximum cross wind handling capability of the flight controller. Perhaps your friend thought it was a one horse cart that you can just jump and go.
no idea lol
just wish I had been there to see the look on his face when it poofed.. would have been priceless
Good thing I don't work for those bastards anymore
Are you not with HPE?
Oh dang, that’s quite an exploit. Would it be safe to assume the exploit effects Raspberry Pi OS, hence it effects Home Assistant OS running on Pi’s?
Not much of an issue unless users are forwarding SSH to their server
Users don't do that
HAOS doesn't use Raspberry Pi OS
Yeah, I have one jumpstation, only allowing yubikey logins and patched every Saturday
So if I die, someone needs to find my yubikeys
Hint, my daughter steals them
Oops, I though it was. What is HAOS based off?
alpine
buildroot?
pootpoot
How is it, that i learned about barrier so late
I used synergy for a long time
I even have a license
Now I just add more screens instead, i have four, might add a fifth
wtf? max i can work with is 3.
the other 2 would just consume senseless energy for me
Well have to work with multiple machines simultaneously
Have one big 40 inch 4K screen
- 4K Laptop
I currently do 2x28" 4k + 2x24" 1080p, might add one more 4k soon
It's fine for pure chat windows
I'm an old man with terminal glasses
The second one just plays my Plex videos
CRT or GTFO
Sony made a great CRT
These were Sony Trinitons
Three of those
Got them for free too
triniTONs 😂 you did that on purpose
Reminds me of one of my old sony tvs, weighed 50kg too
Good thing I had a station wagon
I had a couple very similar to those
Sounds like some high end shit in their time
Yes
They belonged to the x-ray department of the local hospital
They had had them for 2 years or so
And replacing them
So I picked them up
How long is this ago
Yeah until it’s broken

is it cars again?
You have all these things powered up at your home 😅
german autobahn ftw
Many people have asked that we share raw footage from the GoPro from inside the car during the Top Speed test and so we did. We hope you enjoy the ride, this time from a different perspective.
It is July 2021, and it's been six years since our last trip to the Autobahn near Wittenberg, Germany. We have been to this city a few times, to remind ...
Not anymore
Well that was where i am living, have allready been sitting in a chiron, too
It doesn't look like that anymore
What said your electricity bill to this. I wouldnt know why i would need all these things
There's like one hydro power plant per 100 Norwegians, so it's fine.
Is that a gen10 microserver?
Well, we on the other hand have the maybe highest elevtricity costs in the world
Maybe i need a rack one time too
These guys are great
The one on top of it is a Edgeline 1000
With a m710x cartridge
I'm thinking of the one with the green rectangle. But I suppose they put that on lots of things.
What do I know? My microserver doesn't have it.
My rack's 6RU
Trying to find a 3U ATX case that'll mount neatly in a wall mount rack ain't easy.
Shallow racks 🤢
modest sized houses
I'm not a datacenter, I need a switch, firewall, HASS, and desktop PC in it
and I only had to run cat6 back from the TV and where the NBN comes in. House isn't that network heavy
Honestly I don't get what you get out of all your stuff for home usage unless you're running a company out of your home
It's my lab and playpen
Other people have motorcycles they wash twice a week and drive twice a year 🤷
It’s a hobby 😂
Oh I had one of those to myself at work when I was a network engineer, and am kinda still fine to have left that behind atm.
If I had won powerball to afford my $2.4m house I wanted, though...
(I'd have both the cars and the tech hobby)
When you get paid to know stuff, and it takes you 2h to get the gist of a new product, it helps to have a lab
🤢
the kettle is the other 90% right?
Now you are thinking about the Brits
Who else designs military vehicles with a brew in mind?
Ours didn’t have coffee cup holders 😦
Yeah quite a lot especially where I'm from. Hadn't really stopped for two days to the point it completely covered cars. But stopped since last night now
man the bells and whistles on the new ev trucks are insane
