Hi, I face problem connecting to navy casa cloud, is server down?

clear ferry
#

What the.... No, I've never seen, and it makes no sense

glacial knot
#

even fiber channel?

#

it makes a lot of sense!

clear ferry
last cedar
glacial knot
#

fiber isn't DAC though is it? But that's the type of SFP that would make sense with PoE

clever mortar
#

There's even a channel for the cloud service, conveniently named

glacial knot
#

What is it named? Rain?

glacial knot
#

Otto!

clear ferry
glacial knot
#

What does fibre mean? Fibre is the same word as fiber. The only difference between them is in their spellings. Fiber is preferred in American spelling; fibre is the preferred spelling in British English.

clear ferry
#

Fibre channel has both proprietary DAC and optics

#

As they run on 1/2/4/8/16/32/64 gbit

#

And some internal fc-al is even stranger

late gate
#

I hate altibox just offering IPV6RD

Poor man's ipv6

late gate
#

yeah

#

unfi doesnt support it

#

well it does, but then I need to use cli

clear ferry

Lol unifi

#

🤢

late gate
#

yeah yeah yeah

smoky vector
#

No, the general type of interface (SFP, SFP+, QSFP, QSFP-DD) is having trouble delivering enough power to drive the transceivers themselves as technology advances (100g, 400g, etc.), trying to push PoE over it would go way beyond what those types of sockets are capable of

clear ferry
#

Just implement 2.5g

#

No wait

#

🤢

#

What a shitty thing to introduce in the late 10s, it was fine in 2008, but... As a big thing in 2021

smoky vector
#

2.5g...ugh...a solution in search of a problem

#

<-- does computer networking professionally, so....has opinions.

late gate
#

you guys complaining 2.5g, when I was downloading on kazaa on 56k

umbral cliff
#

Honestly to me whatever network is cheapest is what I’ll take lol

forest edge
#

I complain about 2.5g cause it's a marketing split between the 5g it maxes out at

late gate
#

when will you ever hit 2,5g?

umbral cliff
#

2.5 might be useful for storage. About it

smoky vector
clear ferry
#

2.5 is a shitty solution

#

It was great when we did it in 2008

forest edge
clear ferry
#

To make servers with 1g cards usable for a few more years

#

The Americans have 1800/2 internet you know @late gate

#

With 20gb quota per month

late gate
#

sounds nice

forest edge
#

my house is using cat 5.. I couldn't use that crap if I wanted lol

late gate
#

Im happy with my 1/1gb

umbral cliff
#

I’m content on my 100/20 😛

forest edge
#

lol dialup

smoky vector
#

2.5g was mostly created because newer wifi standards, when adding the throughput available on 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands totaled to around 2.5gbps. Nevermind that those numbers were purely theoretical and would never get hit in real life, so a bog standard 1gbps feed to an AP would be absolutely sufficient. Also, 2.5gbps was about the top at what could be done on 100Mhz rated cat 5e.

clear ferry
#

Yeah we did 2.5 directly in the midplane

umbral cliff
clear ferry
#

Which was easy enough

forest edge
#

I thought 5g was the top that could be done on 5e?

smoky vector
#

nope, 5gbps requires 250Mhz rated cable, which is cat 6

#

well..."requires"...it's one of those things that'll probably work on cat 5e, but it's not in spec

forest edge
#

yea. i get 1g out of my cat 5 and it's not rated for it

#

5 not 5e to make it clear lol

clear ferry
#

5G is also an abomination

#

Just do 10

#

Consumers don't need more than 1 anyway, the prosumers can piss off and people who have a real interest will just run 10/25

smoky vector
#

I work more in the service provider world, so I'm going from 10 to 100. 🤷

clear ferry
#

Yeah, I did 100 three years ago already

#

200 is rolling out now

umbral cliff
smoky vector
#

yeah, I was doing some 100, then changed jobs and just getting the new gig to start moving to 100.

clear ferry
#

Did a 100g spine with 40g leafs in 2018

#

It was never put into production

#

Because the project got scrapped

late gate
#

@clear ferry you are just spoiled by enterprise equipment

clear ferry
#

Well yes

#

Prosumers are just shitkids

forest edge
smoky vector
#

my previous gig was doing 100g down to active-active 25 to end hosts, so an effection 50g for each host

clear ferry
#

Yeah, most end is 25 these days, 40 is dying since we started doing it a decade ago

smoky vector
#

meanwhile, my current gig is internally using 40g exclusively instead of 25g. 🤷

umbral cliff
clear ferry
#

You should see me in customer meetings @umbral cliff

smoky vector
#

I've got some prosumer gear at home...the annoyance is that most prosumer folks just don't have a real clue what their needs actually are.

clear ferry
#

Did you say unifi?

#

🤢

umbral cliff
forest edge
#

don't mind atx, he's gotta go attend his tape drive

smoky vector
#

I've got unifi APs...I've used worse.

late gate
#

what is wrong with your ap?

smoky vector
#

my biggest gripe with them is the management tool is a bit flakey...the APs themselves seem to pretty much keep chugging along with no problems

forest edge
#

with the exception of those wall wart ap's I never seen an ap that didn't work well

#

looking at tp link

glacial knot
#

I've found ones that are easy to overload. But that's about it
60ish devices on a 20€ AP was a bit much

clear ferry
#

My biggest issues with unifi is their shitty handling of customers, with forced advertising, telling customers they will brick their hardware if they upgrade and their downplay of data leaks that turned out to be even more ridiculous than first thought

#

Doesn't help that their userbase think they are network security experts since they can click on a ui

smoky vector
glacial knot
#

I think the one I had there said 32^^

#

actual capability in terms of some tables might have been 64

#

I assume that the 300+ is 512 clients for everything that has static entries. But don't want to make any guarantees upward of 300 because MAC starts getting iffy

smoky vector
#

You know, I've never really dug into what the limiting factor on APs typically really is. My guess is cpu to track and manage active associations.

glacial knot
#

I know that at least the cheap ones have static table sizes. Which sets a hard limit
And I'd have to look into my old slides, but there's also just simple maths around probabilities and exponential backoff

#

but that's less of a specific AP issue and more a general one.

smoky vector
#

I don't do wifi for $dayjob, so I've never dug that deep to learn.

glacial knot
#

I've dug way to deep into wifi (at)university. So I have a good theoretical understand of the standards and how it works
I also know that almost every major vendor tries to kinda not follow the actual standards to get ahead in the game...

smoky vector
#

I mean, that's not just wifi

glacial knot
#

what?

static schooner
#

I also know that almost every major vendor tries to kinda not follow the actual standards to get ahead in the game...

glacial knot
#

ah, yes. That^^

static schooner
#

standards are often made by companies implementing what they want and then pushing it in standards bodies

glacial knot
#

on that note, don't buy broadcom 🙂

#

wifi actually has a bunch of optimum coordination algorithms that aren't stable wrt. game theory. So the skirting of standards improves a single device while it actively hurts full network throughput
Other stuff like extensions to the RTS/CTS are totally improvements on the standard ways

mortal pendant
#

Would $1250 be a decent price to buy this, including shipping?

static schooner
#

a little overpowered for HA 🙂

mortal pendant

it'll cost you half of that in a year in power

I actually bought a little tikes PC from a government auction for $1

$1 for the whole setup 😆

hollow glacier

Do your parents show that to guests when they come over?

mortal pendant

I have nieces and nephews that play the games on it

That is a stiff price for a 5 year old tower server

#

$200 in CPUs, $100 in memory, and spinning rust is basically free used

mortal pendant

The case alone, no mobo is going for $300 on eBay. A bit much lol

subtle pasture
#

Because any X99 motherboard will run one of those CPUs

mortal pendant
subtle pasture
#

It has a lot of cores, but they're old Broadwell-E cores...

#

A single 12900k can actually outpace those older dual xeons.

#

It's also worth mentioning that the dual Xeon system will be comprised of two NUMA nodes, so any software that isn't NUMA aware won't be able to see half of those cores.

i got a q6034 for free

@last cedar

but it wount boot

i have it's OG was working at one point injector, and the fluke says it was putting out 30 w still

#

but when i watch it, it does same thing on my switch and the injector

#

it power cycles seemingly without flashing it status light at all

#

almost as if it's short boot power cycling or something

last cedar
#

It is High PoE that a provided injector supplies

jade tartan
last cedar
#

According to the spec, unsure exactly how many watts it takes

jade tartan

both my switch and the injector thats OG to it, power it

or i should say are within spec

this was a working camera and it stoped

with the injector i have for it

jade tartan
#

if anyone can ID that clip standard, and i can order one, you can power it through that clip

last cedar
#

What do leds say? There are two

jade tartan
#

they dont turn on

#

as if the unit isnt powering

#

but it deff has poe

#

that is enough

#

its making me think the poe side of it might be dead

cause i found this thread

last cedar

It should only need 21W

#

Via poe

#

I have one of those ac sockets, I think

#

I save all sorts of crap

jade tartan
#

i need that clip end

so i can pin it myself

im thinking the POE power side died

and that if i do what that dude is doing

maybe i can power it through a 24v transformer

low harness
#

Looks kind of proprietary, but also pretty much dupont-compatible?

no, just the pins

i just realized this is an indoor only ptz

if i get this working my wife will hate me

last cedar

There should be a seperate 3 pin connector for ac/ dc power

jade tartan
#

it connects to this multi connector

#

they make you buy this cord

#

thats like 100

to use the multi connector

#

which has the break out for audio and sich and also external power

#

newer versions prolly just are built in

#

this camera is old appearently

#

720p

last cedar
#

Yes

#

Have you tried the power button

#

It says it is used if the dome cover is not on

jade tartan
#

primarily assume that anything standard, ive tried, and that it's completely torn apart at this point and the poe base board still by itself does the same blinking

#

(the blinking being on the poe injector or my switch indicating it's starting up, but turns right back off)

last cedar
#

Ok, fair enough :)

#

I will let you handle it then

jade tartan
#

oh i dont mind ideas, just ive tried all the standard stuff

#

and my next stop was to power it externally once i could figure out which pins go to power

#

no idea tho and no docs

#

unless i knew someone with a multi cable

last cedar
#

The docs are there

#

Full manual

#

Their ptz stuff has always been a little special.

last cedar
#

Mmm, their normal cameras are sweeeeeeeet.

jade tartan

no like, the connector they have, i need the pin out, so i dont have to buy it, i highly doubt they are going to publish that so i dont buy their 100 cable

clear ferry

I'm gonna bet POS neg is on either side

#

Then sync / Sig on middle ones, and audio on other side

#

Should be able to find someone who has looked for the same before

jade tartan
#

you'd think?

#

i cant find a whole lot on the pin out for it

#

i posted pics

#

id be fine duponting just the right pins

i wonder if it would be safe to assume that it's one of those 4 pins

as they are the only ones with those beefy components after them

It's alternative to writing automations in Home Assistant. It has a visual interface that still requires a lot of messing about with json in the actual guts of your automation. Which is weird. Wonderful! Love you guys. Devs here are just awesome.
Wish there were more devs like you (:

umbral cliff

The developers don’t want to be earning less

Also not exactly tax evasion, still pay local tax of where they’re based (eg I pay GST on steam games I order)

jade tartan

so what your saying is, they can accept that small of an ammount from people in 3rd world country's for a license, but not the US? seems discriminatory that they would just charge us x10 the price because of currency

you see articles about them adding this and that to tax's all the time but they have shelf life so it always changes

All the data packets are 100% trash

clear ferry
#

ZigBee lyfe

late gate
#

I wish they used a lower frequency on zigbee

last cedar
#

So it won't interfere with other data on the 2.4 band

clear ferry
#

No need for other frequencies

last cedar
#

It would make sense, but because of how they decided stuff will be, we are stuck

clear ferry
#

120 ZigBee devices,no WiFi devices have issues

last cedar
#

Only 120? Is that some kind of peasant installation?

forest edge
#

lol 120

last cedar
#

But seriously, it is amazing how much stuff you caan zigbee if you want

late gate
#

Im only worried the rumors of zb ch25 is also limited

#

lots of rumors floating around

forest edge
#

really I don't see a whole lot of stuff you can zigbee lol

clear ferry
#

Just don't run zb25

last cedar
#

My outside lights are 7 devices, alone. Ouch

clear ferry
#

Problem solved

forest edge
#

mostly just your run of the mill basic sensors lol

clear ferry
last cedar
#

Not everyone lives in a palace 🤣

clear ferry
#

Ikea tradfri work fine outdoors

#

In -30c

last cedar
#

I need more. At least 2 more on the short sides

#

I haven't had issues with mine either Atx

#

Took the new dimable colour spectrum ones gu10

clear ferry
#

Same ones I've used outdoors for two years

last cedar
#

Colour spectrum isn't needed, looks silly on anything but standard

late gate
#

why not run zb25?

last cedar
#

Dimming is nice though

clear ferry
#

I change the colour every few weeks to make neighbours confused

clear ferry
late gate
#

If its just a rumor its no point repair everything

clear ferry
#

Repairing is fast

#

Probably 1.5h for 120 devices

#

But just do proper interference scans first

late gate
#

I plan moving to ch20

clear ferry
#

Is it less congested then 25? Then do it

clear ferry
#

Seriously

forest edge
#

wtf is zb25?

clear ferry
#

My neighbor came up and thought the lights were broken @last cedar

#

I should change them all for RGB at some point, for Halloween and Christmas

forest edge
#

thats what I do

#

every holiday my outside lights change colors or do cycles

#

and just automate it for that super lazy effect

#

"see i didn't forget st patricks day"

clear ferry
#

You don't even have neighbours

forest edge
#

sure i do, they just don't live up my ass like yours

clear ferry
#

You are mistaking me for @late gate

#

I can't even see my neighbours WiFi ssids

forest edge
#

thats because they don't know what wifi is

late gate
#

lucky

forest edge
#

you guys are still catching up remember

clear ferry
#

Said the guy with a landline

forest edge
#

don't knock landline

#

shit is stable and reliable

umbral cliff
#

Until landline is literally a glorified VOIP line

forest edge
#

we have both options

clear ferry
#

Shit is currently being torn out of the ground and telephone lines here right now

#

Decommissioning time

forest edge
#

what for tho

#

it hurts nothing

umbral cliff
clear ferry
#

It's not being used, probably gonna recycle it

last cedar
#

Giant lightning conductor @forest edge

forest edge
#

some day some norwat stranded won't have a means to call for help.. not that you all help each other anyways but still

umbral cliff
#

Copper in the ground requires maintenance, cheaper to not keep it

forest edge
clear ferry
#

We have 4g coverage 2km out into the sea, we'll be fine

forest edge
#

covers basic home automation..

umbral cliff
forest edge
#

everything else that isn't?

umbral cliff
#

Like what? What do you have apart from that

#

Well except cameras

forest edge
#

never seen a zigbee tv or appliance

#

or a camera

clear ferry
scenic radish
#

Lolwut

last cedar
#

Shakesperes zigbee, to bee or not zigbee

forest edge
#

is there a zigbee tv?

clear ferry
#

You see now why we make fun of your nation @scenic radish

late gate
#

hue is on ch 20 right now

scenic radish
clear ferry
#

So 20 is perfect @late gate

scenic radish
#

No Zigbee camera exists because zigbee doesn't have enough bandwidth for that

umbral cliff
forest edge
last cedar
#

The simple solution to your problem is a giant emp Aleks. Wipe out all competition

umbral cliff
forest edge
#

just touching base on your zigbee covers everything

umbral cliff
#

It covers everything that the average home user wants to do that doesn’t already have a need for wifi

#

Or Ethernet

clear ferry
#

ZigBee life

forest edge
#

so does bt

late gate
#

yeah I will change it since I got the pure POE tube

forest edge
#

and more

clear ferry
#

Gtfo

late gate
#

but not today ofc. I cant wait for the family thing being over

#

Im so sick of christmas

clear ferry
#

Lol family

forest edge
#

not all zigbee is mesh

#

as i found out..

last cedar
#

It starts in October

#

Not a suprise people hate it

clear ferry
#

Because you buy poop or end devices yes @forest edge

forest edge
#

but it's better quality than ikea..

late gate
#

saying the one who buy aquara

umbral cliff
#

IKEA is great quality

forest edge
#

ikea is the dollar store

umbral cliff
#

Cheap doesn’t mean shit

clear ferry
last cedar
forest edge
#

aqura was pricey

clear ferry
#

None of that sonoff battery drain

clear ferry
forest edge
late gate
#

sonoff door and temperature is fine - keeping connected

#

the PIR sensor sucks

umbral cliff
late gate
#

philips PIR is very good

forest edge
#

sonoff is trash lol

#

godamn hub still pisses me off

scenic radish
clear ferry
#

Lol hub

late gate
#

I dont use sonoff hub

forest edge
last cedar
clear ferry
#

I just modded the tradfri led drivers to use my own LEDs

late gate
#

Though sonoff I dont believe is zb3 as advertised

clear ferry
last cedar
#

Not looked into it

clear ferry
#

Open, solder on the connector you want
