depends on which "brand"
also if you happen to need a single color controller, this one is still ESP based: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JC3L4Z6
this one but it's the A variant
i mean imma solder to it and try flashing, cause i havent been using it for a while so might as well
make sure it's actually an ESP first
if it's already on your network (which it sounds like it is), grab its MAC address from your router's admin page and check it here: https://www.wireshark.org/tools/oui-lookup.html
esp8285 on the chip
@worldly sierra , I had a similar issue and think I fixed it with adding
denyinterfaces veth* to the end of dhcpcd.conf after reading this:
https://github.com/docker/compose/issues/7051
noice. wasn't sure if you had popped it open yet
1st thing i did,LOL
i was like, YOLO
ive had this controller for like 4 years and only used it for a month when i got it
lol
i hated the magic home shit
yeah, i think the LED controller i linked above was the first device i serial flashed with tasmota
oh nice!
so i opened a zigbee switch i had also
it has serial connections
WHAT CAN I DO WITH IT?
probably nothing
maybe read serial data when it's powered
but do not connect it to serial when connected to mains
which is the part about doing this magichome controller that throws me
is you keep it connected appearently?
what do you mean?
Documentation (Wiki) for Tasmota
well, that's 12VDC so that's different, but that's still weird... you should be good with just connecting it to 3V3 and GND
mk
not sure why they recommend powering it via the adapter
lol i just used the standard tasmota 9.5 bin i have been for everything, so far it says it's flashing
heck of a time trying to get gnd to wet with solder tho
That's usually the one you need except for some specific cases
and I obviously did something wrong with my setup. Can't connect to the controller ๐ฆ
I should probably do nicer solder points either way
What do you mean by can't connect?
esphome.py just times out. I suspect that I can't properly connect GPIO0 to ground on bootup. Since my hands suck, and the GPIO0 isn't connected to anything, so I'm trying to short it with a jumper cable
@scenic radish so i have found which pins do each color
but i cant get them to have a ui that works
Set them all as PWM 1 2 3 in the order of R G B
4
cant seem to get them to treat w as it's own channel
There's no slider for white: https://tasmota.github.io/docs/Lights/#4-channels-rgbw-lights
Documentation (Wiki) for Tasmota
What are you trying to do? In HA you can control RGB and white separately
nvm
i got it
all set
works like it should now
now to get HA working with it
so i can light up the room red when some shit happens
lol
@scenic radish any tips on making HA see it as rgb i can change? it comes up as toggles when auto discovered
nvm again
srry bud
lol
๐คฃ
You can kind of think of the white as saturation
To make pastel hues
Unlike esphome which is trash and treats white as a seperate device
surprised there's not a general chat in here. What I was curious about wasn't tech support, was just curious about soliciting some opinions.
I'm waffling over smart switches. ๐
Sure there is, that channel is mentioned in the channel topic here
unfortunately not made any difference. thanks though
โค๏ธ esphome
how dare you
Also make sure modem manager is disabled.
dont think that is installed. not using mobile
It is installed by default on most linux distros I believe
the pi docs talk about installing snap to run it, so doubt it (for pi, maybe others)
It was installed and enabled on my pi
I get ```$ mmcli
-bash: mmcli: command not found
well the conversation is around modem manager, so mm.
sudo systemctl status modemManager
Unit modemManager.service could not be found.
seems to me something around that network renaming / restarting is killing the network momentarily. Thought I could skirt around the issue by cross building on my main machine but not even been able to get that working
Any chance you are running bullseye, we should prob take this to #general-archived
What would be the best channel to ask about how to make your own integration for HA?
#integrations-archived or #developers, depending on what you feel like fits better for you. Or #general-archived if everything fails
And see the docs: https://developers.home-assistant.io/
Awesome thanks!! Iโm looking to build something to integrate a smart thermostat thatโs common in australia but brand new to this stuff so will probably need pointers
Gotta love IOT devices that are actually secure so you need to pretend to be their app to log into the Amazon MQTT lol
#devs_core-archived is the best channel for integration development TBH
Awesome! Will hit that up in the morning my time
Just ignore itโs technically the morning now being 2am haha
we need more raccoons up in here

should i be posting question to automations channel? is that what you're trying to tell me?
Yep
@stoic forge thanks
@trail crag did it before me
finally! I won!
I'm curious about what people are using https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/moon/ for
the only things I can come up with relate to lycanthropy
Hey! No speciesism!
I notify myself when it will be full moon in a couple days so I can get the camera ready. Can't see outside from the automation cave ๐

Is it a good, or a rabies idea to hug raccoons?
Burger or Thai?
I had burgers yesterday so Thai
Hi everyone,
Does someone know some downlights that I can use with home assistant?
#hardware-archived question?
A good rabies idea!
does anyone know how hue sync decides its colours? I am having issues getting the right one from a screenshot?
^
Anyhere here have experience with Ledvance Smart+ RGB WiFi bulbs? Can't pair that thing
Never seems to enter, according to the documentation, a blinking mode to indicate pairing
I have some of their RGB-Strips (under Osram brand), and had no issue with them. None of the bulbs though
Yeah I dont understand anything. When I turn them on they cycle through red, blue and green before going into steady white. If I understand the mayhem of documentation this means it is reset. But it never go into pairing, blinking white.
I am thinking of returning the bulbs, never had these kinds of issues with any other brand.
Does anyone have suggestions for a 15 watt, small powerbank to act as a UPS for a Pi? I saw some that are hybrid powesupply/powerbank but they are pricy and quite an overkill
I have a case for passive cooling so one of those underside thing won't work
@glacial knot fyi I got it to work, hot damn
Hm, shouting at people over zoom just isn't as statisfying as doing it on prem. Down with home office!
Does it need to be 15W only? I have https://www.amazon.de/iPosible-Powerbank-External-Battery-Capacity/dp/B07MKRTPTT/ and the price is ok. I have used it as battery for a pi before. So I can carry it between rooms and test things
I want to use homeassistant so bad.... but nothing I have integrates with it, I can't be the only person with this problem?
Thatโs a pretty rare situation. There are like 1800+ integrations, including general ones like MQTT
I have a bunch of Globe stuff(also re-branded bright) - light bulbs, pot lights, smart plugs, Fiet Electric dimmer switches, Swidget Outlet's + Sensors, some D-Link stuff, etc...
The only thing that I can seem to find integration for are my August locks and a few tp-link kasa switches. I have extensively read through the thread on the Feit Electric dimmer switches, but flashing them all isn't that appealing. All my stuff works with Google Home but that is sooo limited. ๐ฆ
Setup home assistant with the things you have. Before you know it you will be flashing what you have and buying all new stuff
I dunnooo.. I've been hoping for that to happen for probably 4 years lol... What is everyone using for lights & switches? I have close to 30 of the Fiet dimmer switches, and I don't know how many bulbs... I love love love the Swidget stuff & have invested so much (that actually works with z-wave now that I think about it)
Start small and let it grow over time
So, there is really not supposed to be any home assistant talk in here. Sounds like the people over in #hardware-archived would be a good start.
:D
xD
Lmao
Hey @everyone if you are based in San Francisco bay area. I'm looking to turn my house into a complete smart home. If you're interested to work with me on the project, let's talk.
did you just try to ping 10k users on this server?
nope, thankfully blocked on this server. @cloud reef, please don't ever do that

Is it cool if I DM it directly?
nah, name and shame, that's the protocol here
There's no support for Home Assistant here - please look at the other channels for that. If you can't work out which is relevant, start in #general-archived.
If it's a question about the HA Amber see #yellow-archived, and #330990055533576204 for the Blue. Install related problems go to your Installation Method channel.

Yeah, the "one server in common, user has never posted a message, a really generic user id and just sent a friend request and a DM" really should have led to me just auto-reporting, but I figured I'd at least confirm it was a scam.
it won't let me report him for some reason

What's the bandwidth of that station wagon
i see no firefly
There is only 63 10TB drives there @last cedar

630TB per something

Yo atx, back from you summer hibernation?
We had a question like that in a mock exam
Is it faster to use fiber, or should we just dump data onto disks, load them into a truck and drive them to the other location
The cutoff for trucks being more efficient is surprisingly quick
Imagine confusing storage with transfer
No need to transfer if all your data is replicated to every site
Don't think I've actually heard of anyone pushing data from one site to another outside of original replication
Either it is a site migration with all hardware or just regular multi site replication as a background task
The Amazon Snowball is probably made for those purposes for customers migrating to cloud with no proper original infrastructure in place and ridiculous data amounts
I mean CDNs exist to replicate data to every site (ish).
The end-to-end time to transfer up to 80 TB of data into AWS with Snowball Edge is approximately one week, including the usual shipping and handling time in AWS data centers.
so around 1058 Mbps

Next customer buys it and distributes to the dark web. Free backups and distribution
I'm so glad dark sites exist

Hi guys, i'm new to zigbee protocol and im very impressed by how homeassistant can easily detect zigbee devices and transform their raw message into meaningful message. I am developing a backend system which i would like to integrate this feature into our system where it can receive raw data from zigbee hub and translate them into information such as 'temperature' 'lighting'. Is there any possible way to do this ? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

I asked my norwegian friend why he came to Australia @clear ferry

After laying in a den in Bombay
With a snapped jaw and not much to say
I said do you speak my language
aren't Scandinavians like, the most fluent non-native English speakers in the world
Your statement is true for people under about 40 in Sweden which is when they made English mandatory in schools, many in the older group know very little or no english at all.
I think the dutch are also pretty good English speakers
You can always spot a Dutch or Swedish person by accent
As well as a Dane
Let's not bring the Finns into this....
Accent is one thing, but speaking the language reasonably fluent is the case
English is a mother tongue for most of the Scandinavian countries yes, the constant bad English speakers are the countries who still do dubbing of everything, like French, German, Italian, Spanish, and the Slavs mostly just avoid English
English is mandatory in ours schools as well
People still donโt speak it
Someone gotta feed those local VAs
A lot of hollywood movies are swedish dubbed in Sweden (perhaps most targeted to kids age range). Fun fact, they also have a long history of changing the names of films (not even a direct translation in many cases). https://www.imdb.com/list/ls066297426/ I've been told of one instance where they renamed a movie to what became the actual name of a later movie in the series, don't recall the movie though.

Still having wifi issues on my Mac mini, any recommendations for wifi USB dongles that work with Ubuntu?
I want to build an intercom system but not sure where to start.

Ask if they like koldskรฅl

I'd like to get a Dutch bike
That sounds like a euphemism
Vs typical bike in Aus/NA
Nothing hipster about it
For what I need a bike for a Dutch bike is a way better option
I remember having a bike in 2002, only bikes I see these days are electric
I don't have to kick my toddler in the head when I swing my leg over the bike
Upright means comfort and superior traffic visibility
Chain guards and fenders mean not getting mud on my work clothes
Also inbuilt wheel lock for quick stops
Like dutch oven?

wtf. Surely that can't be a thing even in a backwards country like Norway...
Bicycles are pretty great. Often get you from A to B faster than a car and you avoid getting fat at the same time. Win-win
Only people I know who use bikes are either hipsters or 50yo men who compete once a year and are managing directors

Biking to commute, go shopping etc is fairly common around here which I very much approve of. Hard to get why you wouldn't want to tbqh
its hard to understand when your infrastructure is not built to murder cyclists at every opportunity like in NA
Oh sure, I get why it isn't a thing in the US. The urban planning is just awful even compared to ours

would anyone here be interested in a Kodi addon that could expose HA entities into Kodi? I'm thinking of something so you could toggle entities from a shortcut inside there or a widget of various sensors. maybe show camera feeds in the Kodi player, etc
Anyone here running valetudo? Any idea what the best options for locally controlled robot vacuums with minimal fuss are currently? I've looked at valetudo, but it's unclear to me what models it can be installed on simply as of today.
I've currently got a wyze robot vacuum that I'm controlling from HA, but it's cloud dependent
those are just basic hooks and ui elements to trigger them or scripts / a playlist with your camera stream
basically depends on your kodi setup, you can even install a webbrowser in kodi and browse to HA
Maybe
@dusky plank I don't know of a still working web browser addon.
aside from that, it would definitely just be hooks to the rest API, but something that brings them into Kodi in a more "first class" way, so they could be easily accessible in Kodi's own UI
Well one of my leak sensors just came in handy. Something blocked the utility sink drain while the washer was running and the sink filled up completely and started spilling onto the floor. Thankfully it was almost all directed into the floor drain
When a leak is detected I have notifications sent to my phone via multiple services and select lights around the house flash blue
the "make a light flash a color for a notification" is a great type of automation and I intend to implement as many as I can think of so I'll be adding this one once I get some leak sensors
have you found any way around the problem of it leaving your lights the wrong color when they flash a color from off (I make a temporary scene as is)
Am I missing something? I just set the value on every light.turn_on
A temporary scene is the way to go
yeah, scene.create with snapshot_entities is what i use to record the previous light states
that's pretty much the only time i ever use scenes
but if the scene I create has lights that are off those lights retain the color from the notification instead of what they were before they were turned off
The point of a dynamic scene is that it takes a snapshot of what the state and attributes were and allows you to restore it
I guess the color isn't an attribute while the bulb is off or something then
i think i'm confused about the problem
If it was off, it will turn it back off
the only solution I came up with is worse than just changing the color manually in my opinion and its turning on the lights then capturing the statew
i'm now super paranoid about the washer ๐
if my lights were off then the leak happened for example they would be blue the next time I used them
ah yeah, you just have to be careful to specify a color temp/color then in each service call that they're used in
jumping to #automations-archived if further discussion is wanted ๐
Does all the lights turn red when you burn your toast?
Anyone have tips on a ZigBee wall switch to replace the ordinary lamp switches? I am getting sick of guests killing my smart lamps by cutting their power.

or a simple bit of tape
Now I just need to have object detection on the "donation boxes" so I dont have to open the door
Facial recognition doesn't recognize random people at your doorstep? Disappointing
I get a image on my phone whenever someone approaches my door anyway, so I know if I should bother opening before the ring the doorbell thankfully
yeah me too, just didnt have my phone next to me
so how useful is that frigate thing really? Seeing it here all the time I feel like getting a cam and the accelerator, just to play with it D:
I use the lutron Aurora dimmers in two rooms
frigate is very accurate to detect objects
Frigate and coral that is
with double take it is very good at faces
I just want to track my movements in my flat and turn on the lights of the rooms I'm walking to ๐
Just use Bluetooth triangulation
I think everyone is going to do room detection since LTT is doing it
not enough base stations
nah, I had the idea for a bit longer. But never felt like actually getting it done. But I added some more motion sensors, and now I want to 1up it and detect myself before I enter the room
For the BT variant, it could be interesting to base it on the "wifi looking through walls" paper work o.0
If you have the hardware and the WAF the frigate and face detection is not a bad idea, though then you need to have cameras on when you are home something I would not have inside
waf?
Wife/Partner/Husband acceptance factor
ahhh
easy. I live alone
but now I wonder if I should actually play with just EM-beacons and readers at the walls to detect water bags in the space
If you are alone sound detection can also be accurate. db meters are cheap and very accurate
and then it'll activate when my neighbours downstairs are loud as fuck again D:

Added a new automation that you guys might find cool!
When someone texts me a variant of "On my way" or a variant of that message ("J'arrive", "OMW", "Je suis en route") through messenger,
Home Assistant sends me an actionable notification with two options: https://i.imgur.com/Puf3lMT.png
Welcome them: Which triggers the "Waiting someone" condition, which enables the door AI to auto-unlock the lock when a friend is ringing using a camera in the door.
Welcome And Register:
This one is a bit more complex, upon pressing this one, you soon receive a next serie of notification, asking for a Name and an URL to a publicly available image: https://i.imgur.com/Xn7MI6x.png & https://i.imgur.com/ZgoOvGI.png
This is then ingressed into Double-take to add the new face/person to the system: https://i.imgur.com/OKDidL1.png
And finally, the condition "Waiting someone" is enabled.
The whole thing was a massive pain that took 2 days to set up, but it is now working at an acceptable level after many tests with guests.
What do you guys think!?

I'd have to ever have people over for this to have any benefit D:
One of my ex partners had to spend at least 10 hours in front of that camera for when I was initially testing the facial-reco

Yea, guessed right. But it has a forced guess :/
@last cedar
Too accurate
hit alittle too close to home eh?
lol what
I'm trying to help my friend update from an "Unhealthy Supervisor"
I remember seeing a forum post with instructions, but because the forums are down, I don't know what the steps are.
so is there a good motion sensor people like?
1 costume, 2 holidays!
@last cedar https://www.instagram.com/reel/CUgNAAyIIPN/
Hey!
It looked like a proper mess, before
Thatโs what my power consumption looks like when both AC units kick in
how do I get it to show the last there? I need that ๐
this happens to be the 240v electric heater in the garage, went out there for a quick project and forgot ๐ฌ
You should write an automation to alert you about forgetting to turn it off.
or put it on a smart plug and auto turn off after say 45 minutes
Or better. That turns it off for you
Show off. Having 2 acs
@gray root where is the data coming from? Also, keep it vague, otherwise we need to move channel
But I have 3
:/
I barely have electric
And all you show offs with your fancy acs
Actually looking at a ftx ventillation system now
About 80k sek installed
Another 30k sek for a cooling unit (180m2) with insulation etc.
Much cheaper than 3 acs
Ooof
With ftx it can be sealed, and no draughts
How did you video my house?
But it will be good when it is done. Won't waste heat from bathroom/ utility room either. And can get proper insulation, vapour barriers and low u value windows
Gonna be able to heat the whole house by farting 3 times
Zzz getting up at 5.30 tomorrow for a morning flight, wake me @last cedar

hello guys... somebody has used some sort of prediction with a variable in HA?? for example i want to apply something like linear prediction to stats variable that has the power consumer of my home... to get the predicted consume of the month
??
Just opened a bulb up, pic in #diy-archived can u flash that with tas?
ha.. ha... hahahahah in a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar future can be...
welll, i will develop a HA plugin then...
Consumers can read real-time data from an online port
i have a OpenCollector in my device... but that doesnt have a prediction model
USA USA
we are soo behind... its not even funny
Hey awesome people!
Could you help me out? For my thesis, I am researching different types of notifications on smartwatches and I'm looking for participants. You don't have to own a smartwatch, you only have to be 18 years or older. I would really appreciate it if you filled out this survey, you would help me out a ton! :)
anyone know a good discord for 3d printing? My CR Touch is being an ass right now
The octoprint discord has a lot of good people @ashen kayak
I got a fiat 500 ev rental today @last cedar , just room enough for 1.5 people and a dismembered tiny person
so you had to ride on the roof?
I bet atxs head is sticking out of the sunroof
Oh you want to expire my cert every 24 hours and make me reload the integration to get a new one? Fuck you shark!
hey, is anyone aware of a cheap wifi/zigbee switch with power monitoring (like sonoff pow) but in a smaller form factor (like sonoff mini or aqara t1)?
That's a #hardware-archived topic ๐
ah, thanks, missed it
Hello
"Came to the wrong hood motherfucker" - Donald 2021
nice.

Being paid for having to watch Anime sounds about right
I'll try to make some test drive
I had the mini 500 ev today
And I had the VW id3 last week
And the polestar 2 a month ago
Wonder what car I will get at the rental next week
Nah, small
The mini 500 was horribly cramped but fun to drive
The id3 was comfy and good to drive
The polestar 2 is shit
Tried Renault Zoe?
Really?last dosen of my cars was french.
Except Volvo and Uaz i had mostly PSA cars, or Ford's with PSA diesel engines
I hate German cars
why would you hate french cars?
They feel plastic and cheap and they drive like shit
I had some Golfs, Passats and so, but they had wooden blocks instead of suspension springs
Passats Are eeeh, golfs can be ok, especially GTi or gtes, the golf2 GTi was wonderful
C5 with hydraactive is most confortable car in the world. Trust me, I'm an mechanic
I think Alpine is french
I'll take the Audi A8 with magnetic suspension or the XC90 with four-c please
I had Golf2 once, but it wasn't even close to GTI
isn't Bugatti also from france?
Bugatti is owned by vag
It was
XC90 from Chinese company Volvo?
Yes the Chinese are Hella lot better at building cars than the Americans for example
Just look at the tesla model s Vs 3
I like the aussie ones
it's like if it makes it into the country it's converted to 4x4
Do the Americans still builds car with leaf-spring suspension?
most likely
And engines with power about 2.5 HP per liter?
I couldn't even tell you what current vehicles have these days lol been too long since I looked at any of them and the last car we bought was a Subaru lol
But I'm actually looking to buy the XC90 right now
Just looking for the right one @fallow karma
I don't know which is right novadays
Dunno which engines are durable
ew volvo. over priced
Fuel is overpriced
Free at most offices here, plus cheap at shopping centers
And a home box is easy to install
Meh, I live in block housing
And when 80% of all cars sold are either electric or hybrid, there are a lot of charging stations
Not here
I work as EV specialist at dealership, and we have only ONE station , those in workshop
Lol
I suppose when every house will install charge station, our energetic net will colapse
BTW most of energy in our country is make by burning coal
92% hydro here now I think
So electric cars aren't eco at all
But electricity is really expensive now
It used to be โฌ0.003 per kWh, now it is โฌ0.3
I want to see ocean wave power
Think we are trying that out
electricity on the US west coast is super-expensive, but we have lots of sun and waves and wind in many places
70 % electric energy is from coal in my country. In 2019 it was 79
Solar panels aren't too expensive here
But I can't be bothered
$15k to cover my roof
With state subsidies
Yeah it's ~.3 $/kWh here in California
In some countries railways operators are back to diesel locomotives , they're cheaper than electric right now
if I get an electric car, I'm going to wish that I'd up-sized my solar array that I installed 8 years ago
I installed AC since then, so I already use more than I anticipated
I won't bother with an ev until at least three more years, even with the 50% state subsidiaries
I won't bother with an EV until charge time will same as refuel gas
You might be waiting quite a while the energy flow in a gas nozzle is very large
It is 35 minutes to fast charge most EVs these days
Which is good enough
15 minutes to 80% on some I think
On Kangoo ZE which has about 100km range ๐
God, 800V where to obtain it?
We've had them here since 2019
Ok , EV is an option, when you have a house with solar, or something, not when you live in east/middle EU in block housing, and in your city there are 2 public chargers on the map
Just have a smaller roof
๐ฆด ๐ท
solar panels these days are pretty cheap by the looks of it if you do it yourself
In Norway ofc it's continuous rain instead of seeing the sun so it could be different
@clear ferry
See lots
you guys should just build those above road trolly power lines and then stick a Back to the Future rod on your cars to make the connection and that way you don't need to stop to charge
They did think about implementing wireless charging under the asphalt
I agree pantograph wires are the best
But I think they dropped that
wireless charging is extremely wasteful especially when talking about transit
12 in my area, but have to drive 15km to nearest station, charge , then 15 back. And don't have any other reason to drive there
I'll wait for hydro fuel cell cars ;)
We had zero or little bit above
But our national petrol company announced they will build in biggest cities.
So, Toyota Mirai?
One of my favourite Japanese words
OMG
They are substantially less bad than a new ICE only car. But yes. We should all walk everywhere. Whilst not breathing, whilst naked, to keep carbon footprint low.
I need to get my cousin to sit in such a car. I bet he can actually look out the sunroof
easy for you to say you have fur
And doormats
don't move .Moving takes energy
I am all for reducing carbon footprints and energy consumption, will have own charging point and a hybrid soon (car has been ordered)
Kinda sucks that we have so little sun in Sweden, can't be self sufficient with only panels
I would love to do that tbh
Looking at panels and battery setup. Will cost about 20% of what the house cost :/
Use about 13 to 15kWh a day, at the moment. Will be more like 30 to 32 with car charging, requires a monster array and battery setup
can't escape global warming so carbon footprints is a mute point
i say go out with a bang
@last cedar where are you in sweden? I'm in northen Skรฅne o/
Sรถdermanland
Batteries are a very pointless expense unless your goal is to be 100% off grid with a cabin in the woods. Use the grid as a battery where you feed in during the day and use at night. Almost always the cost difference will be less than battery maintenance
as long as net metering survives thats true
but even with massive battery array you are replacing every 5-10 years, regardless of use.
Indeed
A colleage gave about 50k sek
They normally just make it to midnight on battery power
But his house pulls 1,4kW just idle, electric heating and ftx etc
50k is a lot of electric
yep. if you use 15kw you need minimum 30kw as you can only use 50%. Then account for a couple rainy days and you realise you have about 5 minutes tops on a bad day with a 500,000kr battery array ๐
I could probably manage with that to live off grid 1)during summer 2)not charging car
And only then
or oversize the array and only charge in the light
car could be an emergency battery store
It is only a hybrid, 13kW
are there any cars that support that yet?
go sit at a super charger for a couple hours to drive home and make a coffee
13kWh?
Yes. Skoda iv
thats a small battery how far does it take you
seems overall the environmental damage from creating batteries will kill any benifit you gain from a "off-grid" in-town setup.
Yes @worldly sierra
the actual power grid is just to efficient especially if you signed up with full solar supplier
@pure tundra 55km is official spec. It is coming around christmas, so will be interesting to see how it fares in the winter
I just switched to IKEA power ๐ (https://www.ikea.com/se/sv/clean-energy/electricity/)
Please come visit and || bring me some hard drives ||
I'll send unsolicited disk pics
55km. hmmm I don't know what that car looks like but I doubt that it will get close to that
Colleages get about 55 from theirs, during summer
I had a pzev that said it would get "40km" it never one came close
Hoping for maybe 40 on coldest winter days
Probably closer to 30 though
Anything not using petrol is a bonus
commutes 120km each way :/
Mmm, problem is I need tools and stuff with me, got 3 tool bags and a belt and all sorts of supplies with me. I could take the train if I didn't have those though
So I am kinda stuck with commuting in the car
Bonus is that 2 kids travel with me all the way, so we travel for 1/3 the "energy" we could
just use the pair of wire stripers nature gave your face
Insulation tastes funny, not going to do that again
ouch
I'm fine
biting wires that might have voltage across them is just more fun
It isn't a lot of volts
90v I believe
But god do you regret it when it gets you ๐คฃ
The resting 50V ish is bad enough
all I remember is that it was surprisingly high last time I looked
I think it is usually 90 to 100V when calling
See
It has to be
To stop raccoons eating the cable
But yeah. Gonna invest battery money into panels, eventually
Ftx comes first, sorting out the outside of the house, windows etc
Maybe 2023 or 24
Depends on cash flow
Could probably borrow and tag on to loan, as it increases value of house
You are far better at that, than me, Atx
I already got 10% since May, think I have used up this years quota ๐คฃ
I'm wary of doing that because they could decide to end net metering and then it wouldn't ever pay itself off
You will end up earning more than Elon, with how you are going
I am in the wrong line of work, clearly
Yesssss
I should make about 414k without overtime if I am not sick :)
So I clearly need to steal more doormats
they should have known what would happen when they hired Newman
That isn't entirely accurate. jurassic world had an entire command center full of IT people and still the dinos ate everyone
guess a chicken nugget still taste like a chicken nugget no matter how much schooling it's had
true true
Oooh! Microsoft PowerToys 0.35 runs on windows 1809 (corporate) and actually has Fancy Zones support!
That seems to be pretty much the only function that works, though. But also the only function I actually wanted...
I am so glad they got the flux led integration working with current bulbs
Flux ๐คข
can't beat the price for what you get
I thought you meant the shitty f.lux integration
flux led is the magicled stuff ?
I binned those a few years ago
yea the magichome stuff uses the flux led intergration
and it's been brokered for like forever for the current stuff. worked just enough to turn on/off lights and set color through less than ideal ways but now it works as it should
magichome stuff is all esp chips as well, so most gave up on flux and threw tasmota or esp on them lol
I had three bulbs and one hub, just shucked them
and replaced them with zigbee bulbs
but the bulbs I have reaching one of the gpios was near impossible so I didn't bother flashing mine
should have kept them, maybe found use for them down the road or something
stop using "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" for everything ya goober
you prob are just using a scam bank located in china disguised as a us bank
I'm pretty sure Citi is a murica company
I mean New York isn't really "American" since it's always been a global hub
they added bluetooth to the shelly 1's heh
Since the old Shelly1 is esp8266, that would surely mean it is a new model
The Shelly Plus 1 ?
yea they using the esp32's now
I mean I know it has it regardless but just seems silly for a shelly 1 to have it
don't see a use unless you like created a mesh bluetooth network or something
not really, you can install esphome or any custom firmware on them
and use the BT bits for whatever you want
like triangulation or controlling other bluetooth devices in proxmity
thats about it
Just had a discussion with a german about their horrid latency from ISPs
had to check mine

How dare physics add latency to a link across the Atlantic.
how do you call in English that plastic&metal wire cable..tie thing? You know that wire with a plastic wrap that comes on every new electronics related cable to keep it looped tight
this thing
tie wrap is valid
I've never known how to call them and I'm making labels for all my tiny parts and accessories, thanks a bunch
I've heard it called tie wire too
twisty tie in amercian english
Pro tip 1) don't eat yellow snow
Pro tip 2) use a used toilet roll to keep cables tidy
Not a cable tie
BOG ROLL
Same as some australian banks, not unique to the USA
(Which is surprising given how good our banking sector otherwise is)
@clear ferry ROLL TIDE
๐ถ ๐ถ
We've had MFA with hardware tokens for 20+ years in Norway
Lucky. Some banks offer 2FA through their apps here, others rely on a text message when you transfer money to a new recipient or over a certain amount, and some don't have any protection
These days we mostly just do biometric
Most banks do let you set secure passwords, though I've seen on bank force passwords to lowercase, and another restrict between 6-8 alpha-numeric characters (no symbols). I do not bank with the last bank for that reason :lul:
How does that work
Ah yeah even in the app we often require a code before transferring to a new recipient
Then if another level is needed I need to enter my pin on a generated passphrase handshake, it all happens in the phone
(Or sometimes voice too, saying "my voice confirms my identity")
Still have to do the voice stuff when I use American services
Haven't used that here since the 90s
i'm in the US and i've never seen voice confirmation
