time its always that problem, had to take the week off to work on this gardenhouse else it would not be doable
my employer is even giving me free days for every 3 days off i take they pay 1
wooo nice
I have 60 holiday days left this year, but I don't have time to use them anyway ๐คฃ
i called my manager about 1 hour before i was suppose to go work that i would be gone the whole week
its all fine he said \o/
yeah, I haven't told my managers I would be gone from work for.... 13 years
they just trust I know what I'm doing
๐คฃ
i guess its a bit the same for me just company policies that are in the way
there super flexible
woooo, my zigbee2mqtt config is now on github
Company policies are written for the idiots usually ๐
yes
Like the policy that says that beachwear is not suitable for office casual ๐คฆ
I had a panic yesterday about the host not booting
@clear ferry i know that feeling
bikinis in the office you say @clever mortar ? the mental images of all those hairy old men ๐คข
lol
You jest...
But alas
hairy old man in bikinis with strings (try to take that mental picture away)
Challenge accepted ๐
lol
https://github.com/atxbyea/zigbee2mqtt I need to cleanup some more though ๐คฃ
๐
whats this language you write in there
then it makes sense why it sorta looks dutch/german sometimes
Klootzak!
lol
I work with a lot of Dutch people
not sure if thats a good or bad thing ๐
Let's say, I work with a lot of different people and pick up a lot of words, and I enjoy languages, so I understand and speak a few
to bad the covid thing screwed up my whole summer else norway would have been on the list of places to go after bornhack (DK)
ใใฎ้ณฅใงใใ
we love Scandinavia when i grow up i guess moving somewhere there is a good plan ๐
as long as its far away from the big cities ๐
we don't have a big country ๐
but somewhere below the pole circle and not to close to a city
last time i was there i had quite a issue with the 24h sun
Worked in a data centre over winter one year... 24 hours of darkness week on week is something I'd rather avoid doing again
The good thing about working at military customers is even if I am on the 10th floor I have no idea if it is raining or sunshine outside
yeh i can't go without a bit of sun
At least you're not in Australia, where the other question would be fire storms ๐

Need the hydro dams to power all those full spectrum lights
soooooo ive got an idea for an automation and i dont know where to start
i want to tell my voice asisstant i lost "blank" then it would start a timer for 15 minutes
after that timer is done i get a notification on my phone or voice asking if i found it. if yes its over if no it adds it to a "trying to find list"
.....ok now you can call me dumb @clever mortar hahahaha
I don't call anybody dumb
I simply provide enough material for folks to label themselves ๐
hahahaha thats the best way to do it!
(there are enough channels here that folks seem to struggle - don't know why, but it's pretty common)
(well i should have looked for a specific channel but im actually new to discord)
hallo zusamme n wie kann ich Samba in Hassio unter Win10 einrichten?
#330944238910963714 @midnight adder (and English please)
kann kein English dann muร ich raus
Installing hassio on windows 10
NEIN

But yes, reaching samba would be problem free
Well, it's possible
With the aid of a VM, or by wiping Windows off the system ๐
Well, yes
Why anybody wants to run a server on a desktop operating system is beyond me
Ubuntu server isn't that bad
I mean, it's a long way to go before it's as reliable as FreeBSD, but it's still a baby ๐
I have a love/hate relationship with systemd though. It's convenient, sure, but ... not very unix ๐
@hushed basalt Update on shonky wiring, household wiring is even worse, going to involve energy board using speaker wire for 32amp oven
Thatโs... not good
I think one issue with systemd is it wants to do everything, like it even has a bootloader. I like it though it works and is easy and well supported
I wish I was a sparky so I could do electrical work around the house. But Iโm glad we have strict requirements for that stuff
yes its not great. I see a lot of DIY work though, (I used to work in Bunnings (electrical) ) as a kid and everyday some guy would ask me how to rewire his house, like seriously if you are asking a 14 year old how to rewire your house maybe just maybe don't do it?
Yeah I always get a professional and I find a good one is worth their weight
I don't but I have a grade D electrical license and qualified electrical engineer, means nothing in eyes of law and I could be charged for doing my own electrical wiring but I know AS3000 back to front and I work on mining sites where we deal with 140kw Pumps
I thought electrical engineers were allowed to do personal house wiring? Maybe that's a state law thing.
depends on the state
Or country
That too, but the D electrical licesnes is the USAs version of a license
unless europe has that too, but that'd be weird because no one copies us because we're evil
Electrical Engineers in Australia can't do anything, I need 5 years more of training before I can touch a live cable.
@rare condor my friend is a linesman
Works on stuff in the 5 figure voltage range
Can't legally change a plug on a lamp
you need 3.5-7 years experience in NY for it
and a bachelors in any engineering field
i'm half way there
I recently bought 12kv gloves
yay ๐ Hostname home-assistant System Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
why not debian?
newer stuff
I switched from ubuntu to debian, some functionality on the hardware is gone (that i didn't use) but the cpu usage, temperature, disk memory dropped a ton
I run debian on 60% of VMs
40% ubuntu where I want something specific that debian doesn't offer
yes
I often meet a few of the Canonical folk who're based in London. Turns out they get very cranky when you describe Ubuntu as Debian with Training Wheels ๐
my last install of ubuntu corrupted the dns settings and I was unabled to update anything. I couldn't fix it either because I needed to update a package. I was in a circular issue so I just moved to debian
It really isn't though ubuntu has newer packages, I find it annoying when I have to enable lot of packages from testing and mess around to get software in last 3yrs
How does an oven even run on speaker wire
It was painful updating deluge on ubuntu 20.04, has bugs in stable at the moment and dev has broken TLS 1.1 immplementation
@rare condor For the most part for a lot of services which you want to run in a stable fashion, old isn't always bad. As a bonus, Debian's release cycle has gotten pretty good.
Yah, that's partly why I opted towards debian because it's stable
I can sacrifice WIFI because my setup is hardwired
so, debian it is
Also, the Canonical folk are a decent bunch who I usually meet when they're buying beers, so the jesting is in fun.
Last time I met them, outside of FOSDEM, we were on this: https://www.watercressline.co.uk/product.php/139/real-ale-train-rat ๐
Enjoy a fantastic night out on our famous Real Ale Train serving real ale from a restored bar carriage pulled by steam locomotive.
I moved to debian
For my kubernetes nodes
Didn't really change much, seemed to have less issues getting them up
All that's on the OS is just enough to run k8s anyways
@hushed basalt I worked at Box Hill Bunnings in Melbourne which is predominantly Han Chinese region, a lot of new Australian's with different cultural backgrounds. It was very common place for this clientele to buy cable that was 1mm smaller or speaker cable if it saved a few dollars, cable is generally over rated, 2.5mm can easily handle 27amps without heating. So if the oven was 30 amps they would buy 1mm speaker cable to save costs, the cable would get hot but it would not burn out. Ultimately I could only advise and give feedback if someone wanted to risk burning their house down that was at there digression. The issue in my context was a lot of people did the same practice back home without issue and saw Australia's Electrical code as overbearing so just ignored it and did whatever was cheap.
It's crazy
You're saving like $200/hr for an electrician
Just buy a decent mm2 cable
If I could get people to at least consider their safety and hire a licensed electrician it was a good day.
What's " funny" is not only can they kill the occupants
I will always remember one Indian guy bring in his lamp and he had used his Christmas lights as wiring, I was laughing so much as it was comically bad.
But anyone working on the telecoms network
Even in the exchange 5km away (before fttn)
@hushed basalt What are your thoughts on not been allowed to make Cat5e Patch cables under new ACMA rules and basically no unlicensed work for home LAN?
Yeah it's a bit silly
well the justification is exactly what you said
I'm a registered cabler so I'm okay but it's like a zero risk thing as long as they're not inducing or connecting to mains voltage
Or there's some seriously faulty equipment
But yeah it's silly
I wish I was registered, I wired my own Ethernet and I am worried I will void my home contents because of it but I can't justify paying someone to wire ethernet ๐
Speaking of power
My daughter turned off the power to her google mini and cot camera
Clever girl
you would think with all that is going on the pi foundation would have lit a fire under the goal of bringing usb boot to the rpi4
i wish the pi had native PoE power support
@hushed basalt https://media.giphy.com/media/WNJdVoZw7gcXt5c7d4/giphy.gif
@forest edge what is going on exactly?
So, I am trying to configure my linuxserver/letsencrypt docker to send e-mail using exim4 outside the docker on the host. I have exim4 listening and relaying for both 172.17.0.1 and 172.18.0.1. My guess is that is the actual docker ip and the docker bridge ip but I have no clue. Now, I am pretty sure I have to set an environmental variable in my docker-compose? I have no idea how to do that or even if I am on the right track. Fail2ban logs list errors about unable to send email to 127.0.0.1 - connection refused๐ค
Both ways need to bind to the Docker gateway IP as in 172.17.0.1, 172.18.0.1 and so on.
Firewall and system settings like IPv4 forward might interfer anyway
@clear ferry
The game.
@boreal pewter , I guess it just took posting in here to get it to work. I was able to modify send mail-common.local and it is working at least for jail start/stops. No sure if the exim4 mail settings played a role yet. Now that it is working I can go back later and tweak stuff
ok i got my zwave stick in. how do i pass it through to the ha docker container in unraid? ive passed through usb and gpu's into VM's but i dont see any option in the docker container settings for ha
I'd ask in #672217570283094017
Hello, i don't know if this is the best place, but ... EJS or PUG? What are your opinions / experiences? ๐
I prefer WTF myself
@tidal bronze still collecting data?
@last dirge did you get the sw update for traffic lights yet?
pretty sure that's specific to HW3 cars
Crap
I'm on 2020.12.5
2020.8.3 for me
Hello - converted from openhab to hassio. Thanks in advance - never used discord before. Is this like AOL do i need to a/s/l before we chat?
Usually best not to dox yourself on the internet
just make sure you check the channels list for anything that sounds like what you may want to talk about before posting in here
or you'll feel the wrath of @clever mortar
@last dirge great! thanks for the heads up
Country can be helpful for device questions though
It says no update available.
I had to reset my car to get my previous update. That was in wait state for a few weeks. Maybe I got bumped down. I used to get fast updates.
@last dirge yes. Haven't looked at it probably tomorrow.
@last plaza did you bad mouth musk on Twitter?
@tidal bronze everything I've found says those sensors are pretty useless for detecting soil moiisture unless you do the sampling
I am not going to go that nuts. I mostly want to check application efficiency
@wet pilot I donโt have Twitter account to begin with ๐
@tidal bronze from what I read if it gets wet it takes a LONG time to dry out and report reasonable numbers
I am looking at sprinkler log vs variance. I don't need exact numbers.
Still dialing in 3x time increase with rotators
0.39/inch application rate Vs 1.2/inch is all I am interested
Real test will start in the summer so will be in a back burner
BTW drawing up mini solar boxes so with stakes so I can put them in different locations. 1 hr update rate
@real trench It's ok, I'm only grumpy with idiots. Or on days ending in y ๐ค
I'm only grumpy every day, except florpday
Speaking of idiots, stores running out of Clorox. People are self injecting to cure covid.
@last dirge been testing esp deep sleep. Many possibilities ๐
what are you using to interrupt?
Hopefully that will increase iq levels in the long run.
https://tasmota.github.io/docs/DeepSleep/ @last dirge
@clever mortar Ha- I'll try not to test your patience. ๐บ have this just in case ๐
Well, in that case... I'll cut you some slack ๐
6v
@last plaza hopefully Darwin will make the country livable
@tidal bronze I set a wake up of 5 second, that was a poor idea while testing, didn't have time to change config before it fell asleep again
@shy comet look what ledfx making me do. Running 2nd strip so dedicated bass response ๐
@last plaza did you file form 8911 for your charger installation?
I didnโt. I got $7500 tax break when I got the car. Didnโt file anything specific to charger installation
looks like they recently made that form retroactively available back to 2018
Besides, I spent like $300 for electrician. Not very expensive - usually the unit costs less, installation costs more
The electrician installed extra panel, ran 60amp cables from basement, installed 220v outlets and a few more outlets for power tools in my garage - all for $300. I am super happy with my handy man.
it includes any equipment, even the charger
so that's 30% of $800
might look at getting a wall connector this year then
Iโm checking out face masks online, of course no stock anywhere still. But some of them claim they had, looks expensive. I wonder whatโs the normal price for simple face masks? Like 50pcs pack?
Obviously I donโt want to order from China ๐
N95 masks are usually $2-4 each depending on features
I have a few at home... not sure where I got them
Anyone tried this? https://medium.com/the-smarter-home/smart-bed-7de9ad55276e
@tidal bronze has had that for years
Not that exactly. Those were load sensors. I have them too.
This looks like DIY load or pressure sensors
Oh, different concept
I have this... did it last year or so.
@clear ferry what ?
Hwath
If you are going to do it, at least get the strawberry flavor!
Iโm sure all the comedians are itching to get back!
And writers! Weโre missing all the fun!
Hey Hey! Quick question, which channel is most appropriate for questions on the ghome <-> HA link?
#voice-assistants-archived if you're using google_assistant
@clear ferry you asked what i wanted from hass a climate with analog output would be nice (so that one can send 0-100% to the boiler based on the difference between room temp and setpoint)
That shouldn't be hard
i guess i could write a automation to do that
uh oh Kim Jung-un might have croaked
12 hours ago called @forest edge

We'll know for sure in a week I guess
His sister looks mean though
Hi - Does someone here have experience with Unifi components ?
@clear ferry you say you called Kim 12 hours ago?
#integrations-archived for integrations @midnight adder
@clever mortar: I thought more in the sense of infrastructure and network design ...
Then that would have been good to include ๐
And, as always, ask the question... then folks will know if they can help
I want my smart home and IoT stuff on a separate Wifi for security reasons. I can of course get additional routers and some bridge / firewall to connect those, but that sounds tedious. Would Unifi simplify this ?
Any router and access point that supports VLANs can do that
UniFi are just one that's relatively cheap, integrated, and point-n-click
Point and click
my house is three stories high and a simple access point does not cover everything. So I need something that gives me various access points. I now use a netgear mesh but it does not offer vlans.
There's a wide range of options there, if you want GUI managed Unifi is probably the cheapest
I don't mind the GUI if I can manage as code. Are there any cheaper alternatives without GUI?
Mikrotik
thanks, never heard of, will do some research
If your only goal is to segregate IoT traffic, any 10yo access points connected to a switch that supports vlans and a 10 year old laptop with pfsense or similar will achieve that too tbh
Yup
Then keep the Netgear mesh for your regular devices
but then I need to run a set of APs for regular devices and IoT each, right ?
There's a lot of low end APs that do VLANs
so many radio waves the popcorn cooked itself in the cabinet
Yeah, but in my three storey house I wouldn't notice if I had 4 or 10 access points tbh
They are all hidden on shelves, in walls, behind stuff anyway
Thatโs a new emoji @forest edge
atx cherry nauseated lol
that is a cherry
@clear ferry new houses are multi level here., a new fashion/trend. They all need multiple a/c units outside.
Norwegian houses have been mostly 3 for the last 30 years
Basically you pay more for the same square footage, and you have to go up and down a lot. ๐คฃ
Newer ones are four usually
I am good with 2-story ones. I may even move into a ranch with smaller house and bigger garage.
Found 2 snakes in my yard. Picked it up and dumped them in the drain, so they canโt crawl back up. Hate seeing snakes in my yard
I am good with moles, squirrels and deer but not snakes.
Watched that movie, for some reason the snakes didnโt look real. Too much CGI but not realistic
@last dirge flower bed... may 15 is when we will plant. Built that 10 years ago.
I prefer 2 story houses, but I would like a bigger house, currently I have 2700sqft but would like 4000 ish
Or more
Mine is around 3800 sq ft including fully finished basement.I prefer smaller house. Too much maintenance.
I prefer 2 story houses
you say that now, but that will change lol
Once you grow old, stairs will be your enemy.
you'll be racing your grandkids to the top in your stairlift chair lol
Unless you get one of these
Something like this would be acceptable with three story https://www.finn.no/149511145
top floor looks cold lol
How much is 11 000 000 kr in freedom currency?
Divide by 10 roughly
a lot ๐
1 mil. Not bad for the location and size of the house.
if I spend that much I don't want neighbors
Same size house with same style up north would be 50% of the price
Or the HOA @forest edge
lol i wouldn't even look at the house if someone even muttered hoa lol
Itโs all about location. Shitty houses in California and New York costs ten times compared to Ohio.
hoa neighborhoods and homes here don't look bad etc but screw the concept of paying for something that someone else has so much power and say over
Yup
neighbors are like folk country singers or something, sounds like someone strangling yak when i walk outside
so you adopted a love for hardcore or some other sort of loud music sort
i once tried to automate a nocking device to troll my upstairs neighbors if they where making noise at night but it turned out to hard to detect if it was them or something else
Sneak in a WiFi camera into their house somehow
well there gone now so problem is also gone
they got kicked out after i delivered a large report with grafana graphs from a calibrated db meter ๐
๐ฎ
If grandma can do it, let's see...
treating the watermelon for covid-19 I see
btw @forest edge we hit 94F yesterday and the doorbell cam still runnin fine
mine don't kick on, so actually that might also have an overall effect
mine were coming on, going full bright then kicking off. was actually styarting to melt the plastic on the housing lol
@steel urchin did you ever block yours from the net? or do you use the app and all?
i still use the app on occassion
did they ever release another update?
not that i'm aware of
since my router basically died, all my static IPs are broken and so i'm having to currently depend on various apps right now
I managed to dig deeper into the thing, it's packed with all kinds of crap
fetches time from brazil, has an ftp server.. just all kinds of shit lol
I shut it all down and fetch time locally but still don't trust the thing so it never has net access
Dns names are king :D
I only have my server set as static
Everything in HA uses dns names
I went down the static IP hole and now I canโt get out! ๐คข
My router says itโs running out of nvram and needs a reset anyway
Holy shit... weโre getting close to a million confirmed cases in the USA. And we are getting ready to get back to normal. ๐ฑ
Itโs going to feel a lot like Spanish Flu all over again.
If I were to replace my router, Iโm screwed. Way too many static IPs. I need a local DNS server and start naming them.
I think our state has about 0.5 new confirmed cases a day
I have to check whatโs our daily confirmed case count is... 0.5 seems awfully low. Weโre used to seeing everything big in the USA ๐
we're testing alot more than other countries supposedly
USS Covid
I would think most countries are testing at much faster rate by now.
well with the Chinese profiting off selling bad tests to the world, it kinda of slows things down
people don't know if the results of the test mean they have covid or herpies
Contact tracing is now a major activity... time consuming, and it is a race against time.
wish there was at least one news outlet that wasn't dramatizing the hell out of everything and desperately trying to grab for ratings
hate having to watch the original source because you can't trust what the news says about it lol
I thought it started in nov?
Media is media. Thatโs what they do. Everything is breaking news!!! for them.
Ye, totally dramatizing the most dramatic event of the last 70 years
Problem with 24x7 news channels. They donโt have much content to go through. Either they make shit up, or repeat old news.
Problem is we have way too many news channels, everyone is competing for attention. I understand the importance of education and severity of the virus. Totally.
@forest edge check this out - smart shoes for the bike. https://www.roame.com shoes wirelessly connect to your bike and signals break and turn signals ๐
uh lol
the funny thing is they aren't that much more expensive then your typical track boots
I could see people wearing those but I wouldn't lol
@strange vapor they're like velociraptors too
It was there in CES last year. I was there in Vegas, but did not see them. I like the impact resistant part. Not so much about lights. Kinda looks like kids shoes ๐
Always testing for weaknesses in your security
Phishing attacks have significantly increased during the covid down time. It is only a matter of time before we hear bigger data leaks.
https://bgr.com/2020/04/25/asteroid-flyby-1998-or2/ even asteroids are wearing masks in 2020! ๐คฃ
Interesting that the prognosis I saw on Reddit in the first week of April aren't that far off for the us
The charts looked like 3-5 million confirmed cases by mid may, that shouldn't be hard at this rate
I can't remember the death toll, but I think it was close to 80k, so that might be shooting low
Hi, I have a question. How can I get homeassistant configuration folder path in code? Who can help me pray
Guessing you are running #330944238910963714 , they can tell you
Actually, for some reason they posted here after asking in #developers ๐คท

Got to keep you on your toes

I moved my baby cam to the wall 2 months ago
Don't have a need to see her nostrils anymore
Can't wall mount anything :(
I got a nice timber batten to use as a post to mount to the cot
But ... You know how long these projects take to do
Turns out this ram I bought on ebay is actually half the size it should be
Sigh
SoDIMM?
No as in it's from a kit of 2
And the seller has listed the kit size not the per stick size
But listed that as 2 x that size
Ouch
Off to ebay moneyback I go
Just going to put it out there. If you haven't gotten into Lego Masters (au) you really need too. It is MUCH better than the US and the UK versions
Lego my Eggo?
@hushed basalt I mount it with easy removable velcro, leaves no marks and is pretty strong
Not on this crap paint job
These, nothing I've mounted has ever fallen off
Lol Australia
Lol
That's from pressure fit gates
Even if you roll a gym ball against the wall
It comes off with paint
@clear ferry probably has more ram sitting in boxes than I have SSD capacity

Anyone have a good carbon monoxide sensor they use?
What's with the jedi/padawan thing btw, what does it signify
I'm very unreliable @hushed basalt
Mental state @modest smelt
I have lost most of my sanity points, have 1 left
Don't play your yedi mind tricks on me, they won't work

๐
No, really?
Good deal for 25 euros
Depends on what PD profiles it supports
So maybe nice to buy before I get my laptop now it's on sale
The image doesn't tell us much
WTF is it with people posting images rather than links to fecking products
๐
Sorry
So, if your laptop can be charged by 18W... yes
Assuming that the profiles overlap
18 seems just enough to keep my Chromebook alive
Yeah, but that's a Chromebook, those things sip power
My work laptop charges 150w via usbc

That might be, what you linked to before wasn't
@clever mortar would this be a proper sub https://www.klipsch.com/products/spl-150-subwoofer ?
Seems, I dunno, a little underpowered ๐
That's the most American advertisement I've seen in a while
Prepare to shake the floors of your entire neighborhood
๐ค
400w rms 800 peak ...what do you suggest
Moa power
I unplugged my sub after I got a more hefty center
well this will make 3rd sub so i should have 750 of lfe
center will never replace sub no matter how beefy @clear ferry ๐
I don't need any more bass than I have in the front and center
its not really the bass its the freq response spectrum
My upstairs Snell are so low response in I would never need it either
I watch very little Michael Bay movies, so I'm fine
The Snell E.5s I have were a great find tbh, new they were around $1000 but I bought them for $60
hmmm i will have to look into ...but would be hard to convince me against my Kplisch
i have always wanted to hear these ....supposed to be top notch shit https://ohmspeaker.com/speakers/walsh-tall/#wt-5000 little out of my budget thou
i have zero debt
But you don't but speakers for $3300 each
no i would have to save my allowance for a long time ๐คฃ
I could get a pair for a months salary, but then I would starve for a month
about the same here
Here I am with tv speakers and google home minis
I do have Sony WH-1000XM3s though
im sorry

my wife played music on alexa's and found out she can multi room ....then she goes why does it not sound as good as the stuff you have for speakers .... I was like WTF ....woman are you really asking that ๐คฃ
i used money and she was like "whatever"
@dull chasm https://www.themusiclab.org/quizzes/td
ok and?
Quad wants to know if you are tone deaf
sounds like it huh
of course i am somewhat .....been in three wars ....
or quote of govement "Conflicts"
It's good to know the response curve
you sound like my va dr ....she wants to keep probing me ... LOL
yea the va wanted to put me at 30% disability ...i was like why ....i have a job and they are happy and so am i .....so i dont need your check ... I get heath care from it which is what i wanted since i am used to the military style heathcare and I like it
@tidal bronze not as bad as i thought i would be
Excellent
and that was thru monitor speakers on workstation
Now you can justify dumping any kind of money to speakers ๐
cool so if i by sub i can blame you to wife
i am gonna call klipsch about the spl sub vs the older 115sw ....i dont see alot of diff for $200
Klipsch==best
I unplugged my sub after I got a more hefty center
@clear ferry my 12โ klipsch sub is always at the lowest setting. A buddy of mine came over to my house to calibrate the sounds. He brought a sound velocity meter and a bunch of mirrors to bounce sounds and calibrate to reduce echos and all. Honestly, I canโt tell the diff before and after. ๐
Atleast hyped best @green inlet
Just came across this on the pi hut https://thepihut.com/products/status-board-pro
@last plaza did he cut the wires to exactly the equal length too?
He didnโt! They were behind the wall. He wanted to make sure the wiring was at least a foot away from electrical wires and all.

I am definitely not a sound snob but my Forte IIs were awesome matched with a Klipsch sub.
That was 8 years ago. Then I changed my receiver, everything got reset, and i rarely use my home theater now a days.
The guy charges a lot of money to calibrate audio for studios and all. Good friend of mine, but a total bull shitter! ๐คฃ
I know two people who could probably hear a difference between speaker a and speaker b within the same experience range, one is a jazz musician that could tell you every note you hit at once in a piano without them seeing it, the other person has worked as a stage tech for 40 years
Iโm neither of those. Go figure! ๐
Both of them I understand would buy the superior one audio wise, the rest are just posers
I settle for good enough for my ears
Same here.
These days, Alexa fits that bill ๐คฃ
lol
It does not, but symfonisk is good enough for my office use
Would still love to find a pair of outdoor battery operated Bluetooth speakers for my patio
@green inlet what about a pair of UltimateEars Boom speakers?
I got two symfonisks. I wish I can adjust/lower bass. I use for TTS,
Upstairs I have Snell e5s that I bought for $60, they are 20+ years old, and in the living room my setup is probably ,$800 at most for all audio
Link?
I've got a mix of Sonos and some very old Squeezebox's - those are all good enough for me ๐คท
Or a pair of Sonos Moves :p
Outdoors?
If I want music without distractions, I'll stick on my headphones anyway ๐
My TV audio out is Bose Lifestyle system I bought 18 years ago. Still works wonders.
@green inlet something like this. They can be paired as a stereo pair, run for 10Hrs, and can be submerged in water (I know from first hand experience).
If I want music without distractions, I'll stick on my headphones anyway ๐
@clever mortar or when you donโt want to talk to people.
Headphones I go Sony mdr-xb700 - Sony mdr-xb1 - Bose qc35ii in order of preference
Well, the volume some folks "listen" to music at, I don't think they want to talk even when they're not wearing headphones ๐
lol
Thatโs exactly what I am looking for. Can they be mounted?
Don't kinkshame me for my German speedmetal volumes @clever mortar
@green inlet They don't have any official support for mounting.
If your eardrums meet in the middle, it's too loud @clear ferry ๐
I have to ask...why battery @green inlet
@green inlet you can even use them in shower
No access to power and I am not a big fan of exterior wires
Yeah, that seems like a good solution. There is the anker soundcore, too
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F7VJN1G/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_vHAPEb9REZN7N
IIRC, you can easily pair 100 of them and play at the same time. Same goes for UltimateEars.
Iโve seen folks have loud speakers to their motor bikes. I really donโt understand how the heck they can even listen while their motorbike itself makes so much loud noise. Itโs just noise pollution for the neighborhood
20 hours is better. Can you hook two together for stereo?
Yes
I had a stereo in my motorcycle. Was awesome
20hrs sounds better, but i'm not sure how that translates into real world scenarios.
I had a stereo in my motorcycle. Was awesome
@green inlet thatโs what I am talking about! ๐คฃ
Why not put headphones on?
๐คฃ
Hmm....cause it was 30 years ago ๐คฃ
People still do it!
No Honda nighthawk 750
man, I saw the classic gold wing bike in the bike store - pristine condition!! It was not for sale.
Thank you @ocean arrow , I guess I need to evaluate how much it would be used vs the work to get them installed. I am guessing the6 all have lithium batteries so shelf life discharge wouldnโt be an issue
The gold wing is a fucking monster
It reminds me of Jackie Chan Police Story Movies... ๐

I mentioned this before, I had a friend who had two ElectroCompaniet mono blocks that he paid $5000 for each

My neighbor has an old radio that is size of a refrigerator. He can tune in channels broadcasted in Japan ๐ never seen such a huge radio.
He got it from his grandfather, those were used back in the days. He can probably make a lot of money if he auctions it.

Ordered wrong batteries for xiaomi motion sensors.
Lol. 2450, 2032... all look the same ๐คฃ
Put a little tin foil at the end, will probably work
Great idea!
Damn, that's a big brain move
It is the width - 2032s are smaller in diameter
okey, tinfoil around then ๐
First time I had to change batteries on my xiaomi. They last very long time. I have this sensor left outdoors under shade.
I have had them for 2+ years, and still doing well with that single coin cell. Amazing!
Ooof, wife liked my M570 so much I had to order her her own
home audio is a niche' to say the least but even with my system at the low range of hi fi ....most say better than a theater .....and when i play just two channel they cant believe its just front two speakers
now @tidal bronze is on a totally new level than me
@clear ferry I thought you bought a car for your wife... M570 sounded like a car model... I googled M570, it is a mouse! ๐
@last plaza what did you expect from a crumpy old man
I can never use that mouse, and keyboards that are not straight... like this https://www.adesso.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/AKB-160UB-1-1.jpg I like good old simple ones!
so your choice it a straight one ๐คฃ

You mean a straight one?

anyone know of a "smart" 100 amps breakers?
#hardware-archived might ๐คท
ok thanks ๐
100 amp breakers? that's industrial!
have more children and they are posted by breaker panel?
100 amp is what you'll find in larger houses here
same here... having a "smart" breaker for 100 amps sounded bit like industrial
I don't see the use for it at home
I find it funny that the bigger the amperage the smaller the switch to turn on and off
Remember a 300A circuit at a lan party I was hosting, the switch was the size of a cc2531
But the clang it made when I turned it off

Itโs the voltage thatโs hard to break. For more current, you just need thicker conductors, but for higher voltage you need more distance faster.

@clear ferry so do you just stay up 24/7 now? lol
@last plaza here you go, can never be too safe. https://www.helitemoto.com/
Cool!!! I am planning on going to IronPony the day it opens back
$5 a month isn't bad for what this thing offers https://www.track.safer-turn.com/
Oh cool. Itโs like GMโs OnStar service ๐
yea the deep sleep and battery backup built in it better than most diy solutions lol
Sweet!
that $5 is basically paying for the cell service which is pretty cheap. not sure you can even find that
One more week, stores open here slowly.
Thatโs pretty cheap. Hardly a Starbucks coffee a day.
that tracking thing will likely sell out and go up in price after it releases. that price for what it offers is too cheap and with everyone jumping on that it won't stay that cheap for long. hopefully people get grandfathered pricing lol
yup - looks like it is still a pre-order thing - worth trying!
yea says supported in the US.. (evven in norway yuk @clear ferry )
That's very cheap for that tracker

I just removed the LAST zwave device I had on the old vera controller... now I am 100% Home Assisstant! Woohoo!
@midnight adder #cloud-archived
so what exactly do they mean by "version 1: no scene control" ?
#zwave-archived would be a good place to ask that ๐
I'm guessing it means they don't support the Scene Command Class
Who needs that when you have scenes in HA anyway
An, Scene is special ๐
There's a bunch of magic in #zwave-archived where things can interact directly and indirectly
thats kinda what im asking. is that some kinda proprietary zooz scene control stuff, and ha will still run scenes fine?
HA will be fine
#zwave-archived would still be the right place to ask more though ๐
ok
Like association stuff? That is something I find lacking in zigbee, very few battery devices I've seen support binding
Yeah, I use Association between a switch and socket, so that things work "as expected"
It's not that widespread, but it's awesome where it works
Yeah, none of my Xiaomi or tradfri battery devices accept the command, one would expect that to be just a feature flag in the device firmware
But... it costs money to implement, so folks don't if it's optional and they're trying to maximise profit/minimise price
Zzzota

related to the dimmers... can you remotely dim them with HA, or can you only set the dimmness on the switch itself, and just turn it on and off with ha
Still a #zwave-archived topic ๐ Yes you can
Lots of folks are

If you mean in general then yes
No, just specs
it's a NUC, it'll work
If it runs Linux, and has an AMD64 compatible CPU, it works
If it doesn't have an AMD64 compatible CPU, you can still run in a venv
Hello @everyone i have all the devices with sonoff/shelly wired in, installed hass.io on rpi and some more settings, also i have access to all my switches from hass web interface but i wish to make some more automations and to make all of that overall bit smarter. Is there anyone willing to spend some time to review my setup and help me complete missing parts. I also wish to have slightly better interface than a default one. I would reward the help.
@silk pagoda Thankfully that tag doesn't work, or you'd have sent a notification ping to a few thousand people
You really shouldn't ever use that ๐
Given that there's a bit over 4K folks online right now... there's probably another 8K offline, so 12K people wondering why they got a notification ping...
@clever mortar i knew it would not work, it was more to punctuate that i'm addressing everyone
๐คท
I'd suggest posting that on the forum though, it won't vanish from view in 30 minutes there ๐
๐คท
Though, thank you @clever mortar
In that case, you need to (not in the channel) explain what you've got already, what you're looking for, and what kind of reward you're considering. Then folks can eyeball it and work out if they're interested
@clever mortar do you have any idea how much someone would expect for an hour or two of consulting me what and how to do?
Basically, you're looking to "hire" somebody to do work, so describing the "job" is good
~irc @silk pagoda
@silk pagoda Discord isn't like IRC, you don't have to tag people on every response. Keep in mind that every time you tag somebody, they get a notification ping. That can very quickly become annoying and people may block you.
The answer will depend on where in the world, what their skill level is, etc etc etc
Practically, look at what it'd cost to get a plumber out (say)
If I'm hiring an expert I'd expect to be paying up to a few hundred pounds an hour
For a hobbyist, ยฃ50 or so an hour, maybe, but ๐คท
๐ well, definitely we live in different worlds : )
Good, i should spend some more time reading the docs, this would not work this way : )
haha
As I said, where in the world you live matters ๐
It might be, but you need to know the budget (both in total and in terms of hourly) you can afford
If all you can afford is โฌ50, then being up-front about that will help folks know if they're interested
Maybe for somebody else that's a big deal ๐คท
It's not about the money but this one is pretty much open for different interpretations of how much time is required...
50 GBP is ok but i don't respect the job that much since i could do much of it, just was looking for an experienced copilot that would ake some shortcuts for me
instead, i should probbabbly go back to the docs..
Experienced co-pilot ... experience costs money ๐
you know that some parts are extremely confusing
They can be, but anybody can submit updates
@clever mortar I agree...
I apologize, irc habit.
It's a bad one ๐
Here it is, but over there it was essential.
Oh, I know, I spent enough time on IRC in the old days ๐
@clever mortar can i send you private message, just for your oppinion?
: )
i just thought to show you the devices i have wired in etc
to see what do you think about that amount etc..
anyway
:
๐
I see no reason for that
I told you I wasn't going to help you in a DM and you DM me anyway?
I see plenty of reason to block you
I didn't see that as asking for help. It was more like friendly oppinion. I'm definitely not an asshole but yeas i'm stupid to think that there is friendly people out there. There is much more assholes. I can agree on that one.
I wanted to say something several times but figured I should keep my mouth shut ๐
Let you handle it
All fine.
There are plenty of people here who will help you. You have to realize they do this in their spare time. You have to be willing to help yourself though. Identify your problem, read the docs, and if you get stuck, find the proper channel and ask a specific question.
@green inlet ย i did a lot, i didn't come here to ask "hey how to start and complete" everything. It's just that i never ever seen anyone experienced with homeassistant i i have no idea if i'm missing some good features. The best practices are not always shown in the docs.
I was looking for a help but before that i have a short list/description of what devices i have and what parts i'm missing, i my intention was to hear someones comment on that. If i should make some changes before i ask for further help, if something could make things easier etc. I was not comfortable of sharing all of it in public chat.
But this friendly guy lost his nerves, i believe he spends a lot of time in this chat and maybe he should take a break sometimes. I absolutelyย see no reason to say that someone is an "arsehole" as he told me in pm.
I said no I won't answer your DM
You DMd me
That's an arsehole move
You can share stuff in the channels, that's how it works
And you are still pinging people
I dont know Tinkerer personally. I do know him from here. He is very well respected and from what I can see, very patient. He has told you what to do, I have told you what to do, but you want to do it your way?
Blok me, completely ok, don't tell me i'm an asshole. No need for that!
There's a saying...
No means no
There is an interesting fact that internet connects people with different backgrounds and very different cultural norms. Despit all the differences, insults ans calling someone asshole is definitely always very rude behaviour and especially in this particular "mistake" that i made, i see no reason for pulling that out and calling me like that.
Maybe you will think about that sometimes later.

No ๐คข? ๐คฃ
Hi Guys. I'm new here and starting to buy some equipment for homeassist. so far I've only ordered the raspberry pi 4b, and i have an old dafang camera (that apparently is supported).
and one of the things i would like to have are the Ikea smart blinds.
do i need the ikea tradfri gateway ?
and to connecto to xiaomi devices do i also need their gateway?
No, and no
Anything #zigbee-archived can be controlled with one of the three #zigbee-archived integrations
That channel can explain your options there, and #hardware-archived for non #zigbee-archived/#zwave-archived devices
Thanks Tinkerer !! ๐ just one last question before i jump to that channel! i will need a zigbee dongle right?
Yes
thanks again. i'll jump to the channel to ask for recommendations on the dongle
I've tagged you with the first thing you need to think of - before you get to dongles ๐
Can anyone point me towards an idiots guide to Portainer? I wanted to try setting up a Minecraft server (I've already been told, this isn't a great idea on a RPi) but I don't know enough to translate the commands given here (https://hub.docker.com/r/itzg/minecraft-bedrock-server) to the GUI inputs in Portainer.
You should rather focus on learning the cli than a GUI, if you want real value from learning it
Of Docker?
Yes
If you understand what the docs there describe you should be able to translate it to any half decent UI
OK, then I'll work on learning more about Docker and from the CLI.
Mostly you'll likely need to set the port, and a volume for the data. Other things are mostly optional, though accepting the EULA will be good
Best way to learn IMO is a test box/VM that you can mess about in
And not running it on a pi will be a great step
That and referring to the Docker docs, they're pretty solid
My test Docker system is a Pi, it's fine, if ... not fast
Is the issue with Minecraft the number of users or the world?
You do want to run one of the cut down builds
The issue is that the Pi ain't fast or powerful enough
A month or two down the line I was planning on moving over to a NUC. For learning, it shouldn't matter the platform. If it's slow then maybe my kids will get frustrated and go take out the trash once and a while. Hmm, maybe make an automation to slowly pull system resources the longer they play? ๐
๐คฃ
As I said, it works, you'll want to look at the Spigot builds from memory though
They're deliberately cut down a bit to run on lower power systems
I don't wanna adult today
What are they cutting down? Features?
I never want to adult, thankfully I can play most days, even at work

I don't wanna adult today
