Is the Bambu A1 decent? There are refurbished ones for about 200 USD at my Microcenter

#

oh A1 mini

warm helm
#

yeah, but check if they have the p1s refurb

#

$340, no ams

#

Before getting my p1s I would use my ender every few months and even then I feel like it was worth having around. Every so often, I'd need a smart sensor mount, wire clip or other small mount and it was nice to just spend a few minutes sending it to the printer vs finding something that may work on amazon and then having to order 20 of them or worse over paying on etsy

solar zealot
#

anything from bambu is pretty decent

#

would get the ams and an enclosed one tho, makes a lot of things much more painless

stuck mortar

That’s much cheaper than the $25000 quote I got for a 3d printed part from jlc

#

only bad thing is the webcam but 550 is a good number

warm helm
# solar zealot good combination

The camera isn't the best but I also get why they did it. Its functionally fine, its just not 30fps so people can watch it live.

#

Same thing people do with security cameras. Ratched the FPS up and gain nothing functionally except lose space

#

I was looking at the P1s for 340 because I already have one with an AMS but still print mostly black petg. Run the big spools that don't fit

solar zealot
#

especially considering the x1c kinda also doesnt get anything better than absolute basic

warm helm
#

P1S is just a x1c as far as I can tell for the most part just once they brought the cost way down

#

and came out with the H series

solar zealot
#

did they improve the lights inside in the new gens?

#

that was kinda the second silly choice they did

warm helm
#

the only thing that does piss me off not that I have ever gotten it to work is my ender does have AI print failure detection that the p1s doesn't

static schooner
#

How does it know?

warm helm
#

I also most never really have a failure on either one outside of warping or first layer issues though

static schooner
#

Seems like for the most part, it could detect clogs and mechanical failures with the printer itself, but how does it know if what it's printing is garbage?

unborn merlin
#

warm helm
warm helm
#

Really not horrible, I just have both send me snaps from the cameras to my watch every few minutes to catch it manually but like I said I rarely have print issues past the first few layers. The last one on the bambu was because I forgot to enable supports. The print still worked entirely for my needs though

#

The only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on this p1s is that p2s adds some nice features and AMS2, though I'd probably connect my AMS to it also for 8 colors and then run big spools on this p1s

I have to give props to HA, I had to rename a device because orginally when I named it, it had a space, rather then go through and rename all the entities I just nuked the device and readded it, same name but just added an underscore, figured I'd have to readjust my dashboards and automations, but HA automatically associated with the new device, thank you who ever did that 🙂

I sometimes use that to drive it out of "robot trapped" scenarios. It's pretty slow and non-threatening, though

#

Thinking you could have a thin string going diagonally across underneath, connected to one corner of the rug and going through an eyelet on the other, so a single motor could pull and both fold it in half(ish) and whisk it away in a single motion 😄

Annoying little whine moment... I'm a little disappointed in the marketing for the ZBT-2, with it being placed on side tables in marketing photos, etc it implies that it doesn't have to be anywhere near your HASS server... because who is gonna just have their entire home automation server sat out on a side table like that?

So I buy one, only to find that I'm probably worse off than my current Sonoff bridge because my server is where a server belongs: in a cupboard under the stairs 🫠

Yeah, but I want to get a system that can run a local ollama model competently, and the odds of that happening in the current market are approximately HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

exotic yoke

(This isn't a support question, so I am guessing this general channel is the best place for it, but let me know if there is a better spot to ask)

Hey y'all, wondering if somebody can recommend their favorite off-the-shelf piece of hardware as a dedicated HA machine that is low-power and can run 24/7 with high stability.

I love the idea of the Green, but with only 4 GB RAM and no way to upgrade, I don't think I want to go that direction. Currently I am using an old Intel NUC which has worked well for about a year, but started occasionally having crashes were I have to physically unplug it and then power back up again.

atomic delta
#

I didn't have good results with qwen

exotic yoke
#

i didnt either wheeze i just dont have a ton of options

#

actually most of the time it contacts ollama cloud

#

which is free and has decent models

#

the local model is just a fallback rn

#

also made an ollama fork to manually set the max vram to trigger the ollama routine to offload to system ram, which massively slows it but nonetheless is functional

exotic yoke
atomic delta
#

Still, Hermes is -fast-. Just a bit stupid.

exotic yoke
#

im ok with it being medium speed if it works

#

but also since i last actually used local models, i switched to a much larger whisper model (which has given great results actually)

#

switched from whisper small en to 3.5/large-distill

#

huge difference

atomic delta
#

Hermes mostly works, it's usually when I ask it to do unit conversions on barometric pressure adjusted for altitude or things like that where it starts just making up garbage.

#

And then I ask it if it's sure, and it says yes, and tells me something different.

exotic yoke
#

i only ever use my HA assistant for like smarthome stuff and the ai is just so it can comprehend better commanbds, if i have real questions ill ask a real web ai

Whats annoying me is I spent that much on my synology setup, live and learn I guess

#

Really was aiming for a n300 system, but then I realized I don't need the power I have server on 24/7 and anything that needs horsepower can just go on that

#

n150 with 8 gigs of ram and 128gb is probably overkill for a opensense box

# glacial knot Which APs?

Zyxel WiFi 7 Access Point BE5100, not great, but for the price and for what I'm using them for I think they will be fine

#

Did not go with radios with 6ghz as my house has steel siding so we get very little interference from the outside and all PC's are hardwired(basically AP's are for cell phones and IOT)

May work well with a fine enough blade

#

The insulation is normally very floppy though, not sure how easy it is to keep still

grizzled gull

if just copper or aluminum a hacksaw with fine tooth blade would cut through it, clamp it to a table or put it in a vice?

last cedar
#

It is like rubber cable basically, just a bit thicker

grizzled gull
#

Are you cutting the insulation or the wire?

last cedar
#

I need to grab some lugs too, I need to drill the busbar

last cedar
grizzled gull
#

what gauge wire? Because honestly I find it cheaper for anythign above 2/0 to just buy premade cables

#

That partially because my crimper only does 1/0 but also they buy wire in bulk and get it cheaper

last cedar
#

It is around 4/0 I think

#

It could very well be cheaper to just order them, although I do work at a proper electrical company, I only do low voltage stuff though, so I really should be doing them myself 😄

#

I am not even sure who works with stuff this large at work, need to ask around

#

Been stuck at a single project for over 2 years, I don't even know everyones name yet lol

ocean oar
#

The hydraulic crimper they have to use for the stuff in our datacentre at work is wild. Takes two people to lift it

#

500mm2 cable seems to be a special kind of joy to work with

#

Also watching one of the apprentice electricians doing involuntary chin ups on the torque wrench because they didn't weigh enough to tighten the bolts holding it to the busbars 😄

minor bobcat
last cedar
#

Luckily I only need like 120mm2 cable, for the battery rack to the inverters, it is quite managable

#

Think the rest will be 35mm2, the mppts seem to run 35mm2 terminals and all the sources should have same length of cable and same size to avoid mismatches

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction on this, as my searches have come up bupkis.

I have HA installed via Docker and Music Assistant installed via Docker as well (same stack) and while I can get MA up and running great, I cannot see it from the HA app. I was sort of under the impression that while I could not install apps/add-ons without HAOS, I could circumvent it and I guess I did, but is there any way to then automate my music set up from MA inside HA? The other curious thing is that under Media there's no sign of MA either, but if I go into a player in HA, I can see a folder view of more or less everything provided by MA.

I know it's not ideal, but my alternatives are a Pi3, which struggles and simply can't run MA plus HA. I had set up HA via VM on my desktop, but I don't want to run my desktop in perpetuity just to get apps either. I'm running this all off my NAS.

Would you die before you ate all 22m2 of kitkats?

Or how long would it take to eat them, if say you ate maybe 5 or 6 bars per meal? To make it part of a balanced diet

# warm helm And?

Well. you're keeping an inferior solution due to the cost invested in the past.

And will continue investing in a bad solution, due to the cost already invested having a value for you.

Therefore losing more money on an inferior product

That's the falacy 😛

I went from 16 Minis to 9 Voice Assist assistants, and honestly.

As bad, if not better for me.

With minis, i could not start media from my Plex server to my Chromecats

I tried hooking up a Mic to esp32s, and gave up and went with premadeESP32-s3-boxes

For a mic, you'll need an amplifier and all that to be soldered, as the voltage is very low without that

warm helm

I do have a withings pressure mat, I replace the esp32 one with it again as I wasn't getting good readings with it but for a while I was just using bermuda and phone charge state to run the good night automations

So it depends on your needs

I used to use this little aqara illuminance sensors but I kind of hated them. I had to manipulate the data coming out so much to kind of get them to do what I wanted and they still didn't really work that well.
