You can jump on another players shoulders to get the ball

That part is fun

@prisma briari dug this out for you

The fact you're still going on with that means you didn't understand a damn thing that was said to you

like those old consoles still in the factory sealed boxes

umbral cliff

Hell Ive got a vacuum cleaner that's nearly as old as me that's working fine and runs like new

prisma briar

Old consoles in factory sealed boxes are often dead because of leaky capacitors/batteries or failing components

forest edge
prisma briar

Often you don't want an old in box console if you want to actually play it, you want a restored one.

No we want emulators

solar zealot
forest edge

prisma briar

I built that TV console from a kit when I moved in in 2022

forest edge

prisma briar

Video games used to not be wildly expensive and that's when I got most of that.

prisma briar
forest edge
#

or is that knockdown

prisma briar
#

Asbestos, because old shit is great

forest edge
#

as long as you don't mess with it will remain there for another 100 years

#

so why complain?

prisma briar
#

Because I want to install an exhaust fan in my laundry room and it was going to be like $12k

umbral cliff
#

Asbestos be expensive

prisma briar
#

Because nobody will work on an unmitigated asbestos ceiling

forest edge
#

like the old now banned mixture of creosol that still to this day keeps my fence posts in duty.. you just can't replace that

prisma briar
#

Instead I just moved my laundry out to my garage

clear ferry
#

When I move up north I want to take up my education and hobby of electronics repair, there are so few people who do that now that the market should be pretty good, and extra income

umbral cliff
forest edge
prisma briar
#

Or just not have it to begin with, it was put in a lot of places where it wasn't really needed

forest edge
#

realistically as long as you don't mess with it it won't harm anything

umbral cliff
prisma briar
#

I'm still young enough to develop mesothelioma so it's a concern for me

umbral cliff
#

Sonoma is right though. Untouched asbestos is fine
As soon as you disturb it then there's an issue

prisma briar
#

Yea, I know.

forest edge
#

thats another thing.. yes it's toxic, blah blah but you know if you look up cases where shit like asbestos actually causes medical issues was people who would breathe that shit in on a daily baises for a long period of time yet there is more money in making people fear something more to have it rmovd than to suggst leaving it or removing it yourself

prisma briar
#

You can't remove it yourself

#

That's wildly illegal and irresponsible

forest edge
#

i mean

prisma briar
#

They'll straight up condemn a house over that

forest edge
#

homeowner discretion

#

what they don't know..

prisma briar
#

will still hurt the homeowner?

forest edge
#

I am faced with a somewhat similar situation. farm house has asbestos shingles and they want like over 10k to remove it professionaly along with the house

#

seriously.. f that

#

but if I remove it myself.. none the wiser

prisma briar
#

There's a high chance you end up hurting somebody else.

forest edge
#

how so

prisma briar
#

Just on a 20 year delay.

forest edge
#

where do you come up with this shit?

prisma briar
#

What?

#

Are you for real?

forest edge
#

hurt someone else? how so?

#

i am asking again

prisma briar
#

By throwing cancerous fibers around and leaving them untreated because you for some reason think you're qualified to remove asbestos

forest edge
#

what

prisma briar
#

Think, man

forest edge
#

I don't even know what you are thinking to type that.. you dispose of it yourself.. noone is saying throw it in the trash bin

prisma briar
#

Asbestos is carcinogenic and can cause issues in people with limited exposure.

forest edge
#

you know what the recommnded way to deal with asbestos dust on the ground?

#

a water hose

prisma briar
#

Yea, I know the general concept behind mitigating dust

prisma briar
#

Living people

#

The squishy bags of blood walking around

forest edge
#

i think you blown a fuse.. me removing asbestos from a vacant old house dosen't kill people

prisma briar
#

That attitude is why it's illegal to do it unless you know what you're doing.

forest edge
#

you just live in fear don't you

#

this is why asbestos and radon and all that other shit charges so much money

prisma briar
#

No, I can't say that I'm constantly worried about asbestos. I'm just not dumb enough to remove it myself.

forest edge
#

people like you feed the fear

#

to each thier own.. noone suggested you inhale it

#

shit the same suits the pro's use is on amazon for like 60 bucks

#

if you that worried

prisma briar
#

A person can easily test for and mitigate radon themselves, not sure what relevance that has here. A test kit is like $40 and mitigating it is as easy as installing a fan.

forest edge
#

there are places in every city that will take it to dispose of it properly, you only have to bag it

forest edge
#

you'll shit yourself

#

then look up what the parts that make up a radon reduction cost

prisma briar
#

I don't care about a radon reduction system, in my area all they call for is a maintained exhaust fan.

forest edge
#

point is the fear drives up the cost

#

you are the reason you cannot afford to hire a professional

prisma briar
#

Not sure where you're getting that I couldn't afford it, I just found a cheaper solution to the problem I was facing.

#

I'm not going to if I don't need to.

forest edge
#

you sure? you seem kind of paniced

#

maybe you are inhaling small fibers right now

#

you never know

prisma briar
#

Are you having a stroke?

#

How am I panicked about anything?

solar zealot
#

Legally it may depend both on your country and the type of asbestos you are working with whether or not you are required to get a contractor to do it for you

forest edge
prisma briar
#

When I sent in a test kit to check my popcorn the result I got was that it was asbestos and they also included it's illegal in my county to remove it myself.

forest edge
prisma briar
#

There was no panic anywhere.

#

Just continued surprise at how absurd your thought processes are.

forest edge
#

but again.. homeowner discretion. it's not like cities and counties go around and catagorize houses with absestos to know if a homeowner removed any

forest edge
prisma briar
#

No, I don't dream of old people throwing pollutants around. That's Greta Thunberg's nightmare.

forest edge
#

I smoke.. wonder how many people i kill on a daily basis according to your logic

prisma briar
#

If you smoke around your family second hand smoke has serious documented effects

#

You may not be killing people daily but you may be killing the people you love.

#

But, it's fine, your cocksuredness will keep them safe.

forest edge
#

who said you didn't have a sense of humor

solar zealot
#

Yaal just weird xD Wear protective gear and don't get caught will let you get you away with everything

forest edge
#

just glad grandfathered is a thing. imagine if the governments forced people to spend money to appease all the senstive people afraid of everything

prisma briar
#

Yea, god forbid people be required to ensure their actions don't cause adverse harm

#

Such a sensitive society we live in today

forest edge
#

lol advrese harm

#

get alot of people coming over to lick your cieling do ya?

prisma briar
#

Do you intentionally miss the point of peoples' arguments or are you really just having that hard of a time paying attention?

forest edge
#

just find your fear funny

prisma briar
#

I'm not afraid of the asbestos in my ceiling, lol

#

I just know not to cut on it

#

I'm not afraid of you doing whatever you do, either. I'm just pointing out there are risks involved with it that you seem to want to pretend don't exist.

forest edge
#

didn't you start the night complaining about not being able to do something cause of it?

was confused how it could work with a tv with two speakers and sub lol

Wait what does QF mean for your name @tidal bronze

tidal bronze
#

DSP based. Even my phone has it. But just make believe

umbral cliff
#

I'm too tired for logic

solar zealot
forest edge
#

does your phone make you feel immersed? lol

tidal bronze
#

Dolby is known for licensing lol

forest edge
#

what drives me nuts about my tv is that I can't just get flat stereo.. not sure if it's an android thing or what and 5.1 sounds off to me too at lower volumes.. kind of drives me nuts lol

tidal bronze
#

You mean 2ch

forest edge
#

i mean normilized volume stereo

tidal bronze
#

Hmm with what?

forest edge
#

my samsung was able to do it but it didn't have a sub and it also wasn't running android

#

my tv

prisma briar
#

There's a couple versions of Atmos, The version that's actually a game changer uses a 3d audio rendering engine, it renders the sound in 3d space then places virtual mics in the 3d space and plays what they generate at that spot out of your physical speakers. The media will send location data and direction in the 3d space along with sounds being played. This allows for an absurd number of speakers to be hooked up to a system, 64 in total.

There's also the DSP versions of Atmos that are basically just tuning to make crappy speakers sound better.

tidal bronze
#

If you are not playing music, everything must be down mixed to 2ch

forest edge
#

it sounds great with actual dolby content with the volume up for normal movie watching shit. but late night when the woman is asleep and I have the volume lower it drives me batty

forest edge
#

plus I think i read dolby dosen't even count the sub

tidal bronze
#

You should have a AI or night mode for sure

prisma briar
#

subs don't provide spacial information to our ears

forest edge
tidal bronze
#

Lol

forest edge
#

and intelligent sound.. i don't even know what that means but it's weird too

prisma briar
#

Can you just disable atmos and set your output to 2.0 PCM?

#

atmos doesn't make a ton of sense on a 2.1 setup

forest edge
#

disabling atmos makes the center channel too low

tidal bronze
#

I don't think so

solar zealot
#

Headphones™️

forest edge
solar zealot
#

Hearing aids

forest edge
#

it's not a hearing issue

#

its a center channel issue

solar zealot
#

It's technically not a headphone

tidal bronze
forest edge
#

and it's either the tv, android or plex on android

prisma briar
#

A 2.0 system doesn't have center

forest edge
#

do they just chalk those two speakers and the mid or whatever those are called

#

as the

tidal bronze
#

Dsp mix center

forest edge
#

everyone says in videos to just buy a soundbar but this tv got great sound reviews so I thought it would be fine and it is for normal daytime viewing.. just low volume blows

tidal bronze
#

That's the hardest for any system

#

Low volume

prisma briar
#

I'd double check your streaming apps are doing 2.0 when you set your tv to 2.0 if it sounds like a center channel is missing

forest edge
#

not for just plain ole stereo lol

#

plain ole stereo is fine at low volumes

tidal bronze
#

Yes and no.

forest edge
#

I don't have much control over those setting in android

tidal bronze
#

There is no such setting anymore

forest edge
#

exactly and why the f not

#

it's not like it can't do it

tidal bronze
#

Make it easier to operate

forest edge
#

for a two speaker tv stereo should always be an option

#

but no you get a bunch of presets that just make you wonder if a gorilla designed them

#

wtf is even intelligent sound?

tidal bronze
#

Source will decide how you should be hearing their shit. Lol

prisma briar
#

Yea but those sources tend to assume you're blasting the movie as loud as you can like you're at a theater

tidal bronze
#

@forest edge try playing some atmos music

forest edge
#

movie have music in them.. that count? lol

tidal bronze
#

See if you actually have an issue with TV or you need to learn new listening skills

prisma briar
#

He means specifically a song remastered and encoded in atmos

#

Amazon Music has some, never encountered them anywhere else.

forest edge
#

dolby hdr content with dolby atmos is awesome. you get that little popup on the tv when content has that shit in it but everything else is just weird with atmos turned on lol

prisma briar
#

hdr is a visual component

forest edge
#

i know but if you get one

#

you get the other

#

it seems

tidal bronze
#

What 2ch source material are you referring to?

forest edge
#

usually my shit on plex

tidal bronze
#

Like?

forest edge
#

most of that defaults to 5.1

#

tho some do have a seperate stereo track but when i change it to stereo it's not really stereo with this tv lol

#

it's like the tv just auto upmixes

prisma briar
#

5.1 downmixed to 2.0 is going to sound like crap

tidal bronze
#

So down mix to 2ch on plex

forest edge
#

no option other than what i just said

prisma briar
#

Or get media with a 2.0 track already on and choose that

forest edge
#

like i just said

#

even picking the stereo track it sounds weird

#

like the tv just auto upmixes

tidal bronze
#

It will

#

You know that stereo is not a thing anymore

forest edge
#

I don't get why it's so hard to not offer a simple stereo mode

forest edge
#

plenty of shit still uses stereo

tidal bronze
#

All new music is multi channel

forest edge
#

hell once in a blue moon i run across shit in mono lol

prisma briar
#

Nobody creates new content in stereo

#

Outside of like YouTube

tidal bronze
#

Youtube app decodes to multi channel as well and does a wonderful job

forest edge
#

yea well as you said

#

5.1 in 2ch sounds like crap

#

and a tv with only two speakers has no otyher choice

#

now at higher volumes it sounds great

prisma briar
#

Probably why those reviews you read said the speakers on it aren't great

tidal bronze
#

Get a good sound bar with at least 5 drivers

forest edge
tidal bronze
#

I am totally against sound bars but.....

forest edge
#

but noone talks about stereo

tidal bronze
#

You are too old

forest edge
#

so you don't get reviews that cover how shitty a tv might sound in stereo

prisma briar
forest edge
#

it's not like it's hard to offer stereo

tidal bronze
#

Get a receiver then. Fulfill your stereo fantasies.

forest edge
#

and I don't know who is at fault. android or plex

prisma briar
#

The movie's sound director

tidal bronze
#

Yep

forest edge
#

my days of surround sound are over.. haven't even stepped foot in a movie theater in over 7 years

#

so buying additional equipment to make something sound normal is bs

tidal bronze
#

You have no idea what you're missing

forest edge
#

oh wait that local to california only

prisma briar
#

They make shampoos if you have seat crabs

tidal bronze
#

So you telling me that you haven't watched a movie in Dolby cinema?

forest edge
tidal bronze
#

I mean at a theater with a dedicated sub box

prisma briar
#

rear firing built-in tv speakers don't count as a 'cinema' setup

forest edge
#

dolby been around a long time so the answer is still yes?

tidal bronze
#

So you haven't

forest edge
#

i even seen movies in thx

tidal bronze
#

THX is not dolby

forest edge
#

and one time at disney world I saw a 4d movie

#

the seats moved and water sprayed your face etc

prisma briar
#

He means specifically a Dolby Atmos theater, you cantankerous old coot.

tidal bronze
#

Man that's old stuff

forest edge
#

as i said.. 7 years ago.. if it was around then. then sure

tidal bronze
#

No

#

So no dobly cinema and no dolby theater, oh boy, you need help

forest edge
#

no i need stereo

prisma briar
#

You're talking to a person who was ranting about how CRTs were better because they don't age from use.

forest edge
#

haven't you been reading what i type?

#

lol don't age from use.. love how you just make shit up

tidal bronze
#

You are not going to find it. Tune your ears.

forest edge
#

guess by that time headphones will be your only option lol

#

maybe you'll have to settle a tv with braille

tidal bronze
#

You want to make believe you are living in 1979, make belive you are hearing 1979 as well

prisma briar
#

I hope I never get old enough that I'm befuddled by sound coming from more than two spots at once

tidal bronze
#

LMAO best line ever

forest edge
#

surround sound has been around a long time

#

there isn't anything revolutionary now

forest edge
#

least till tesla starts hooking shit up to our brains

tidal bronze
#

I think you need a crab Sandwich

forest edge
#

i had crab fondue for new years

#

but it wasn't actual crab

#

whatever that immation shit that is made from that one fish

tidal bronze
#

Oh no. Not krab

#

I would walk out of any place that serves krab

forest edge
#

we made it ourselves. good thing you haven't visted lol

prisma briar
#

Homemade crab, mmm.

#

I'm assuming you're constructing the actual crab from ingredients.

forest edge
#

you thought I meant we fabricated the ingredients?

prisma briar
#

For the sake of a joke, yes.

forest edge
#

nope store bought but mixed with other stuff.. old passed down recipe

prisma briar
#

I think the fake crab I've had was all pork based

forest edge
#

not heard of that

#

I know there is a second fish they sometimes make it out of but i think only the one fish is primarly is what you are able to get

prisma briar
#

idk, I avoid the stuff. Fish are gross.

#

I might be misremembering, I can't find anything on imitation crab meat made from pork.

Could also be an anti-static drain wire. Hard to tell because of potato quality/size.

dawn moth
dawn moth
dawn moth
#

Here's another one my trying to pin point

#

There's a series of brown wires which are either for the hvac system or the door bell

#

At the doorbell junction I have three brown wires, one goes to the doorbell, other one goes to the transformer in the basement, other one is unknown and my trying to find It's purpose

#

It seems to be coming up from the basement.

And the wire is terminating to the transformer wire

#

So when the power is live I'm not getting a reading.

#

The bare wires is the mystery line

#

The one marked with red is again the mystery wire, and the dark blue is the doorbell and the teal is the live from the transformer.

#

Right below that junction is the thermostat board, which seems to be getting power from a separate circuit (also using a brown wire) I'm pretty it's getting 24-28v from the furnace controller board in the basement. Which is indeed on a separate circuit

#

The additional brown wire you see is actually a cut wire running between the thermostat junction and a dumb switch junction right below it... yes this is getting complicated ahaha

#

This is the dumb switch junction

#

This is where I'm so confused

#

We can ignore the dead wire (I might use it to pull new wires up)

#

But the brown wire heading into the dumb switch is a new mystery

#

This switch is used to toggle a fan not far away in the hall

#

It's also separate from the doorbell and furnace circuits

#

Yet for some reason has a brown wire

#

And three white romexs

#

One is probably a live wire

#

And the other most likely goes to the fan or a light switch right beside this junction

#

I tried running a endoscope in the wall, and far as I was able to go, seems three browns are heading to the basement.

#

And a single white romex

#

There's only one brown coming off of the transformer

#

Another brown can be found going to the furnace as a ground

#

Yet another brown goes to the furnaces red main wiring

#

So I'm assuming their patching into the controllers line for thermostat power

#

Doorbell gets power from the transformer

#

Which leaves the two last brown wires to sniff out

#

The fan switch and the Doorbell junction mystery wire... what ever it is, it's getting power from the transformer and taking that back down to the basement

dawn moth
#

A continuity test is telling me the wire heading to the thermostat board and is the same wiring going to the dumb switch 😵‍💫

dawn moth

#

At this point it's starting to feel like I'm the previous owner too

dawn moth
#

24-28v on the brown

#

120v on molex

#

Going to the same switch

#

Supposed that's where the thermostat board is getting it's power

#

I would assume the bridge is broken

#

I can confirm that the brown wire from the switch is indeed going around to the thermostat computer, they share the circuit with the furnace control board

#

But the fan still operates so it's separate

#

What's the point of breaking the bridge on that switch and going to the thermostat when ultimately the brown wire goes down to the furnace?

#

The thermostat board is not being toggled by said switch either

#

As it always has a constant supply of power

#

The far wires on the right are the transformer and the mysterious wire both go down to the basement.

#

The third wire on the right, that's the thermostat

#

Apparently it's going down somewhere and back to that dumb switch which is the wire you see on the left hand side of that junction box

#

That white romex is definitely going to the fan

#

And the additional brown is nothing.

#

I can follow the wires deeper due to my endoscope getting stuck nor can I find the wires in the utility room

#

Well I found the the source of the thermostat wire... not sure why it's going to a switch

#

Like I initially thought it's getting power from the furnace control board, interestingly enough through the brown wire that I initially thought was a grounding point.

#

28v ac

#

That thick metal wite is probably the mains power

#

I can't figure out why they bridge it to a switch though

#

An I'm curious about this brown wire heading the same direction, is it perhaps the mysterious wire?

forest edge
#

what are you trying to do

dawn moth
#

I'm trying to reverse engineer the extra wire in my doorbell junction box (I'm adding a zbmini switch there in order to toggle the power on the doorbell.

#

There's an extra wire however that's pulling power also from the transformer

#

It goes to the basement but doesn't have an obvious use case

#

I can pin point the wire

forest edge
#

so unplug it and see what dies

dawn moth
#

Thus why it has no obvious use case

dawn moth
forest edge
#

if you are not the original owner the house then it was something left behind from something someone else done for whatever reason. if leaving it dead effects nothing then just snip it back and leave it

dawn moth
#

Well it most likely effects something

#

It's a brown wire which in this house seems to either be hvac or doorbell/thermostat

#

Those aren't effected though

clear ferry
#

How to tell it is an American project, screw terminals OS_haha

dawn moth
#

This is a mess and it's driving me nuts

clear ferry
#

Arrrr she be driving me 'nuts

dawn moth
# dawn moth

Why does this wire split off to who knows where? It gets power from the honey well management board, which gets power from the furnace control board

#

That circuit has nothing to do with this wire

#

This wire is dead, regardless If either circuit is running

#

It's most definitely grabbing power from the transformer.

forest edge
#

any wire from an hvac system to the doorbell is something some homeowner done and likely from the sounds of it, it was an attempt to power something extra at the doorbell location. you are invested too much into figuring out the reason lol

dawn moth
#

But I only see three brown wires in the wall heading to the basement and three brown wires going up.

Two from the furnace and one from the transformer.

dawn moth
forest edge
#

you said it yourself. the wire does nothing. move on?

dawn moth
#

Does it really? It's drawing power

forest edge
#

why would you mess with a left behind diy thermostat?

#

how can it drain power if it's connected to nothing at one end?

#

other than maybe it's shorting on some nail

dawn moth
#

It's far from diy, if I remember correctly the original owner had this put in by a local installer

#

It's honey well wireless thermostat

#

Aka proprietary junk

forest edge
#

maybe it was an attempt to be an external temperature reader

dawn moth
#

Does it have something to do with this then maybe?

#

A temp sensor would make sense

forest edge
#

honeywell also sells doorbells.. maybe it was part of some ecosystem with the old skyconnect doorbell or something

clear ferry
#

Easiest solution to figure out what something does it always to disconnect it and wait a week and see who yells or what doesn't work

dawn moth
#

But I would assume that sensor would go back to the control board downstairs for the thermostat... which I don't see anything coming in there

clear ferry
#

If the answer is nothing, then remove

dawn moth
forest edge
dawn moth
#

I was the first to remove it and install the video doorbell that's using the transformer now. And at the time I noticed this spare wire bridged to the bell box

forest edge
#

thought you said it went to the hvac

dawn moth
#

Everything I've located is getting it's own power for either the transformer or furnace circuits.. this wire is dead unless tied into the transformer from the doorbell junction box

dawn moth
#

And it's heading down to the basement with the transformer and thermostat wires

forest edge
#

bad assumption

#

for all you know it was a bad wiring for a secondary indoor chime

dawn moth
#

Fair point, there's also this mysterious knob

#

It's between the walls where the wires would be

#

I can never find what this thing does

#

There's a wood burning fireplace across the room from it

dawn moth
#

So it would of been a planned thing that never got implemented

#

My other big question is why does the thermostat wires connect to the fan switch before heading to the furnace for power?

#

The bridge is broken and the switch doesn't toggle the power for the thermostat, it just jumps from there to the thermostat board... (28v) why not just go directly 💀

dawn moth
#

It's going to the center pin, marked transformer

#

Another bell box I suppose... just never put in, sitting somewhere in the basement 😵‍💫

#

I'm just gonna tape it off for now, and if something goes wrong least I'll know where to look. Wish I knew it's purpose because surely I could make use of 28v

forest edge
#

prewiring for something that never gets implemented isn't uncommon

dawn moth
#

It's not this... nor do I know what this is either 🤣

dawn moth
forest edge
#

you don't know what a dimmer switch is?

#

maybe you shouldn't be messing with that stuff lol

dawn moth
#

For this particular Dimmer switch

forest edge
#

looks wired to something

#

no lights?

dawn moth
#

There is lights in this room but they don't interact with that switch

forest edge
#

those also use to get used for ceiling fans as well

dawn moth
#

Well that was my theory

#

But the ceiling fan on the top floor directly above it is on that switch the thermostat shares, ahaha

#

This doesn't effect it

#

I also wondered if it was the fire place, may it has a fan?

forest edge
#

check the outlets near the switch. it might be just hooked to one of the plugs

dawn moth
#

Doesn't seem to toggle one though

forest edge
#

celing fans use to just have long cords that plugged in to an outlet

dawn moth
#

It's actually not live at all

forest edge
#

older homes always have stuff that dosen't make sense to the next home owners.

#

inspections pass because as you said, the wires aren't live

dawn moth
#

Well the plugs on the wall will one, two, three, four coax connections aren't live either so I'm assuming that wasn't intentional 😅

forest edge
#

well if it's an older home it likely had an external antenna at one point for tv. as cable came available the older coax iterations were no longer able to be used with it so when someone switched from old OTA to cable the cable providers would just externally run new coax to whatever locations the homeowner was willing to pay for

dawn moth
dawn moth
# forest edge well if it's an older home it likely had an external antenna at one point for tv...

Well out here the only kind of coax available is satellite.

I set one up for the heck of it and used the dual wall port for the coax run.. (don't use it anymore was more of s curiosity driven project.)

When I was running poe cameras under the decks I noticed alot of coax lines, I'm assuming he installed multiple set-top boxes in the same room two for redundancy, the extra port probably goes upstairs for a slave box in the bedroom as there's also one there, for the coax in the opposite room it's lines are damaged, definitely was satellite internet as it goes out to a viasat 1 dish which I've recently recycled

forest edge
#

sat tv not internet likely. sat internet is even expensive these days and costs more back then

dawn moth
#

Putting a satellite dish for TV though just for the heck of it was only worth it because I got lte link hardware cheaper in a bundle deal, talked the installer in to letting me handle the infrastructure.

Which I had to self build out a couple of towers on the property to just get a internet signal

#

Canceled the TV in the first month.

#

Another peculiar find was a 14-50 nema outlet just sitting under mounted on floor under the stairs in a extra room

#

It's currently live

Update for anyone who was curious

#

The sonoff ZBmini seems to work flawlessly, using it as a power switch for my Wyze Video Doorbell.

Gonna pick up a white cover tomorrow, the extra wire just ended up being taped off, current running theory is that it was a unused or removed second bell chime.

The sonoff doesn't need anything connected to the switch terminals, I have 24-28v AC coming in Neutral and hot to their respective input terminals and the Neutral and hot with a resistor heading to the respective output terminals.

It took a little bit for my tubeszb coordinator to pick it up since it's a tad far away, but it eventually did and works with less then a MS of delay.

The wyze video doorbell reconnects to my backhaul ap right away, the delay on wyze's side is less then a minute.

This allows me to cycle the power if the wyze doorbell decides to get tricky even if I'm away.. which is prone to happen alot.

I'm also logging each state change and the duration since previous state change.

I did not need to put the device in pairing mode, by default it's state is set to off, and it automatically enters pairing mode without any intervention.

I am here since march

#

Euh

#

I think the battery lasted 6-8 months or so?

solar zealot
#

hm alright

red rock
#

And the sensors are still okay i think

solar zealot
#

oh god i just saw the prices

red rock
#

I still have a few laying around lol

crisp thicket
#

Hi everyone new here. I'm thinking about moving over from Homeseer and was wonder if anyone else has moved over and how do you like HA.

red rock
#

I mean, looking at the time I spent on it, I love it

solar zealot
#

looking at their website, it will be a visual blast

#

the question probably would be how easy is migrating

primal laurel
#

im not a homeseer user, but I know HA is better 🙂

solar zealot
#

we are not paid, just biased

crisp thicket
#

Will I be able to import the devices from my zwave stick or need to go through that whole binding process again?

crisp thicket
red rock
#

Oh and I got a new powerbank

iron granite
#

Is it integrated in HA with NUT?

primal laurel
#

it's naked

red rock
iron granite
#

But... but... but... how do you control it?

solar zealot
#

this needs esphome

red rock
#

Lmao

#

Oh and it's the exact same size as my

trim glacier
#

hihi

red rock
#

Lmao

primal laurel
#

does it have USB-PD tho?

red rock
#

It should have iirc

#

It has a discord link on the box

#

Lol

#

170W max output with PD 3.1 140W max single-port output. Powers up your devices in no time. 140W max input games up recharging from 0%-50% within only 20 mins. Pass-through charging helps power your devices while being recharged.

solar zealot
#

... how much was it

red rock
#

$119

#

24.000 mAh

solar zealot
#

thats a lot of money for electricity

red rock
#

And I unexpectedly got another powerbank

#

So now I have 4

# red rock

I have a similar one that I got about a year ago!

#

Only does upto 100w though

red rock

red rock
#

hold up do I have this too

#

oh I can only set low current mode

primal laurel
#

Low current mode?

red rock
#

Low-current devices such as wireless earbuds, smartwatches, and wristbands usually require low power to get charged. Most powerbanks are not able to fully charge such devices because the outputs do not meet the minimum current threshold or poor power management.

And we do not bail on such devices. With Low-current Mode, Shargeek 170 provides safe and optimized charging for your earbuds, smartwatches, or wristbands to full capacity

#

A lot of those devices do charge with less than 5w

#

But that's been a thing on "dumb" chargers, so can we really sell it as feature

#

kinda impressive how this isnt even standard on phone chargers anymore

solar zealot
#

oh no

#

one of my shelly plugs might have died

#

There go 30 bucks

#

At least that's some interesting data. They work fine both on the dryer and the washing machine but not on the dishwasher

primal laurel
solar zealot
#

Now the question would be, do I go for a 16A Shelly or an A1Z

primal laurel
#

You also need that when your phone's battery is at 0%

slate sail
#

Hello, I'm having some issues with the skyconenct usb on a Rasberry Pi 5, whats the correct chat to look for support?

solar zealot
slate sail
#

Thank you :0

#

🙂

solar zealot
#

how bad of an idea would it be to move the statistics from one sensor to another by replacing the statistics_meta id on the old statistics entries

ocean oar
#

Let me know if you try it and find out. I've got a whole lot of my sensors which are configured by a semi-manual MQTT discovery process that I want to "rename" but keep the history for

solar zealot
#

Will do

primal laurel
solar zealot
#

Ive seen that but renaming stuff back and fourth to move statistics feels somewhat weird

#

maybe we could wish for a more easy to use feature for this

primal laurel
#

at least for people who prefer the UI and think SQL is scary, like me

solar zealot
#

Yea

#

I see your point

clear ferry
#

heh, almost all busses in oslo are EV

#

but in the current -31c around temps their range is around 140km instead of 250

ocean oar
#

Apparently our EV buses are specced for 350km.

#

At an actually somewhat impressive 1kWh/km (350.1kWh battery)

#

What I didn't realise - and seems somewhat stupid - is they have a single level bus with 75 seats, but somehow the double-decker only seats 90

#

Like at that point why bother? Just pick the smaller one and run them slightly more frequently

clear ferry
#

Yeah, public transport is big in norway, but i haven't taken a bus in 14 years
