in google not that much info is given

umbral cliff

Well people will want money to be that helper

grand onyx

hmm

#

no i am going to code all of this

#

i need like recommendation of what language, softwares should i use

dusky plank
#

depending on the interactability of this UI (I only see a 2d image with buttons now, no fancy animations) and counting in that you are just starting with programming I'd suggest taking a good read on html & php. html and js will make your interface while php talks to your backend (HA). I say php because it is very easy and you can have interfaces talking to ha fast.

#

take any generic nginx-php container and have all of it in one place without knowing too much about application programming

prisma briar
# grand onyx when i click the spotify button it opens spotify in the dashboard to play songs...

Yea, making that as a web page is probably going to be the way to go.

Not going to lie, the questions you're asking are basic enough that people are going to be hesitant to help you because it doesn't seem like you've done anything to help yourself yet. People are happy to help answer questions, but if you want to be taught the fundamentals of programming you're better off finding a tutorial/video series or taking a class. A lot of people here might know how to code but that doesn't mean that they're effective teachers, or that they want to spend their days teaching you for free.

#

What you want to do isn't that difficult though, and would likely be a good beginner project.

umbral cliff
#

I can barely explain it to myself let alone someone else

prisma briar

clear ferry
#

Btw, does your XC60 have air suspension? It's always funny when my wife tries to open the door but I'm too far away with the keys, and the car just farts when she tries to open it

#

The air suspension just slightly readjusts or something

glacial knot
#

I don't think so. Never noticed it at least

clear ferry
#

You know if you have air suspension

#

Since it raises the car when you start driving

glacial knot
#

none of that, no

clear ferry
#

Well, if you enable it, mine lowers and raises 10-15cm or so depending on weight

#

And I've set it to go to lowest setting when I park for easy entry

#

Quite handy with kids, or else I would have to lift my eldest for entry

#

Thanks discord for sharing it twice

glacial knot
#

Now I'm unsure whether the XC90 defaults to being higher than the XC60
I'll have to pay attention when I see both next time

clear ferry
#

The xc90 without air suspension is the highest one at all times i think

#

When I put it in power mode it goes into lowest air setting and gives me all 410bhp immediately without any lag or switching between electric/petrol

#

T8 is almost always air suspension in my experience from looking before buying

#

And probably 80% of all xc90s are T8 here

I have this "basic" netgear switch. Does this limited config UI mean that I cannot create a trunk-based port? Essentially I want to have port 1-4 configured as different VLANs, and then port 5 is reserved for being plugged into the PFSense router, so it is to my understanding that I need my switch's port 5 as a trunk port, then I will set up a VLAN 5 interface in PFSense

scenic radish
#

what does the 802.1Q section show? i'd imagine it has an option to make port 5 a trunk port

sand agate
wise garden
#

I ended up finding out that I want to do 802.1Q instead of port based. It seems that I have the ability to untag/tag ports in this section versus port based. Now playing around with trying to setup my port membership properly and also setting up my interfaces in PFSense but ended up bringing my network down in the process, I think I have a subnet issue.

cold marlin
#

anyone want to tell me if i'm going to run into issues using an ethernet adapter for my laptop server? right now, when i play something on plex, it nearly kills the system, and i think it's because of the wifi device getting overwhelmed.

#

and yes, everyone probably could have seen that coming

glacial knot
#

I hope it's in a shoe carton. For reasons

#

USB ethernet tends to suck. If it's not USB3 it's likely even worse than wifi

#

but it can be ok, if you are actually limited by your wire speed and got USB3 to work with

cold marlin
#

it is usb3, only a couple years old

#

are the wireless and usb devices usually sharing resources?

#

it is not in a shoe carton, lol

glacial knot
#

bummer

cold marlin
#

i have an external HD that i'm running the movies from, so i'm hoping using separate ports will make it... function

glacial knot
#

they share CPU of course. But no, wifi tends to be on PCIe, unless you got something weird

cold marlin
#

cheers, thanks

#

does my diagnosis seem logical? pushing max upload on wireless killing it?

or is this just reality with HD video on a laptop

glacial knot
#

depends on your wifi config. It shouldn't be too much of a bottleneck, but depending on how much interference there is at your place it might be

clever mortar
#

Depends on what "nearly kills the system" means

#

WiFi may not be helping, but it may be a CPU or RAM issue, or even a pure I/O issue

cold marlin
#

it's hard to diagnose because i can't even ssh

#

basically nothing is available. usually it will come back to earth, but i have had to reboot

clever mortar
#

Install netdata and then you can check the historical stats

cold marlin
#

i actually have it installed

#

nothing looking pegged that i can see

clever mortar
#

Then you can check and see what's going on, and if it's all blank you know the system was brought down

cold marlin
#

didn't actually come down last night

clever mortar
#

If things are otherwise fine, check the network graphs, and the softirq and iowait graphs

cold marlin
#

thanks, looks like iowait maxed at 25%

clever mortar
#

That's ... not great, but probably not enough to totally bring it down

cold marlin

plex peaked at 80% total cpu

#

pgfault 70MiB/s, not sure of the implication of that

wise garden
# finite atlas 5 port 1 gbit switch?

if I want to have 1-4 of 5port netgear switch be each it's own VLAN, do I create 4 VLAN IDs in the Netgear config UI with it's respective port being "untagged"? (e.g. VLAN 1 -> port 1 is untagged and all other ports don't have U/T assigned to it, VLAN 2 -> port 2 untagged , etc.) then VLAN 5 has T for all 5 ports and VLAN 5 is plugged into pfsense NIC

scenic radish
#

depends on if the traffic going into those ports will be tagged or untagged

#

if they're meant as access ports (i.e., for connecting clients like desktops) then yes, untagged is what you want

wise garden
#

one port will be an access point. one port is for IoT devices. another port will be hard wired PC. This is the reason why I want them on it's own VLAN. It is to my understanding that this data will be untagged until it reaches the switch port then it gets tagged and sent to pfsense to go into proper vlan? still learning

scenic radish
#

if the access point isn't configured to tag traffic, then yes, frames will arrive to the switch untagged

#

my APs are all on trunk ports because they have multiple SSIDs that tag traffic differently (e.g., the main SSID is one VLAN, the IoT SSID is a different VLAN, etc)

wise garden
#

yeah, my AP isn't configured to tag anything. everything on my AP I want in one VLAN so I figured I will just have that done at the switch layer and not the AP level

cold marlin
#

not that anyone is asking, but apparently using the browser to play videos murders the cpu, playing via the app prevents the need for transcoding

glacial knot
#

ahh, yes. Transcoding will run a laptop into the ground

#

especially with plex which doesn't do hardware accell unless you pay for it^^

cold marlin
#

didn't realize i was transcoding

as i had set to max quality to avoid it

finite atlas

I'm planning on putting an esp8266 in my original xbox so I can turn it on/off without getting up.

#

I've got IR control of my PS2, smart outlets for my Dreamcast/SNES/Genesis/N64, and an integration for my Xbox One. Nothing for my Wii U or Switch though.

clear ferry
#

Isn't both just Bluetooth?

#

Something should be possible

prisma briar
#

Looks like there's an esp32 joycon emulator

#

That could probably do it for the Switch

#

I'm not going to waste an esp32 for that though

clear ferry
#

Wasting a $2 esp?

prisma briar
#

If I want to play the Switch I'm going to need a controller that can already turn it on/off in my hand anyways.

#

I wouldn't have bothered with controlling my Xbox One if it had taken more than 30 seconds to set up.

#

I have wireless controllers for my Dreamcast/Genesis/SNES/N64/PS2 but they can't turn the systems on.

clear ferry
#

I just live in CEC world, if I want to play a console I just press the controller and TV fixes everything itself

prisma briar
#

My Switch will do CEC, nothing else I have does

clear ferry
#

Are there any good wireless controller for ps2 i wonder

#

Main reason I don't use it tbh

prisma briar
#

I built a bluetooth adapter and am just using PS4 dualshock 4's.

clear ferry
#

Interesting

prisma briar
#

I was going to use PS3 controllers but all my PS3 controllers were fake and trying to identify which ones were real or not from online listings was basically impossible.

#

And for some reason BlueRetro won't work with fake ones

#

PS3 controllers got counterfeited hard

clear ferry
#

Yeah, the PS4 controller is superior to the ps3 one anyway imho

#

I haven't tried the ps5 yet

umbral cliff
prisma briar
#

For my use I could do without the trackpad on the PS4 controllers, but I See how it's useful on the actual system.

prisma briar
#

I'm not that worried about CEC/changing inputs, I can control my receiver/AV switch/TV from Home Assistant. My TV has an integration and I have an esp32 to transmit IR codes for the rest.

clear ferry
#

Made me think of you @umbral cliff

prisma briar
#

My TV turns my receiver on/adjusts it's volume with CEC, that's the only thing I use it for.

Can this be right

#

Can my house only draw 100w

clear ferry
#

Unlikely with 9kw draw so far today

versed bone
#

That's like total

#

No for today

clear ferry

@last cedar is tibber doing 1.5 months bill in Sweden too now? Only 11.5k nok power bill

versed bone

clear ferry

My lowest house draw I've ever seen is 950w

#

With everyone in bed

versed bone

Could be the threshold in the meter

Wife turned on coffe maker

30m2 apartment?

82m2

Water radiators

prisma briar
#

If all he's running is lights and a fridge and basic home networking equipment I could see his draw only being a few hundred watts

last cedar
#

Most of our consumption was from the clmputers

#

So it hasn't gone up a lot moving to a house

My computer is off

I remember turning off my workstation

In 1996

Obviously we heat our own water now

ROFL

versed bone

I turn it off by the psu

#

Cause it keeps turning on when i turn it off

clear ferry
#

I remember it because we got docsis in 97 and I started running servers at home

last cedar
#

I did notice though, ftx has increased power usage a bit, it heats the air up to the right temp, if recycling isn't wnough, 3C outside is pulling some signigicant amount of electric

#

That is my largest consumption I added this year

clear ferry
#

Even with my excessive power usage for servers I'm still better than average @last cedar

#

Apparently the average house pulls 70kwh per day

versed bone
#

Like rn. Something is using 1000kw

#

And it's down to 180w

#

I use this

clear ferry
#

I use the HAN port of my meter for real time data

versed bone
#

I don't have thst

clear ferry
#

All norwegian homes had their meters replaced in 2019 and we are allowed by law to use the port to monitor our own power usage πŸ˜„

versed bone
#

Yeah i don't have that meter inside the home

#

Its down in the basement

clear ferry
#

Strange swedish stuff πŸ˜„

versed bone
#

Yep

#

Else that would be soooo easy

clear ferry
#

like the americans that have their meters on the outside of the house for anyone to turn off

versed bone
#

I really wonder if it's accurate

#

Vacuum cleaner pulls 1500w wich is correct

#

It doesn't update correctly

#

Yesterday i drew 8kwh

#

But that's not 24h

#

@clear ferry this is from the electric company

#

I would say that's accurate

umbral cliff
clear ferry
#

Sounds accurate for a small apartment @versed bone

versed bone
#

I have a rack with an r720 and shit

Since it was enforced country wide here it was very easy to get access @umbral cliff

interesting new financial stuff in the budget for next year, half the country will have free kindergarten, the rest will have free for the third child

umbral cliff

#

I used 400kwh whole September

umbral cliff
#

Haven't checked in Canberra as our meter is too far away, they're all together with everyones from the apartment block

clear ferry

I use somewhere around 1500-3500kwh per month

#

Depending on temperature

-35 makes power go brrrrr
