Since it's not in the blog, I wanted to make sure I posted in here something that I talked about during the release stream yesterday!
Discord changes are coming! Yes, change is hard, but I promise I am trying to make it as smooth as possible - not an easy feat when I have to appease 130,000 members. ๐ I am currently working on improved roles with icons (just to mess with your object permanence), adding in forum channels where they make sense, implement a "show off" channel (much like the one in the ESPHome server), adding in more off topic channels (with specific topics), and adding in a welcome onboarding page. This really is just an overview of what will happen.
What does this mean? When will this happen? Well, since @ruby pebble forced me into committing to a date on stream yesterday ๐ฌ, changes will likely be in mid-June. I will need to shut down the server for a day as I move people from one role to their new equivalent and make the necessary channel changes. Based on server activity this year, we're the least active here on Sundays, so the change will happen on a Sunday. Lastly, I will give about a week's notice when the shut down will happen.
Questions? Ask me in #the-water-cooler! I'll answer the best I can - but know that I am still working on the initial draft of changes and things could shift.

In case you missed the live stream, the Voice Chapter 7 blog is up!
SURPRISE! ๐ฌ I am making a few changes to the server today ahead of the full revamp. I am shutting down the DEVELOPMENT category and implementing the changes I have designed over the course of the next hour or so. I recognize this may interrupt conversations, I'll let you know how to continue those. I will update this post once changes are complete.
BUT WHY???
This was requested by Frenck for a small quality of life improvement here for the developers. The change is relatively quick, only requiring me to lock down the old channels and implement the new ones.
Where are the rest of the changes? I thought they would be done by now!
Well, yes, so did I. Unfortunately some sickness and time off impacted what I could complete and set me back a bit. I feel Iโm on track to have things completed in a couple weeks now, but itโs still a rough date.
Whatโs next?
Once the change is complete, I will post in the newly created announcement channel for developers what changes were made. This should help yโall understand where things went and reduce any confusion around the change. That does not mean, however, that people wonโt be confused - please remember some community members arenโt as plugged in as others. :3 We do expect that some conversations will be interrupted in this process but believe a little pain for this change is acceptable.
I appreciate everyoneโs ongoing patience and understanding with this process! To keep you distracted while I make these changes, check out the spontaneous redesign of our home page and drop feedback in โ #the-water-cooler. I know itโs been a long while, but itโs getting quite close to being ready and I am so excited to get things implemented soon. ๐
**EDIT: IT'S DONE! **Head over to #developers to check out the new changes.

๐๐ป Hi, everyone! Weโre switching some things up with the 2025.6 release.
tl;dr - 2025.6 beta testing will be from May 26th to June 11th; 2025.6 release is moving from June 4th to the 11th.
This month, instead of starting the beta a week ahead of release on Wednesday, weโre starting it 2 days earlier on Monday the 26th. But thatโs not all - weโre also extending the beta testing period for the 2025.6 release! Instead of releasing our monthly build on the first Wednesday, weโll be releasing 2025.6 a week later on June 11th.
This means 11 extra days of beta testing! ๐๐ป
Why the change?
Well, the Open Home Foundation is hosting a summit in Dublin, Ireland during the first week of June! ๐ We didnโt want to skip this release because of it, but we also didnโt want to make it feel rushed as we gather together in person. We felt like that wouldnโt be fair to yโall.
See yโall in the #beta channel on Monday! ๐๐ป

The Open Home Foundation / Home Assistant team is running a research study to better understand peopleโs opinions on the โWorks with โฆโ compatibility badges on smart home products.
Weโre looking to interview people and gather insights that will help us improve how compatibility is communicated, so that the badges are clearer for users.
The interviews are online, take ~1 hour, and are focused on your opinions and expectations (no technical knowledge required).
If youโre interested in participating, please fill out this short form.
Weโre interested in hearing from smart home users as well as people who live in a smart home but are not the main person setting things up (for example: partners, family members, or housemates)
If you live with someone like that, weโd really appreciate it if you share this with them as well - their perspective is valuable and often underrepresented.
Thanks for your time and hoping to hear from you!

Home Assistant
We now have 445 translators helping out and the frontend is receiving some polishing.
We are concerned with the FCC plans to end Net Neutrality. The internet should be treated as utility and not favor companies that pay money. Imagine having to pay to access Home Assistant remotely?! We need an equal playing field for innovation to thrive https://t.co/fhy5jGlKX1
Home Assistant Cloud users: a misconfiguration will cause the cloud to stop working after 30 days. We have fixed the config but can't fix existing setups. Do these steps:
Alexa: disable and re-enable the skill and log back in
Home Assistant: log out of the cloud and log back in.
The time has come! Home Assistant 0.64, to be released in 2.5 weeks, will be the last version to support Python 3.4. More info here: https://t.co/6safDlzCiV

In Home Assistant 0.69 we introduced the foundation for a new authentication API. We're switching from a single hardcoded API password to a refresh/access token based authentication system (powered by OAuth2).
We have released brand new images for https://t.co/pP2uPyq8FO based on our new specialized operating system HassOS. Supports all old devices + Raspberry Pi 3 B+ (and more to come). Easy future updates and maximal security.
Hi @here, if you were in #331895494844481548, #371340912078356502 or #botspam, we have now restricted those channels to anyone holding the Other rank. You can add the rank to your own profile by saying ?rank Other in any channel (preferably #the-water-cooler, sorry loungers!) with @vapid thistle. We are launching a data science portal to teach you how you can learn from your own smart home data. We explain what data is stored, and offer tools to learn and explore your data. In 15 minutes you setup a local data science environment running reports.
We have worked hard on a smooth experience. Single click to setup a local data science environment powered by Jupyter. Pre-installed with our Getting Started notebook for Home Assistant, automatically connects to your database and generates reports with a single click.
All of this is powered by the new JupyterLab hass.io add-on by frenck and the new HASS Data Detective Python package by robmarkcole.
Today is only the start. We will continue to develop the data tools for Home Assistant. Itโs our goal to make Home Assistant the easiest platform to use for data scientists interested in home automation.
Live your life.
Learn from the data of your life.
Improve your life.
Contribute knowledge back to the community.
Improve everyones life.
repeat.
https://data.home-assistant.io/blog/2018/12/27/data-science-for-home-assistant-launched
TL;DR: Today we launch a new data portal to get users up and running with their own data science environment running their first reports in 15 minutes. Get started.
Home Assistant 0.86 makes Lovelace UI the default. With Lovelace you can custom build and tweak every aspect of the UI. It comes with 24 built-in cards and an editor UI.

We have just submitted 2020.5.1 for App Store and TestFlight review with fixes for the two previously mentioned issues as well as a few other things. It should be available soon. In the meantime, you will continue to see 2020.5 in the App Store since most users arenโt affecte...
