Except someone who already bought one XD
It’s a MacroPad then
I did , but I would be verrrrry happpy. lol
Yeah
Question: Does Adafruit make PCBs in-house, or have them made elsewhere and shipped in for assembly?
Guess I should cancel it again. Lol.
(Please note "an AdaBox" is not necessarily a fixed unit of measure)
that must be a hint
:O I thought it was! The plot thickens!
Now JP is sneaky
🙂
(OK, they do tend to be the same size)
Disney's Adafruit Museum is nearing completion!
loving the nasa font for the macropad
i can't wait to go back to NY
That’s the Adabox I guess
Question: if I'm ever in NYC, can I take you two out to dinner? :O
same I had it all booked and had to cancel last April
haha. I worked there over 11 years. It was great.
It's kindof a shame that the art is on the bottom where you may never, or at least rarely, see it
I do believe Adafruit should not sell products before they launch in Adabox.
The music is always dope in the 3D printing videos
Right?! And when I do get my hands on one, not sure which one I want to make visible...
I just bought the Adabox subsciption. I'm excited.
Sylvie crown :D
Sometimes it works out great - like if I accidentally desoldered one of the pads on my matrix portal and the next box had a matrixportal in it
lol
Sylvie goofed
NO SPOILERS
Ok
Mmm, connectors
Mmmm
If you absolutely must talk about spoilers, you should tag it as a spoiler and what show/episode it spoils -- like Loki S1E1 spoiler ||things happened|| and it'll make it a black bar like ||this||
I thought you were gonna spoil the finale, lol
What finale
Loki
Loki
Oh Loki….that guy from Thor right?
yelp
Super cool cables
... I guess you haven't been watching the show and don't know who Sylvie is, lol
I watched it....but, I'm not saying anything
Very excite to watch the finale! Right after this!
If I had a shop to cut boxes properly, these could be real nice for outdoor RPi projects...
I wish I had a shop
....(crickets)
@teal river A workshop is wherever you set your soldering iron.
Those are very nice cables
I mean, that can be ANYWHERE with my USB soldering iron, lol
I can set up shop in your yard
You got it! Exactly 🙂
Or my gas powered soldering iron
But does it heat up and cool down in seconds?!
New
I've done work on fancy electronics workbenches -- and I've done equally important work on folding plastic tables from Walmart that I swear had a folder paper plate as a leveling shim.

It is just really nice to have a dedicated place for projects with storage
I wish I had waited to get relegendable keycaps now XD
It easily heats up in seconds, it produces about 200 watts of heat, but it doesn't cool down nearly as quickly. I do have one of the NiCad powered ones that heats and cools fast (there's a story there). I also have one of the Cold Heat ones that heats and cools near instantly, but it has ... drawbacks.

I get where you're coming from. I live out of Plano toolboxes and Sterlite storage containers.
I'm using those keycaps for my MicroMacroPad for work!

Heh, that works too. I just have crap all over my house, some in toolcases, some in boxes, some on desks and tables

Some 2-part resins may also bond to the silicone mold! Gotta me careful!
There are several possible approaches for organization
it'll be a good idea to post organizing solutions. because I'm struggling..lol

wait... there are solutions to my organizational problems?
Lol yes
There are a lot of ways -- some folks use bins [like madbodger showed], you can get little sets of drawer bins, or you can get trays with separators and a chart of what's where... Might want to browse The Container Store for things that call to you
I copied Adam Savage's idea for organizing tools
ohh, I forgot.. I loved the container store in Jersey.

Back in my day, if you wanted a mechanical keyboard, you had to purchase a massive IBM Model M Keyboard but now you can DIY your very own compact keyboards with your very favorite ...
These types of drawer bins are pretty common
I want
@teal river I have a version of that.
I just got one of those, it really helped
seen them on amazon
not as good though
Amazon.com: Akro-Mils 64 Drawer 10164, Plastic Parts Storage Hardware and Craft Cabinet, (20-Inch W x 6-Inch D x 16-Inch H), Black (1-Pack): Home Improvement
I don't have a photo, but I use Plano toolboxes from Home Depot (~$14 each) + Sterlite clear storage containers from your local big box store (with latches that come up over the sides of the lid -- snap-on ones just don't work well) .
It's economical, and easy to label with a sharpie marker and/or 3x5 index card.
For smaller non-static sensitive parts (like small machine screws), I use Plano small parts organizers you can find in the fishing section of your local big-box stores.

Adafruit TCA4307 Hot-Swap I2C Buffer with Stuck Bus Recovery - STEMMA QT / Qwiic https://www.adafruit.com/product/5159
My solution isn't the best (though that's relative), but it's easy to transport & relocate....and it's very easy to swap things around unlike a more bespoke solution.
Oohhhh
I have Craftsman VersaStack cases for some stuff -- you can get many different components, they stack together, and you can build your own custom set of storage. There are parts that are like a traditional toolbox, or sets of drawers with separators, or a big bin, something like a briefcase, a rolling bin that will let you roll everything around... They're super nice. Plus they're water[proof/resistant?], dustproof, so no worries about getting caught in the rain
NeoKey 5x6 Ortho Snap-Apart Mechanical Key Switches w/ NeoPixel - For MX Compatible Switches https://www.adafruit.com/product/5157
Oh My Sooo many Buttahns!
PREMATRIXED!
I have a few of those @teal river, as well as Harbor Freight version of them + Ridgid version of them. Haven't decided on a winner yet 😉
I'll have to get one to make sure you can press all 30 buttons at once with circuitpython
Question about the Ortho Snap-Apart: How sturdy is the board if you want to use it without snapping?
I'll have to look at the VersaStack, because I'd like something like Systainer, but less crushingly expensive
Heh. The VersaStack is pretty costly... But I feel like I've gotten my money's worth, they're VERY sturdy. I think I'll have them for many years to come
Indeed! It'd be a good test to perform with all 30 fingers!
....wait, 10 fingers! I meant to say ten fingers! 👽 Totally human here.
"Choose a password with at least 30 different letters"
@teal river I think there are little spots for securing it with screws; you probably don't want to have it be able to flex if you can avoid it
@prime sentinel can I use klingon letters?
the versastacks look good
@woeful pond They're great, and they interlock with some of the Craftsman tool storage boxes. Likewise goes with Dewalt's clear boxes and Ridgid's clear boxes -- each works with their corresponding system.
I love interlocks and being able to change it up
Question: Hint for Adabox? Hint hint hint hint.
@pearl cairnbox Hint?????????
Suddenly, audio clipping
Milwaukee also makes similar storage, but at like 2x-3x the cost of Craftsman. Which it's great if cost isn't a factor.
@open girder ADABOX.......HINT?
hard clipping
It'll be a box containing adafruit components, methinks. Probably something that runs on some sort of electricity.
@open girder AdaBox hint plz... Also clipping, very harsh clipping
crispu
Q: Is it OK for use Arduino or Feather hardware and software in something that you sell? Is there anything you need to do with this approach?
@ionic garnet on Mr Ladyada's Mic
OctoSquid?
Treinky
There was a strong hint in their made in NY video near the end
I’m so sad they missed this
Question for the show: The TCA4307 Hot-Swap I2C Buffer js it possible with Ardunio code to Query if the TCA4307 is in fact attached in the I2C wiring ? Reason would be to code to “check wiring” before use error message
Octo Squid? Naaah
But squid or octopus makes more sens for eInk
OctoPanda
Panda FTW
OctoPanda sounds fun XD
Hinty hint hint
Pandalopod
Orcas are beautiful. Used to see them in Pacific Northwest often
Optics are haaard
nice graphics
starts chanting Panda
It's hard to keep optics projects in focus.
QUESTION: What's your prediction of chip shortages going forward?
Having made my own PCBs, I can understand why you'd say you don't want to do it XD
[QUESTION} Will you be getting any more of the NEMA 23 motors in, or are they history?
@dim knot they will happen. 😉 🙃
Doctor, I agree
Question: What's your favorite magazine cover you've been on?
oof... what happened there?
New Trinkey mascot idea: Long Furby
@prime sentinel You're bringing back bad memories...Lol
Failed toner transfer 😦
vote for Inkey Trinkey squid
Ignoring Adabox hints. I see how it is. 😆
Q Is there a way to multiplex 8 or more serial ports into a micro? Is there a mux for that?
haha
QUESTION: Is lady Ada going to finish looking at the python stubs for CircuitPython like Micropython does it and Will she look at Visual Studio Code and Circuitpython as a editing enviroment.
OK i'm gonna feed "Long Furby" into your AI nightmare artist thing PT
you heard it, she said EEL-lectronics. next Adabox is a new pet!
Okay question: any plans to work with the ESP32-C3 now that modules are available (currently out of stock on Digi-Key)
lol
Good Hint Thanks Lady Ada!!! Would Never have guessed it would have Electronicks!
Question: Is there a way to multiplex 8 or more serial ports into a micro? Is there a mux for that?
Runs circuit python too
Good show!
Thank you for your time
Thank you all

thanks for a great evening of shows!
Thx @quick veldt , You're thr TOP
Thanks all! Happy Wednesday!
Bye bye
Thanks @open girder and good night. 🌒
Great shows everybody, patiently (or not) awaiting my Adabox
there's a rumor that a MarcoPad is in the Adabox
I JUST signed up
Tell LadyAda the hair is great

Great show 🙂
Someone remind me next week to ask PT why he pronounces Zener funny :P

I'm terrified what the AI generator will find for "lars the evil monster that haunts my dreams and I'm sure lurks outside my window at night."
Probably something with flowers
Lars lives in all our dreams
So that's where he's hiding.
I think it has huge potential to both be good and bad
I’m not terribly fond of the consolidation of large tech because it just isn’t all that great for innovation and it definitely stifles an overall competitive atmosphere.
Last news I heard they still have not got approval for the aquistion
They’ve cleared most all the hurdles last I saw except an antitrust challenge in the UK
Yeah, not quite, but I think they will
I think more good than bad - maybe a new Jetson-like board that's cheaper??
There is a lot of pressure in the UK to not allow it, we will see what happens.
I hope they allow it
Looks like a few major companies have backed the deal
Even though NVIDIA isn't open source
I'm a firm believer that competition is good for the consumer. It promotes fair pricing, innovation, and fosters a drive to listen to the consumer's needs.
But it definitely would create a huge shift in the chip arena which has the potential to muck up the waters a bit
yep
It would
NVIDIA’s argument to inject its tech into ARM could easily be done through partnerships and avoid acquisitions
Me too. But I'm looking for some cool stuff from them with the ARM tech
Yeah, but it would be SUPER SLOW/expensive - maybe
But as more chip makers consolidate, I’m starting to bet a lot more open source semiconductors and open fpga
I think transparency would be much better
I hope so
I also found out the other day that the Micron fab that TI bought is right up the road from me
In Lehi, UT
Yeah I read about that the other day
Good ole silicon slopes
On the one hand, nVidia can upgrade their GPU servers to ARM cores. On the other hand, the Apple - nVidia feud could get interesting now that Apple has transitioned to ARM.
early to the show...
Good afternoon all you wonderful followers of Lars' Workshop!
all toebeans all the time

Ello, hope he left long furby somewhere else.
I sense Bleeps and Bloops may be incoming...

Soooo excited!
AHHH MY ADABOX019 IS PREPARING FOR SHIPMENT
Noice.
@teal river
macropad midi way
Very spooky...
sun is spooky too, can hide and still have shining
For anyone looking for rainbow it's been renamed to rainbowio and is in the bleeding edge '7'. It will be in the next alpha or beta
Play "naive melody"😋
Question about the rotation... Can you change that on the fly, or you set it and it sticks? And if you do 90 or 270 so it's 4x3 instead of 3x4, how does that impact key order vs. your code?
Macropad + VS1053b via midi. Lots of general MIDI instruments and some FX
I wish I understood synths, lol
@teal river you can change display rotation on the fly but you'll need to change your graphics layout. it doesn't change keyboard layout
soon Doctor is doctor of synths as well
I guess it wouldn't be too complicated to make it auto-shift the layout for 90/270...
I just don't don't understand why you guys are using a keypad
Hopefully XD
Lars isn't upside down. We're the ones who are upside down.
Which explains a lot of how today went, but that's neither here nor there 😛
I think Kattni might be busy doing CP7 stuff
Everyone uses the piano keyboard we train on pianos since like 9 years old, maybe you guys can emulate a clarinet or saxophone but a pre-existing instrument makes it easier
I think using when displayio and some clever Group arrangement you could define a square region and a "side" region that maybe goes top & bottom
@raven hawk It's easier than using an elephant...
Lars can have power of macropad but does Lars need bigger macroPad midi
lol
Shin yuh
The best place for the MacroPad's art would be attached to a clear window or something, so you can see it!
oh I'm wrong. The macropad library appears to change the key and neopixel layout too, not just display layout! (that's pretty cool @clear matrix !)
Here's docs for macropad library and its rotation parameter: https://circuitpython.readthedocs.io/projects/macropad/en/latest/api.html
🎵 turn the macropad around -- love to hear the percussion -- turn it upside down -- look at the space art 🎵
Come on, you think I'd do half? 😛
Imagine if the MacroPad had USB ports on all sides so you can have it "on top" in any orientation
I used to have a MIDI guitar, another instrument you play with the guitar is the pedals, and pedals work with horns and woodwind emulators too
The PixelMap code was a bit of a beast and took some fixing, but I think it was worth it.
Simple rotation!
Yay rotation!
Hi, @clear matrix
Hey @lavish patrol
Kattni da best!
Yes, the rotation of keys + leds + display is super handy because people have different needs about where a USB cable should come out of a device
For sure. And maybe you want a 4x3 instead. Etc.
Ah, math.
Is there an I2C slider board? 'cuz that could go on the side with a 3D printed bracket to give more controls
It's hard to learn new synthesizers
Especially when you know no synths!
This is my favorite sequencer synthesizer (this is a classic).
it looks like he is designing a lead synth though it's very different
I know next to nothing about synths, lol
not a slider, but there are I2C rotary encoders that will plug right in https://www.adafruit.com/product/4991
cue the "girl from ipanema" hold music
MOAR ROTARIES!
those knobs work
Zoom, enhance
Avengers Enhance!
I'm gonna be an Avenger
Lol
I just searched it looks like Adafruit built a TB-303 clone
wow that's cool he is controlling the moog from it
Something I didn't catch -- is the MacroPad sending the MIDI instructions directly, or is there a software bridge that gets commands from the MacroPad and generates MIDI signals?
Just downloaded it 🙂
Macropad is sending USB MIDI directly. So it'll work on anything that accepts USB MIDI (iPads, Android, Macs, PCs, etc)
I have an x0xb0x right here
Cool workshop, @haughty quiver 😀 Many Bleeps and Bloops. 🎵

The Megaprocessor is a micro-processor built large. Very large. See and watch every detail of how computers work. And 10,000 LEDs.

when you are saying RISC five are you meaning RISC5 or RISC-V https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RISC5
RISC5 may refer to one of two different open instruction set architectures:

It does sound like RISC is coming into the lead -- even Intel is looking into more RISC stuff
I think the M1 is gonna help push RISC further into the limelight
RISC-V is great for sure
I do indeed come for the weed exploration XD
Spectre.

I just ran across Spectre flag to VS today
This is botany?
@timid plover RISC-V
I think Intel is a security vulnerability
brb need to unload cat from car
If you have repeating numbers like your 255s and 0s, is it a bad idea to make them consts? Are they already treated like consts internally?
I have returned from catto unloading
this show is really called 'following squirrels or down the rabbit hole'
lol
What if you instead used 255 * (packed & 1)?
So I'm totally lost XD
i do like compiler code generation errors.
repeating earlier question - is there a disassemble for micropython.native ?
BLAZE IT

building on the shoulders of giants
Well said @rapid hornet !
Our entire society is built on people building on each other's works!
Turtles, all the way down
On Sun hardware.
I learned that register window at university because we were studying the source code of solaris (I guess).
What's a register window?
An interesting feature of SPARC CPUs
Never played with SPARC
Dan Halbert "Co-invented the overlapping register windows mechanism used in the Berkeley RISC I processor chip, and later in the Sun Microsystems SPARC family of processors." <#risc-v message>
From memory, when you jump into a function, you want to access local variable and if they are CPU register, it goes faster. So the register window kind of slide and let new "register" be accessible.
But only a window of register are accessible.
From memory, the CPU has "input", "output", and "general/global" registers. After an instruction completes, the "output" registers become "input" registers for the next instruction.
In other words, the "window" into the full set of registers shifts
We need to invoque Danh!!! our memory might disagree.
To me it was strongly related to the code of function call and return.
his hand is everywhere
I think our recollections are compatible, just from different points of view (C programming vs assembler)
hmmmm
OMG that is so long ago... but my teacher was really fan of that and wanted everyone to know as it was one of the many possible question for the oral exam.
I think there were layers on that, so you could bump the window into a fresh set of registers for a subroutine call, and then put it back on return, and yet another layer where you could swap out the entire set in a single instruction for task switching (the SPARC was very fast at task switching if the number of tasks didn't exceed its number of per-task register banks)
For me it was at the beginning of Linux, before 1.0.
What is a mp_obj_t?
I was doing low-level stuff with Sun SPARC in the mid-late 1980s (I was working with the earlier 68k based Sun stuff in the early 1980s)
I still remember weird calls like *ROMP->stuff and hat_getkpfnum() (I was doing weird standalone diagnostics and rewriting the boot procedure)
LittleSmalltalk used similar scheme for small integers.
Video related question... is there anything else than micropython that emit micropython bytecode? Like at one point everyone was making JVM bytecode even not being java...
And anybody doing "hand written" bytecode to do something smart or super optimised?
When is 0x01 not 0x01? When it's a zero.
Is there a byte code to python "decompiler"?
MicroJimmo is awake
Woo another expert!
Need a 2nd keyboard for Taylor 😄
this is called team programming
Fantastic variable choices for printf("T") and printf("B")
This is x86 code?
3 heads is better than 2!
Hehe, adorable
I stepped away to get food, catching up XD
nice to see you re-using existing "objump" code from gnu binutils - very useful!
i thought thumb1 was 16bits and thumb2 could have 32 bit as well. probably wrong 🙂
I'm probably wrong
lol
At least you know what's going on XD
i am understanding it but couldnt replicate it. i used to do stuff like this at the console of a mainframe. way back. nothing like putting a breakpoint into a machine the size of a house.
I'm just totally lost, lol
i'm actually fascinated. shows how it works under the covers
I'm in a similar boat. I'm using this as a glimpse behind the curtain, so when I hit a weird bug, I'm more aware of what's going on under the hood. Doesn't all make sense now, but maybe later something will click and parts of this will suddenly make more sense. This is such an awesome deep dive
At the very least, I like hanging out and chatting!
We have gotten into the submersible from The Abyss
this is really deep dive
I'm following along - this is good -
The deepest dive
It'll all make sense on the 12th rewatch
lol
Same, this will be watched again!
I never would have linked the problem to the root cause here.
any one of us might be using these tools in the future!
(Where can we go to come and talk about this more?)
Jim making this stuff look easy, meanwhile I'm feeling accomplished with my minimacropad XD
lol
this is like an interrupt handler without saving the registers 🙂
Is Jim's brain running out of steam? XD
i keep walking over to my TV to see what is happening. then back here to comment
How many steps are you at for today? lol
Jim is giving us "the simple version"
My watch says 'Goal reached' 🙂
I bet his brain is actually so big that it's connected to his head via a portal, and beyond the portal is a giant warehouse planet full of brain. That's where he stores all this knowledge!
seeing assembly code is like Excellent
what was the 3rd stack ( processor, micro python stack and ??? )
emitter stack
I think things like MicroPython are so complex that no one person could remember everything about all of it
RIP bug. You put up a good fight, but you knew you'd be found out eventually...
Wow, that's cool. 😁
line 5 has return(0,0)

Thanks for coming!
This has been amazing!!
Thanks Jim for sharing your youngster with us too!
7AM early? That's when I start work :P
Yes, small human time was adorable!
Thanks to both of you. This was really great and was a bit of a deeper dive than usual.
Thanks guys!
Only DM with permission!
When do we get CircuitPython on PyBoard?
Yes, great dive into the abyss. And returned.
Aww, no kitty?
Shout out to the roof guys for not being too noisy
thanks!
Bai!
deep dive to abyss of assembly
thanks all!
😄
thanks @rapid hornet for the invite! and again thank you for the great questions, that was really fun
I missed if you typed the full command line, but I used "objdump -bbinary -D" for the first time a few weeks ago - a great way to do disassembly of raw binary maching code.
yep, exactly that, just also with the arch: objdump -b binary -mi386:x86-64 -D out-code
About to get started with the stream. Will be working on a MacroPad project today. Hang out here in the chat and join me on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3gitxUzC1cor Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch

🇸🇪 👋
Hey Jonny!
Wonderful summer weather here. And I do have my vacation.
The coming week forecast... 🥳
Might be a problem with the dark theme.
30°C is 86°F
20 is normal, 30 is summer hot, 40 is high fever 😉
Have fun, watch out for zombies!
I'm continuing to learn to use git
I'd love to write an interface to circup with the same tools as Mu and possibly have it as a standalone and a panel in Mu
yeah, analyse the code and find imports
I wonder if Mu could read the REPL in a useful way, like detect missing module exceptions for example
I like to call that variable now 🙂
And I am back. 😎
What did you buy for me?
That was fast groceries :O
ditto!
brains are not for divisions !
and not too hard to add your own, I made a kind of "rain" animation for my library
I live in the city center, local store is just 3 blocks away.
(I mean library with shelves, not software library )
Rain animation sounds cool. Can we maybe get a video?
I bought them when they were JP's pick of the week.
Same, I got 4 of them :D
I should actually do something with mine...
I made a MicroMacroPad for work XD
that's slick
It kinda feels lazy to use it, lol
Thanks, this has been a good introduction to LED_Animation.
Thanks everyone. Hope you all have a nice weekend!
@smoky island - cool video/calculator🎰
hi folks, we'll be doing a direct to youtube "the great search" tonight, no live desk of ladyada tonight, but will get the great search up tonight
The Great Search - 24V Quiet Hot End Fan (3D Printer Replacement)
https://www.digikey.com/short/whqf0vmp
We got a request on discord from someone with a 3D printer that needed new fans. In particular they want a quieter fan, and one that can run directly on 24V without needing a regulator (e.g. a 12V fan). Let's visit the massive collection of fan's over on Digi-Key and show how we can pare down the selection, then sort by specifications to get some great options to try.

Imagine how sad the world would be without DigiKey
TH3Dstudio.com has great 3D printer fans. both 12V & 24V
I was hoping to understand the NFT VQGAN+CLIP controversy by watching the recording of the desk. Not that I really care, I just want to understand. I may have been lost in translation and too many new buzz words to understand what is going on on Twitter. Take care.
Aw man I missed this chat!
I should have pinged perhaps, didn't know if you were watching. There was some async / await discussion occurring on show & tell
Feel free to @ me on these discussions! I keep looking for keyword mentions on discord but I guess it’s only available via bots. Maybe we could add a keywords bot to this server? Anyway thanks for the shout out and I’ll watch the video for more context
hello!
👋
hello
Good afternoon all you wonderful folks!
Oh gosh
hi
that.....is slightly disturbing. Lars approves.
JP, some of your thumbnails terrify me
disco beats on YT!
I have a feeling I won't be getting this one because I still lack a Feather, lol
🕺
Very good bleep bloops
This will give me some things to build with my RP2040 feathers
Yes hewwo I'm here
hey where's the MUSTACHE
I'm expecting a mustache-based wearable
What’s up dudes
hello
mic level is a little low; peaking at -12dB -ish
Batten down the hatches!
Space, sky
Batten down the 'staches!
Hi fellow nerds!
stickers are cool
Hmmm... Should I get a Feather M0 Express since the RP2040 model isn't available?
Wow a MP3 chip
@proper trench the best use of that chip is it needs a GUI and then turn it to an open source “MP3 player”
Like iPod
yeah it's also a full General MIDI synth
Keep in mind that's Ladyada from 5 years ago XD
Oh my bad
lol
Ordering one to replace the Pimoroni board I smoked a few weeks ago.
He uses arduino compiler instead of MU
I already have alternatives for my Pi(s) but I want somthing for my Featherverse.
Chip tunes awesome
I just ordered this with M0 Feather. As in right now
Ohh, yeah, someone was asking about a V1053 board with CP and I figured out it wouldn't work... I don't wanna go back to Arduino XD
Is that an OPL3 chip or something newer
VS1053B
Cool
Only drawback seems to be a current lack of CP support
Bummer no Circuit Python. C/C++ is cool too
i dont know if it can understand m4a or opus audio files
I'm abandoning Arduino, lol
I am so old school I look at this and think "this could be a toll fraud device" I did build a red box back in the day but finnding a payphone that left the voice circuit live before the call was connected was the real challenge
I wouldn’t abandon Arduino
I've been enjoying CP and the lack of an IDE and compiling
And the code living on the board
Much easier to jump between my workstations and take it with me
Hmm, where's the reverb spring? 😉
Yes I used to write music in MIDI
My brother had a keyboard that could do MIDI out or save MIDI files to a floppy
I have that same Akai MPK Mini keyboard
I really wish there was MIDI support for noisetrekker MODtracker
look at all these glorious General MIDI sounds it has (from the datasheet https://cdn-shop.adafruit.com/datasheets/vs1053.pdf )
that's cool with all the sounds.
What is the hosts discord name?
I feel like it's dying to become a concealed audio graffiti device.
@cinder wind hey tod do you know how to implement volume envelopes?
QUESTION JP: What box do you use to convert the USB midi to normal Midi?
with this chip? you can't I think. unless it's in MIDI mode and you send CC7 (volume) over time
is mp3/midi mode only accessible through the solder pad or is there a gpio switch for it?
mysterious music from an echoing storm drain. Periodic spoken reminders that passers by look nice today. 🙂
Because when we write music we use a lot of volume envelopes for “gateing” and string attacks
Oh, I do have a question! Is someone working on CP support for this?
Thanks. I have identical dumb keyboard
Thanks @haughty quiver
@haughty quiver thanks!
Pick'd!
Thank you
@haughty quiver Got a couple. Thanks for the discount. Great show
Right on!
@haughty quiver Do you know if someone is working on CP support?
10 == haunted house sound fx system
Thanks @haughty quiver
Used a Music Maker Wing in MIDI-only mode for this Emergency Sound Module. Came in handy a couple of times when my primary keyboard failed during a gig.
There is a library on GitHub -- oh, Tod found it!
There is a CircuitPython library (https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_CircuitPython_VS1053) but it can't work because CP doesn't have interrupts or DMA unless you're in the CP core, coding in C
That's highly cool, @inner spade
Thanks. Was battery-powered, as well.
It doesn't work on CP tho -- I was wondering if someone was actively working on making that work
Been thinking about the interrupt challenge. Would love to have the ability to (carefully) write CP irq handlers
*.MOD trackers from Sweden is the best computer music
we don't CP to be a second class citizen!
as far as I know, nope. But you can! 🙂
Haha, I'm still a baby in terms of CP... Still learning the basics. Plus it might take me a decade with the precious little free time I have XD
@haughty quiver I was wondering what that box that you showed for connecting midi devices was and where can you get it?
RetroKits RK006
my kaiOS basic phone produced this audio format when i recorded https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opus_(audio_format)
Opus is a lossy audio coding format developed by the Xiph.Org Foundation and standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force, designed to efficiently code speech and general audio in a single format, while remaining low-latency enough for real-time interactive communication and low-complexity enough for low-end embedded processors. Opus repl...
interesting, that's a new one on me
Wonder if a possible solution for CP support is to get one core of the rp2040 set up with c code to poll to serve the 1053 interrupt needs without the python overhead.
Rust?
There is a hackchat tomorrow does anyone know what time it is
Looks like 3 pm EDT.
thanks @grand tusk
Are there specific channels for help on projects ?
Good morning all you wonderful folks!
good morning, afternoon, evening and night folks!
☕️⚡️
Good morning
I really need to design more 3D projects
I have some ideas for a board I made though 🙂
Need to make an enclosure for this
Hey Y'll

i wish i knew what circuit python was :O
The main page here: https://circuitpython.org/ has some good overviews about what the project is.
Yay :D
woot!
@tawdry aurora You are about to enter an amazing world
:O
it's super easy to get started, and updating code is 🆒
Here's a complete alphabet.
https://github.com/fede2cr/circuitpython-braille/blob/master/alphabet.py
I keep trying to think of a reason to build a mini keyboard
I have an idea for braille navigation for a web browser and JAWS text to speech program.
I'm going to use one to play sound fx for a Pathfinder character (bard of course) 🙂
Nice
@urban gale I'm thinking of a keypad with Python/CP programming commands.
Also would like to make a shortcut keyboard for my 87 year old MIL
Hm. I use Adobe Products a lot. Maybe I could try a macro helper?
I have a 16 key Keybow from Pimoroni and I want to get a Adafruit MacroPad. Will have both with Programming shortcuts.
Thank you! I was wondering how to do custom supports!
Cranking up Cura as we speak 🙂

Am I the only person who has a different version of Cura for basically every printer and never changes it?
@teal river Well, I only have one (Ender 3 Pro with bunches of mods) and I keep Cura up to date.
Need that!
I have 4 printers XD I actually use two on the same version, but I have a MonoPrice Select Mini V2 and use Cura 15.something because it doesn't always like exports from newer versions...
OK, Need that one too.
I wish I could watch DX

Hey guys! Haven’t been able to join the live streams in a while! Pretty interesting projects you’re working on!
When will the macropad be available again

so how many uv leds do I order, and what resistors? 🙂
A million! Not sure on resistors, lol
do the math on the resistors! and then buy a million of them too
😅
Cheep
( based on the bulk breaks of the random resistor I found. which rudely only goes up to 10k )

question that came in "does/can the library allow for an easy way to connect multiple controllers? I really like my IRIS keyboard and would love to make some more custom split keyboards."
answer (and on video) "they'd have to be independent now. we don't have a standard way of coordinating"
"they'd have to be independent now. we don't have a standard way of coordinating"
Might not be totally related, but what are the biggest bottlenecks in supply when it comes to these shortages?
Enjoyed. Thank you for your time.

Now might finally be the time to start making keycaps like these
Yes. It's complete. It took me almost a year, and suggestions were taken from TikTok! So sorry for the bad audio, I'll be trying to setup a better mic system soon.

yeah, i put the stemma connectors so you can do stuff like that
I need to add battery charging
can you make your charger board hook in as like an optional add on?
i don't see why not
I got this little vacation project installed today.

great projects everyone 🙂
So fun fact, I put together the code for my show n tell like 2 minutes before I was on. Or I got it working. All of 14 minutes to get it going in circuitpython. High speed CircuitPython!
Is that why your son was there @lilac tusk? Call in the expert to get it working? 😉
Just shows you how quick it is to get a project going in Circuitpython
@teal river , it's McClellands Islay for me. 🙂
I changed my mind and got cookie dough XD
