@haughty quiver if you make socket for hallowing and put to skull eye socket and do same to other eye it could be spooky

That puppeteering and puppet are fantastic.
Drifting with truck in the snow can be fun
wow...how does that puppet work..
Lol, their taking the night off.
thermal image bumper sensors will be rolling out soon....
Ya Aren't they cool @haughty quiver ?
@quick veldt I'd like to see the acceleration with 40,000 lbs in the trailer.
"Tesla says the Semi will reach the same mark pulling an 80,000-pound trailer in 20 seconds"
So, 10 seconds?
there was record of electric car for pulling Airplane with Tesla Model X
That's just nuts. I suppose it's got an automatic transmission.
if they did it right no transmission....
I miss the old UK Top Gear. It'd be fun to see what they'd do with it, while grumbling about the Eco-friendliness of it.
Those take half the fun out of truckin'
@lavish stream check Grant Tour from Prime
What will the trucker even be paid for while driving a tesla truck
No Transmission??? hmmmm. Some other way to transfer energy???
@shell mason I saw season 1 but haven't been following since, just got busy. Worth going back to?

It was kinda fun but not the same.
@lavish stream might be
Oh yeah, want another absurd thing?
DC megachargers can add 400 miles of range in 30 minutes.
OOOH what if you made a Leela wrapper for the Hallowing somehow? I guess I'm fixated on the eyeball.
So two hours to charge a full tank??? hmmmmm.
@heavy siren how much range do you get outta a tank of gas?
1600 miles.
Never has a passenger airliner been hitched to an electric passenger vehicle for towing. Well at least until today. On a remote taxiway at Melbourne Airport,...
The tesla range is 500 miles max
if you design the motor correctly it should be able to handle the dynamic range of speed and torque with out mechanical gearing... i think your thinking of a single drive train... which likely it won't have. Each wheel should be a motor. This is what the big dump truck mine haulers have used for years.
@ionic crag Actually, thinking of torgue.
oops...
think about the massive torque need to move 50 tons of ore up a ramp
PC is messing up again, so I'm going to say goodnight all. Have a great night!
Bonne nuit
The new Tesla Semi Truck: + 0-60 mph (96km/h) in 5 sec + 500miles (800km) of range + $180.000
my stomach is getting bubbly just thinking of it
PC's never mess up. A computer will always do exactly what they are told to do.
Code, it's all about the code.
Switched YouTube to No Quarter - Led Zepplin. Gotta love it.
PCs never screw up? Then why did my machine start showing a blank screen when it should be showing me the login screen? Oh, thatβs right, somebody told it to do that. For some reason, I am not comforted by this knowledge.
here is an example of an electric drive that deals with REAL torque and goes 40 mph.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebherr_T_282B
@ivory kiln thank you for sharing that puppet video link! Awesome channel π
diesel is used to generate the massive amount of electrical power... i don't think they could get batteries to do it...
@plucky glen Your computer code detected a port condition causing an "IF" statement to execute it's code that caused the processor to bypass the screen initalization or got stuck in a loop.
Gonna run now, thanks everyone for coming by!
the wheels are the motors....

So, is SkyNet powered by Lora?
Appreciate the coupon. Just placed the order. π
thanks for the great project once again !
Very nifty! I'LL BE BACK....to watch the VoD.
Thanks!
Thanks @haughty quiver
very welcome @waxen thistle thanks you for stopping by!
Nice timing, too, got that done in under 30m
Sorry I didn't join earlier, I had a very hectic day.
Feeling a bit sick (acid burn didn't give me much rest) + welding a cart carrier for tomorrow's Hershey Car Show + talking to the state police to file a report for a semi who drove over our lawn and tore ruts....
Which also included about 2 minutes of confronting the same semi who tried to run me over in his haste to leave the scene....
I don't drink, but man....I could use a drink.
@waxen thistle That's horrible, glad you are ok!!
I thank my orthopedic for the cortisone & physical therapist for strengthening me --- so I can be the nimble cat and dodge a very unkind person! And thank you too @past nova
when @haughty quiver became a terminator for building a terminator for halloween
Hopefully he electrically terminated the line too.
@haughty quiver I just missed the broadcast, but for the makecode minute, does makecode map 255 to 360 for the hue?
There was mention of 360 degrees of color... Thanks.
Hello World! Just got home from truckin a load.
@haughty quiver Just missed your show. Do you have a discount code I could use for today.
Got lots in wishlist... π
Ah nuts, looks like John has left the building...
@heavy siren its CYBERDYNE
@past nova Thank you very much Dan. I really appreciate the help.
Hi @spiral bough that's a very good observation! Yes, the HSV color block maps 0-255 to 0-359 behind the scenes. It would have been nice to have it exposed as 360.
Thanks @past nova enjoy @heavy siren !
@haughty quiver Just ordered more parts using your discount code. Thanks eh... Now, what am I going to due with 16 perma-proto boards??? Still haven't come up with any good ideas.
Haha, I doubt you'll have trouble finding uses for them! Those things are so incredibly handy.
@haughty quiver Well, I have uses for some but I want to make use of all for example, a stackable Jumanji game, or a tabletop board game with electronics, or save up to 52 and make a deck of really cool cards.
Oh, wow, I see, you're thinking big! I love it.
Cool.
Ooh, maybe you could do a dense matrix of 5mm LEDs on each one and use each as a character for writing out messages :)
Also, I might make obsticles and waypoints for robots to travel on and over or near to get points for a road rally type of game. Robots are so so cool. And the Crickit is my new gateway to those guys.
Ouch, that resistor is hot.π¦ Won't touch a hot resistor again.π
That was what I was sort of thinking John. And I have a ton of small LEDs.
@tawdry phoenix Just wet your finger first before using it as a temperature probe.
π€ .... Heck no.π I know what that feels like.

I might be a bit late in saying KUDOS to you @proper trench - but was so fun to see in the airport INC - what did it say...the high priestess of soldering, hacking, diy -- was the best thing to read all day!!! π
@waxen thistle SparkFun has a nice wind vane/anemometer/rain gauge combination for 75 bucks. And I just got a Raspberry Pi hat interface for them from BCRobotics.
I might have to make a case for the function generator.

Any adafruit engineers here to help answer my question?

@lethal lagoon Now you know how I feel. Grand Central....sigh.
On the back of the CPX, what are the 3 liitle copper solder pads for?
@lethal lagoon yeah and that what i have keep posting gifs made me I wanna
so no adafruit proceors would be compatible for SIM808 with Azure IOT hub?
Any chance of getting other bluetooth modules in? or updating the bluefruits to be able to connect one bluefruit to another?
EL wire featherwing?
is there any example project/code using an optical encoder using circuitpython for syncing two robot wheels?
Thanks!! π
@analog acorn I'll have to look into it, but I think it'd be way overkill for what I need. I think the generic temp/humidity sensor within a 1/2 degree is fine-ish.

I don't have much experience with this tool, but I just saw this: https://www.amazon.com/Midwest-Products-Hobby-Craft-Cutter/dp/B0006O2AJO/
A "miter" cutter.
Though a miter box I'd imagine is the most versatile solution.
Miter box and a japanese handsaw. a most excellent combination.
This will be very nice for my family tree photos and history narrative.

Later @haughty quiver Fun show
@haughty quiver Thanks again for another awesome show! π¨
thanks @odd stream later
thanks @inner spade you can also do lots of fun things with sanding in bevels before or after glue down.
thank you @haughty quiver !
@haughty quiver Heard over my shoulder just now: "How does he keep coming up with this stuff? Amazing."
It's a sincere challenge to consistently come up with quality content. Mad respect.
Aw shucks, thanks @inner spade for telling me :)
This was a @open girder Ladyada and Mr. Ladyada idea.
I think it's cool because it shows the versatility of the HalloWing for those times when you don't need π action.
@haughty quiver Yeah, I have a guide submitted for a post-halloWeen halloWing use.
@haughty quiver Awww, I'm just now seeing your broadcast and I'd like to get one of those IR FeatherWings. But I already put in an order yesterday. And today. π I'll add it to my wish list.
@analog acorn There's always tomorrow
Yeah.... But I just looked at how much the "Adafruit" line item in my actual vs. budgeted spreadsheet differs, and, ah, I'll have to wait till the 15th. π
@odd stream 'Cause I can't really handle 400+ over already. LOL
@analog acorn I went to the Hershey Car Show last week, and oof. I spent way more than I was expecting on misc tools + gadgets.
That plus an estate sale later that same weekend with some machinist tools....I walked away feeling the sting. Worth it. Oh so totally worth it. But oof nonetheless.
Hershey Car Show? In Hershey, PA? I used to live out that way!
Yepper! I went with family for a day---and saw like 30% of the flea market/swap meet.
My wallet breathed a sigh of relief I was walking slow π
Heh, I hear ya!
@analog acorn Yeah... me & fountain pens.
@odd stream OMG you like those too? My go-to pens are Leventer L-Tech medium nib fountain pens, though I also like Shaeffers...
@odd stream super, and I suspect some of these will transfer nicely to Gizmo.
@analog acorn Yeah, I've loved fountain pens since I was a teen. My use has come and gone over the years. Currently picked it up again and started bullet journaling to try to wrangle projects, etc. Since things are pretty freeform these days. At the moment I have a couple LAMY Safaris and Jinhao X750s. I also cleaned up my Sheaffer calligraphy pens.
@analog acorn I've also just made the jump to bottled ink and converters.
@analog acorn I'm also a sucker for a good notebook. I've used Rhodia quite a bit and just picked up a Leuchtturm1917. It seems good.
@analog acorn Do you have any suppliers of pen, ink, and paper that you frequent?
@odd stream Levenger, mostly, but there's a shop in DC called Fahrney's Pens that I get more expensive stuff through. And Amazon actually carries the Safaris, of which I have a few.
I also like pencils.com because for designing things I like to use pencil at first. I LOVE the Blackwings....
I picked up my first Safari on Massdrop. I usually go to Goulet Pens now.
Oooh, I hadn't heard of them. I'll dash off and have a look!
CW Pencil enterprises looks good. I haven't gotten anything from them yet.
Goulet is awesome. Great stock & selection. Really, really nice people.
Lots of resources, tutorials, and such on the site.
Cool! I'll check them out. I got a few things from CW. Good personalized service.
Paper is problematic. I like the annotated ruling pads from Levenger, but the Circa notebooks got too bulky.

Hey @open girder will the touch version of the Hyper Pixel display be back in stock soon?
@lean grail no ETA at this time, however, sign up to be notified so ya get an email right away when it's back in stock
Alright, thank you very much! i was gonna use one for a rPi 3 B+ to make an octoprint server. Maybe I will get another display for the time being.
Early release of the code, yay π
@waxen thistle I know!!! And the prop wing is on the site toooo!!! im about to order one!!!! I wanna attempt to port my lightsaber code to the feather so I can use the wing!!!
Two weeks ago at a flea market, I bought 10x "BladeBuilder" lightsabers (one of their official variants) at $2 each. Then the next day, I went to a GameStop and got two really nice $60 Kylo Ren sabers (with a molded fixed blade, really well done) for $6 each.
So, many sacrificial lightsabers to be had. Sadly, I only have two hands...can't lose any of them so I have to be careful. π β
lol. my lightsaber hilt and blade are both from UltraSabers
I got Noe hooked on their blades tooo
I've heard of them I think -- the really beautiful machined ones, right?
yeah. there are definitely better out there. but i liked the hilt i got.
Have a photo of it? I'd love to see it
Not at the moment π You'll have to wait till maybe next week, I'll try and show it off on Show n Tell if i can get it working again in time
ooo, even better
That's no comparison to the literal plastic toys I picked up...but they're a great way to practice and cheaper @ $2 compared to 3D printing.
oh i agreed! my hilt and blade cost me $180ish
I've thought about converting one of the Graflex 3-cell flashguns I own to a Luke Skywalker saber. But man, i can't bring myself to do it yet.
Hey @waxen thistle do you mess around with Ras Pi's and 3d printing that much?
A little bit, not as much as I really want to. Why do you ask, what's up? π
I just got a 3d printer like last week. Im going to order a Pi 3 B+ to run an octoprint server on and I wanted to get the Hyper Pixel Display for it but adafruit doesnt have them in stock. one of my friends was heavily trying to push me towards getting the Pi Foundation's 7 inch screen instead. What would you recommend? Im mostly going to be using it for Octoprint but i may find another use for it at the same time. Like running that ad block software that Lady Ada likes
@lean grail I'm running OctoPrint on a Pi0w for mine quite nicely.
Ok, so this isn't my project -- but I saw this today on Reddit. It's a potential reuse of that RPi official screen. And with that bamboo frame from amazon, it looks purdy.
I have one of adafruit's monitors + speakers screwed onto a tabletop tripod as my "mobile RPi" setup myself.
oh nice
That is my setup there
and that extends taller too
Oben BD-1 tripod from B&H photo
I velcro the RPi (in a case) to the back of the monitor
and use short HDMI cables. I have two power adapters (one for the screen, another for the RPI) zip-tied together with the same cable length
Ohhhhhhh the bamboo case is only $16 on amazon!!!
I know. and that monitor is powered off the RPi if memory serves correctly. It's very appealing.
Or I think the RPi is powered off the monitor's board, to be precise.
the display looks like it has a micro usb plug for the display for power. but it can also be powered from the Pi as long as your power supply is strong enough
I think im gonna get that 7" display. its a bit more than i wanted to spend. but i can definitely find a use for it.
I was on the fence myself, but that project on Reddit has all but turned me. I want a small "dashboard" for monitoring my devices/services. Hard to beat a 2.5amp @ 5v power draw.
yeah really. I'll have to get that power supply at a different time. But im gonna try to make this display into an octoprint server and an adblock server and possibly one of those nice magic mirror displays I think
@lean grail No, the Pi0w is internal to the printer.
@odd stream on your octoprint server?? thats really cool!
ooooofff. Adafruit has struck the wallet yet again! CURSE YOU @open girder !!!!
The Pi mounts directly to the printer control board. It's designed to use the Pi as an integrated octoprint server. Perfab microSD image & everything.

not too old, I think you can buy it off of amazon
m-audio axiom air 32 mini
some permutation of that
very nifty -- most of the keyboards I find are ~2000 or earlier. Sometimes even 80s, so totally not MIDI capable

Hi everyone
watching the broadcast and working on usb is not fun. I mess up my code and lose sound. oops!
π
soon its coded with midi hehe
I've been working on building a cable to connect my old Kenwood Ham radio to the computer
the shows are always too distracting to work, but i try every week.
@odd stream I have your article on Diodes in my lap. Hackspace came today. Yesssssssss.
started working on the pinout to use a normal arduino USB->TTL programming board, but noticed they all use the DTR pin instead of RTS
β± @haughty quiver's MakeCode Minute was 2 min 07 sec of awesome Arduino and MakeCode! β±
Hi there, I am 3d printing a clear robot (named disco). I would like the robot to light up when I say "dance." What materials do I need for something like this? Im new to python, but the circuit playground color wheel program that was mentioned earlier this evening sounds like it just what I'm looking to do-- I just want it there to be a speech recognition piece as well... any ideas? Also, I have a raspberry pi 3b+ and a teensy 3.2. oh my goodness>>the prop maker with the music and lights! So perfect.
getting a full breakout board that gives me what I need, but wondered if the DTR pin from the FTDI chip could be used for RTS in the meantime
That's a nicely put together guide on Arduino to Circuit Python
@cinder warren Check out the MOVI for speech recognition. It's for the arduino and works great.
discord + YouTube = I need a bigger monitor
@sinful oriole yup, that's the reason why I don't like discord -- it's screen-hoggy
Vote early. Vote often π

that kitteh was mega
@heavy siren where do I find the MOVI?
i'm getting the same..
Itβs down to 144p here
... and here, too.
there is also mixer π https://mixer.com/adafruit

@open girder Mixer seem more solid to far
yes. much better.
twitch had a slight buffering, but it's been pretty solid for the most part
Why is de-drossing so fascinating?
because of the possibility of something going horribly wrong?
Elsewhere in life, yes, but not there.

Marty? That's heavy, Doc.
yeah, but does that do floors?
wow π
DarkSky is cool. I've been using that for a while.
@odd stream Likewise, it's pretty slick on iOS
I was using DarkSky when it was just an API
Im dying right now at that costume! its hilarious!!
I wonder how long it took to print that spider
I sure hope that was a neomatrix.
probably WAYYYYYYY tooooo long.

what are the holes in the propmaker board for?
i meant the three non-plated mounting hole-looking things
Iβve always wanted loud neopixels
I can already tell im going to be removing the speaker and led connector things
i'm just here waiting patiently for the grand central
@lament sluice they are non-plated mounting holes π
but why are they in the middle of the board?
i was suspecting they're for passing wires through or something
That AR app is so sweet.
Buffering has not recovered
Have you ever thought of doing adakits requiring a lot of soldering and assembly? Like the old Radio Shack kits.
Is the Trinket powerful enough to handle a Neotrellis?
ok cool i would never have guessed that lol
Q: What about doing more breadboard Adabox kits?
Q: What's the difference between DTR and RTS? Are they interchangeable at all?
crowdsupply
Will there be a learning guide for the Prop Maker Wing?
Well of course @lean grail :)
i think DTR is device -> controller and RTS is controller -> device
or the other way around
Googling DTR and RTS will yield more than you want to know
bad internet weather
The stream went offline

Break out the galoshes!
twitch is still going with buffering

I cant wait to get my hands on the prop maker wing next week!!!I'll probably start trying to modify my lightsaber code for it as soon as I get it in my hands

@eager sapphire I was looking to use an FTDI basic for something that's not for anarduino
I didnβt even hear the questions lol
Adabox 100 -- build a sonic screwdriver. an actual sonic screwdriver π
lol yes please!
@muted mesa Wait, DD v3 is up?
As long as youβre going the right direction, and choose the right pins in your code, you should be fine
ok Iβm just going to log off the stream for tonight
@waxen thistle tis! and they've written Kingpin even better this season. Vincent D'Onofrio is of course, the perfect actor for the part.
night!
i just checked the product page for the prop-maker, hats off to ladyada and the team for getting the price down to something extremely affordable
DTR/DSR and CTS/RTS both have directions relative to terminal/device and youβve got to make sure youβre using an IN as an IN and OUT as an OUT...
Hopefully YouTube isnβt getting sick again and shuts down for 2 hours
even twitch is buffering
mixer is going strong. https://mixer.com/adafruit/mobile
@muted mesa Dude, that's awesome. I can't wait to see how they resolved The Defenders ending.... (no spoilers please).
Yeah but mixer doesnβt support background play
There is a STL of her new sonic on thingiverse!
But yeah, assuming youβre using an OUT as another OUT, just βbreakbox itβ the way you need the signals. FTDI chips of recent generation should support every last pin youβd need, though
Without having to patch anything
@waxen thistle i would never spoil [on purpose]! didn't start Defenders...Iron Fist kind of turned me off after the first couple episodes.
ring indicator (RI) is another useful pin, in that it's commonly used for anything
@muted mesa Ok, I wasn't the only one who felt ....odd.... watching Iron Fist. I couldn't make it through the first episode, and I like Marvel.
This is a base for my version of the Sonic Screwdriver (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2992209)

Yeesh next week is Halloween
The question is mixing them. I know DTR/DSR is one pair and CTS/RTS is another. I didn't think you'd be able to interop them
@open girder Thanks again for another awesome evening of shows!
π You and your team is awesome, never forget that. You bring a lot of love to the world through the stuff you create.
If you get the right direction, AND alter the code to drive/listen to the appropriate swapped pin, itβll work
k, back to usb testing
so I just made it easy and ordered a full breakout board that presents all the pins
as long as you're not using flow control you should be able to use either or both sets for whatever you want
Best approach, the breakout board
@rapid hornet Have fun, and be careful of
.
I am using flow control, though so I have to get them right
it might work for a while, but would eventually hose itself
Are the Adafruit songs posted for download anywhere?
Then you may have to βlieβ to the control code, telling it that it is DTR instead of CTS, etc.
soundcloud.com/adafruit or something like that
So that it wiggles the correct pin
Got it. THanks @lament sluice
for what it costs to just get a breakout that gives me the pins I actually need, it wasn't worth trying to fiddle
if the only option I had was to use only what's in the house, that's one thing
Thanks to Limor and all of Adafruit for great shows and products!
I also have one of the USB to RS232, but then I have to deal with getting the signal voltages right for the TTL device I'm connecting
because the CTS/RTS RS232 voltage is too high
only have Mac and Linux in the house so wasn't looking forward to trying to get flprog working to fiddle with the FTDI chip, either
was there a code to where if I spend over $199 I gt something free?
@cinder warren I think they look at the total on the order and no code is required for the freebies. Don't forget to use the discount code announced on the webshows. https://www.adafruit.com/free

YT buffering rather a lot here
waiting for ad to finish on twitch
Yup, YT buffering is becoming the norm.
Yeah, F5 on twitch gives me a pinwheel of patience.

nice lamp ! did you build it yourself ?
π @cinder wind !
The USB cable is very flexible, too. It's my go-to for NeoPixel strips that need to be a few feet from the controller. The USB terminal block adapter is genius!
@inner spade Do you double up any of the conductors?
Would that be 60 strips of neo pixels, or strips of 60 pixels?
do you remember the name of the lamp ?
π Usually single strips of 60.

Wow, definitely ready for the holiday season
These are indoors, but could be used outdoors with a little more effort.
Are these available to the general public, or are they a custom project?
it looks like a cool thing for Christmas !
