@proper trench there is a syntth for the feaather from modrn device
Are the neon strips only bendable in one dimension?
Breaking the don’t ask rule: will that moisture sensor be coated/laminated?
Question: With Adabox subscriptions growing more and more every box are there any plans to manage that many subscriptions quicker and more effectively or will Adafruit place a subscription cap that can’t be passed. Any changes to your shipping department?
Ok thanks guys.
@proper trench yes it just ended
Ok thanks :^)

Hi, all. Late to the party again. 😬
Little speakers like that resonate much nicer when placed against objects.
I've noticed the same with old fashioned mini-music boxes (the hand crank ones with the drum and tines) -- they need to resonate or else they lose like 90% of their sound.
That's how those old wind-up gramaphones worked.

@shell mason That is the question.

Sound waves are carried by gas. There is no traveling of sound waves without gas. I’m working on this project right now to make sound better like the way it used to be in the 1970’s when I was a teenager.
Sound can also travel through liquid.
... and solids
Not to mention, gasses!
Itcan only travel through liquid that has tiny bubbles gas like the ocean. How many bubbles are there in 1 liter of ocean water? 6.023 * 10^23 is commonly used for that calculation.
^that is a large number
LOL.
Wow that turned out really good!
Nice!
Actually, that nunber comes from the middle ages and needs to be updated, which I’m also working on.

I think @rapid hornet has too much fun going to random shops and buying electronics.
no link to join?
@river peak There's no such thing as "too much fun".
Hello, everyone!
looks at the pile of vintage lazer tag gear from a yard sale...
@waxen thistle ...I would LOVE to get my hands on some laser tag gear.
lazer tag !!!!
@river peak I couldn't say no...plus I got some "modern" laser tag pistols that were a hot item last holiday shopping season. Seeing which makes most sense to gut for....modding....
Yeah, I'd love to make custom laser tag... lasers
glances at the CPX sitting on his desk. That's right. Python lasers. Snakes with laser beams.
Who else is thinking Tetris?
I'm so glad Noe & Pedro were able to SHIP this project!
Ahaha, love the googly eyes
How else would it know where it's going?
Not regular seals. Ninja seals.
Hmmm. No link to hangouts ? I'm still trying to get my mic working... but I can atleast show what I have on the go
Hangouts still doesn't have a way to self check the mic until you are in a session with somebody.
@rapid hornet can @feral patrol and @lean grail get the link?
@feral patrol I remember there being a way to get into a call without getting into a call...
Thanks @rapid hornet !
np
Thanks Scott!
😃
thanks!
pool noodles (x beach trash - 'dumpster diving') are really good for making a transporting system for multiple phones!
@haughty quiver is not helping my desire to buy a ton of LEGO
I have like so many mics plugged into my PC! lol. I think hangouts just don't like me. I have no idea if it work until I'm unmuted. So what ever, I'm cool just showing my progress of my daft punk helmets.
@haughty quiver has a drawing robot. @hard hollow & @rocky reef have a floating machine. I think I sense a Titanic 2 in the making!
Spirograph. 😉
@hard hollow @rocky reef for your boat cover the electronics with silicone conformal coating. it will waterproof them. Thats what we use in the miniquads scene to waterproof our flight controllers and what not. We can fly in the rain no issues
@lean grail ahh good tip! will have to pick some up 😃
I still want to 3D print a submarine.
Yellow filament, @river peak ?
@river peak ha, sorry!
And also attempt seeing if electroplating a conductive filament would work, and allow soldering...
@haughty quiver Don't be. It's the best.
@waxen thistle Of course.
batches of old Technic are great to pick up when you can find them at yard sales or auctions...
Here you go @hard hollow this stuff is what most people use. just make sure you get a good coating or two or three. and you can even solder throught the stuff apparently. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008O9YIV6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Cool looking clock.
seriously need to get some lego technics kits. thats where the all the mechanism goodness is at
yes!
Blah, I giveup....
What software is he using for that rendering? It's beautiful.
@lean grail much thanks for the link 😃
Fusion 360 he said.
The original Mindstorm kits are a GREAT source of lots of Technic beams, pegs, gears, pulleys, etc.
@lavish patrol Thanks, I missed it 😃
Great work Chris Young!
@haughty quiver For technics you want the nxt sets. the mindstorms were more brick based
I looked at the current Mindstorm and there are very few pieces, mostly gearboxes, servos, sensors, buttons and decoration.
Excellent Chris!
amazing build, Chris young
@lean grail ah, interesting I think my Mindstorm V2 was a mix of both
Didn't get a chance to share his f360 tip, will blog post it tho
@hard hollow Awesome, thank you for that.
King of Random is cool.
@lean grail It's a light-sabre.... You should make a heavy-sabre.
@lean grail beautiful saber build!
mm double dark chocolate cookies
Also, custom purple lightsabres make me sad. Had a friend who was part of a sabre group in SF. Had a purple sabre.
The force is with this engineer.
I can't truly express my thoughts on cancer in this server.
brilliant build! @lean grail
@open girder mBlade was in the room but dropped. he couldnt get his mic to work
Thanks all! 😃
Thanks everyone! Great projects!
Yeah, it worked before... And now it doesn't... I have no idea.
Thanks!
@feral patrol Gremlins.
I will be on my way to DefCon next wed... So maybe in 2 weeks if I still have these helmets.
Great show n Tell tonight. That waterbot by Noe and Pedro was sooooooo cool.
Thank you @haughty quiver and @hard hollow I plan to continue working on the saber as well. Ive done MOST of the coding on my own. I used someone elses code to start as a base but ive changed sooooo much of the code that its my own version now! and i had TONS of help from @feral patrol
Hey @lean grail What was the controller on the sabre. I missed it when you where describing it.
@heavy siren Inside the saber i have a teensy 3.2 with a special board made by a group. the extra board has an audio amp, micro sd card slot
Was the group the "Dark Lords of the Sith"?
@lean grail Ah, thanks for the info.
They do get a lot done for just two people, even with all the infighting.

Buoy, what a great boat project!
@waxen thistle Groan.
@prime sail I sure will tell HackSpace.
@lavish patrol Sorry, I couldn't fathom a better pun from the depths of my mind.
Hey @hard hollow for your boat too if you switch to brushless motors then you dont need a waterproof housing for them either. they should work just fine in the water, you just need an ESC to control it with but you can wire those up to arduinos easily
@lavish patrol You can dock my pay for being so bad.
Well, let's see if the pun floats...
@hard hollow Your boat could be controlled using a CricKit Feather and the Huzzah. Future idea. 😃
NEW!

Ah. Stainles steel. That should be OK. I was thinking of corrosion due to electrolysis.
I love the idea of PoE, but haven't really been able to use it.
PoE is also awesome when you already have the infrastructure for it.
You mean... Ethernet?
Not to be confused with EoP.
PoE switches mainly
Yep. I'm thinking of grabbing one the next time I need a switch
@river peak you have to have specific switches capable of PoE
They're a bit higher cost, especially when you get a managed switch (instead of a traditional "dumb" ethernet switch that most people have).
Oh! These are awesome!

NeoPixel Trellis!?!?!
i just had to message someone this: sorry...this is my Wednesday night - my ME time - MY peeps - my RELAX...lol...thank you all @open girder
ooooo, if that's a neopixel trellis, sign me up!
@waxen thistle Start signing.
Yes yes yes yes !
Q: Is it possible to protect stepper driver chip outputs from motor disconnects when powered? Accidents happen...
That would be great for Alien Tiles.
@simple goblet Agreed! Tuesday is for D&D and Wednesday is S&T and AAE
@haughty quiver Your wireless feather controller with the trellis is the FIRST thing I thought about with a neopixel trellis
Like pigtail
@waxen thistle yes that would rock!
I have a bunch of the older Wago connectors -- if you can tolerate the price & bulky size, they are the easiest to use. The "cheapest" is a wire nut with some electrical tape -- but not easy nor modular.
Volume down!
Lol.
@haughty quiver I'm in the process of building such a controller for some home automation & streaming projects, but I might put the hold on the process until the neopixel version comes out. I'm so excited!
definitely! that sounds cool.
It's safe -- volume up!
So if you map a texture to a uv strip. Its uv to uv
another happy winner
@waxen thistle if you couldnt tell, im on a bluetooth kick now. bluetooth is fun for wireless! I honestly thought wireless connectivity was more difficult but it is easy!

Good night and thanks!
@lean grail Bluetooth is so fun, especially with the low power capabilities. I really enjoy fussing around with Lora, though I really want a project that'll push it to the limit.
@river peak thats awesome!
tyty froots
Good Night everyone. And remember, MAKE a nice day!!! 😃
@lean grail You would have loved it. Four hooves, each hoof having its own neopixel ring. Flora with a bluetooth connector for each one, all controlled via a custom phone app
@waxen thistle i havent messed with the Lora at all. Ive really only done the hc05 modules as of now
@hard hollow I already blog posted the Fusion 360 tip on the Adafruit blog..

Good afternoon all you wonderful people!
hello!
John Park, the NES game!
Hello!
bleep blop
We copy 5 by 9
What special power would the Konami Code give you, @haughty quiver ?
thanks and thanks!
Voice levels and quality are great!
Dr. Awbot !
I was just using my SDR earlier today, what a coincidence 😃
I hope it's eyes for the Adabox Halloween Edition. Those LCD eyes + M4 boards. Yes please 😃
This MakeCode minute really presses my buttons!
Question: I assume MakeCode handles debouncing?
@waxen thistle You are assuming correctly.
@waxen thistle Doing great. Had a good time performing my Skills Test at school today.
Skills test?
Learning how to parrallel park a semi tractor trailer. Not an easy thing to do.
I'm in school to get my CDL class A so I can be a truck driver. Cool eh?
Very cool! It's a job that's in high demand
Yes, it is. And I'm tired of retirement.
And I have maneuvered a conversion van with an enclosed utility trailer on it -- so I totally get how much of a challenge a semi can be
Especially when the trailer is 50 feet long.
Just backing up straight is a challenge.
Pintograph
Is the drawing output similar to the creation of Lissajous patterns?
Although hardly not retired, I'm looking at a possible career change. I've been eyeing PLC (programmable logic controllers -- automation control systems).
It's kinda the welding of the computer industry -- not glamorous, but in such high demand.
@waxen thistle PLC's are a great way to automate machines. I used an Allen Bradley back in the day for production machines when I worked at Zenith.
Now the real question here -- are these John's Legos or did he borrow them from his kid? 😃
Good evening from Switzerland !
@young adder Good afternoon from Chicago. 😃
Suburban NJ here! (a stone's throw from NYC) 😃
Never would of thought back in 1975 when I programmed an IBM 360 using punch cards to say Hello World that someday it would be true.
This is sooooo cool.
Question: For your learn guide, will you give Pick-A-Brick information for sourcing these bricks?
Coupon code is not Dr. Awbot.
@haughty quiver Thanks again for another awesome show!
Thanks @haughty quiver !
@haughty quiver your french pronounciation was perfect !
Thanks John :^)
Oh a project with the new neon-like bands maybe ?
Great show John. Thanks eh?
sorry
:)
eh
@waxen thistle yes, MakeCode handles the debouncing :)
@fallow fractal parrallel parking a semi tractor trailer probably involves the same Lissajous curves we made today :)
soon @haughty quiver make that pen to lazer so drawing with lazer
@shell mason Here's a different take -- do that with a wood burning pen.
Dr. Awbot gives 3rd degree burns!
@shell mason brilliant! long exposure photography w this would be wonderful
The Dr. is in. And dangerous.
I tested this on my iPad with stylus and it works beautifully too
Procreate?
just in notepad, but it would be amazing in some real art software!
That gets me thinking about how apply pressure....a third dimension to the mechanics of it..
@waxen thistle rastering lazercutting with it
is it just me or was it a short show today ? I wasn't there at the start so maybe it was mentioned
@young adder He's changed the format of the show to just 30 minutes
More demoing the completed project versus building it.
oh ok
My 2 cents -- I like the old format better, as the devil is in the details. The process of building something -- with challenges, compromises, gremlins, and successes -- is so integral to being a maker.
On the other hand, it means a show can drag out to 90 minutes or more, which doesn't make easily digestible VoD content on YouTube, etc.
yeah, I'll have to watch this episode in full, but I also think the building is more interesting than the result 😃
the drawbot wasnt so complete in the end
Dr. Awbot didn't give it a clean bill of health?
it totally felt short
time flies when you're having fun
@haughty quiver a laser or UV led over a sheet of glow-in-the-dark plastic would be interesting. A translucent GITD sheet may be viewable from the other side. https://www.inventables.com/technologies/glow-in-the-dark-and-clear-reverse-laserable-acrylic-sheet

@trim mountain Nice, appreciate it. I put my vote in, too.
@inner spade that’s a must try! I’d also like to do some long exposure photos with an LED or NeoPixel on the armature.

Good morning all you wonderful people 😃
Good afternoon @waxen thistle
hola
morning @waxen thistle
You could have the eyes move around to indicate the minutes and hours.
Lol. Chainsaws at dawn. 😮
And you thought folks sawed wood all night long (seriously though, get that checked out. Sleep apnea isn't a joke).
Thanks guys. 😃
thanks for hanging out folks!
So I take it (great show again thanks Ruiz bros) that this spewing of spaghetti comes from the nozzle getting partially clogged, something like that?
@hard hollow and @rocky reef Hello guy's, sorry I wasn't able to join your webcast today. Had two major tests at my Truck Driving School. Passed both with flying colors. Very happy. Will see you tonight. Take care and MAKE a nice day.
Congrats @heavy siren
Thanks @waxen thistle , parallel parking a semi isn't easy and that PTI, Pre-Trip Inspection has so much to remember. But I did it.
I'd make a trucking pun, but that'd be rather exhausting.
LOL 😃 Still have the Road Test next Wednesday. Pass that and I get my CDL Class A license. Yessssssss.
That is if I pass the State Physical. At 61, that may be the hardest of all. 😃
They have pretty strict blood sugar, blood pressure, etc requirements right? Do they put you through a sleep apnea test in your state?
Don't know about sleep apnea. My sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol are normally fine. It's the four heart attacks that worry me. I just won't mention them. If they don't ask, I ain't tellin'. 😃
Sparky got to the ol' ticker, eh?
I hope you were joking, if not -- I'm so sorry. Do take care of yourself.
Yeah, but it's not so much the heart as it is with the circulation. Blockages is what causes my problems. Got two stents already. And, no, I'm not joking. That's why I stopped Software Development. Way to stressful. I'm done with building Flagship apps for big companies while sitting in those little cubicles 10 to 14 hours a day.
So you are taking to driving? I know in NY/NJ -- that's no joking matter.
Yup, going to hit the road. I like driving. Lots of open space, no boss bugging me. Drive where I want to. I think it will be fun actually as well as challenging. I'm not doing it for the money. Just for something to do. Been retired for seven years and I'm tired of it. Need to get out of the house and truck driving seems like a good way to do that. And the wife agrees.
And I can blast my Rock -n- Roll while cruisin' down the road.
Nothin' like Black Dog at 110 SPL. 😃
I'm incredibly thankful that my current manager is awesome. I can't say that enough or more happily.
Because before that, I had a real hum-dinger of boss who....oh golly, I can't say how I really felt on this server.
But if the past was the present -- I'd be seriously rethinking things.
Well, after Zenith shut down I went into the contracting world. Commanded $50 / hour and was getting it. But the demands where just unreal. Feature creep, code reviews, people breaking the build, foreign born coder bugs galore. VPN in from home at night to get more code cut to meet deadlines. Sorry, but not having that anymore. I play with my embedded electronics and have a ton of fun doing just that. And no Operating System to deal with. Just fun projects from my own ideas. Can't beat it.
@heavy siren That sounds like a former Software Development In Test job I had -- we were suggested to ride mass transit into the office.
Not to save money.
Not to "be green".
Not to have a more relaxing ride.
Nope. It was so we could do "admin work" -- emails, read PDFs, etc. That was a 'pro-tip' so we could get ahead and progress our career.
VPN from home to do work in evenings and on weekends, as our weekdays were filled with meetings -- and the expectation was to to 6-8 hours of coding per day.
@waxen thistle So you understand the position I was in. Not at all like the old days of hacking code and circuitry to make things work. I miss those good ol' days. Now things always work because the libraries are there to be used and abused. But I do like the internet. All that info at my fingertips is awesome. And Adafruit is the perfect place for all my hardware needs. Gotta love those people. They do a lot of work so I can play. My hats off to everyone there.
Oh, it's one of the reasons I went into hardware installs -- I'm going to a different client site every day, installing physical gear.
Very transactional work, sense of accomplishment, variety of environments & workflows.
But it's not as gentle on me as sitting at a desk. And it gets rather high stress working early mornings, late nights, weekends. Oncall 2-3 times a month. It adds up.
See, that's sounds like a cool job. Something different everyday. Meet new people. Get things working. Moving around. Good for you. Just don't wear yourself down like I did. It ain't worth the physical toll. And try to manage that stress, it can be a killer if you know what I mean.
Well....hmm. Let's just say that's dang good advice.
And one of the reasons I'm looking into other things.
I see, well, there are lots of things to do out there these days. Good luck and think about your interests. If you like what you do, you will never work a day in your life. I'm sure you've heard that before. That's why I went into Truck Driving. I like being on the road. Traveling seems to relax me in a strange sort of way. But take your time and ask yourself all kinds of questions. You'll be surprised at the options you will come up with. How about teaching? Or tutoring. I almost went down that road myself. But don't settle for just anything. Be true to yourself. It helps.
Anyway, time for lunch. Remember, MAKE a nice day. See you tonight for Show n Tell...
Cheers 😃
Hi, all.

Hello!
hellow? Is that what you say when stubbing your toe & saying hello?
Lol.
<- still have my original 800xl
I was aware of the Ataris but was solidly an Apple guy in the 80s.
I remember the hot RAM diagnostic.
That's what bugs looked like in the 80s - worms.
Make sure you include dip when you order the extra chips!
Silicon-based worms
Does CP now support Klingon?
Lol. Error messages in Latin. FTW.
Hey everybody 👋
hai!
+500 points for the Latin translation. Just outstanding.
I think all error messages should be in latin. It couldn't make them any more meaningless.
Dothraki doesn't have an alphabet.
Esperanto?
Very Fisher-Price-esque!
What a bright project!
Ohh that’s pretty
Cool.

That was quick...
Great projects everyone!
Great job, everyone!
Thank you @vernal mulch @rapid hornet
I am disappointed. Got caught up in some... "drama" elsewhere and missed out S&T
That's ok, you only missed the first time Latin CircuitPython error messages were displayed live on air.
And a lot of cool projects 😃
I would have loved to se Dothraki
Or Elvish.
Dothraki pair programming -- is that when the first person who makes a typo or forgets an indent is forced into a battle to the death?
And what if it was in Goa'uld?

@haughty quiver I was all about those spiral drawing kits when I was a kid: Spirograph as I recall.
Hi, as the Job Board is still under maintenance, I want to ask about internship opportunities at Adafruit. Are there any paid internship positions that we can apply for?
@fallow fractal
https://blog.adafruit.com/2012/03/18/internships-at-adafruit-why-we-do-not-have-un-paid-internships/
@odd stream @haughty quiver same here! loved the spirograph
@odd stream yes, those were pretty addictive. I still remember that particular ball point pen ink smell from doing Spirograph
that said, job boards will back in maybe a month-ish
Right on @velvet beacon
@haughty quiver Oh ya... I forgot about the smell.
and im done pin one
Sweet sponge action.
@odd stream look up Hoot Nanny, it's the predecessor to Spirograph, and more sophisticated
Goooooey paste
Yeah @odd stream , awesome project control a bot with hand movements, gonna try that one out
@odd stream the hand control bot project is so cool!
Ooooo.I want some of that rubber.
oh wow @haughty quiver , Hoot Nanny looks so incredibly cool

super cool @haughty quiver ! thanks for sharing.
@open girder exactly, this why I asked about paid positions, in the article it is stated that "There might be apprenticeships, paid interns, junior staff assistants here (all paid positions)". Is it still true and does this also apply for people not from the USA?
Hello World! Chicago here.
@open girder I'd love to see some of those threaded inserts appear in the shop
@hard hollow @rocky reef that is too stinkin' cute!

@haughty quiver Excellent! Thanks!
The 5 wire versions came this week and work great. Very nice idea.
+1 for the Wago connectors. They're not cheap if you're using a lot, but they're VERY solid, reusable, and support mains current.
450V at 32A is some serious grunt.
I suddenly needed to use one of the older style 5-conductor Wago nuts I have. Look forward to trying these new ones.
I'm a fan of this.

These look really handy.
@haughty quiver Now you can have them!
@haughty quiver It's time.
@clear matrix I can only imagine you said that in the most movie-like dramatic way possible.
"It is time."
Right! 30 years too late to use that to make sneaky ultra-high priority phone calls
yay chibitronics!

So cool!
I want to have that Chibi 'scope be friends with my Tamagotchi

That almost looks like a porg on the right
Argh.. I just got enough superglue on my thumb that it won't unlock my iPad 😦
Is the scope only meant for chibi tronics stuff or is it universal?
@odd stream I hope you didn't glue it to your iPad
@odd stream Sounds like you're in a sticky situation.
@split gazelle 'scope & voltmeter should be universal.

Hmm, well.
wowza!
I have to find my saved URL with that song
@odd stream cool cool that’s what I thought
Yeah, that's a bit different than what I've seen previously.
Also, the new joystick is... almost identical to the one I used on the V2 of my DigiBadges
@river peak Nah, it's dry/hard... just glossing over enough for it not to work.
That joystick is cute
@split gazelle agreed! I wonder if some of our larger sized pushbutton caps fit on it
@haughty quiver It's a 2mm x 2mm square peg.
From what I remember on mine
Actually, taht one looks... a little larger, maybe?
hmm...that + the M4 metro = ideas
@river peak @split gazelle these are the ones I'm thinking of https://www.adafruit.com/product/1009
@haughty quiver oh I bet it does! I have some of those and it looks super similar
Hmmmm
@haughty quiver cool. I want to support composers like that in circuitpython in the future
@haughty quiver @split gazelle You might need to trim down the pegs on the button caps since it looks like the stick doesn't have any place for it to latch on to, but might be close enough
so much new New nEw goodness!
Microbit crickit is a killer product for education! Get kids making robots quick & easy.
I know some tech education folks that are all over the microbit. They should jump on the crickit.
Oooh, question time.
What is the current requirement for the Chibi Scope??? Wondering how small a LiPo I could use.
Any plans on for a Mega style board with the more powerful SAMD51 variants now that most formfactors are covered?
follow up to that, SAMD51 with Ethernet?
yaaay
Mega entity. I like the sound of that
yea I get that
Q: Any plans for expanding the Crickit line to cover even more aspects of robotics such as higher powered robotics?
but still if there will be a Mega style board, having Ethernet would be great, even if its not "native"
most Ethernet Ardunios out there are REALLY outdated hardware wise
An EL Wire question: EL Wire runs off of AC power, and the voltage seems to be fairly close to what is used in US power mains (Depending on who you ask). But from what I've seen, the frequency is much higher - So, what effects does AC frequency have on EL wire? (As a note, I do not recommend attempting to plug EL wire into mains power. Please don't burn your house down from a curious question from me)
@hard hollow and @rocky reef Hey guy's, what is your discount code for today. Would like to use it for some of these new products.
Any plan to carry snap connectors that support larger cable like10awg
Plus it gets you introduced to servo control and this is an excellent start for that
Can get it up and running and testing theories in minutes
@halcyon linden The AAE code is "TRIFOIL" and as far as I remember they can't stack.
@heavy siren oh thanks! today's code is: gearhead
Great thanks eh?
Oooh, so frequency affects brightness. That's... Actually super useful to know. Thanks!
@open girder What size battery would you need to run a 7-segment H16k33 backpack and a Feather M0 Express for about 5 hours, running as a timer?
Or anyone else who's better at LED power math than I am, which is to say, anyone. Because I'm terrible at it.
good luck, folks!
H16K33... Hmm.
Geordi LaForge, Mogadishu, Somalia -- and project is 42.
@clear matrix That's the one that runs the 8x8 LED displays as well, right?
If I remember correctly, that's the one I've used in the past.
Yeah.
Congrats!
Someone asked in #help-with-projects, they want to do a bingo timer and run it on a battery.
Thank you!
Depends on the LED size, but... power draw was fairly low. I've run an 8x8 display for many, MANY hours on 2 AAs
@open girder Thanks again for another wonderful evening of shows! You folks rock!
Thanks for a great set of streams!
Night all!
Thanks @open girder Great show
Thanks @open girder @dim knot @hard hollow @rocky reef and everyone. 😃
Great show Adafruit. Thanks eh? Adafruit Rocks.
Well,in turn, @open girder , thanks for leading the way / making this possible
@split gazelle Just don't cross the streams.
Oh and @haughty quiver 😉
have a great night, folks! thank you!
Thanks everyone!
@clear matrix ask them to share their results w/ battery if they can - that'd be good real world info to have shared
bye all!
bye, thank you!
Have a great night!
'night everyone!
Bye. 👋
@clear matrix battery draw will also be reduced if you use the brightness setting for the 7 segment display to something less than full brightness
I can't speak for the 7-segment, but many of these displays are retina-searing at full brightness.
Good Bye World! Chicago signing off. Gotta go order some of those new products. 😃
For sure, I'm building a fast clock for model railroads and I'm using various 7 segment displays
Me too!
Do not want to get a cramp!
Good afternoon all you wonderful people!
Hello World! Chicago here. Hope everyone is doing fine. Are we all ready for John's workshop?
@heavy siren good day
@odd stream Hello, how you doing?
@heavy siren Good!
Great, glad to hear it.
Lots of fun guide projects, and a couple longer term projects under way.
I know what you mean. Been busy with school but always make time for projects
Currently working, and figuring out how to manage the rest of the year
Wow, @waxen thistle now that's a long term project... 😃
Yeah -- well I got a lot of stuff I'm slogging through
Good ol' multi-tasking eh?
I'm still flying high from passing my tests yesterday. Did a Road trip today with a semi tractor trailer. Did pretty good too.
Level's good. Ave at -10. -6db peak
I ordered that red LED strip that looks like neon. Just got it yesterday.
Good documentary on Neon lighting: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4667682/
Good evening from Switzerland !
Hello @young adder Welcome....
My work frequently moves me as a variable between two states of NY and NJ.
Don't even get me started about the third, undefined state of confusion. I'm in the state of denial with that.
@waxen thistle Which one is ON and which one is OFF??? 😃
I'm always a bit OFF....
oooooooooooooo that's funny.
Isn't that a little off-putting? 😃
Hey, keep on topic!
That's really ON point, @analog acorn
Hey, since this is the 50th episode, shouldn’t there be cake, or something?
Are those Neon or Neoff ? 😃
Do they respond well to PWM control?
@inner spade If they are true LED then I would suspect they do respond to PWM for adjusting brightness.
Yeah, that's what I assumed. They have a 7 or 8 volt threshold, I believe.
Lost audio @haughty quiver
there goes the sound 😃
Welcome back! 😃
Congrats on 50 episodes, and let's hope the next 50 go just as well! Thanks again for another awesome show @haughty quiver !
Congrats on 50 episodes, @haughty quiver !
Yeah, still expecting cake here.
Thanks @haughty quiver ! I know I'll do something with those neon strips, I just don't know what yet !
Great show @haughty quiver Thanks eh? And remember everyone, MAKE a nice day! 😃
How many amps per meter does those strips need ?
@young adder 800ma per meter at 12 volts.
The LEDs are SMD2835 and there are 120 of them per meter.
so about 6 meters with the 12V 5A PSU that Adafruit carries
@young adder around 0.6 to 0.8A per m
Thats the Red strip.
so what the heck are these neonstrips, is it just LED with some diffusing plastic around them? fully waterproof?
@granite siren Yup, pretty much.
nvm, i'm behind, waiting for the teardown, lol
I can put a long strip around my daughter's room door !
@granite siren yes, they are regular 12V LED strips in a really great silicone covering. You would want to take some care to waterproof the ends
"sacrificial piece" 😄
@granite siren The waterproof rating is IP65
@granite siren did you see the teardown on my livestream about 15 minutes ago?
IP (or "Ingress Protection") ratings are defined in international standard EN 60529 (British BS EN 60529:1992, European IEC 60509:1989). They are used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies (tools, dirt etc) and moisture.
yup yup, this is excellent. your work is so amazing thanks for being The Awesome
Now, back to that ULN2803 : can those be used like regular transistors ? I'm not sure I understood what a Darlington thingy is ^^
Darlingtons are simply two tranies in series to provide more current capabilities.
And yes, you can use them like normal transitors.
ok so.. I'm working on a 8x8x8 LED cube, I can use that instead of my regular transistors. It'll save me some space on the PCB !
I totally landed on a stackexchange question about darlington transistors
Gosh, I didn't think about that, but the resistors are in there too ! A real space saver !
I learn something week coming in here ^^
I might be doing a guide on transistors. Message me questions you’d like answered or topics you’d like discussed.
@odd stream -- Can you talk about the recent news about transistors? Since they have weak gain at the poles, the National Transistor Party has been doubling their efforts to energize their base...
@waxen thistle I think he was looking for stock questions on a meat and potatoes topic. Don't pepper him with side dishes.
@burnt wasp Sorry, didn't mean to play with fire there. I got the feeling I bit off more than I could chew.
No worries, whatever he brews up and distills into the guide should be good.
I love his guides, they're always easily digestible.
Sure to be a pièce de résistance and something filled to capacity.
yesterday I was i am tuning in to watch @haughty quiver workshop but it was already over
when the show get interesting it was rush to prep one
https://www.twitch.tv/events/Bd-JnNfCRdm78ALZHt-Pug broadcasting on Twitch at 8:20 EST. It's boring. Hey minimalists, I got you.
no 3D hangouts this week
love the 8mb flash on the skull badge, please add more 8mb capability to future m0 boards!
Too bad the SAMD21 MCUs don't have the fast QSPI flash interface, but 8MB flash sure does look nice!
yea rather have large spi fram but those are hard to come by
Morning all. And in case I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight. 😀
SHOW AND TELL is LIVE NOW #show-and-tell - https://youtu.be/lvLp-qmp324

I'd make a medical pun, but I don't find them funny anymore since I have an irony deficiency.
JP is a veritable font of clever fun ideas. Gotta love it!
@waxen thistle I think there are some puns in the appendix...
You gotta cut out these jokes.
Scalpel... Swab...

Yes, all good stuff.
Indeed
Those masks looked really cool.
I love everything Erin makes. Any chance those halloween masks will turn into Adafruit design blogs? I'd love to see the mirror + vinyl technique and use it in my projects
Yes I'm writing the guide this week!
Sweet!
super cool @steep pilot !
Yeah, I'm looking for some structural material for a polyhedron with pixels and side light fiber, been one-way mirror curious for a bit now. 😛
@waxen thistle Groovy.

@haughty quiver 👍
Klingon translation?
I speak two languages - English and Rubbish. 😉
i volunteer to work on a pig latin version...
Hello, everyone!
ulisp should be easy to make work on the CPX
@lavish patrol My two preferred languages are English and Profanity. I find that the second is rather useful during debugging sessions.
thanks this looks fun getting this for my nieces & daycamp! https://www.smoremagazine.com/subscribe
ulisp flies on the M4
@waxen thistle And when conversing with the television.
The M4 has special instructions for digesting all of the parentheses.
Whenever I hear about the darlington chip, I think it's said in a haut accent -- a la Cruella DeVille. Dhaaaarrrrling.
M4 architecture has a discrete PSU (parenthesis subprocessor unit)
Hard drives were once called Winchester disks. I thought maybe it was because King Alfred made them popular.
Another awesome guide by Mike Barela
reminds me of the Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses
Plotting something 😉
oooh, nice AxiDraw timelapses!
