@onyx arrow welcome, great to have you here! Adding functions to props is an excellent reason to get into this stuff :)

onyx arrow
#

TY John. I was watching a tutorial by a prominent prop maker and was pretty disappointing about the lack of knowledge.

#

So many useful applications if done properly

haughty quiver
#

I've seen a lot of prop makers in the past who would buy a commercially available something-or-other and gut it for the parts they wanted. Which can work well, but sometimes its a limitation.

onyx arrow
#

It is and expensive to not do what exactly you want. At most it's lights on or off

#

Some add a sign wave chase but that's preconfigured

fallow fractal
#

We had a guy in tech (high school 1976) who curb-rescued television sets and would make one good one out of three bad ones. He was in high school and was reselling them. It was a good trade.

He never spoke in class. But I think he knew more than most of us did.

lavish patrol

I find it funny when something used for props becomes commonplace. I seem to recall an old Doctor Who episode (from the 70s I think) where the monstor was clearly made out of bubble plastic.

onyx arrow

@fallow fractal I studied Radio and Tv about CRTs many years later. It's been invaluable to my work even though I dont work on circuits

@onyx arrow If you use the search function here in this channel you can search on 'kestrel' to catch the start of the chat for that show JP did wrt the audio mixer issue.
I happened to post a link to a RONJA project graphic that has a cartoon of a kestrel (kind of bird) just before the conversation about the passive mixer (see below).

#

[10:37 PM] CGrover: @haughty quiver Here's a really simple passive mixer. Assuming that the output signals are decoupled, the R values determine the relative mix and should be around 1/10th the input impedance of the follow-on amp. If the amp impedance is >100k ohms, then you may want to place a 100k resistor to ground at the input. There will be some volume loss, of course.

@calm nebula ?Small prints as in less than an hour?

@calm nebula ...So you use the Canon camera for some time-lapse also? Does the canon stich together the time-lapse or does it puts it in one single video file?

if it has small details or short on the z axis. sometimes the wide angle on the gopro aren't the best for certain models

@scenic goblet Similarly you could start by using a featherM0 and evolve to a custom ATSAMD21 based PCB. That's likely the next version of my smarthome nodes (which I have on a breadboard now)

odd stream
#

Does anyone have any experience with the Logitech C922x Pro Stream Webcam? Especially using OBS on Linux.

forest pebble
#

yes but only a little, i used it to record the speaker for my linux group meeting earlier this week

#

@odd stream it was my first time using OBS so besides leaving both audio channels I had coming in as mono(user error/inexperience) it went really well.

odd stream
#

@forest pebble I'm looking to get a camera (that one randomly looks good and isn't too $$ as a first foray into streaming/recording) to play around with, ideally grabbing another one or two to get different angles: face cam, overhead, closeup on the project work. That sort of thing

forest pebble
#

it did a good job even in low light

#

i previously had the earlier version c920 and after 5 or so years it passed on and I replaced it with the c922

clear matrix
#

@odd stream I was the presenter. I presented on CircuitPython and had another 922x streaming to a smaller window that I had floating over the presentation so I could show the boards as I did the code. The lights were turned down so the audience could see the projector screen well enough and it was still really high quality with closeup as well. Sometimes had some issues with LEDs getting super bright, but I'm not sure there's a way around that for under a significant amount of money.

forest pebble
#

switching scenes and having multiple cameras coming in worked well with obs

odd stream
#

@forest pebble @clear matrix Cool. I seemed to have stumbled on a good choice. This would be a bench situation with full control over lighting.... quite likely involving some of those super bright LEDs.

clear matrix
#

I was able to get it to play closeup with a rainbow cycle demo using a CPX with a 24 ring soldered to the outside on full brightness. It actually focused pretty well. The key was finding the right location for the cam, it was happiest at a certain distance from the item I was attempting to get closeup to. (Happened to be my hand width which was handy.)

forest pebble
#

it may make sense to start with one and make sure it works for you then add more (unless there is some deal which helps make it make more sense to get them all at once)

odd stream
#

@forest pebble That was the plan. Play with 1, try the various ways I envision using it.

forest pebble
#

I also used an elgato camlink to connect a camcorder ....this did not work with other programs as a camera input (which I tried using to test it with.... ) a helpful youtuber had a video showing it working in linux so I opened up obs and it just worked

#

there are lots of gamers who have helpful guides for using obs (some more helpful than others)

#

have you already used OBS or just getting started with it?

Hi John - looks awesome... any reason you use a Feather M0 Express & avoid the power board? Might save space & should cost the same. ("I just didn't" is a fine answer ๐Ÿ˜ƒ )

@haughty quiver two speakers is an excellent solution -- since you have the room.

PowerBoost powers everything and charges faster than the Feather.

Sweet. Wouldn't have thought to have different heights.

pearl shoal

You could solder on the wires first to the inner row and then the tactiles afterwards to the outer row (after close trimming) - just a thought

#

Again, all good

Trinket M0 will also support CircuitPython for future feature updates.
