So I'm trying to learn how to run Rusty Lake Hotel but that dang stag beetle section annoyed me since it's initial movement is pretty random. Does anyone know of a consistent way to do it?
Like, you can pretty easily control where it moves after the fact but when you place your very first dot down, it's a total crapshoot where the beetle will move
(And yeah, I actually spent the last like 30 minutes placing and resetting the same dot and keeping notes. It's 100% random.)

OMG I just realized that the 8dl water code is a pattern that loops. 6-5, 5-10, 6-5, 10-6. It's the same formula 2 and a half times. I'm sure someone else noticed that but I just did lol

Wait... So I'm messing around with it more and I think I cam eup with something. Does backing out to the menu when the Frog is cooking the food then rushing back to the dining room actually skip the whole cooking animation? That might actually be technically faster if you can click fast enough but I'd have to be sitting there with a stopwatch timing how long each fade in/out takes compared to the frog. Anyone got that data by any chance?

Well I think I found a consistent-ish way of speeding the frog along. When you hit the "Okay" confirmation when asked if you want to begin cooking, if you can "juggle" the window by hitting the same button as it begins sliding back up the screen, you can actually increase the speed. However, if you hit it too many times you can lock up the game a little bit and actually lose you more time than you gained (like I showed in #💭｜suggestions-and-feedback since it's technically a bug). The sweet spot seems to be hitting the button exactly 4 times.

because in most of the rusty lake games you can skip the actual puzzles, input their answers, and still finish the game

I'm really interested to see what you do! But, case in point (heh), I run hotel and there's a weird artifact in the game that, if clicked, you can skip like 1/5th of the entire game just like that which is totally legal in the any% category. The only true, unforgivable sins would be to use like macros it something since it's not you doing things at that point

Rusty Lake Hotel has some weirdness like that too. Some clicks actually register a little higher than you intend which makes clicking on some of the super tiny stuff (like the Boar skip).
Oh so I've been noticing that a lot of people are submitting runs through the Collection versions of the Cube Escape games but I think its worth noting that you can still technically play the Web version if you go to the old website, inspect the game page, and open up the .swf file (that you'd have to download) with Adobe Flash Projector. Is it overcomplicated and ridiculous? Absolutely but it can make it where you don't need to submit to a mostly empty category

Funnily enough, I seem to always do the worst with Deer even though the most problematic is easily Pigeon. I might need to reorganize the run a little bit more but I stand firm at NOT doing pigeon first
That's just because I have a habit at constantly restarting things the second I hit the hard stuff but if I sink enough effort into the run already, it'll keep me going to at least finish it.

Seriously though, I wish more people ran Hotel because I've only been able to make huge time saves by learning from other people. The fact that the franchise is so segmented into so many games (Collection, Roots, Hotel, Paradise, etc) means that it's tough to even introduce it to people let alone get a speedrunning community

Fair enough, it was the first one I played and I like the freedom it gives you in how to map it out. The rest are a little too straightforward for me but I think they are better games narratively speaking (Case 23 being the best story imo)

Well I've only really tried Hotel but it kinda depends what you mean by hard. Like, theyre all made in the same engine so little things are roughly the same but at least with hotel, mapping out your run is part of the fun since you can tackle every room in any order. Also Hotel has some randomization with the Beetle so that makes them all sort of interesting
