Why this system was dropped again?

Problem was due to AI navigation and the requirement for these animations to drive the movement speed and location separately. As such you'd have AI walking into walls and off the navmesh, or running too fast/slow which meant we couldn't calculate the final location accurately. So it was too expensive to run with lots of AI, it needed a lot more data, was harder to achieve realistic navigation, and it was less precise. When we went back to a legacy system it became easy to work on the gameplay loop, because we weren't battling our anim system at the same time. 🙂

It works and would still work for a player using a controller in third person. But that's just not our game unfortunately.

They can still make the current animation system as good as Motion matching, it just need a lot of work like more blends, animations.

RE: Motion Matching (TLOU2): It's not a magic bullet. Main uses in player systems were regular locomotion, and transitions into locomotion. All other animation systems comes from hard manual work by the animators, programmers, designers.

Yeah I run mostly non-lethal, beanbag shotgun and about 15 gas grenades lmao. I keep a lethal secondary with 2 mags just in-case things get hairy and I cannot force compliance with a shout or beanbag/gas before the engagement starts.

Most non mod0 thing about it is actually the full size carry handle. The mod 0 first came with a cut down carry handle and later got a produced rear sight that looked the same.

its prolly more of a choice than anything to not allow the ai to do most of the stuff

The problem is that controlling them in RoN is very precise. Too precise. They don't do anything on their own, they don't feel like a real team

Giving them a level of independence and reactivity would work wonders for the immersion and fun factor

They start to feel good once you split them up in their blue and red team. I'm having lots of fun actually utilizing the AI rn. Simultaneous breaches is quite helpful

It's not necessarily so easy to achieve it when you want to, and if you're on the path of getting an A+ run, are you willing to risk letting the suspects stay next to you for so long? There were moments were each of those suspects could have returned fire
