As much as the SWAT AI can be dumb at times, I will always love the dynamic of them keeping eyes on every entrance of a room or hall, making sure (When they have brains) nothing gets the drop on the squad.

Or when they check to see if a door is locked. It's small, but it adds a bit to the immersion.

They also tend to take insane roundabout routes to get places which results in them getting downed because they move way out of cover and into unknown space.

Wedges, I have them and use them so you won’t be flanked and to set up your preferred entry point. Team set I have is two breachers either with breaching shotguns or batting rams depending on the mission, on grenadier armed with a flashbang grenade launch and a shield operator. Weapons are really up to personal choice go to the shooting range and try them out. Use AP rounds and give squad weapons that have good ammo capacity. Make Loadouts for squad members (if you want this is what I do) light operations Loadouts meant for low to medium amount of threats with no to low armor. Weapon’s on enemies mainly semi auto. The loadout is light armor with ceramic plates, lower caliber weapons that are also more compact and suppressed. More tools such as wedges and flashbangs on each member. Heavy operation higher caliber weapons less tools same amount of ammo and heavy armor.

suspects in real life just shoot at literally the first appendage they see when you peek, its why swat is trained to not look into a room with just your head, but to aggressively pie with your gun barrel being the first or last thing the suspect sees

Playing through the new patch... it's playable, if anything, it feels like it's back to the state of the game right before the console release,a bit janky, but the core is there and you still have fun with it

what i dont like is the new kick animation, it's cool, you do it a bit to the side like the ai animation, but the head twirls and tweaks around so much that it clips into the wall occasionally

That is true. AI is very difficult. But keep it mind, the game FEAR released in 2005 had AI that was leaps and bounds ahead of many games now so It can be done. Half life 2, and Trepang also have good AI, but it is resource intensive and I think Devs put energy into other things. The AI is less of an issue than the gas though

I get the visual downgrade might have been an "accident", and it would take time to fix that and to implement the on/off switch to the censorship, but they won't even make a direct public statement recognizing the issues and the legitimate community complaints, they'll just ignore it in a rather patronizing way, which is why I say they got a lot of nerve to announce a celebration of this "mess" (would like to describe it otherwise, but it'd be... you know... censored...)

Alright, I made it much further than before, but how tf do you get your AI teammates to just keep their shield up and let others open doors etc.
I had a teammate walk down a staircase with a shield and the entire team, protecting everyone, then just put their shield down and switch to their rifle
