So, I'm running into an issue. Whenever I start working on a sprite, what I usually start with is a recolor of the body with the head's colors. My problem is whenever I work with a head that has a very limited pallet, I kinda don't know what to do. How do I fix this?

I ran into that problem with spriting Aerodactyl's face to Flygon's body recently

Basically the head doesn't have enough colors to support designs that have more colors used in its palate

You can try to reduce the bodies color pallete. If something like a snorlax has a belly color pallete and a furr color palette, it might work to combine them and bascially remove the belly pattern

Another option is to create more colors that are slightly different than the ones from the heads colors. Thats what I used to do with clefable quite a bit

The way I handled that was looking over the color relation of the pattern to the main body color of the original body sprite and then repeating it with the head body's color palate by inventing a palate with a similar relation

Like if the green of flygon's normal body is followed with a cooler and darker green for the stripes the Aerodactyl got a cooler and darker purplish shade

Another option could be to just get rid of the darker green spots. Or to use something like the colors from the inside of areodactyls mouth instead. Just taking colors from somewhere else bascially

I'm trying to draw berries for a shuckle fusion, should I be trying to keep the color count low? A lot of berries are multicolored so i can see the color count quickly getting out of control

Should be fine from a technical standpoint, but perhaps bit of restraint can be helpful.

So, is there a quicker way of doing this? With GIMP, for each mon I make, I find every single color on it, and on a new layer make a 2x2 square of that color, so that way I have an easy to interact with palette, and then cut that color from the original to make sure that I already got that color. Once I've done this, I replace all instances of color A on the body palette with color B on the head palette. I feel like there's a way faster way of making a simple palette than this.

I skip the palette process entirely, just taking the colors from on a sperate layer and playing with the colors until I find a good balance

alright, so, here's the steps again just so we're clear:
(1) download the sprite pack as a .zip from #announcements
(2) in your downloads folder, click on the .zip that you downloaded
(3) with a program like winrar or 7zip, unzip the .zip
(4) navigate to the contents of the unzipped .zip - if you selected to unzip to a folder, go to that folder
(5) you should see a whole bunch of sprites, all with names like 1.1.png or 1.2a.png and so on
(6) select every image with that kind of filename (or just press CTRL-A on windows to select every file in the folder)
(7) open a new window and go to the folder where your game is stored
(8) go to subfolder Graphics
(9) go to that subfolder's subfolder CustomBattlers, which should already contain a bunch of similarly-named sprites
(10) move every file that you selected in step (6) to the CustomBattlers folder
(11) enjoy
