I'd like to mention, I think the spotlight is a really good idea that should totally carry over to other contests. The "no-sfx" thing seemed kinda awkward to implement as a hard rule, but i think the spotlight would be a really good nudge to encourage less sfx if it was clearly implied beforehand that keeping true to the spirit of the pokemon style would make you more likely to get a spotlight pick?

There's a lot of ways to win that don't inherently mean especifically that the winner is "quality content" or better design than the rest of participants (kaiju sprites, waifu/Gardevoir meta, visual effects, animations...). That's why I suggest taking contests less seriously and make the designs as you think they could work the best, no matter they will get more votes or less

I wouldn't be surprised if someone does a Jirachi body design that it's better designed than all of the Jirachi heads in the contest and lose in round 1 just because it's small

I just hope for Contest managers keep the Spotlight sprite idea because I think it's a good way to feature sprites that usually won't win due to their nature (small, unpopular mons, official sprite edits, etc) but are incredibly well done (like the Jumpluff in the last contest)

Honestly I was so happy to see the Jumpluff in Spotlight because I felt it was a perfect fusion and yet it lost in round 1 💀

Supposedly sprite are supposed to match the body size, otherwise it goes against the KAIJU rule which is sometime implemented

i don't mind polished autogens. one of the things that gave me the confidence to take up spriting was someone telling me that even just a clean splice is better than the current autogen, it has the human touch. so i think of it that way - even if they're design is goofy, it's still better.

The thing about Jirachi is, you don’t even need the stars for cool special effects. The base sprite already has the cloth ribbons, the “wish charm” talismans, and the extra eye which can all be used to make really interesting fusions

There’s also a good argument to be made for including the purple crystals too since they’re referenced in the Pokédex entry and they show up in one of the movies iirc
