Honestly, yeah. I'm not fond of put effects in sprites to make a design cooler. Makes me think that the design is not actually too good so they needed effects to compensate the lacking. It's basically the same thing that kaiju sprites in my book.

imo the rules for monotype contest is "both sides of the fusion should individually have the specified type", and that should be enough. The resulting fusion may not even have the type, but as long as it's predecessors both had it it's ok imo
