I found it challenging in an interesting way. I play with level caps (soft), set mode, and no items in battle except held. In my playthrough, I'd have lost to Chuck rematch and the champion rematch, had the AI not thrown at the end. I feel the AI needs a bit more tweaking, I played Kuray hard mode last year and the AI was better.

The final champion rematch fight is quite tough, though I was doing a mono dragon run and a more balanced team could find it slightly easier.

The thing that I loved most about the teams was how thematic they were. When Blue brought out his lvl 100 mon at the end, I was so happy to see that awesome fusion 😎.

As for the E4, I'd say that if people are using more balanced than OP fusions (like my legendary fusions), then it's pretty challenging, if not it's moderate difficulty.

I also had around 100+ EVs in the appropriate stats, but was still outsped, so I reckon some of the rematches have good EV investment.

Some of the stall mons can be especially tricky since they also heal with full restores a lot, but since I had a stall Goodra/Toxapex with Regenerator, it was fine.

When doing a new game, you can set a sustom starter. Just say NO when it asks if you want to "use regular starters?"

Can even make it a fusion!

For this one, I customed a double Mimikyu, then got the radar asap so I can catch Nincada, then used the Shedinja clone method to fill the rest of the team

Correct. And the way you get Shedinja is by having an open party slot and a regular pokeball when Nincada evolves into Ninjask.
(Just make sure it's a regualr pokeball. Lots of mistakes made almost daily by ignoring that fact)

oh right I have some "fake" E4 clears that I'm going to be doing properly in fall, consider these test runs. The playthrough went up to the E4 under nuz rules but none of the actual E4 portions were done with nuz rules, since the actual attempts will be in october.

First was leafeon only.

bruno and, suprisingly enough, lorelei were pretty free. Agatha might depend on if I can EV persian to outrun Miasbat since they were doing decent enough damage at +0. OHKO'ing gardoom in particular is critical because of not only inferno, but destiny bond. lance is a THIIING to put it bluntly. Klang gear shift sweep might be the play but I'm also hard stopped by the typhlosion if I don't have dig, which means giving up synthesis. There's absolutely no way I'm getting past the Togenite without boosting beforehand though. Final rival is annoying but not as bad as the previous two fights. (starter is Charizard/Venusaur which gets deleted by flash fire boosted flare blitz) I might replace sylveon and dewgong for the actual attempt, probably dewgong first since sylv was actually going good work against bruno. (also late but the qwilfish was a shiny eevee while I was training early on so I wonder traded for what to fuse it with. Qwilfish's is a cute sprite and I like the watermelon look it got.)

again, might be worth seeing if esp can outrun the miasbat but the chance is probably even worse than persian/leafeon. I'm not super comitted to iron valiant gallade though so that's a free slot for something that can potentally work. the rival is also much less free than it was in the leafeon run but that's probably because I played badly (vulpix does not answer charizard/venusaur nearly as well when it doesn't have flash fire.)

as a side note I might actually swap out levitate on some of these because there's only one or two ground moves in the vanilla E4

The suprising champion of this run was without a doubt that Magicarp/Geodude i found way back then, and the unexpected hero of the leage was Electrobat that came in for the win agains Bruno when everyone else was down.
By the way, the highest level guy there was Aegieon at 57, lowest is Electrobat at 51, everyone else at an even spread around there.

(out of a pool of about 70) these ones all fit "Two fully evolved mons with a 100+ BST difference" (goodra/smeargle), "new mon added in 6.0" (lucario/lycanroc), "mon with a move below 70% accuracy" (Reuniclus/Magcargo, the latter having Inferno via egg move), "Mon that evolves with an evo stone" (Electabuzz/sylveon), "Ditto fusion" (Cofagrigus/Ditto) and... a backup for mon below 70% accuracy (Sunflora/Yanmega with supersonic). That last one was supposed to be "fusion involving a com-mon" which would be Ferrothorn/Bibarel but I forgot about it during the attempt lol

Serene Guardian (sounds better than Sacred Guardian), Mountain's Wings, Ancient King and Fallen Knight have been the quartet to carry me throughout the playthrough. The new additions Wandering Beast (darkrai/tyrantrum) and Cyberdragon (registeel/salamence) were great additions to patch up the weaknesses of the og quartet.

Second playthrough, first Nuzlocke (except Zapmolcuno, that was NOT a triple fight the first time I came through!). I can't remove Pokemon from the team until they die and catch order is use order, because choice is overrated. Quagking carried pretty hard, but Butteroc was the MVP for most gyms. I love Compoundeyes!

Ok I’ll explain some of these

1. I was only looking at stats when deciding the Pokémon (dumb idea)
2. I was playing classic mode so all the cool Pokémon would have taken hours to find and grind
3. I get I could have taught my hm slave good moves but he was only lvl 54 from exp. all and I couldn’t be asked to level him up any further (he did actually save me in the champion fight when starkazam was posing issues and I used him to revive my team)

I’ll probs play on modern mode next time so that I can get better Pokémon and have actual type variety 😭
