Here is how I would phrase it:

POKENAME prioritizes developing a mature appearance, even though its body size remains unchanged from fusion. Because the surface area of its leaves is small, it needs to spend almost the entire day basking in the sun to continue growing.

One of the requirements we have is that a Pokédex entry needs to apply to the entire species, even legendary Pokémon. By removing the singular "A" we make the entry apply to all instances of a fusion.

Also, when referencing the surface area, I added leaves to give some sort of reference point for the reader. Describing the surface area is not a common phrase to use for a noun in English, so by connecting it to the leaves it makes more sense to the reader.

Lastly, I changed the Venusaur bit to mature as a matter of personal taste.
