You're playing classic mode. First save is locked to that. You will find other gens later. In fact, there is a gen 2 pokemon on the first route at night.

Hey @flint lake! Are you trying to evolve Tyrogue? It evolves at level 20! If it's attack is greater than its defense, it'll evolve into Hitmonlee. If it's attack is lesser than its defense, it'll evolve into Hitmonchan. If both are equal, it'll evolve into Hitmontop. You may want to fuse Tyrogue with a Pokémon that has a high attack or defense stat to make it evolve into the Hitmon you want!

Correct. Dive into the underwater section, keep diving into each subsequent dark hole. It’s a maze down there, with a few Pokémon that will chase you the further down you go (and get darker too) so be careful.

Especially if you just imported sprites. The game needs time to process the thousands of sprites you imported.

There is a big (but hidden) difference between "turning off" and "restarting"

Windows does a dumb thing where if you shut it down, it doesn't actually turn off. if goes into a deep sleep type of mode, allowing it to boot up faster when you press the "on" button.

The only way to actually turn off windows is to hold shift while pressing the "shut down" option, use the "restart" option, or have the PC be disconnected from power for a couple of minutes.

If you plan on replaying it and doing different modes/teams, play the game normally to get magic boots so your 2nd playthrough is less grindy since you can give yourself items/levels whatever you want

Hey @rapid crag! Are you having trouble with the Pokéradar? You get it from the scientist in Cerulean City's Pokécenter. She gives you the Exp share as a quest reward there, and then will go to Route 24, where she will give you the radar.
When using it, make sure you have a repel active, or else you may only get regular encounters.

Use in grass. Walk into shaking grass. If you kill/catch what you encounter, you'll start a chain and only find that same thing again. Encounter everything normal for the special encounter to show up.

Shinies do sparkle. In this game, shinies are a full hue shift (often a bright color across their whole body)
So if the mon has the usual shiny color palettes from the official games, it’s likely just an alternate sprite somebody made.

Example

Saffron requires you to go east of Cerulean through the caves there, attempt to climb Lavender Tower, then take another underground tunnel into Celadon City on the route west of Lavender to continue the story.
TLDR: Saffron is gym 6, give it some time

I fused a dry skin paras with a pichu, but the ability select screen only showed effect spore and static as possible selections

and when I unfused them after the pichu half evolved, the pikachu lost nasty plot and couldn't relearn it from the move reminder
