I use Voicemod personally. You just have to set it up a specific way
Put your headset and mic into Sonar, use Sonar as the default devices for Voicemod, and then use the Voicemod mic input for whatever you need it for.

Hey so my friend has an issue. They have a wired headset for a laptop. And they say that sonar is not picking up the mic properly.

This is what they sent.

So my headset plugs in through the aux piece and a usb piece. the aux piece is headphones, usb is mic. Well Sonar is only recognizing the aux.

My fix is using a script to modify the volume knobs input to a key (like f13/f14) and bind those in sonar master controll

Otherwise it normally only changes windows system sounds for which with sonar it will affect the gaming channel alone

no, i just gave up as started using medal.tv and reinstalled steel series. the only downside to medal tv is that it doesn't record in game chat in call of duty. You can hook steel series up to OBS replay for split audio and that also works, you just have to turn replay on every time u game

NVM figured it out.

Has my headset connected to my phone and desktop at same time. Picked up a phone call via Discord app on my phone, that I then ended.

I was connected to a discord voice channel on my desktop the entire time.

The fix was simple, disconnect Bluetooth to phone and reconnect again.

Default, but jumbling it around won't solve the issue I had.

Disconnect the headset from your phone, turnoff bluetooth, and it'll work. You can reconnect to your phone if need be

You never have to change the Voice Settings, just disconnect whatever bluetooth device you had connected to your headset. This is assuming you use 2.4 to connect to the docking station.

hello, i think a lot of people have this problem im wondering if anyone ever found a fix for it. I have a laptop which has speakers and a pair of arctis nova 7. i use sonar cause i like it but even without sonar it does the same thing. if i use my headphones for audio and the turn them off it still plays audio on them bc the dongle is still connected to the laptop. it doesnt automatically switch to the speakers. backup device switch is turned on and priority is headphones first then speakers. same goes with turning laptop off and then back on. it still stays on the headphones instead of switching to the speakers just bc the dongle is connected. auto backup device switch at boot/reboot is turned on as well. any ideas?

Hi I have a question! I've been using Steel series GG for clips (moments) for sometime and it's been perfect! I'm looking to use the clips/recordings to upload the clips and with this i found Sonar would be helpful to split my audio and allow me to remove sounds from the clips that i didn't want!

this seemed pretty great and easy to setup! I included a image of the base sonar channels - i set up "Game for my games, "Chat" for discord, "Media" for Spotify or other media outputs, i'm not sure what Aux is used for and Mic covers my Mic input.

However when clipping games using moments i'm only getting 3 channels - Audio Device (which seems to be the master audio) Chat device (this has my discord outputs) and Microphone (This is my microphone input). Is there a way to add Game and Media channels in these clips so that i can split all of them etc?

My windows device is setup as Sonar - Games currently.

Anyone have the issue where your sound intermittently drops out? - I get no sound at all if my default output is Arctic Headset Game but if I set it as Arctic Headset Chat then I get sound but it treats the game like it's a chat sound that it needs to lower to reduce background sounds. All volume wheels are linked to windows master sound and due to sonar using multiple channels for chatmix and stuff only 1 channel will be affected which is the one thats set as windows main sound device

Thats why it affects gaming only as sonar sets it as default in windows

Hey, I just connect my devices through Sonar mainly because of my mic. But then Sonar also starts to capture all my games, discord etc. and that is not the problem.

But I also started to stream from time to time and I don't know why but the output called STREAM doesn't capture my game for some reason neither my CHAT (so nobody on discord is heard on stream) I tried to fix that by adding another audio output on Streamlabs where I can put CHAT so people can hear my friends on Discord but my game is still muted. One and only solution is moving my game capture to the CHAT mix but that also changes a sound of the game a lot.

Is there anybody that can help me with that? I also can reinstall the Steelseries Sonar and go through it with you cause I'm kinda lost. Thank you

the old APW has a noise gate on the chat output that can't be turned off. that's built into the hardware, not sonar, but sonar can exacerbate the problem if you have a lot of audio going into the chat device like media/aux

SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in Sonar. Simply click on your devices in the Mixer and open the Device Manager in Sonar.

3. If you are having issues with step 2 or step 3 above, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

If you see the "Sonar did not allow this app to change outputs" error, then step 1 above did not work, and you may need to do step 2 or step 3 to route your audio.

Hi, in the Sonar software, when setting up audio spatialization, I can clearly distinguish each speaker: rear right, right, rear left, and left.
However, the front right and front left speakers sound messy and diffuse — they don’t seem to come from any clear direction.

My case is that I recently brought the Arctic Nova pro Wireless so I switched from Nahimic to sonar and
my main issue is that from time to time I record my gameplay with the shadow play of Nvidia and with my friends on discord so the thing is that I record my mic and discord doesn't get record at all...

I guess is mainly because I use gaming and main, chat and mic channel (and some times Media)... I figure that switching to streaming mode would merge my sound into the streaming mic but even with that config it doesn't capture the sound of discord or media channels

I set my discord output to the "Chat" channel.
Then you can make sure the stream icon is lit up under Chat on Mixer. Also make sure the fader is up and not muted. Lastly, in NVIDA - you want to make sure your audio is recording the "Stream Virtual Audio Device".
That away you can include/exclude the chat channel on the stream output inside Sonar.

Then just toggle the switch.

I have my non-streamer mode to use my headset mic/headset. While Streamer mode uses a nicer microphone and normal headset.

I just switch the little toggle and it works perfectly at changing all the "inputs/output" settings.

Check your default system audio setting in the taskbar. Make sure its set to Sonar - Gaming.
Sometimes in updates audio defaults can change. Also, might wanna check your audio settings on Windows to make sure they are set to Sonar Microphone (Input)

I would recommend to avoid distortion to keep the game volume just entering into the "yellow" in loud parts on the meters

You could also "right click - filters" and add a compressor to push the signal louder using "Makeup gain"

1. Turn up the game?
2. Adjust your Sonar levels
3. Adjust your OBS levels
4. Adjust Post- Recording

essentially in this order... Always start with the source to make changes to your overall levels.
Then work your way through the "audio-chain"

If its off at the source it only gets hard the further down the chain you go

Yeah - It sounds like the VAD has some type of "boosting" happening to it.
Meanwhile, the game device coming in directly is not receiving the same type of "amplification".
Unsure why this happening without delving deeper into the settings.

It actually sounds better with the boosting.
Are you using EQ or anything on the VAD?
I am assuming the game is on the game "track" inside of Sonar.
I would look there to see what is being applied to the sound.
That's [possibly] driving the difference.

In all honesty , I would run all your audio through SONAR and get that amplification through the VAD.
Instead of Capturing the game audio on its own in OBS.
Best to get that loud crisp recording.
Users can always turn it down, but becomes harder to turn up in post.

Hey y'all is there a way to set a keybind to switch EQs? I think this would be a nifty feature overall, especially if the keybind can be shared to "Device Switch" or something. Basically I have a speaker that has extremely loud bass and I don't want to wake neighbours up as I have a night job, so my EQ needs to be quiet on that end but when I use my headphones it becomes weird and has no bass at all. Not dumb, When you click on the presets (a list of presets will open) on the right side you'll see an icon that say Add New

@grim bolt but i think Chatgpt will give you values, which you'll need to enter manually. Duplicate a flat preset and start there. Delete existing nodes if it doesn't let you add more.

@amber cove Try Disabling Sonar from the setting (inside Steelserise GG software) you can still run eq via Engine, but you'll not have the same control since eq from Engine is applied directly to headphones.

You need to change your output in Discord voice and video settings to "Sonar - Chat" for ChatMix to work

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

3. If you are having issues with step 2 or step 3 above, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

If you see the "Sonar did not allow this app to change outputs" error, then step 1 above did not work, and you may need to do step 2 or step 3 to route your audio.

SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in Sonar. Simply click on your devices in the Mixer and open the Device Manager in Sonar.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same Device Manager menu. Simply drag and drop to set the order of devices.

yes they are both physically my headset. For example, with my old headset my pc recognised two audio devices. when i plugged in my headset, it showed "Arctis 7 Game" and "Arctis 7 Chat". I would then go into sonar, select the game for game and chat for chat. This headset is only recognised as one device. So if i plug one device into sonar, and use the slider, it is sliding from the same device to the same device

The volume is set to 34% after an update for no reason. Will turn off the updates if it keeps coming after updates. The old v was easy to change it back to 100 from 34 but now i cant finde where to change it i hope they can fix that part to in the futhure 🙂

hey, does anyone know if it's normal that spotify and my game (World of Warcraft) get awful quality as soon as I join a voice channel on discord? all app are properly routed, have arctis nova 7x, spotify on media, wow on gaming and discord on chat in any possible menu (in app, windows mixer and sound panel). virtual gaming is default output in windows, virtual chat is default communication output.

If you're using the streamer mode is there a way to still be able to mute your mic, not just the "stream" mic but the personal side one? The muting on streamer mode only deals with hearing your own mic

The routing in Sonar is basically a gui for the feature in Windows

So if Windows can’t route the audio neither can Sonar
