In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

3. If you are having issues with step 2 or step 3 above, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

If you see the "Sonar did not allow this app to change outputs" error, then step 1 above did not work, and you may need to do step 2 or step 3 to route your audio.

I'm getting crazy. This is showing that my microphone is working. For example, I'm recording now a WhatsApp audio. The strange thing is that even if I'm talking, I get sometimes complete silence (EVEN IF the microphone green bar isn't zero or near zero) and sometimes voice (and this happens when very loud sound are captured from the microphone from what I see). is this happening to you too?

at first I thought it was something related to sound processing, but I deactivated EQ, noise reduction, clearcast, compressor and noise gate. very very strange

Well… that’s not 100% true. Y’all made chat mix bound to sonar. So if we want to use a feature that used to just work with windows, it’s required now. And that sucks. Because id much rather use the eq’s on the base station with the nova pros but chat mix is very much needed when using discord while gaming.

Okay, we're talking past each other and seem to be using the software differently. I actually only use Sonar manually because it lets me separate analog and digital devices. And the automatic "fallback device switch" doesn't work if you're using an analog sound system and then want to switch to your headset, or use both at the same time. Quickset could solve all these problems, but it's just not thought through; it's only focused on headsets and gaming.

Every now and then the client will also bug out and refuse to open, forcing me to delete/end task on multiple SteelSeries GG Clients before it will work again

Short: You don't.

As far as I know you cannot remap the media controls on a SteelSeries keyboard, but I might be mistaken as I don't own one as long as there is no low profile one. In Windows the media controls will always control the currently active device and since the master channel has no device so you cannot select it. Even if you could select it, as soon as you move it to 0 and back up, all your variations in the other channels would be gone.

I've put Master and Mic to 100%, Gaming, Aux and Media to 30% and Chat to 60%. I control the Gaming channel with the media controls and assigned shortcuts for Chat and Media so I can conveniently control Game sound, Chat volume and Media from within a game.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected. I have given up on Sonar. For me, it caused way more problems than it solved, including bugging out the mic on my Razer headset so bad, I had to deinstall GG to get it to work again. I reinstalled GG and will just use it for watching the battery levels on my KB and mouse, and setting the illumination. Honestly, having to macro several different volume controls is too much of a hassle in my book.

At first I disabled Sonar as well, but I grew custom to the Mixing funtionality now. You can leave Master to max and use Gaming for everything - no need to switch it off. I love having different EQ settings for Media and Gaming at the same time but I hate you cannot enable Atmos - Sonar spatial sound is really bad in my opinion.

if your capture card comes with software, you can just have that software open and then the software will play the audio. OBS can also do this too if your card didn't come with software, just set the video's audio feed in OBS to "Monitor" so you can hear it

As @south stratus said it's your ChatMix which is tuned fully to chat. You can control it directly with the dial on your headset.

I have done a windows and GPU update last night and when I have turned on the pc this morning I get no audio from sonar. If I turn off Sonar, I get audio but I want Sonar on.. I have checked and all settings seem correct, sonar gaming is the default sound setting and the sonar devices are set up right.

When I try to play music, the AUX column on the mixer shows no audio coming through but when I go on sound settings I can see Gamedac game playing audio that I cannot hear. If i change the music from aux to chat, i see a line to represent audio playing but nothing coming through.

I have checked for updates, Windows, Steelseries and AMD sound drivers etc and all seem to be up to date.

I have re installed Steelseries.gg and that has not fixed it.

Does anyone know how to fix this please

i listen to my device and it sounds loud enough for me but as my friends say, it sounds a bit quieter than what i hear. for context, i've also tested when im relaxing my back onto my chair and speak, i sufficiently hear myself in listening to it while my friend said he doesn't hear me or even quieter. i also tried even when i speak directly near the mic, it sounds loud to me and quieter to their side.

yeah, thats the problem. I'm blind and use a screen reader to access it. and I can't find anyway to get there with the keyboard by hitting tab, or other commands. and putting a support ticket to steel series is a huge major pain, the ai bot is stupider than a rock.

oh, randomly pressing enter on things and moving the mouse around the screen clicking got me to the new device manager.

I don't know why they got rid of the lovely setting under sonar for device backup switching settings.

hey yall! used sonar as my all in one audio manager on my last system and carried it over to my new build. i am having a consistent issue preventing sleep on windows the culprit is sonar as the issue resolves when sonar is not running, there are no active audio sources or other applications monitoring audio, have had this issue before and it seems to come about every few gg updates

Analog audio devices are headsets/speakers that use the 3.5mm headphone jack as the primary way to connect to the PC or console.

Please note that analog headsets use your on-board audio drivers to run the headset. Due to this, analog headsets are not compatible with SteelSeries Engine and will not show up on the device list in Engine.

I have been using steel series for years. I ended up downloading engine and working with it over more complex audio systems like vm banana because the hardware seems to plug and play better with it. Moved onto sonar when engine was discontinued I'm really getting fed up with the package offered in the app. recently I have found it horribly slow, crashes and cuts out my audio randomly and using bluetooth devices it's a 50/50 if it will recognize the device has been turned back on. has anyone else been facing similar frustrations?

SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in Sonar. Simply click on your devices in the Mixer and open the Device Manager in Sonar.

Double check you have sonar streaming enabled. Then route your chat audio through sonar chat, and disable / mute sonar chat in the sonar app. That should work. You also may have to open the chat, join the voice channel then go into windows audio settings and assign the sonar chat to out put settings. That should work.

Why remove features with updates.... people use these features to function in their worfklows. It is extremely frustrating if they dont add this feature back I'm just gonna sell my headphones and go with Astro. Every update just upends all of my settings. I can't keep spending time configuring my sound devices.

Ran into an interesting issue, and I am curious if it is a bug, or if something in my settings caused this somehow.
I couldn't get Sonar to play anything through the "Game" output. Not even the test sounds would play. I ended up moving my game to the media section temporarily until I could restart my PC and run all needed updates.
After restart, Sonar would not even bring up my game to route. I restarted the PC again, restarted GG several times, checked all my Sonar settings to make sure that my headset was selected as the output device, and even fully reinstalled GG. The fix was to go into Settings>Sound>App volume and manually change the game to use the Gaming output. It immediately got picked up by Sonar after that.

Ultimately there is a bot that plays music in twitch via spotify and i have been led to believe that sharing option in discord to also have the same audio as spotify in discord , would solve this , till i came accross these niggling issues with the doubled audio , but none the less , what i wish to do is capture the same audio into discord . so basically i think your alternative solution i may have already tried but maybe have not setup the correct ways. I think the wording is pretty poor. What line-out is meant exactly if I turn off the function? The way I understand the text "Consider my wireless Arctis Nova device if it is plugged in but not powered on" is, that it will not switch to another device if the option is enabled but it does exactly the opposite - just tested it.

Anyone have a way to make it so changing audio output device via the Windows Taskbar Volume shortcut actually works? an update not long ago when sonar started linking the audio device to all the Sonar channels made it so I can only switch between Headset and Speakers through Sonar

I use sonar as my stream mix so I can use it as a mixer. When I have streamer mode turned on, there is a constant mic monitoring where I can hear my mouth sounds (lol) and mouse clicks etc, but viewers and chat can't. It still bothers me. All mic monitoring sources are off but it's still there. What causes this?

How can one release such a tool that is so hardcore crap? I loved my old Arctis and its driver, but since I got my new Arctis and this new Steelseries GG it went downward really fast. This Sonar thing is not working correctly since a year +. It is constantly not switching correctly to my headset when I turn it on and at least after some time it "fixed" itself which is no longer happening, and I cant even find the options to change it manually. I am honestly so fed up with this software and will nevver be getting anything from this company again...

Does anybody play Delta Force? After the GG update I'm not longer able to mute my mic in sonar with the shortcut I set up while playing Delta or other games in full screen. Works fine on windows desktop, worked fine before the update. I already opened a ticket bud i wanted to know if someone had the same issue and found out something about it. btw it works with some other full screen games, like call of duty launched via the xbox app.

Disable it in the window sound devices panel as an audio device and it will disappear from sonar (ie, disable the AUX device, and the purple AUX channel there will disappear.

usually the EQ built into the hardware is the basic graphical EQ. you can access that in Engine, but keep in mind that the EQ in Engine would affect the whole headset

alternatively you can just put the stops on the parametric EQ in the same spots you'd find the 10 band and just raise/lower them vertically, it would work the same

click on any VAD's output device. it should show a list of devices with "Device Manager" at the bottom. use the device manager to disable VADs

arctis nova pro issue here - never had this problem before. no audio through headphones although sonar is recognizing them and toggling to/from them when powered on/off. even getting audio bars jumping on sonar with audio playing..just nothing to headphones
