In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

3. If you are having issues with step 2 or step 3 above, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

If you see the "Sonar did not allow this app to change outputs" error, then step 1 above did not work, and you may need to do step 2 or step 3 to route your audio.

Engine is used to modify device settings. Generally, any changes made in Engine are saved to the device itself, and can be carried over to other devices such as consoles. It's recommended to check the SteelSeries support pages for more information on what is saved on-board for your particular product.

Sonar is used to enhance your audio on the PC that is currently running it. Changes in Sonar only apply to the machine it's running on and cannot be saved to the headset.

I guess in SteelSeries Settings > Capture and Sound > CHAT DEVICE if You set the music app to a different device that works similarly to Default playback device from Windows separated from the "AUDIO DEVICE"
Might need to test out the different devices or add more options like I mentioned
I think the "CHAT DEVICE" is the separate audio from what is heard in chat, so I thought it had the possibility to be replaced for catching music instead

The first time I tried Sonar, the audio levels changed and went really quiet, but when I turned it off it returned the same volume level.

Or maybe it just left the volume settings low, and just need to manually turn them back up for each app in Windows settings

Not sure if it's better than no answer (might not be factual), but I asked an AI and it's response was:

1. Press and hold the SteelSeries function key (the key with the SteelSeries logo).

2. While holding the function key, press the "O" key to activate gaming mode. The number "1" will light up to indicate that gaming mode is active.

If you want to switch back to typing mode, press and hold the SteelSeries function key and press the "I" key. The number "2" will light up to indicate that typing mode is active

Well could try unplugging the first headset if You didn't and maybe restarting the PC first
After restarting, after the headset is plugged in, there might be a popup that asks You something like did You plug in a headset or a headphones, and choosing headphone might make the sound work or not depending on what it is

We probably have different devices, but for some reason when I chose "Headset" I had no sound until I re-plugged it and switched to headphones even though the device wasn't headphones...

Another place You could take a look in is in Windows Settings > System > Sound > More sound settings the interface looks like it has more advanced options that the simpler interface doesn't have, related to audio

Your input is what you set your mic to. If it's set to " Windows Default" it's most likely sending all your audio to your peeps in Discord. Make sure your mic is only set to that.

I already did, I am trying to balance gaming with some extra productivity for work. The Aerox 9 I bought ~a year+ ago typically sits in its box unused since I missed the return window. Only took it out for this limited use case. And I figured, no this can't be right still, let me try it again. Nope, this Aerox 9 mouse is still not the solution. So yes, I have a Logitech G604 ordered for future limited use situations like this. Thank you for you answer. I like my steel series headset, I am on my second pair of those. Your headphones might still be fine because I noticed when I tried switching audio devices the system saved different volume settings like some apps might have been saved as muted or low volume.

So if Windows System > Sound > Volume mixer > (expanding an app) > Output device didn't let You set set your headphones maybe it needs to be enabled in Windows Settings > System > Sound > More sound settings

I just got the Arctis Pro Wireless, when i select headphones (arctis pro wireless game) i get tons of lag in games and youtube wont load videos. But when im selecting Headphones (arctis pro wireless chat) neither of those issues occur. i dont seem to have surround sound when selected to chat soooo what could be the problem?

I didn't clearly understand what happened before, I have 2 guesses that might clear that up:

When You had Windows 11,
Sonar was working at some point but when it bugged
You tried to reinstall Windows 11 to see if it would fix it.

Your computer was on an older version or on Windows 10,
and Sonar was working during that,
but when You installed Windows 11,
Sonar was getting errors.

When You mentioned that Sonar was working for less than 5 min and the error code returned,
I'm not sure if it was while the app was open,
or if You left it for the next day, and maybe the app automatically updated (if You tried installing an older version of SteelSeries GG)

If You didn't try installing an older version,
that's the next thing I would try

So when I read "wireless game", it sounds like it might be a mode optimized for gaming, so maybe it like gives less priority to apps in the background that might not be games or something like that, but my guess could be way off

I had windows 10, my pc corrupted randomly, Had NO issues with steelseries at all, Switched too Windows 11 ,i am now getting an issue when i install the application, it will tell me that it is "turning steel series sonar on" in the General tab under settings, Infinitely, I have also had another error that pops up telling me "The Core process of SteelSeriesSonar.exe does not seem to be running Please make sure that you are launching the software using the shortcut in the start menu" . I have NEVER seen these errors, The last one is an error that pops up under the "SONAR" Tab "Unable too start Sonar. Please retry, -- Error:3221225477" , I have completely removed SS from my PC using Revo Uninstaller, ive installed Older versions of the program , Ive installed the latest update, ive checked all audio drivers, I still cannot figureou tthe issue, there is not much online about this, and when i try too make a support claim, Via the SteelSeries website, it wants me too select a device that ive purchased, which is no help for software related issues, Ive made a thread about it and have got no response from anyone.

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

3. If you are having issues with step 2 or step 3 above, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

If you see the "Sonar did not allow this app to change outputs" error, then step 1 above did not work, and you may need to do step 2 or step 3 to route your audio.

This just happend to me to i was gaming and then heard some white noise from the headset. My artis 7 (1month old) and after the white noise i got no audio from my computor. Hey, I have two problems with Sonar.

The first issue is that the microphone volume indicator doesn’t detect when I’m speaking.

The second, more serious problem is that the sound from my headphones cuts out completely, and I can’t hear anything—whether it’s media, gaming, or anything else. The only thing I can hear is audio from my phone via Bluetooth.

When I turn off Sonar or SteelSeries GG, everything starts working normally again.

generally the point of the headphone jack on standalone microphones is to monitor you voice and hear yourself while using it. you'd need to check the support for your mic to see if you can turn that monitoring down/off. if not then you should probably just plug the headset directly into your PC

I charged my Arctis 7 with my phone charger (a fast charger) it does not wanna charge with the normal USB A to C cable it shipped with, it does stay alive whilst being plug in tho. Charging with my phone charger still works. I know this isn't a super big deal, but I'm using steelseries sonar with a Blue Yeti microphone and even though it's picking up the audio and it's filtering through discord and everything else just fine. The audio input bar like the mic bar thing isn't going up and down when I talk even though every other one. Like when I'm in a discord call with my friends. SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.

Quick question for everyone. Is there no way to mute the microphone in stream mode? It only mutes either stream mix or personal when I am in need of actually muting the microphone, as observed with disabling stream mode. There are moments when I need the mic muted for both stream and discord.

i have been using sonar for a while when streaming to split audio and everything has been fine, BUT recently the mic (within sonar) has been really scuffed
when i test it in the app its completely fine BUT when i use it anywhere else, in the browser, discord or in valorant ITS HORRIBLE, it makes like a super super loud wind ish noise and its unusable. When i turn the app off the mic is completely fine again

I am wondering if anyone has knowledge about setting up sonar with the Elgato HD60X. I have my gaming pc streaming my games to my laptop where I use OBS to stream on Twitch. I've been using Voicemeeter up until now; however, I am getting very tired of the robotic audio that keeps occuring with it. I have sonar installed on both the desktop gaming pc and my laptop streaming pc. However, I cannot seem to get my Elgato to produce sound in the sonar app. Also, it only shows up in sonar if I have the 4k capture utility software open, and this prevents me the Elgato from working in OBS.

I just came back to home and when I tried to charge my headset (Arctis Nova 7), it started to make white noise. are you using bluetooth? that usually happens due to bandwith limitations on bluetooth. you should always use the USB-C dongle when you can since it uses a different connection type.

Hi everyone, I have a....Steelseries Arctis Nova 7 wifi. I somehow misplaced the USB-C transmitter and so ive been using bluetooth on the headset.

After installing GG (Didnt have it on for about 3 months) i believe the headset updated and now it connects to bluetooth on the pc but gives me no mic. Audio works fine. Windows 11.

On my linux partition and my Google Pixel 7A phone, mic and audio work fine over Bluetooth.

I have tried unpairing and repairing the bluetooth on pc to headphones.
I have made sure the headset and headset mic are default.
Discord and Teams both see the headset and have set it as the input and output.

Any ideas?

Hi, I have a problem with my Arctis 9X wireless headphones. The issue is that when I’m not in a Discord voice channel, I can hear everything, like Spotify and in-game sounds. However, as soon as I join a voice channel, I can only hear my friend, and all other sounds from games and apps stop working.

I discovered that if I change the output device in the little speaker icon in the bottom right corner of the taskbar from SteelSeries Arctis 9X Headset Stereo (Speakers) to SteelSeries Arctis 9X Headset Stereo (Headset), everything starts working again. However, the sound becomes very weak and muffled.

For reference, these are the Xbox version of the headphones, and I have them connected to my PC via Bluetooth in case that helps.

I don't know of any app that explicitly writes to the screen. You can still just download the standalone LibreHardwareMonitor to view stuff, but that's just a program you'll need to keep open and directly look at. (Plus you'll just be downloading a program with the same security issue)

Won’t pair. I press and hold the power button on the headset for 6 seconds and nothing happens. The other thing is the volume knob is not responsive on the docking station or the headset itself. It’s as if the volume is locked in. I have to adjust to volume manually in the equalizer menu. Is this normal? How fix?

Nevermind, I got it figured out. Apparently you shouldn't have the phone jack cord plugged in from the headset to the docking station, and restarting the PC helps. Paired, volume controls work, full power.

using the brand and model of your motherboard you can find what audio interface it uses but i just find it weird it doesn't show in device manager
