is it a bad idea to have a Minecraft server in the EU (vanilla survival and maybe like 30 plugins) but then have people from the US join? I just don't know how it feels to have 200 ping lol but that was the case when I used dedi from EU to host something other then Minecraft, and that non-minecraft game, sure ppl had high ping but it was a great experience but i find it hard to believe but idk, the game in question is older then Minecraft and started out as a mod so not actually a game, well i would really not want to segregate the playerbase by having a dedi with a US company in the US then a dedi in the EU, with 2 separate survival worlds, etc, I guess there is no solution to this?

But for me connecting to the dedi was like 40 ping but that's only because it's close to me lol

Youth office lady said I should just go to "Don Bosco" in Würzburg. Learn a job there and get the higher school degree in the process.

After waiting for quite a bit til everything was settled, off I went. Seemed fine at first but eventually failed. Most jobs were not the right thing.
In hind sight, the IT instructor just hated me. Picked on me a bit, marked tasks as not done/failed for things like partially missing docs and gave me hard tasks in the first weeks, a giant, mind numbingly boring and dry "I want this fool kept busy without thinking of tasks" task for the rest.
back on topic. I didn't make it. next years were a big back and forth on how I shall proceed. School-no school-school-.. got a "not ready to work" cert from my psychologist. Started building a full MC network by myself. Forced, traumatic move here. kept trying the MC thing (40?k). failed because no help/getting ghosting/loss of motivation. Start of study from home. progress(ish). depression. covid so off goes the mini job. mom had a stroke, now partially paralyzed. no study from home anymore bc no moneys.

That's good, although it's going to be difficult making plugins with just C++. I'd recommend taking a bit of time to learn Java. Considering your familiarity with C++, I imagine this shouldn't be too difficult. After that, you should be able to write plugins with relative ease.

Well, that's also a possibility, although not one I'd recommend, since it may be difficult to learn both Java and the plugin API at the same time. But if you prefer doing both simultaneously, then that's also an option.

You can also use a different JVM language if you prefer, like Scala or Kotlin.

Depends on which farms. There are some small deviations with Vanilla in terms of certain redstone mechanics and mob spawning, so if you want a one-to-one Vanilla experience, you should probably not use Paper. If those details are irrelevant for you, then you shouldn't notice any difference between Vanilla and Paper.

I mean, i did a roleplay server, in part, you gotta remember that it's a niche area in which takes a lot of effort to pull off

if pulled off correctly you can create an awesome experience which works well

Issue is is that that is not easy and often requires a large group of people just creating the content for people to consume

Basically, I was making industrial server with complete IC2 electricity mechanic with plugins, and prob it is what you shouldn't do, RPG sounds lotta easier

I've been part of an RPG server for ten years now. I think it's a great idea, but it's quite hard to start initially.
Make sure getting into the server is as easy as possible (good tutorial, clear path for players after that).
Also you need to work around the issue that players will always play content faster than you can create it. Easiest way is adding some grindy endgame content, but if it's not rewarding enough your players will dislike that. Other, imo better, option is something competitive, because that can create infinite gameplay by itself

Also really depends on what Rpg server means for you. Some people count SMPs with mcmmo as RPG lol

my server was like a RPG/Kingdoms hybrid, only downfall was that the kingdoms aspect could cause too much damage to the RP aspect at times, limiting the damage of that was always the struggle (but, in part, management chaos)

we struggled with that as well. for the new map we are now putting players into three main alliances with pre-defined war zones so we can still get cool wars between players, because in terms of player activity those were the definite highlight of the server. but player cities are safe outside of those war zones

really interested in how that will work out

Paper doesn't change redstone, unless you enable one of our alternate redstone algorithms, which can break some redstone contraptions that rely on directionality, because they change the update order to actually make sense (and while at it, drastically improve the performance)

What do you think, should mojang publish / make snapshots for people? Like, I rarely see developers of other games making something like snapshots, maximum is beta updates or something which publishes not with minecraft's snapshot frequency. And I also think it takes time to publish it all, rather than just make commits and don't care about snapshots, and for usual players it'd also sorta benefit, because they will enjoy update only when it releases, they won't think about "I hate mojang because feature X has removed in snapshot Y"
