Hmmm... It's weird, I came to conclusion that APIs need to define their level of abstraction. For example, Bukkit API has PDC which is abstractions over saving additional data with minecraft's one, its implementation detail is NBTs. But there is also NBT API plugin by tr7zw, which is more "low-level" to minecraft than PDCs, but its goal is different and possabilities are larger rather than PDCs. And also there is Fabric API, which is basically hooks to vanilla minecraft, so there are spectrum of API abstractions, which are the most important difference between server-side modding and plugin development... (idk what I am saying, run away, lol)
