I once had an idea a couple years ago for a mod that allowed you to build similar stuff to what create offers

In Java's case they did it before the JIT was a thing I think

but that seems to be the outlier

It's probably faster than a normal interpreter too since they have more control over native instruction generation and can do some simple pattern matching to turn sets of instructions into a block of native code instead of just doing them one at a time

Means they don't have to write all that shit twice and either try to keep it in sync or write tools to convert between different formats for when they switch from interpreter to JIT or bail back to interpreter for unexpected paths or debuggers

yeah just checked the Java team doesn't rely on C1 or C2 for their Interpreter at all

they straight up do nearly everything in Assembly

So in C your compiler handles your stack based on OS and/or CPU defined ABIs

For a JIT you have to do the same thing, the C compiler doesn't do it for you
