At that time, around 60 players. Server has 10.5GB of ram and runs on three R9 5950x threads.
I have the ViewDistanceTweaks plugin that varies ticking and non-ticking distances according to performance. It's at most 7, and some worlds have it capped at 5 or less.

if you're actually able to sustain 18+ TPS with that, I'd say it's good enough, but you're reaching the limits of single server unless you want to sacrifice gameplay further, which imo becomes not worth it past a point
people with 100+ players on a single survival server in 1.17 usually do so by limiting entities and view distance to an extreme amount where I find it very unenjoyable to play as a player

They generate at 1/3 resolution because their noise implementation is too slow and chunk gen is/was on the main thread ๐
You generate 2D noise and use those coords on the 3D chunk data to set the Y to 64

i cleaned the fucc out of my pc. had a nice layer of dust on my cpu radiator and dust bunnies everywhere. poor bb
but then i turned it on and my fucking cpu was at 90 c and thermal throttling 
no idea why. but i ended up finding out that I had my water pump plugged into cpu_opt...didn't know i had a dedicated water pump port...so switched that. and my radiator has two fans, so one is in cpu and the other in cpu opt, and now the temp is at 58
was at 37 before booting into windows. i guess that's ok. but i still dont know why it's so high. wonder if my pump is going bad
