Hello. I was wondering if I could get a general opinion about what's best practice, security wise. If I wanted to run a server of any type of game on linux, should I create a user just for that game and have it run it, or is it fine if I just have cronjobs manage it and have it entirely in a folder in my home directory?
When I look at tutorials on how to set up factorio or 7dtd it says to create a user, but I find using cronjobs and having it's entire contents in one folder a lot easier.

If the game isn't running in a separate user account that has the least amount of privileges it actually needs to run, even worse if it's running on root or a user with sudo access, then that somebody can wreck your life.
