Well, the carbon emissions of gas and transporting it are well documented and measured. I think the current stats are you have to own an electric for 8 years to catch up. Combustion engines only operate at about 60% efficiency too. There is a lot of potential energy in gasoline that isn't being utilized as of yet.

Buildtools does what paperclip does, just in a source code level. It has to decompile, patch, then recompile. Paperclip is in a binary level, so it just applies and makes a patched.jar
