low pause isnt 'everything' though, sure its good, but also have to consider effeciency of gc and cpu usage. i agree zgc does look good in regards to pause times, but im an expert on g1 so not gonna just jump to something blind without understanding internals. ill need to dig deeper into zgc to learn more about its cost to achieve lower pause.
I did just make some tweaks to my flags and having promising results already
but FFS MC really? I reduced g1 region from 16MB to 8MB and got a humongous allocation, only 1 region so far though
