I used to know how, but it was on my older, better computer. It broke so now I'm using my father's computer with windows 7

press win+r
and paste %appdata%
and click run
you do have an appdata folder otherwise hollow knight wont work

Click on view, it should open a header window (names escape me), on the right is a empty check box that says "Hidden items" check the box

I had to install the sub folders individually, it was being angry at the size of the main sprites folder

specifically looking @ the seeing each frame in an animation one by one, onionskinning, and having different features on different layers during animation, i've never used krita and i'd prefer a similar setup in firealpaca, clip studio paint, or medibang if possible, but am willing to learn krita.
(if anyone additionally has good info on using spritepacker, it would be appreciated, the only tutorials i can find are difficult to understand)

If you're using Krita, you need to use a special version of the .pngs, because Krita is weird about transparency and the devs refuse to fix it (||they literally only blame the OS, and say that it can't be fixed||).
You either need to download the Krita version of GoDump from the pins, or of you want I can DM you the sprites. You will need the Krita python script though, which again, is either in the pins directly, or in a message right next to the relevant pinned one.

I don't wanna ping mods about it, but out of curiosity, is it okay if I just post a .zip of the Krita version of the main pngs used for Custom Knight here?
(I assume it is, since all sprites are available between the Modding channels and art channels)

yeah, i accidentally saved my skin as a 24 bit png instead of transparent png and i had similar issues

there's not much reason to be so cynical about something that isn't readily apparent unless you actually know it exists.
Hi, I had an idea for a mod, and was wondering how easy/difficult it would be to implement, or if its already been done. The mod would simulate specific splits in the any% NMG category. It would set the player at the start of a specific split, with a random quantity of soul, geo, and masks that the player might have. (Different for each split, depending on what the player would go into that split with). It will also give the player the abilities they would have at that point in a run. Then, it times the player through that split, ending once they reach the endpoint of the split. The player may also have to meet a threshold of geo, soul, and masks, in order to keep the run more accurate and prevent bad habits in runners. I plan to just do this for any% nmg first, but if it does well I might expand it in the future. Does this seem like a good project, or does it already exist and I'm a fool? (Also, I'm almost completely new to modding, so this is less of a right now thing and more of a future thing. If you know any good resources or things I need to learn, please let me know or DM me.). Please don't take my idea (assuming it is my idea and no one else did it)

might be better looking at this as :
player can set "start point" & "end point" and can set starting items. on reaching end it gives you the time you took and an option to warp back at start point.
also, look at the code for the debug mod as that basically has all these features as setting spawn point / warping to it and giving a players start abilities, it might be suitable as an extension to that mod.

does anyone know why this happens? i'm making a customknight skin, but when i finished all the frames of the run animation (it looks normal in spritepacker) there's a little flicker of the original knight. did spritepacker miss a frame?
afaik the knight randomly goes back into the walking state for 1 frame on every loop of the run animation
oh, the walking in dirtmouth animation?
i guess i can fix that by just completing the walk animation
yeah if you just finish everything then the flickering should disappear

Randomizer 3 + randomapmod, and their dependencies. These alone essentially make the game limitlessly playable. Once you start to get familiar with playing rando, you can try out Bingo and playing with other people and such. It's very fun.

Test of Teamwork (ToT): This adds a new section of White Palace, that is more challenging than PoP, and adds new mechanics, while still feeling pretty vanilla.

Hollow Point or Lightbringer: these are game-changing mods, for if you want to play through the Hollownest that you know, while having a very different feel to the gameplay. They are both interesting, but the game no longer feels very "Hollow knight"y with them, imo

Greetings guys! I'm here with a question about the "Enemy Randomizer" modification. Please tell me if it is possible to update the spawns of mobs in an existing save? Let's say I clicked "randomize enemies" in the game menu, start a new game, new random enemies appeared in the game world, but what if I want to randomize again? There are options? Because if I press randomization in the menu again, nothing will change, maybe there is a workaround?

So that save will always have the same enemy's
It's a pity, it would be very cool to change opponents whenever you want, so that after each restart you can run through the locations with interest.

It is written that the chaos mode makes everything random in general, not only enemies, but everything in general, objects, animations, locations, and so on.
when it comes to hollow knight mods in general, antivirus' generally see them as a virus because they have to "burrow" into steam in order to use the mods. (My antivirus always kills off the mod installer whenever I download it or use it.) I don't know about nucleus in particular unfortunately, never have used it.
I wonder how many people say their antivirus is triggered when it's really just chrome asking if you're sure you want to download the file. Nucleus is probably fine, it's a well-known and used program that is open source (implying open audit of code).

it might be that only having the knight folder + renaming it broke it? i know i have it working with the whole folder (including cutscene anims etc)

WHY is the internal name for the oblobbles Mega Fat Bee?
Make sure the sprites folder is names sprites with no spaces (that's what broke it for me), assuming you haven't moved folder contents around it should work, I may try reinstalling sprite packer and make it extract the zip to somewhere outside downloads
Sometimes things just need to be outside the downloads folder to work

someone else had a similar issue, moving the folder out and back in seemed to help them
is the new multiplayer mod for public use, or is it private for fire and his team only?
@stone vale It's in the correct place, I know that for sure. When I remove the folder, the app offers to open, but tells me that I need a "sprites" folder. When I put it back into "team cherry," then try to open the app, it show a loading symbol on my mouse for a split second then never opens.
I've checked task manager to be sure and it is just refusing to live.
What is it supposed to be called? The "sprites" folder?
i remember i checked the ModInstaller recently and it wasn't there
HKMP is public, it's just not currently on the Mod Installer. I think the dev is waiting on a release that he feels is very stable, and will be a main version for awhile.

and realized just now it probably needed that other file it was living with to actually run

once u save ur new frames in the Hollow Knight -> sprites -> (...) they should replace the original frames in spritepacker

oh yeah i agree. there's probably an easy way to color the cloak that doesnt involve layer modes (there might?? be a file someone put up that lets u easily do that), but i had to mess around with divide layers to get that orange OTL

i'm so confused, i have an atlases folder in mine and it works

select ur atlas (probably Knight in your case)
press check. this'll check if any frames that should be identical aren't (eg. a lot of the idle frames are used in other animations)

by clicking on 135-04-000.png or 001-03-000.png you can preview what those are
select the one you want to keep, and click replace

why do you think that hollow knight kaizo levels cant be sophisticated as celestes or marios? is it because knight is too mobile or is it because game doesnt contain enough objects for more interesting level design or maybe the way camera works?

they're framerate dependent and depending on your pc can get dropped all the time
buffers also vary for different combos of actions, and lots of buffers just got changed between patch 1221 and 1432 
but generally hk isn't precise enough really, even impossible any% runners lose loads of time just to the game being jank and deciding to give them wallcling storage for no reason

I'm trying to do a custom knight skin as well, but I'm a newbie at Krita and I really don't understand how I work around the sprite workflow. I tried to watch Bob Fred's video but I didn't understand nothing, not even in low velocity. Any tips would be welcome lol

first step- open
you'll find the animation you wanna do, click one, hit ctrl+A to select all
then open all of them
you'll have a buncha files along the top and that's what we want
||Fwiw, If you're on Win10, WindowsKey + Shift + S uses the screenshot tool, and you can click the lil' popup to draw on it (if you want to point out something in a shot)||
second step- if you dont have them out already, animation and timeline windows can be found here

sometimes having so many files makes them get hidden behind your dockers, but if you hit a file at the top and scroll your mouse around, that fixes it

what I do is find the file that will be my first from of animation and set up my layers there
Alright
you can get the group layer from the arrow next to the + box
then you can add a layer to it by dragging it up slightly into the group
now you want to set up your key frames
right click your first box, then what I do is select "insert multiple keyframes" and input however many frames are in this animation
so if you have frame 0,1,2,3,4,5, you will put it as "5" keyframes
(even tho there's technically 6 including 0, we ignore that)
Oh I see Tbh I didn't even knew about the group layer thing
I watched that video so many times and managed to spot it by chance

so now your dude will only be on layer zero
or I mean frame 0
now we go to the next file on the right of the one we're on
so this is my next frame
you right click on the uh
I right click on the colored box and you want to hit copy layer
then after that, delete this file so you don't accidentally come back to it
and head back to your main work file
look at your timeline, have your mouse clicked or hovering in there
hit ctrl+v to paste
now you'll have this mess, and a new layer called background probably
right click on a frame of "background," and hit insert keyframe right
you'll see it become a blue box there
hold down alt, then grab the box and drag it down to the second frame of your bottom/knight layer
you can hold your mouse over the timeline and scroll to see the frames
basically rinse and repeat this until you have all your frames
you can add more or delete by right clicking

oh and also before you go
to delete the "background" layers once they're empty/useless, just select that layer on the timeline, and hit shift+delete
only hitting delete will delete only the frame you have selected

@dusty vortex @flat bluff dunno if you've seen it but Italy's Krita plugin in the pins is exactly for making the process of setting up your file less tedious; you can open an animation all at once and it'll give you all the frames in a timeline with a blank layer for drawin

Was thinking of doing a "Void Knight"-like skin since there wasn't anything else other than the Knight.png in LichOne's, and I'm not sure if Onigiri from TWP is still available. So, for personal use, a complete Void Knight... though the name probably won't be that.
I'm still only half-done with the Dash... 
Though, since I'm doing the sprites on Paint Tool SAI and it's only an almost purely-black skin, using the "Clipping Group" option makes it really easy
Seeing cancel's skin makes me feel unoriginal though 
don't feel bad the dash looks great 
Also very few venture to create their own version of the knight
I don't think it's been mentioned here anywhere that I've seen, but yesterday HKMP (The Multiplayer Mod that's being actively worked on) released an update that supports CustomKnight-style skins, which I know has been a major request of any of the Multiplayer mods for a long time lol
Currently it only supports knight.png and sprint.png, but it sounds like the full skins might be supported in a future update.

i put the modified GODump in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hollow Knight\hollow_knight_Data\Managed\Mods
probably remove the (2) from your file's name
and select SpriteLoader.zip
(specifically choose the zip file. dont unzip it. wack)
It isn't letting me remove the 2, it's saying I have the same file somewhere else

you'll probably want to read this so you can get your modified sprite files. modified godump uses same controls as the og godump linked above

that means you have it downloaded. you should be able to use the original godump's controls to get your modified sprites
controls are the same as listed here. read usage in particular
