I started finding uses for them as the game goes on. The great slash worked really well against them big guys with the hard masks, in the spider area. The spinning slash is constantly helpful against low level enemies in hoards (think the grasshoppers at kingdoms edge), and... I'm pretty sure I've used the samurai slash a few times. Most of the time its not helpful, but sometimes it has been so I keep trying.
