Respawning and boss arenas are basic concepts that support the gameplay so not explaining them is fine, but a boss rush mode is optional but it directly changes the gameplay (and story) so having a lore explanation can be crucial to it not feeling "video gamey"

if memory serves, technically sleeping does take you to the dream world but in the same way you might not realize you're dreaming as it happens you're not really able to explore it the way the knight is able to with the dream nail
