i mean a lot of old games have stuff thats either been copied or iterated upon as the years passes by so it often makes it difficult to get back to

like ive seen people say what makes this game or that game special (for example half life 2) when theres other games thats already done something similar or even better

but they dont really see is that back then those mechanics those old games were relatively new which ended up being iterated and influenced to newer games

HL2 were one of the first games that introduced physics based stuff that popularized (not saying it was the first game to ever used physics) and it was novel for its time, nowadays physics are seen as a standard thing in video games
