it's not available on 1.2.2.1 yes and because it only works with vengeful spirit, it doesn't really change that many categories - mostly just eccentric stuff like low% true ending and all stag stations. The one major category it changes (so far at least) is current patch true ending, where the abyss shriek route is now optimally at least half a minute faster (because you can skip right side palace). Oh and white palace ILs too

the main things that are patched compared to 1221 are inventory drops (basically frame perfect on current patch) and hitting levers thru walls or floors. There are some other small differences as well, and some differences in the rulesets (for example wallcling storage is banned on current patch but allowed in some circumstances on 1221)

Any% is definitely not the only cat to run (for example I find any% nmg not fun at all). For beginners there is 4 mask shards category, with itemless brooding mawlek being a hard fight. If you want to look at longer cats, there is All Skills (2 hours long for beginners, maybe more). It has easier boss fights, its much more movement orientated. Also good thing to do as beginner is join speedrunning discord, link to which is pinned in this channel. People there are really friendly and can help with a lot of things. (Also there are glitched categories, if you want to get power some may consider unnatural)

You can look at the rules of the route you want to run on Speedrun.com and see what's required, I'm pretty sure all of them require you to at least have a video of the speedrun with viewable quality, game audio that can be heard clearly at all times, and usually seeing the menu at the start of the run to show that you don't have any mods

a run without a timer onscreen is verifiable, but timer is required in video submission if using loadless time. any timerless runs will be timed realtime instead (console runs do not require any timer as theyre realtime anyways but timer is nice to have for verifying)

So I decided to try out any% nmg speedrunning without looking at any guides and ended with a time of 1:47:38 on the third run. Was pretty fun! Though today looking at guides I realized I got a few unnecessary upgrades (Desolate Dive, Tear, Wings).
Just went by optimal routing and it actually took longer because of watcher knights haha (had relied on desolate dive previously)

so, i'm playing on 1.2.2.1 and i want to cap the frame rate to 75 without turning on vsync, if i remove the vsync the fans on my gpu will start to do a lot of noise. i found that if you go on the hollow knight folder in the steamapps folder there is a Config.ini file that contains the line to cap the frame rate, but when i open it this pops up... the file just ends there, what do i have to do to "unlock" it? none of the skips in 112% are too hard, dark jonis is easily skippable, stagnest is very easy, isma's skips are probably the hardest and you'll have to learn the left side spike tunnel for that one, but other than that the category doesn't have a ton of skips
oh there's also crystal peak dark room but that one isn't too bad with cdash there's some baby strats

Hello guys, I was wondering if it is possible to skip through shade gates without shade cloak. There are many ways to not bounce backwards when touching Shade Gates (map, Crystal Heart, Cyclone Slash, Dreamgate, etc). I'm not very familiar with how Hollow Knight is coded, but would it be possible to skip through the collision of a Gate entirely if I got enough momentum towards the gate when I am "inside" it? Or is HK's collision system more robust than that?\

Would it be possible to get hit and therefore stunned, be hit again while still stunned, and take two knockback distances all while stunned? theres a lot of things that could be causing this: cdash input too early, cdash input too late, dash too high, etc. a good way to practice is to just dash into a wall (e.g. next to the bench in archives) and try to press cdash so you get a cdash but don't slide down the wall at all, just to get the timing down
do you have a video with some sort of input display? that would be very helpful for helping see what's going wrong

iirc it's very slightly different on how many times you can try it between 1.4 and 1.5, and entirely impossible on 1.2
but it should work on ps4, which is on 1.4.3.x

If you're after a full game run (ie. beat the game) any% and All Skills are both good starting categories. If you don't mind something a bit more memey then 4 Mask Shards or Myla% are both fairly short and not too dificult

If by "good chain" you mean "double hit" it would be after he does three jumping mace attacks (before you've knocked him down once, if you already did then there's a chance he'll just jump randomly)

You could cheese him with C-dash damage only if you really wanted to
Just remember he'll never do the same attack more than three times in a row and that when he randomly jumps after you've knocked him down once it doesn't mess with the counting (i.e If he did a grounded slam three times and then did a raw jump, he could only do his jumping mace attack)
I could go into much more detail but most of it you probably already know/can learn it easily enough

4 ddarks and a few nail hits knock him, after that you can just stand at the side of the screen while he goes crazy and re-knock him with shade fireballs

Is there a notable difference between current patch and 1.4.3.2 in terms of speed running strats for any%, or is it labeled 1.4.3.2+ bc the game was on patch 1.4.3.2 for such a long time and it wouldnāt make sense to obsolete so many runs?

The only real differences are
1432 can inventory drop out of dash
1432 can inventory hardfall cancel
1578 can squeeze between some elevators and the wall
1432 doesn't have WK backrolls
Uhm, I think epogo is very slightly different, not sure though
All this doesn't even add up to a notable difference for the run anyway
