I was trying to downpatch to 1.2.2.1 early today. I followed along with the Verulean video that is linked in the guide on speedrunning.com. When setting it up everything looked like it was done correctly but when I click on the hollow_knight.exe application in file explorer it simply starts up the current patch. Any idea what I did wrong? Here is a photo of that helps.

i found out something recently

idk if this will prove to be helpful in a speedrun

but if you're clinged to a wall and want to go down quickly and remain clinged then you can press the button opposite to which you're holding. Eg, if youre clinged at the left side... press the right button and vice-versa

hi - im wondering if im wrong in saying that, in TASes, you can equip carefree melody and because RNG is manipulated, you would never get hit? so, for like p5, this might be a good strat? might lose some time because game freezes for a couple of frames (iirc) when it triggers, but it must save time in some places

even if you get hit in the direction you want to go, you lose time. damage boosting to save time does not work in HK. Also, the first hit after a carefree melody proc has a 0% chance to protect you. so, you cannot be protected two hits in a row anyways

My livesplit glitched out somehow and only the main timer was running, and there’s a random 0 cutting off part of the milliseconds for some reason, will this still be accepted??

splits also are only for personal use

1. You need to set up another column for your splits to show the delta or change your column to not just be current comparison 2) livesplit must've been split between two monitors or covered by a program

I've been using screamskips in pantheons and they are so nice, just straight up free hits, especially on Dung Defender and White defender.

I'm not sure if this is known but if you charge and use a dash attack towards one of those Black gates the attack + animation doesn't go off, but there is a loud noise (when done properly).

Anyways, after the setup, a dash attack is queued and next complete dash you do, the attack and animation happen

If you are:

Download LiveSplit.
Move it so that it is not in your downloads folder. (desktop would be good)
Open LiveSplit
Right click and click "edit splits"
Search for hollow knight in the game box
click hollow knight in the drop down (don't just type it in)
The autosplit section should update in a moment, click "activate" if it is not.
Click okay/apply.
Right click LiveSplit
Compare against
Game time

You can use the guide on speedrun.com to find out how to change the layout, add splits etc.

To everyone having issues with Livesplit on 1.5: since the new update (1.5.72) dropped out of nowhere onto the main branch, Livesplit hasn't been updated yet to be compatible with it (only compatible up to 1.5.68 as of right now), which is what's giving everyone running it the same problem. Best thing to do is either wait until Livesplit gets fixed or play on prior patches. Make sure to disable automatic updates just in case they patch the game again

Hello, so i've been meaning to start speedrunning hollow knight and i thought any% nmg would be a good start, so i looked up guides to downpatch to 1.2.2.1 and i followed the steps on the speedrun.com guide, i made sure to put the steam appid in, but after i did all of that, when i ran the application, it just opened the 1.5 steam version of the hollow knight

any ideas on how i can get it to work?

i even tried deleting the original hollow knight file on steamapps common and then ran the app again but that just reinstalled the 1.5 version

Your txt file is probably incorrect somehow

Firstly: Check the number is definitely correct, and that there's no spaces or line breaks after it.
Secondly: Check the name is fully correct. Remove the ".txt" from the end of it if that is showing and try it again.

You can't pogo the explosion anymore, but there's techniques to pogo the spore instead. WCS works but not quite the same; for example, if you dash into a gate as it opens to get wcs, you don't preserve the momentum from the dash

try making a checklist of the things you need to get for about 101% and check them off as you go. that's what i did and i got it in about 15h. also you can save a lot of time by pausing the game when you aren't moving becasue it won't count towards the in game timer

I used it to make a checklist of the things I needed to get, the route sort of formed itself by going through the list so I didn't bother righting it down, sorry. another thing I found helpful was righting down the prices for items so I always knew how much geo I'd need to collect. Honestly you probably have all the game knowledge you need already since you have the other speed achievements. 20h is way more then necessary

(assuming you're on Windows) run the exe and a cmd window will appear. bind ingame actions on mouse1 to (I forgot what the keys are help)). to stop running the program, close the cmd window

I've found an easily reproducible glitch that landing during Cyclone Slash doesn't reset Monarch Wings, but I haven't found this documented anywhere. Found on 1.4.3.2 on Nintendo Switch.

You cannot have any mods on for any main categories. There is a category of speedruns explicitly called "modded" which allow mods, but they are categories that can only be run with mods.

Also sometimes you may have seen people run with a mod on, but that would not be a valid run in the end, and the person likely knows that.

You can then watch a few runs from the leaderboard to get an idea if the different ways people record their runs.

Hi i am trying to practice speed running and have downpatched hollow knight to 1.2.2.1. I am getting a very weird bug where On first load of the downpatched game, I try to do the escape and inventory drop for king's pass. However, when i delete the file and create a new one to restart the run, it will stop receiving my attack/mouse input when i do the inventory drop in king's pass
