Hi guys! I started playing Hollow Knight a few months ago and I really want to speedrun it (I don't want to go for an hour or even less, under 10 hours would be more than enough). I prepared the timer using LiveSplit, I watched some speedruns and stuff like that, there's only one thing: my pc is soooooo fucking slow. Also i probably won't be able to use OBS because my 8 year old pc would explode. So, I have two questions: first, are there any recording programs that don't require a God-Tier pc? Second, are there any mods or anything I can do to make Hollow Knight go faster? (Of course if these mods aren't allowed in speedruns I'm not going to use them)

It's a thing that prevent a rare display bug that could happen if your monitor has a good refresh rate but you don't have enough Fps. If you have like 15 fps and a good monitor it could make the game display weird for like one or two frames, but I find it playable without.
It synchronise the framerate and the refresh rate of your monitor

well the reason it's not a problem on controllers is that the analog stick or dpad are each just one complete piece
so it's physically impossible to hold opposite directions
only on some uncommon 3rd-party controllers will you find separate buttons for the dpad

ps4 runs current patch and 60fps, so current patch resources are what you want
60fps also means you can use vsync explosion pogo without changing any settings, so you are all good there
i recommend you run any%, as it will be the most cohesive and easiest to learn on current patch
if you go to speedrun.com you can find lots of great resources
as for some differences for running console:
- you dont have access to livesplit which is the timer pc runners use. however your times will be compared other ps4 runners so you're all good there. in addition, timing starts on file select
- for recording, you can record your tv with your phone, no need for a capture card, as long as game audio is there and you can see the gameplay
- console doesnt have access to as many practice tools, but i'd look into learning how to backup saves to the cloud so you can use them for practice

I can't speak for fury strats but in 112 I've found that incorporating a lot more shrieks is helpful
you can go for doubles with shade soul and get three nail slashes in on each sweep attack
but I find shriek after nail hits to be better. If you need more nail swings because fury strats I'm not sure

I recently downpatched to 1221, and steam is having trouble recognizing my switch controller. it can read my directional inputs from the controller, but is forcing me to use the keyboard to do actions (jump, slash, etc.) has anyone else run into this problem?

switch pro controller isn't natively supported on patches before godhome; if you want to play the game on an earlier patch you need to use a program like joy2key to bind your switch controls to keyboard inputs

it depends on the drop, but for 90% of inventory drops in the game, you're only going low so you can move left or right later, so you want to be moving as fast as possible
you want to close your inventory as early as possible while still avoiding hardfall to gain horizontal movement in time

Guys probably I figured out what was the problem with my pc being fucking snail speed: it probably was my processor overheating. I use a laptop and an SSD so almost all the work my pc does goes to the processor, which isn't that powerful and doesn't have a proper dissipator or not even a dissipator in the first place. Now I'm just letting it cool down and see what happens next!

Yo does anyone have tips for QG skip?
qga is one of the hardest skips in any%, you want the tip of our eye to be touching the tip of the acid. you can turn on invincibility to practice on the actual qga wall without dunking in acid (if you have ismas, it will not work). Practice starting your cheart without sliding down the wall at all, and practice jumping off the wall. I personally use sound cues from the end of my dash. Overall you'll find that lower on the wall, and pressing the cdash button later, and pressing jump at the end later than you think will work better. Sorry for the ping, but i think the trick deserves a fair amount of explanation due to its difficulty. Practice not sliding down with invincibility, and then once you are no longer sliding, just practice the trick normally.

man i feel like it's just me but intentionally damage tanking causes me so much anxiety
bc it reduces my room for error and then i panic and heal and waste a bunch of time trying to play it safe

damage tanking becomes more comfortable with practice, and for cpeak theres a damageless fast cycle for every room
in all skills, i recommend not tanking in cpeak so you can damage tank in mound
also makes dark room comfier
cpeak should just be one of your most practiced areas since everythings cycle based you benefit a lot from practice there
