just highlighting things with the laser pointer isn't always enough.

people probably will get better over time but yeah, communcation is key and since we are always in a party chat, randoms don't hear us chatting

People will 100% get better. There's a language you learn after playing for a bit. You can practically have full convos with only pings and salutes if you're playing with folks who have some experience. It just takes a little time

Yeaaahhh just had an incident with a bulk detonator. I was trying to type as fast as I could to the randoms to drag it away from the event but it ended up blowing up half of the floor where the event was 💀

When I and my friends are in that situation (there are two or three of us in a party chat and we play with randoms) we often switch chat channels since it is easy to do on the PS4/PS5 (just long press respectively double press the PS button and swap which chat you are in).

It's not perfect all the time, but the pings and salutes go a long way if folks are paying attention and participating in the team

I feel like this game has no issues at all when I'm playing with friends but when I try to join a rando room is when I start having connection errors

There are definitely some outstanding connections issues the devs are investigating. Some folks have had quite the opposite experience you've had, where random games are okay, but friends are not, and not for not trying. It's interesting to see how differently the issues manifest for different folks. I'm sure it'll get sorted out

Quick question, do pc, Xbox and ps get updates at the same time? Just wondering how relevant the patch notes would be for someone that only plays on ps

Since this is new territory, I can't say for certain, but Xbox tends to get the same update as the Steam version about 2 weeks after it comes to the Steam version. I assume this will continue, and that the PlayStation version will come out around the same time as the Xbox version.
The devs have mostly released the updates more or less as soon as they're ready. They get Steam out first, because they can patch as quickly and as often as they need to there, as opposed to on consoles where the platform makers want some certifications and control. Once Steam seems patched up and stable, they roll the patches into one update for Xbox (and presumably do the same for PlayStation now as well). The patch notes are posted when the Steam version comes out, and for the most part also pertain to the Xbox version when that comes out.
That said, this is new territory, so things may be a little different now, and we'll learn together!

Today I tried again with the router settings, but then got another idea. As I wrote earlier my PS5 couldn't determine the NAT type while the PS4 could. Now I unplugged the PS4 completely from the network (previously it had just been shut off, not resting/power save but in powered off mode). Suddenly my PS5 immediately determined the NAT type and when I went into the game I could join others (got to the lobby/choosing character screen but didn't enter the game itself since I can't play right now, just testing while doing chores).

Well, those problems might actually be network related. If everyone is sitting behind a firewall (and nowadays most might be) it can tricky to find out which firewall is blocking what. You normally don't have that level of logging on consumer firewalls and even if you did, how many are experienced enough to read those logs and understand what packets are being dropped.

If packets are being lost, then joining and inviting will be troublesome.

I am not sure how much Sony and PSN is involved in the in-game joining. As for invites between friends, absolutely, since invites is a PSN thing. That is on them (Sony). But so far I have only tried to join random games and never succeeded on the PS5 until now. Only the devs can say how much PSN is involved in that part.

I would like to just chime in for a second - We are fairly convinced that the "network" issue is a bunch of issues, that all get lumped in together, since they cant be distinguished very easily.

Some are caused by poor timing, eg. you try to join just as the game become unjoinable
Some are caused by using 5ghz, some are caused by having a network setup that does not work with Peer to peer games, and some adjustments need to be made on your internet setup
Some are caused by bugs on our end that we are looking at to fix
some are caused by bugs we dont know about yet

All this to say, if you are able, try to see if there are actually things you can do to fix the issue on your end, as no matter what we do, it will still need the fix on your end, if that is actually the issue. The issues that are caused by bugs from us, we will of course try to fix as quickly as we can. The more info we get from you, the easier it is for us to fix. Additionally we are looking to improving the error messages, so it actually says what goes wrong

There are some things you can try if you are experiencing connecting issues:

Close the game
Restart PS
Do a network check and make sure Nat type is 2
Restart router
Make sure you don't have other consoles plugged in on the same network
Play with Ethernet not wifi
Make sure to not let the PS go in to sleep mode while the game is running
Unblock ps profiles you might have blocked
Purge your friends list to like 20
Make sure that system clock is set after internet and is set to automatic not manual
Make sure you have the right time zone.

some of this works for some, for others this won't fix it.
what seems like one issue, can be caused my many things - some of them bugs

I'd have to load up the check for sure, but I'm pretty sure that's the normal behavior. I don't believe you'll see the badge on your name in the space rig, but other people will see yours and you will see theirs

There have been a few mentions of the game loading up a fresh save after the update came out earlier today, but yeah, a reboot of the console seemed to get the correct save data back. I suspect it has both a local and a cloud save, like the other versions

I also can't play together with my son (5 friends in the list). We are on the same network. Yesterday I tried to join some open games from Germany. Out of 8 attempts it worked 1x.

We’re seeing very inconsistent happenings of this. It’s really weird, so we’ve added some extra log codes to the error messages so we can figure out what process breaks it. It’s a lot to ask, but if you (or anyone else for that matter) can record a video of the process from starting the machine from fresh to the point of failure when this happens, it could help us track it down, so we can reproduce and fix it. Personally, I’ve seen reports of this happening between machines on home networks, on people close to each other, and oddly enough some have had success connecting to people further away, or even through a mobile hotspots. Those aren’t solutions at all, but small pieces of a bigger puzzle. 😅

We can't connect to each other, before the new error codes we got different errors. Now it is just Connection Lost - Lost Connection to Server with a CL in the bottom right fo the screen.
He's on PS4 I am on PS5.
Both on Nat Type 2
What we've tried:
-restart console
-restart game
-restart router
-invite through context menu ingame
-invite through psn
-join through psn
-join through server browser
-join through mission select/join/password protected games
-join lobby
-join game in progress
-slimmed down friends list from 114 entries down to 8, cleared friend requests and blocked players, left 90% of old parties and repeated most of the join and restart steps
-checked time sync
-installed ps4 version on my ps5 and tried using that with all of the join variations

Still the same error across the board.
Both of us are able to join some public games, but not all of them, never together though so far.

Xbox/Windows crossplay is possible due to the way Microsoft set it up. They’ve chosen to have the Xbox platform be part of Windows, so there’s less friction here.
Getting those versions to talk to PlayStation is harder and would most likely require a dedicated server setup to handle it. The Steam version is also a bit different with the possibility of slightly larger cave gen, as it doesn’t have to go on console.
The Steam version also lets us launch experimental updates and make a bunch of fixes, before we go on console, which has a lot more restrictions. Having crossplay across all the platforms would require us to be less flexible, since we have to make sure all versions are free of bugs as we’d have to launch them at the same time. That could easily add a month or so to each update - more if there’s bug issues in just one of them.
We’re not ruling out the possibility in the future, though.

Driller is good for crowd control with every weapon but the cryo cannon is the way to go for damaging almost any large enemies aside from dreadnoughts and detonators. If you have a gunner as a teammate as well, you can shit on pretty much any enemy that can be frozen.

sometimes it feels cheap to latejoin a mission and barely do nothing and still get full completion rewards. on the other hand as a gunner main I sometimes latejoin (30min+) a pointextract or egghunt with only 1-2 scout/engineer and find them overwhelmed by enemies and struggling to get the last objective node and I feel like a hero saviour helping them finish the mission and getting them out alive

I use KBM on Xbox and i highly recommend it for players who wanna push the limits of what can be done in this game. I do like playing with a controller because its chill but with KBM esp in this game you can do much higher skill plays than with a controller

for the scout especially its a huge change. but im not saying that you SHOULD do it, but if you wanna push your limits i'd def recommend giving it a try

Managed to get the drop port barrels to work on partners account by backing up her save and starting a new save from scratch, skipped the torturial then did the barrels and popped 1st time,

I think there's an issue with some of the trophies locking to host and then if requirements are met its hard locking that save data from completing it 🤔
The one for completing the first assignment ( she's on her 2/3rd ) and ride molly for 15 secs also seem glitched 🤔

that is the grim reaper himself, the OMEN exterminator tower.
its one of the special machine events (not rival tech) that can randomly spawn in a mission, you need a promoted dwarf on the team to activate machine events
completing a machine event gives extra xp and once you are promoted and have blank matrix cores you can also get weapon Overclocks from them

its good to check up on DRG wiki about the Omen fight, its the hardest of the machine events and wrecks even experienced teams

the rival tech events are either the Prospector (flying chill drone, which will bring rival robots to defend it if you attack it) or the Data Deposit Hacking event (in which you have to defend a Hacking pod a bit similiar like in Salvage operations)
rival tech events can be done without being promoted and they drop a Data cell which has to be deposited, gives much Season XP and also regular XP ^^
