but its sorta works like that in homestuck, except certain items need different types of grist. which are items that drop from killing mobs
also, rather than an emc value, its a captcha code for each item, so you need to digitize the items and find their code, then create a punch card and use grist along with a totem lathe to make duplicates of the item
that alone has a really interesting mechanic that tbh would work well in minecraft i feel

yeah there's alot of weird stuff in homestuck
every item has a captcha code, you can combine items's captchacards and punch them on top of others to basically create new items and stuff too
example
this item weirdly was combined with oil shale, so it ended up oily so its code was slightly altered
additionally you dont need the cards so long as you had the grist, and knew the codes
oh so thats ProjectE ok cool
anyways, in a modded system having that along with a compatability thing letting you hook it up to something like a crafting system and inventory could be cool, esp if you were able to just convert items into cards and store them into a database
the horrible part is atleast in homestuck, inventories dont exist, instead you have captchalogs, which are basically these cards, but they have the ability to suck up whatever item you're trying to capture into one of the cards (hence a captcha card) each modus has its own storage method, best ones are queue decks
minestuck is a mod already but i've played it some and it just doesn't work well. never started the game or entered the medium though
