Duolingo is a decent resource to start with if you're a complete beginner, but it's neither efficient nor comprehensive!

What Duolingo will teach you about grammar is very limited, and none of the systems they use will help you practise much of it.

Hello everybody 🙂

I'm well aware that studying a language implies studying: grammar, vocab, reading and speaking. But not as a full-time german student, and studying around 10h/week german, for personal motivation and as a way of kinda measuring progress i've been focusing mostly in Grammar.

What I've also found out is that, by not putting much effort in vocab I often tend to confuse terms while reading.
For instance: schenken- to give something with schicken - to send.

**And I believe that at the end, not focusing so much in vocab might be compromising my progression. What are your insights? Can someone relate?
Any special advice in learning vocab? Aside from Anki, quizlet, and learning them under a special context/topic?

Reading more books or stories would be my first suggestion. You could also watch more German media (tv shows, movies, video games, news are very helpful) with German subtitles if time is an issue.
Don't stress about it too much, or it will burn out your drive. You'll learn more things as you go ^^

"Ich habe gestern Deutsch gelernt" = I learned German yesterday
but "I learned German not yet yesterday" doesn't really make sense, only "I had not yet learned German yesterday" which is "Ich hatte gestern noch kein (oder "nicht") Deutsch gelernt"

Because "not yet" describes a current state, and something cannot be "not yet" if it has happened in the past, so you must use a tense like "I had learned"

I don't care to remember the names of tenses. What I have referred to as "had done/learned" etc. is plusquamperfekt (speaking of the past from a past perspective) as far as I recall. Then "have done/learned" (speaking of the past from the current perspective) is perfekt, I believe
