I was studying to land the A2 by taking the A2-B1 exam, then realizing the exam I booked was only B1, not A2-B1 almost 2 week before the exam. I was scared as *** but eventually I managed to learn enough to pass the exam. I believe I have nailed it, everything went smooth, pretty soon I will get my results. Hope i'm not jynxing it.

What I'm trying to say, passing the B1 exam is not the same as knowing B1, if it makes sense. 😆

Ich habe meine Prüfung bestanden. Ich weiße nicht, was ich dir Empfehlungen sollen. Meine Deutsch ist schlecht, aber ich habe B1 , Technically at least haha.

My result was 229,0 / 300, just low. but barely enough to be B1. You would need 180/300 to pass

The only thing that came to my surprise, it's that there's no only one type of B1 Prüfung

Someone told me to take it because "it was easy", you only need B1 in Oral and the rest A2, but this exam wasn't like that, was only B1

For them Oral was:

• Introduce yourself
• Describe a picture
• Plan something

For me was a bit "hard"

• Introduce yourself (same bit a bit of a twist talking about your learning)
• Talk about a topic, A vs B
• Plan something

talk about a topic threw me off, I wasn't even expecting that until a week or so before the exam

my vocab is not rich, and that day was technically the first day I spoke german

but in general, just study the exam format, is the same thing just the text is different obviously, so just practice same format with different topics

I can't thank this discord enough, now onto the journey of actually speak, listen, read and write like a B1

the grammar is not that difficult compared to a lot of european languages, just the tonal pronunciaton system and the writing system

i think the initial learning curve (when you have zero knowledge) of chinese is probably way steeper than German

when you're learning Chinese for the first time it will take you a few months before you even start learning the characters

which is really a dealbreaker for a lot of people, when you have spent months learning it and literally can't read anything

The writing would be ok (I can deal with the kanjis in Japanese). But the tonal system seems to be a pain.

i don't find it too bad because there are slight similarities with Indonesian

but my British friends (which were plentiful in my uni) were really struggling even at very early levels
