Heute Morgen Ich habe mir gesagt, ich brauche wie den weg beschreiben lernen. I spend about an hour in the subject. I was happy about it, then and hour later someone was asking me for directions, and I was blocked, and it was hard to explain what I wanted to say.

as in 'I ran' or 'I have run' (or the progressive forms, since in German we don't have progressive).

Following has (English in brackets)
You use wurde for passive voice Präteritum (simple past) with

Partizip II (past participle)
for becoming 'adjectives'
for becoming 'nouns'
(Disclaimer: You need none of these right now and they don't really make sense for running just as they wouldn't make sense for 'to run')

the passive thing:
Mir wurde ein Buch gegeben
(I was given a book)

Noun:
Ich wurde eine Banane
(I became a banana)

Adjective:
Ich wurde groß
(I became tall)

Hallo Leute! Ich habe eine Umfrage für euch. Sie behandelt seelische Ansichten und Gedanken von Leute die Sprache mit Genera (sg. Genus) sprechen. Ich will sehen, ob eine Ansicht mit die Genera in den Sprache ohne Genera gibt. Zum Beispiel, will ich sehen ob jemand Substantiven mit maskulin oder feminin Genera wie maskulin oder feminin, die auf Stereotypen von "häufig" Geschlechterrolle basiert, sieht. Wenn möglich, will ich Muttersprachleren/innen von Deutsch und Spanisch meine Umfrage schreiben. Die Umfrage braucht nur 10-15 Minuten und sie schreiben nur zwei oder drei Adjektiven pro Wort. Schickt mir einen DM wenn ihr an die Umfrage teilnehmen wolltet. Diese Umfrage wurde anehmigt von die Mods. Und Entschuldigun für meine Fehler. Danke!

Yeah, it's supposed to be similar to that, but that specifically used the native language of the people, plus it was, in my opinion, very opinionated in saying that masculine nouns were considered more potent than feminine nouns, which not to get into politics, but that seems a bit wrong to me

I was also forced to say what I was doing so that I would not have had to do uninformed consent paperwork, which would have "put people at risk" and would have been nearly impossible to get approved

Because the very specific scenario I'm talking about is learners who grew up exclusively using US style keyboard and then when they start learning German, they get confused about how to use German characters and think the "best" way is relearning their entire keyboard from US to German.

And my comments about this are always simply to let learners know that this is not the simplest or best way for most learners.

all i had to relearn, as someone who doesn't look at the keyboard while writing and would like to maintain an average wpm, was the y and z switch, the Umlaute and the @ symbol. Was fairly easy I'd say, not too drastic a change. It might help to add that I have a German keyboard too, like i bought it from germany so it has that layout to begin with.

Being able to type German letters is quite important!

Schon = already. Schön = beautiful.
Mutter = mother. Mütter = mothers.

How to? There are several options.
🔸 US International layout: if you're using a US keyboard or a keyboard based on it, the transition is very easy! Everything stays as you know it, except for some symbol keys like ~, ` or ", which can be pressed to add accents. For example " + a = ä. You can also do RightAlt + s = ß.
To use US International on Windows, look for the Region & Language options and switch your selected keyboard layout to US International.
🔸 Use a program like AutoHotkey to automatically type the symbols you need when you type certain shortcuts: https://www.autohotkey.com/
🔸 Alternatively, you can memorise the altcodes for German characters. Learning them is easier than you might think! Simply hold Alt and type the numbers on your numpad:
ä = 132; Ä = 142
ö = 148; Ö = 153
ü = 129; Ü = 154
ß = 225
🔸 If all else fails, you can use ASCII conventions for the characters: add an e to other vowels, and write ss or sz for ß. For example:
ae = ä
oe = ö
ue = ü
ss = ß
But this is discouraged since it's harder to read and... looks ugly. It is only done in situations where alternatives are impossible (fonts with no unicode etc).

Yeah there are tons of people who start one degree only to realize they like something else.

But one piece of advice for that: if you can choose a degree with some flexibility (like lets you take some electives) it gives you an opportunity to try other things.

But that's only worth worrying about if you feel really unsure about it.
