Personally, i never brute force memorised it. When i started, i just always had it up when i was writing as a reference. Then over time i found myself checking it less and less. And now i only pull it up to double check my work

If brute force memorisation really isnt working, you could try that approach instead

In #beginner-german spreche ich normalerweise mit Menschen die A1 oder A2 sind, deshalb muss ich natürlich leichter Wörter verwenden. Ich hab das Gefühl, dass ich aufdränge, wenn ich "komplizierte" Nachrichte schicken.

Du kannst das jetzt beobachten, du hast einen ganzer Absatz geschickt, während die Leute dort nicht einmal "Woher kommst du?" richtig schreiben können.

Ich finde es unfair ihnen gegenüber, dass ich dort jeden Tag schreibe, weißt du?

Wenn ich zum Beispiel gerade Lust habe wieder an meinem Englisch zu arbeiten, dann lese ich Bücher auf Englisch, gucke Serien und Filme auch auf Englisch mit englischem Untertitel und alles was ich nicht kenne übersetzte ich mir als Vokabeln.

Poorly formatted, but that's what I'm studying at A1. I think this book assumes some basic vocabulary already, but I was able to complete its exercises despite being only ~2 months into study. I do have a vocabulary list of like ~500 memorized at this point however.

A lot of its exercises are "translate the following sentences", which uses simple words of course. But... at A1 you are starting from scratch and have no vocabulary.

Vocabulary gives you words. But grammar tells you how to use those words.

You must study them together, you cannot fully understand anything in German unless you understand its grammar.

Me specifically? I've been using the 4000 frequency Anki deck. Its erm.... probably a bad idea for A1 beginners though. I feel like I'm too deep now and might as well keep going.

A1 needs a smaller wordlist IMO, and one with fewer requirements on grammar.

Hmm, WisenUp! had an intriguing video for me (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtkmjzm4J5Y). The channel only has 2 videos right now and I'm not strong enough in German to understand everything yet.

But its good to find stuff that sounds "simpler" than like, full speed comedy / sitcoms. But still something "harder" than Peppa Pig or Kinderlieder to put into my study routine.

At the A1 level, it's hard to find anything level appropriate but still real German. But the preschool / kindergarten level songs seem to fit the bill perfectly, for me anyway
