just go into edit mode and select all then assign it to the bone if its only 1 bone
not sure why you need that method to weight something to one bone - go into weight paint mode and use "set weight"

99% its not but depends on the platform. there are some free avis/bases in usual places to sell em, then you can read their license. if its just some site with "free vrc avatars", its rips
The only sites you should be using are VRCArena, Jinxxy, Booth, and Gumroad. Assume anything else is ripped. I'm not going to try to explain the granularity of this to you because my asessment of your abilities suggests giving you a firm rule set is the only way.

You'd have to look for other errors, or errors in the build window, this one is not useful on its own.
only other error i got was warning me that an audio source i have will be disabled and this
maybe don't crop so much so we can actually see the error. And ideally, the whole console with the counters in the upper right.

It was a character with a buncha stuff added, and just (no clue how) after uploading, I saved and quit, came back, and the thing was just nowhere to be seen.

in Unity it'll have an icon like the unity symbol. In your file browser outside Unity, it'd be named something.unity

ok my last guess is if you were working in the default example scene as provided by the VRChat SDK and then upgraded the SDK, it'd wipe that out.

ok then yeah, go to the "content manager" part of the SDK, find your avatar, copy its blueprint id, go back to the scene, click the avatar root object, find the "pipeline manager" component and paste in that blueprint ID.

Does your build console say you have too many physbones and it's removing them?
If you have too many physbones on a quest avi, all of them get deleted on upload. So make sure you dont have extras

select often doesn't do more than select the avatar, it's nearly useless

in that case, what I often try is: drag and drop the avatar to somewhere in project to make a prefab. right click the prefab and click export the unitypackage except I don't actually export it. then it'll show every files (especially materials in this case) that's linked to the avatar. take a screenshot of all the material files. cancel the export and go through those material files one by one
You have to fill in all of the slots
doesn't look like that model has all the shapes you need. I believe cats blender plugin has a thing to turn those into the whole list, you might try that.

so uh, I'm working on another outfit for my avatar, but the outfit isn't the same offset from the ground (i.e. thinner shoe soles, no heels), so I'm having concerns about integrating it as part of an outfit change function I'm planning for my avatar.
How is this normally done for, let's say, going from flat shoes to heeled shoes? Or from one pair of shoes to a pair of boots with thicker soles?
In the past, I had to pop the base body off the ground in the FBX itself, not necessarily in Unity, since I didn't think about an outfit-swapping gimmick.
so when I do this i just hide the feet so it looks like i swich to heels

everything other then the BD tools (since idk what that is) thing can be added ontop of a project without causing issues usually (( having both av3 and gesture manager in the same project could be causing issues since they can sometimes conflict ))
i also should verify which packages i need, i probably am using way too many for each
everything in the pic came with the dependencies and automaticly get turned on when i add them to the project besides audio link and easy quest tools

for mochifitter, you need both forward avatar profile and backward avatar profile. For example, if your avatar is Manuka and you want to apply Moe's cloth, you need Manuka forward profile and Moe backward profile
heres the ui for it, and the avatar im using has profiles, but im not sure where to apply them so it works

The clothes that you want to be fitted has to be clothes that are supposed by those avis in the source list

yeah i think it's becoming a new standard in booth community. newer avatars come with profiles with it these days.
yeah, someojne should make a like booth list of all compatible avatars that'd be so helpful

Okay so, I have emotes with audio on my avatar, but when I go into gesture manager and play them, the animation plays just fine but the audio doesn't play at all. I think its worth mentioning that the avatar I'm using needed Unity 2019.4.31f1, so I imported it into that version with the VCC, then I upgraded it to the current version (also using VCC), so maybe something broke during the upgrading? I really dont know.

Make sure your camera is near your avatar
Well I did for this specific base. And adding avis that used old unity into new projects using new unity causes problems last time I checked

And yes, the audio listener is on the camera when you're in unity's play mode, with gesture manager
Yes, the audio is based on the game camera, not the scene camera. It also will change position when you are in play mode some times, so just double check it once your in playmode

yeah
mochirefitter lets you make profiles of avatars (or the avatar devs) so clothes that support it can fit eachother
very new tho so not that widly supported yet, i know a few that use it and mine happens to be one luckily

That size rather means amount of how many collider can collide with it. Hands already affected by default without setting this.
Hello, i have been working on triwave's proto kit in unity and so far everything works good. Although i cant set my custom animation or tweak the ones assigned by default. Specifically idle animation.
The arms are fixed straight like (pic1), still shaking a little in-game. I have tried changing proxy_idle and cloning that anim into Assets/, then assigning it to animation manager (pic2), which is assigned to the descriptor (pic3). Am i doing something wrong?

Looks like the original is using very high resolution texture, 4K which is too high for use vrchat.

You could reduce texture size further to reduce the noise, and add fabric detail texture while very high tiling.

the asset comes with a normal map and texture which i know what to do
forces everything to be a t-pose
a roughness map which i think is alpha iirc
but it also has a height map and metallic map which i don't know what to do with really
So you saw immediate changes after you click Enforce?
Then there other reason that it can't be use as humanoid rig. One of the reason is missing the leg.
Then you also have to see Import Message in the rig selection menu.

Do I have to worry about messing up blendshapes when editing a head asset to change facial features? If so is there any tutorials that could help?
You definitely want to be careful. Here's an example: The head likely has blink blendshapes. Now if you narrow the eyes on the base shape, the blink will make the eye lids go past each other/intersect. There's nothing you can do other than try and see. I suggest you make your edits onto a new blendshape first and then you can try all other shapes in combo with your edit to see if you need to work something out before finally applying it to basis, if you even wanna do that.

ok im about to go to bed but ill put this here in case anyone wants to help when im up. im trying to make the chip and guac hat from despicable me 2, i got some parts working, a grabbable chip piece from the hat that gets parrented to my hand with a parent constraint, i was able to get the contact sender to follow it. i added a receiver in the hat to make the glob of guac show up so that one works fine, but the one by my mouth to eat it wont fire and advance the animator, ive tried many combinations of fixes, like changing the receiver type to having a 2nd custom tag just for that one. all of those i have no luck, ive been goin a lil crazy so if someone could help id greatly appreciate it 🥲 🙏

I have a furry avatar where I struggle to make a thumbs up (finger isn't extending far enough) unless I use legacy fingers with valve index controllers) fingers bend into palm on non legacy mode...any clue how to fix things like that?

okay so I am stuck for now, I got all my clothes working and synced except the pants. The pants are just an fbx file and they don't seem to want to move with my legs at all and just sorta float on my avatar. Is there any way to make it so the pants will move with my legs?
im trying with modular avatar to merge animator but that doesn't seem to work
since its just an fbx, the file heiarchy is just the whole pants, not sure if that is part of the issue but thats my guess
i have a bad feeling ill need to go back to blender to like weight paint
but i think ill sleep for now as its 4 am and work more on this some other time. almost there
For a mesh to move, it NEEDS an armature.
Seeing as the asset itself doesnt come with one, you need to parent the pants to the armature of your avatar - in blender
if you are lucky, the pants have vertex groups (weights) already. if not, youll have to transfer weights from the body to the pants, which there is an easy addon for to do that
i doubt they do, as they seem to be just a model and nothing more
