Armature movement is only rotation though.

Trying to use VRC Quest Tools to make my avatar compatible, and I'm having an issue with Unity. According to the Unity Hub, I have the android stuff installed, but Unity tells me I dont and need to get it? I really dont know what could cause this/how to fix it. If anyone has had to deal with this before, or knows how to fix it, any pointers would be appreciated ^^
The imposter generated for my avatar has the crotch clipping through both the underwear and pants.
Is there a way to fix this without having to modify the actual model?
If not, will uploading a version with the body of the avatar cut out just to generate the imposter work?

Im having a small issue, whenever I move in game my arms sway, but there are no components on the avatar that would be causing it to do so, nor are there physbones on the arms that would be causing it.
have you done a copy with physbones entirely removed? I saw this same issue on someone else around 2 days ago

Optimize the avatar within the requirements. You will liekly need to do edits ott he model in blender.
I copied it from an avatar with an identical skeleton and avatar descriptor, and on that avatar, visemes do work, but they don't work on the new one. Is it possible the body mesh having a different name could be an issue? The old avatar's body mesh was body, but the new one is Body (Capitalized)

Maybe your mesh and textures have too big combined filesize
Try reducing the polycount of your mesh or lowering the resolution of your textures, and if your avatar uses any sound clips, try lowering the quality of them
Look at pinned messages and history in #avatar-optimization and #quest-optimization
you lower poly count by remodeling in a program like Blender.
Polycount barely does anything to size.
Shapekeys/blendshapes are generally what take up the most size on meshes, but textures and audio clips take up easily more.

I'm trying to build an avatar that was created on sdk 3.5.2 (as i remember)
I got a strange error one day that I can't build avatar online
Then I created a new file, updated the SDK to the latest version, imported avatar package, imported all the necessary packages, tried to upload the avatar for a test - everything worked. BUT when I try to upload an avatar online, an error appears. I even tried to remove and put a new id (blueprint) for the avatar, but it didn't help
I've heard that, but animations seem to just be .yaml files, so I'm curious why?

i even used deepseek and chatgpt to solve the problem but all it told me was "i can't have rights to edit avatar" wtf man i made it from scratch and i never had any problems before

Well, the only thing that can cause the problem, from what I see in the console, is poiyomi
probably the only way to find out the problem is to delete packages and see after what time the problem is solved
the poi warnings are warnings (yellow) and shouldn't block this.

i uploaded the avi on pc first, then went to upload the quest tried to use it, couldnt select it, now im uploading just for pc to see if it works

throw that nanaci through blender and you wont have wierdly named bones and way less materials if you click a few buttons
(can cram all of its texures into 1 - 4k) , here have a badly made atlas ( still better then 10 materials ) cause im not baking one im not using

Hello all, I'm having a very weird problem with a client's model where their avatar has turned from poor to very poor in the VRC client, even though it says it's only poor in the SDK. They need their avatar to be poor, and I saw in the patch notes where they said that they also calculate material switches now, which might downgrade some performance ranks. My question is, how in the hell am I supposed to know what to remove from the avatar for it to be poor in the VRC client.

Sorry For the random question, as I hope i’m not being annoying when I ask this. But Recently some of my favorite avatars went private. Now luckily the creator of the avatars made the files and project public for anyone to upload themselves. But I’ve been personally having trouble uploading it as when I put the project it seems some materials are missing and some other stuff doesn't seem to work after uploading.
Now the original avatar creator has been dealing with some life stuff so I understand they probably didn't have time or didn’t want to make an entire tutorial on how to upload it.
So I was wondering if someone knew how to fix something like this?

if your materials are broken, you may need to install packages (e.g. Poiyomi Toon) to get the shaders they use
the odd thing is I did do that. But for some reason it doesn't seem like anything in the menu's or idk what there called gestures don't seem to be conect so all it does is make it a basic avatar where the camera is in the middle of the characters chest?
so it appears it places everything on it for some reason as well but the weapons or uber materiel dont appear or the blu team color?
do you have a VRC Avatar Descriptor on the root avatar object?
that's just the model; the rest of the avatar has to be set up

Aight this is a doozy. So I got two objects that are pretty similar. One is a flag, one is a clipboard. On both I put a parent constraint, cuz I wanna be able to put them somewhere in the world. Both parent constraints are set up the exact same way and both have my right hand as source transform so they snap back after I disable the animation that makes them be fixed in worldspace. For some unexplainable reason one snaps back to my hand and the other one doesn't. I've checked animations, the constraints, tried doing it different toggling the other one first but nothing. Why does it not do the same thing as the other even tho they are set up exactly the same??
Find a free avatar and upload it for yourself 🙌 it's a great way to learn. Rpgslayer has a few free bases
IDK if anybody else has been having this issue but when i upload avatars to PC lately they upload fine no issues then i go to upload for quest and the whole avatars goes away and it say "security cheacks failed" dispite in unity saying it was fine? but then if i go reupload the PC version it fixes itself yet there's no quest version?

Not sure what you mean it's doing, but if you mean you put a physbone on a humanoid bone and it made your whole arm floppy well yes, that's what happens, so don't do that 🙂

Ok, I think I set it up. So I got it to work but it's still being annoying. The menu appears and such but now but everything is still there and is unaffected the mouth audio doesn't seem to be working as well. i'm still looking into what i'm doing wrong since i'm new of course.

That's my fault, Let me put more information into it, I have a bone that's connected to my Elbow as a child object, And the physbone component is on that child bone, It isn't part of the humanoid rig, But the whole Elbow, and part of the top arm seems to behave under the physbone. The left arm in the video has a Physbone on a child bone, While the right one doesn't,
I've checked for weights, Constraints and anything else that could cause issues, but nothing is wrong with the model or the rig, When the physbone is deleted however, The issue no longer happens

The left elbow and lower is more floppy upon movement, Compared to the right which uses basic VRC locomotion animations, It causes issues when moving and doing certain things like jittering etc,

Getting avatar too short but upping the scale just exceeds the bounding box, not too sure what to do or if scale is even the correct way to fix that
is it not standing on 0,0,0? that's often a cause of this

your avatar's origin should be at the world origin, and it should be standing on that point.
well reset the bounds but not sure what to do from there. avatar is under grid from the neck
if this is the issue, I don't think you can fix this in Unity, I've done it in Blender.
fixed it in blender and re exported, height/origin are fixed but now bounding box is 10x the requirement
re-export with "apply scalings" set to "FBX All" rather than the default.
Also under "armature", uncheck the option to add leaf bones.

uh i made this from scratch, colliders were autogenerated and this is the first time outside of blender

how can i make it so when i toggle something, my characters hand stays in a set position, and can i do it with vrcfury?
you'd need to have a animation in the gesture animator set the position when the same conditions cause your FX animation to happen. You can do it with Fury but I don't know the best method, I rarely use it.
hey i got an avatar which is orange and uses the vrchat toon standard shader and in one room is very bright, im not sure how to fix it. im not sure if its just the room or the shader

So i just uploaded my avatar and discovered that my hand gestures aren't working at all. The animation for the face and ears are working but the hands are just stuck in a single position and cannot move. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Whatever it is, there's something up with the animations for the hands
culling is set to back and i dont have anything in the backface section cuz it didnt seem to do anything

how would you go about making a avatar with the head/spine pretty far forward from the actual hips? i've already got an armature setup but it straightens out in vrc and its not a pretty sight. would i just make a tposed armature thats offset from the regular pose in blender?
two sets of rigging - one to get the data from how your body moves, which VRChat's IK moves. Then the second set which moves the mesh, and you use rotation constraints to copy the rotation.
with the rotation constraints set to move in local space, it ought to be pretty close.

click the first "VCC" button in the page to add it to creator companion instead. Make sure to delete the previous liltoon stuff in your project before using this version

They're not part of the actual Blender model, they're generated in to like- connect.
theres a dropdown menu that says pose under the bone assignment menu on the right
click that dropdown and try "enforce t-pose"

im using unity, i want the limbs of my model (head, arms, legs, textures, and accessories) to be put on a different model (which has bones already configured and ready since i cant add bones myself for crap). i cannot put it into blender because the configured model is a unitypackage, so that means i cannot use blender whatsoever.

a unitypackage includes the fbx, which is what comes out of blender

You likely had physic collider on your avatar.

It's likely being used for cloth simulation collision. If you're fine without that then sure you fixed it.

As one can see this is a flag that I made an animation for to toggle the freeze to world box. The flag is otherwise animated tho so one can grab it at the low end of the flag pole and higher. That uses a position toggle. Whenever I make the freeze to world work, the position toggle doesnt work anymore, not even when the freeze to world is disabled. Whenever I make the position toggle work, the freeze to world wont work correctly anymore and it just places the flag at the first position I put it. Whats the sweetspot here? Or better yet how can I make both work?
Hey guys im still having an issue with these ears on an avi im uploading, the ears appear metallic in game but look fine in unity and I’ve tried changes shaders and sliders but still nothing,
The photo you sent of Unity doesn't actually show the settings of the material. It would be good for us, in order to help you, to actually see if your material is as you say. If the material is setup correctly, it could be an animation changing it. Check that all your animations aren't either changing the metallic value or changing the material as a whole.
Yea that material seems setup fine. So it's probably an animation changing something
Where would I look to see that?
Best to start off looking at all the animation controller layers. This will tell us if you have animations being applied beyond the default vrchat stuff.
Go to your avatar descriptor and then to the expressions section
upload without fx controller / test in unity with av3 / id still remove this first then upload a offline test
That might be a good idea as well, a multiplicative matcap might look kinda metalic. Never played with that myself though so wouldn't know from experience

Ideally use a tool like Avatar 3.0 emulator or gesture manager so you can actually work the toggles while doing this
then you can also watch the animator and see what it does.
you mean when testing in play mode? gesture manager (click on the gesture manager object and look in the inspector) or av3 emulator (click on the avatar root and look in the inspector)

those two packages sometimes have version issues, make sure they're up to date. I know some others have said they couldn't have both installed, but I do and it works for me.

If it wasn't the matcap, then do as another person suggested and remove your animation controllers and make a test build. This will be to test if there is an animation that's changing the material or its properties

find the model file (usually .fbx) and in blender, use the menu options file -> import -> import fbx

you'll need to export the fbx, and overwrite the existing fbx file. If your avatar isn't in a FBX Linked prefab, then you'll have to use something with pumkin's avatar tools to copy everything over to a new object

well that's likely where you're struggling then, you've gotta get your stats reasonably within the set limits (listed here: https://creators.vrchat.com/avatars/avatar-performance-ranking-system ) cause if you go too far past what sets you to Very Poor it'll just throw security checks
if you're uploading to android or iOs you might be able to fix it by getting rid of some stuff or lowering texture rez etc but if its PC you'll likely need to do some blender work of some kind to really optimize it
You can have Very Poor rank and still have it work, security checks happen when the engine that checks your model found something wrong besides what it could see in your editor

You'd have multiple states. Have a wait state that does nothing until the contact receiver gets touched, transitioning to the state you want to animate. Only have it transition out of that state when you are ready for it, into another wait state doing the same as before.

I have been trying to get an audio file to play off of my avatar for a while now. I can't quite figure it out. The audio is only ever heard in the GestureManager if I have the Play On Awake and attach the audio file to the source itself. All I have been trying to do is use the toggle to play the audio clip out of the speaker without dedicating the speaker to one sound.
show what you have. Alternatively you could consider VRC Animator Play Audio on an animation state.

make a new variable and use it as an additional condition for your animator transforms in the layer that does your gestures.
that's a huge amount, and will be Very Poor (thus blocked by default) and impact your own performance.

Something about the model seems to be messed up. I'd suggest deleting those verticies and replacing them. You'll need to know how to fix the weights and UV's, but it should fix the issue

Look in the avatar parameters list, make sure the parameter used for the tail has the "saved" checkbox enabled

figured out the issue, I had to many vertices and unity doesnt really know how to calculate more than 4 so i had to use the knife tool and and cuts where the problem was
You're supposed to work with quads or triangles, no game engine likes to deal with n-gons

Click this to exit prefab preview mode, the SDK cannot build prefabs while you're in this mode. Drag the prefab into the hierarchy instead of double clicking it

if its lke a prop, like model has idk, a hat thats not connected to an armature, then you can duplicate it and move the copy, on og one delete every component

Looks like the skin weights on your shoes are messed up
that and it also looks like the shoes have their own armature from a humanoid avatar that do not match up with the short limbs or the cat
Yeah if they were ripped off of something else that’s very likely
blender , import shoes - adjust abit - delete old vertex groups, transfer from body to shoes

This happens to be when I build and test a world on my Mac. It fails to launch VRChat, so the control panel gets stuck

If the editor is frozen, give it time to work

It's possible that the popup wound up behind another window, or off-screen, or whatever
The first upload takes a while. Unity has to compile a bunch of shaders.
Each combination of settings (e.g. "spot light used" vs "no spot light used") has to be compiled separately
In the editor, you're only using a few combinations, but for the build, it has to do every possible combination
thus, big numbers
It only has to do this once unless the shaders get changed
so in blender, theres an option for setting an image texture to have no alpha like in this screenshot, is there any way to be able to do this in unity?

related tangent: "Alpha Is Transparency" doesn't affect how shaders interpret the texture at all -- it just does two things:
- It makes the texture preview look transparent
- It spread colors into transparent areas to prevent weird artifacts from appearing when sampling at the edges
i used to think it was magically needed to make shaders go transparent at all
i did that but its still having this weird effect, im trying to get the areas that are shown here to be black

That sentence doesn't make sense, you're talking about transparency and lighting which are two different things.
Transparency is bad for mobile GPUs, try to avoid it as much as possible. Lighting is a different issue, you can use the new standard lite shader in the mobile section and get really good lighting results.

You need to make a specific mesh cutout from the PNG for it to work on Quest properly

it'd help if you explain your export process, then also what "didn't work" means exactly. It's really hard to help with no details as to what was being done.
