im literally currently making a saber for beat saber and it has transparency and it runs very well?
its mostly vrchat being unoptimized
there's only the floating blocks and your saber in beat saber not lots of skinned mesh reindeer with ik
performant is the caveat
and if you have a room full of avatars transparency that's a lot of overlapping transparency

Its not about merely being able to in a sterile environment, its about being able to in good performance while also juggling all of the other avatar features out there in a room full of people & not blowing up

when making an avatar work on quest it says i can only use the shaders from VRChat/Mobile for quest avatars but none of the shaders there support transparency

Click the fbx file in the unity file browser, rig tab on the inspector
