well The problem is i tried to watch Multiple tutorials on how to import avatars to unity for vrchat but i found out these were outdated and i accidently corrupted my project due to that and i didn't realize it (thankfully the project was empty though)

idk how to explain; theres the little part where you put it inside the head near the eyes in order to see when wearing your avatar, the eyes and head of this character sit a little farther away, how would i go about putting that piece where u see without ruining the ability to see around you (this is horribly explained im sorry, im new to this still)
basically how see if head and eyes are not at normal human eye length
and will i still see everything if i put it at the normal place where eyes would be
if you rig the entire head to the head bone the head will be invisible no matter where the viewpoint is

you should put the viewpoint slightly in front of the head bone rather than the character's eyes anyways

sooo my instructions are: 3. Expand "Gumboy Run" in the hierarchy, then select "JumpGame" and locate the VRC Parent Constraint in the Inspector. You will need to scroll down to find it.

I need some help, I'm gonna rip my hair out. I've tried all I could to optimize my avatar. I've tried crunch comprehension, I've tried decimating polygons and triangles, I've even deleted some pieces off of my model but it has done NOTHING to change the amount of megabytes on this avatar. use build size veiwer to see what is casuing the issue. if you have a high-poly model, often times the issue is too many blendshapes, which people don't tend to look at
but whatever the issue is for your specific case, build size viewer should help you discover the issue

If you don't want to spend too much time on it, we have a prefab that volunteers have made that can be used without an avatar, although this is also an older style.
remove vrcquesttools from your project, your avatar likely has its own version included, it happens with me now and then

Remember that an eye is wet, so try specular reflections or a clearcoat to simulate that. They look a little like anime eyes

The hair may be in pieces and you moved them without applying their transforms before exporting?
no, this isnt the case- the hair at the top like is bending into the head..
I cant recall moving anything but I dont know how to apply transforms?
if you moved something in object mode you will see the transforms here being uneven
If they are, ctrl + a -> apply all transforms

nope, there is no blendshapes on the hair whatsoever and the other blendshapes on the head are the canines in the mouth and those don't do anything to the hair
Also again, if your hair is cut up into different objects, you need to check each one

When I move the head in blender it looks perfectly fine- even normally. it's purely in unity where it looks wonky ;-;
Could it be that you weight painted the hair and that the hair has an excessive amount of bones?
This could also be the result of bone stripping
it actually doesn't have that many compared to other hairs. I don't think thats the case

It seems like MY main issue comes from how theyre calculating constraints and physbones.
I have a bone that is affected by a physbone component. It has a parent constraint to another bone that is affected by a different physbone component. The bone with the constraint on it is not being affected by the movements of the bone it is constrained to.

I have 2 constraints on my glasses , if i grab the left bone, the left constraint gets disabled while the right constraint gets activated and makes the right bone follow the lefts' movement and viceversa
so i guess its similar behavior
I see, seems like theyre all sorts of messed up right now. Part of me feels like a lot of the behavioral changes should have been more well explained in the patch notes but nitpick aside, i hope it gets fixed

If i disabled the physbone on the constrained bone, the constraint worked(?), at least it moved with the bones it was constrained to

i guess it depends on your PB setup, on my end it works like it should, will def wait for an official update before pushing a "workaround fix"
Yeah if the base pb wasnt completely immobile then it was influenced by its own PB component. Say, you move it left, its pb moves left, but the bone its constrained to goes right, then the bone wont move very much. Disable the first PB and now you only have a force in the right direction
But thats just my setup.

Yes, this has indeed been all over the place ever since vrc constraints were released. However, they work on my avatar, so check if theres an update available. Perhaps youre on the version that had this issue

First error: you have a missing script. Either install whatever required package you forgot to install, or delete that script

so you'll have to search the hierarchy to find where the missing script is on your avatar. we can't do this for you

there's a script component somewhere on your avatar, which requires some actual package installed, which you don't have installed. You either install the whatever, or find the script component and remove it

Im having some trouble, where Im trying to get earings to attach to my avatar, which works fine, but theyre in the wrong spot. How would I go about fixing that?
If they have their own armature, you must move their bones to position them right

Okay one thing now is that it attaches itself to head instead of to the ear, I dont exactly know how I would fix that though since the Link to (Avatar) Menu doesnt have all the bones of the avatar

Heya - I've been trying to adjust the arm length for some personal avs in unity, they aren't far off, but any attempt to scale the arm bones is just ignored within vrc. I tried both the hierarchy as well as the humanoid rig configuration
Use blender, pose the length and set it as rest pose :)
ah problem is I can't apply as rest pose since the meshes rigged to it have shapekeys, so I can't apply the deformation

I use cats to regularly pose my avatar and change bone lengths by clicking "apply as rest pose" without a problem

I don't have blender open but there's "symmetrize" in one of the menus, I think "Mesh"?
it may not work very well - usually I edit with mirroring on rather than attempting to do this after the fact

nvm, ill delete this blendshape and start it from scratch
Copy the blendshape by using "new shape from mix" (so the original must be enabled for this to work). Now you have a dupe. If your mesh is symmetrical, use "mirror shape key" option on that dupe. If not, try the topology mirror option instead
And well, now you can basically activate both and do again "new shape from mix"
This is how i regularly mirror my blendshapes and make "l", "r" and "both sides" ones

So the arm length thing works great! been testing making my av's snout visible in first person with head chop, it does work, but it also moves around in my field of view when moving my head, which is a bit uh, weird xD - is head chop the wrong way to do this or am I on the right track?
Use UV Tile Discard, easier. But won't work on quest side

A relatively new component for exaclty what hes doing
yeah it's like, to allow things on your head to be shown in first person, it works fine but it's not linked to my headset's motion but to the motion of the avatar's head, which apparently differs sometimes
amusingly it's kinda anti-head chop
from what I saw you can also use it to hide things not on the head in fpv, which might be useful
best I can tell is sometimes the avatar will move on its own a bit in 3-point tracking, so the head will move independently of the headset briefly, and you see this as the fpv items sliding in front of you a bit, generally moving up and back down across the field of vision. I might wait to see if we get fixes for that in the future, because being able to see my own snout is nice, but having it jitter and slide is less so xD

youre more likely to receive help asking here rather than dms. try asking specific questions. "uploading" could entail a lot. did you import the model yet? did you open a scene the maker maybe included? did you log in to the sdk panel?

You must obtain at least "New User" Trust Rank in our Trust and Safety system in order to upload content. You can get this by just spending a few hours in VRChat, hop some worlds, and make some friends. Give it some time and you'll be able to upload content in no time.
As an aside, you must have a VRChat account to upload content. That means you can't use a Steam account, Oculus account, or Viveport account to upload content like worlds or avatars.

I'm new to avatar stuff, only recently figured out how to set up and upload an avatar. I have a PC and Quest version of an avatar ready, but how do I link them instead of uploading them separately?
Upload one, copy the BlueprintID from that one and paste it into the "Pipeline Manager" component (near your avatar descriptor) of the other, then upload it.
where do I find the "blueprint ID"?
in the pipline manager component, or the avatar list in the "content manager" tab in the SDK window

man it's annoying working with avatars that don't make certain components easy to find. I'm trying to find the eye camera for this one so I can adjust the position but it's like the avatar creator hid it
if you mean the viewpoint, make sure you turn on gizmos, little globe in the upper-right of the scene view
Gizmos are on. Even searching for viewpoint in the hierarchy doesn't show anything

Hello, I have an avatar with heart beat audio source on it and I want to make it wo sound's radius stays the same when changing avatar's height. How should I implement that? I"ve saw ScaleFactor parameter, but it's not 0-1 parameter which makes me confused on how to use that
Yeah I added the clothes via VRCF
Check info messages on the script. It may be telling you that the lower arm bone of the clothes is named differently than on your base, thus "not having a match" and that "it will be added as new children".
You will be able to see the armature changes in play mode

probably you can use a matcap and just tint it by changing the base color in the shader
It matches bones by names. Renaming bones of the clothes to fit the base should work. It may be cap sensitive also

textures are never materials. Textures go into materials, materials get applied to faces on your avatar's mesh objects.

Hi all, curious about something - is there a way to ensure that a child object does not animate with its parent? For instance, when AFK is triggered, the default animation gently spins the avatar back and forth - I'd like it so my asset attached to the hips does not follow this rotation motion
I think there might be a way to do something with constraints, but I haven't used them before so I'm not certain
yeah anything you don't want to move with the avatar would have to be constrained to a world object instead
though, doesn't that mean if the avatar is moved (i.e. a game world teleports the person somewhere), then the asset will be left behind? I suppose there must be some way to still tie the **position **to the avatar but have the **rotation **constrained to world

If I export an asset with vrc parent constraints and then import it into another project all the sources are empty
I swapped it back to unity components and that seems to work but isnโt ideal and now I have the issue that when I compile the project and it converts the unity components to vrc ones the sources disappear too not sure if that is an ask issue or not havenโt hand enough time to test it

I haven't seen that one but I kept having issues with constraints in prefabs, that seems to be better so far but it's still kinda weird and I keep having to just reset everything

often that's multiple gestures happening at once - check for that, and if it's just a single blendshape active, you may have to reshape it or decrease how much the animation sets it

I had an issue where my avatar has a weird "idle?" pose (This also happens in game in VRC) . The leg and the arm move slightly backward and the neck goes slightly up. Im not sure what is going on here. Ive already put the same FBX in a new unity project where the error stayed. So in blender i already applied the transforms, and reset the pose.

also a tip for physbones, don't add leaf bones when exporting your fbx
instead use end points
if your bones are angled correctly, this should be a positive number on the Y axis
this will give you more useful physbone transforms
the leaf bones add unnecceary transforms, causing creators avatars to 1) be ranked worse and 2) remove physbones that don't need to be removed

there's lots of discussion in #avatar-optimization and probably tutorials. unless you have lots of 8k textures, probably you'll have to do more than just make textures smaller

Log in through the sdk panel in unity. Itll show you all your content after where you can just edit the names, desc and images. Just dont forget to click the update button. You dont need to upload the avi

figured it out, as a heads up to anyone who cares. you basically try to upload it for android then it says "update avatar" just change the desc thats all make sure the ID is the same as your listed one.
I fogot about the decscriptor, thats my bad, sorry. Glad you figured it out tho

Just uploaded a completely new Avi, uploaded perfectly and everything. Logged in and immediately gives me Security Checks failed. I have no idea why, it's been happening to some of the older avatars I've uploaded. It's a brand new error to me, all of these avis worked perfectly before. Anyway provide any guidance of why a completely new upload has done this? I'm fully up to date with the VRCC and the SDK

hello idk where else to ask this so I have a radial puppet 0 to 100 thing and I also have a physbone that stretches, i want it so that at a certain point of the stretch that the radial puppet will increase by like 0.1 or 0.2; is there a way to achieve that?
I am working on an avatar that is supposed to have a emission blink animation when a heart beat event is received via OSC.
I have an animation for the emission value and set the layer as additive in the fx controller.
Only the emission strength is changed in the animation but for some reason the base color is affected.
When I turn off additive animation everything works as expected.
The only reason I use additive in the first place is so that I can set the base emission strength using another toggle.
Any ideas why this is happening?
Don't change the same thing from multiple places. What I'd probably do here instead is have the heartbeat add to the variable used for the base strength, using VRC Avatar Parameter Driver

it just sets/adds/etc. another value, you can do whatever you want with that, though it's a thing you add to an animation state in the animator, not an animation clip itself.

Turns out additive animation does work.
The problem was in the shader (poyomi) due to having hue shift set in one of the decals.
Not sure how that parameter is supposed to work but now it's fine after setting it to 0.

I'd look up a tutorial on on Blender basics regarding materials. You'll want to use the node editor in the Shading section for this.
Possibly the materials there already have image sources and you just have to select the proper texture files

Okay, so I did some testing and idk why, even tho there is no animation at the default state Off unity doesn't want to reset the materials to their default color and transparency. It changes the materials correctly, but the colors and transparency (which is what I animate on the 3D model to make the Cameleon effect) stays at a grey color with no transparency.
Does anyone know how to fix that?
Two ways :
1- Use a physbone with squish
2- Use a contact receiver set to proximity and animate your object as the value gets higher
did some looking. all of these seem to share 1 thing in common, that being the parameter (VRCEmote, Int)

Try restarting unity, if that fails, try reimporting the SDK
Yes, GestureRightWeight and GestureLeftWeight are defined as floats, furthermore unity needs floats when using the multiplier field on state motions.
You may be confusing GestureRightWeight and GestureLeftWeight with GestureRight and GestureLeft, those are ints

If they came as ints from the package you imported, it's probably whoever made that package's fault

I also can't help but notice that all your layers have a weight of 0, as it stands, they won't do anything. You probably want to change their weight to 1 by clicking on the little gear icon next to each layer and bumping up the slider to the max

Oh I know. I have a lot I need to do as I'm setting up my gestures and facial expressions from the ground up, so I'm not activating anything until most of what's important is prepped.
In that case, try adding a new control yourself and copy the values of the faulty one (you may have to give it an actual name). Then delete the original and see if the SDK still complains

I added some assets in Blender into my avatar but once I export it and looked at it in Unity they are not added as a prefab in the Hierarchy. I've no idea what's going on as I have done this with a different avatar and it worked fine. Any advice?
You can create animations that animate your eyes (either physical eyelids or blendshape), then use whatever condition you want to trigger it.
I'll assume that you want your eyes to blink when you do certain hand gestures, in that case, creating or modifying your facial expression animations and assigning either GestureRight or GestureLeft as conditions would work

OK, so I added piercings onto my avatar, adjusted and added them into the Armature all in Blender. Once I was done, I exported the FBX into my Unity project, just for it not to show up said piercings in the Prefab/Hierarchy.
Is it a brand new FBX? Did you override an existing one?

I would suggest reading the github page but in short :
At the top of unity click on Tools -> Pumkin -> Avatar Tools.
This brings up a big window with a bunch of options. Find where to put the avatar you wish to affect (I think it's at the very top, you need to drag it there), then select everything and select the avatar to copy stuff from then hit confirm/apply

hey all, not sure if this is the right channel but I have an avatar question. Recently I noticed one of my avatars has a wardrobe malfunction. Looking into it further, I think it's something to do with physbones + constraints working together, it looks perfectly fine in the editor and the persistence beta but in the open beta and regular branches it's borked. Is persistence beta the most up to date? Will the physbone/constraint behaviour from the persistence beta be carried over to open/standard branches anytime soon? If not, is there anything I can do to fix this? (I'm not entirely sure how constraints work, this is an outfit I bought off booth.)

Those are just groupings of animations, double-clicking on any of them will bring you to them
I have heard of physbones under constraints behaving differently in the last SDK update in editor mode (that has been officially acknowledged). I have also heard of similar stuff like you are describing but unsure if that has yet to be officially adressed. I would suggest looking at the canny boards and seeing if anyone has reported the issues there, if not, create your own bug report on there.
Alright i'll do that, thank you. to add a little more info, I was actually a little outdated in my SDK version when I first attempted to fix it by just reuploading, but I did also update to the latest SDK and have had the same issue, my guess is that it's something related to the client but i have no idea. ๐

Look slightly up from there you are looking at the option to remove components
Look in your project files and find the gogo folder then find the menu in question. Or, find the VRCFury prefab on your avatar that initiates the fusion and it should contain a reference to that menu somewhere

Simply disable the SFW version and enable the other one (click on them, look in your inspector window and check/uncheck the top-right box)
So in the image you sent, you see the "Select None" and "Select All" buttons? Right above those should be a list of stuff you can select to copy over.
If it's empty, make sure you've dragged both the avatar you want to copy things from AND the avatar to copy things to in the correct fields
With both versions of the FBXs?

One version is the one you wish to copy things from (the one without piercings), the other is the blank one you dragged into your scene to copy things to

The error is self-explanatory some of the menus being added to the avatar use parameters that are not on the parameter list

It may not exist then. Not every character ever has been made an avatar. You could commission one from someone but that can get pretty expensive and you risk running into lots of scammers if you don't look in the right places
I know the avatar model exists because Ive seen two avatar creators upload them as public in their avatar worlds, but I have no clue how they got them.๐

More data on this; its not just that one parameter. All radial sliders seem to suffer the same issue. Could it somehow be caused by the controller joysticks? The whole setup is like 10 years old by this stage. All replacement parts have been discontinued.
It is something that persists once the radial slider closes, but I wonder if it could still be initated by a broken joystick.
From what I read your issue is that, at any given value input via the radial, the parameter randomly changes to other values on its own?
Partially, it also jumps between that and the slider's default value.
Default->x->Default->y->Default->z->Default->x...
Aight so three things :
1 - I noticed that the default value in your parameter list is not the default value in your controller nor in the blendtree
2 - From what I remember experiencing on my own, this type of issue arises when mixing Write Defaults
3 - If not, make sure you don't have any parameter driver driving this value, nor any animation leftover in your base layer
It isn't just confined to parameters I have defined. I managed to add gogoloco and stopped it from bricking the hand-tracking. But it too seems to suffer this issue.
Then it is most likely caused by mixed Write Defaults
If its not Write Defaults, what else could it be?
I believe I've tried it with all Write Defaults disabled but it didn't seem to tackle it. However; I can still give it a second go and be absolutely sure.
But! In case that doesn't work, what could be a Plan B?
I cannot think of anything else that could cause parameters to randomly change values. Make sure to check all your states and to have them all match the same Write Defaults value. Exceptions can be made for direct blendtrees that should most likely stay on WD On regardless of the rest of the avatar
so i found out in persistance beta its fixed but not in regular
we did some testing in dms, yes it's the same issue it seems

although for Pauln, his constraint is actually on the physbone while mine constraints another bone to a physbone
Afaik, the issue had to do with physbones and constraints interacting sooo yeah
Its dumb to get a paid model just to have that issue the model came out a few months ago
it happens, I might try manually converting my constraints to VRC ones to see if that fixes it but im not sure how those work so i might need to go learn a bit first

Remember earlier when I said the constraints didn't work in editor with SDK 3.7.3? That's that, they should work in playmode and once uploaded
I uploaded them and they didn't work, but I'll try on 3.7.2 (unless you have another version that would be better) and try again

That's very odd then, does your avatar do anything special with constraints? The auto-converter should cover every use-case as long as you're not doing some mad scientist stuff lol
to my knowledge, they aren't touched in animation
they're just used to constrain the outfit to the physics (instead of being weighted?) I'm not super familiar with blender or constraints and this is an outfit I bought so i'm honestly not sure what's goin on
I'm mostly asking what you're using them for but if you aren't even animating them then their should be no issue

I just got an avater and for some reason the tattoos which are ment to be coloured just aren't, they are just a bright white and I was curious if anyone knew why? Also in game the colour radial also doesn't work, they just stay white and yeah it confuses me >~>

There could be many many different reasons for this, unfortunately if you have no experience with avatars at all, that might be hard to fix

Copy-pasting the same information everywhere is not useful. An official bug report has been made and will be looked at
So, I'm struggling with my model kinda. Having its shoulders folding in on themselves in-game if I have my arms too close to myself, I'm assuming this is because I need to tweak the rigging since they don't have.. a shoulder? But asking in case I'm missing something important!
Here's what the rigging looks like for the arms if that helps!
Only thing I can think of is to adjust the muscle settings in unity (same menu you are in, in that picture). Otherwise might need some blender work and I can't help with that

The actual creator said that no one else has had this issue, so I think it is on my end, but yeah I don't know what considering the colours don't appear from the second I open the asset in unity
If you truly are the only one experiencing this issue make sure you follow diligently the instructions most likely included with your avatar purchase. It might require you to import specific packages/tools and/or use specific versions of Unity/the SDK/some tools
